I don't know what they put in the marinade for their flank steak but I think it might be crack. That stuff is absolutely delicious. We generally get one every other week or so. Don't need to season it out it on the hot grill for a few minutes each side, slice and serve. anyone who buys from this place is an idiot and doesn't know anything about meat products. 1. It's an illegal butcher shop because all the meat products aren't cut in a refrigerated environment. Go watch the butcher's at Costco. 2. They tax all their products and buy all their meat from the same big companies the grocery stores do, Just like every other butcher shop. They hide their cardboard boxes and dump them in random dumpsters. I've personally seen the owner do this at 2 a.m. across the street at Safeway. Fun fact: The Wagyu they sell is American Wagyu, nothing like the Japanese. True Wagyu is Four different breeds in Japan, Kobe being the most well known. Have fun wasting your money!!! read more

Not only do you receive awesome Customer Service inside and outside of the store, I recently was on a flight with the owner. He was so kind to assist me with my carry on! I cannot say enough good things about Kincaid's. This family owned business has been around for over 100 years and their customer service is beyond compare. The meat selection is always overwhelming to me but you get exceptional service and savings. Everybody working there takes the time to ask you questions and make sure you get exactly what you need. It truly has the feeling of an old-time butcher shop. I stopped there this morning, pre-blizzard apocalypse, and the line was out the door. It didn't matter. Good customer service is being respectful not rude. -being helpful and kind not snarky, and to promote more sales is to answer questions about your products. In many many years past, I have never experienced this behavior here. I wanted to add something on to my call-ahead pick-up order and had a couple of quick questions. The man that answered was mature and I have an idea, so don't blame the younger workers. He acted put out with my questions and didn't answer clearly, but I decided to go ahead and add on even though. When I asked him to add on please, He said "no" I could pick it out when I got here." I said I couldn't come. He said "ok". I said I wasn't well and would be sending some one. He said, "whoever picks up the order can add it on". I said, "he will not know how to pick out". He said ok. I said ok what? -silence -that means you're not going to add on? He said, right and hung up. I'm partially handicapped and my husband has a severe back problem at this time, so the whole point was to 'not stand' long... We all have bad days but this was ridiculous! read more

Yeah, I wanted to hang out at the meat market as long as possible. Maybe it was the friendly/semi-flirtatious meatmen? Abundance of local and unique meat options - elk, veal, ostrich, rabbit, etc.? Or the smell of raw meat in the air? (hmmm...probably not that one). I have to credit Yelper Extroidinaire Michael C. for giving me the extra push to finally stop at Kincaid's. It was his glorious explanation of their ground bacon and beef burgers that did me in. Yes. Bacon ground with beef. Stop drooling. So, I picked up not only a couple of these patties but also a few veal burgers. I would have bought more had I not been fixin' to leave for an extended vacation. On the list for my next visit: a whole rabbit. I promised Dennis that I wasn't holding back next time. In addition to their great variety, I'm also crushing on Kincaid's hometown/laid back feel. Helpful staff, great variety, and very clean shop. I stopped into Kincaid's to check out the hype and see if they sharpen knives. The hype is deserved and they do offer knife sharpening! While I was browsing, another customer was at the counter asking a lot of specific questions. The employee helping her was so patient and kind. I was really impressed by how helpful he was. Once I got to the counter, the staff member helping me was great. I had a few questions about different beef cuts and he went through the pros and cons of each one. Even though there were multiple people needing help, the shop had plenty of staff to explain and recommend products. I will definitely be back to shop and learn. read more

Fuuuuuuuuck yes. I love these guys. Not only have I been going here for literally decades at this point. I show up 20 minutes before they open because we have a Christmas party for 40 family members and we need to get the meat smoking, but they let me in, have the meat ready, made it specifically to my moms request of "leaving the fat on." The price was reasonable. If I am going to fly from New England to Indy deal with little kids needing bed time and an infant waking up every 3 hours I can tell you for sure that an early morning run to Kincaid's is a welcome and happy break. I cannot stress enough that these guys are professional, friendly, and better than any butcher I have found in New England. BACON BURGER PATTIES! Did you hear that? I said BACON BURGER PATTIES! Okay, so I've been on a Julia Child video binge lately so I felt like I needed to try my hands at some steak. So I picked up some USDA Prime filets earlier today. And a waygu beef hot dog. And a half pound of ground beef. And some deli stuff as well. Oh, and my filet is wrapped in bacon. I could spend a lot of money here. Besides a ton of meat (including some more "wild" selection), they also have a selection of breads, spices, and pies. Kincaid's is a neighborhood staple and in an era where grocers are cutting back on the butcher/deli, it is nice to step into a store where professionals are still assisting you with your meats. read more

If you are looking for a great cut of meat, or specialty cut this is definitely the place for you! I came in to get a cut of prime rib for a special dinner. The butchers are all super helpful and friendly. I told them what I was looking for and they brought out a giant cut, and they talked me through the differences between the front and back ends of the meat. This helped so much to determine exactly which part would suit me for the dinner I was hosting. While he prepared the cut I walked around and was really impressed with their selection of fresh pies, spices, cheeses, and so many little extras. I was happy to see that they also carry other small Indianapolis business' products at their counter. Once my cut was ready he told me that he had but the bones out for me also, and including the ribs in my package though so I could still cook them, which is/was fantastic. I will say, the price of the cut was very expensive and I knew going in that it was going to be a higher price than I normally pay. The flip side of this is I got a much higher quality cut of meat. While I only buy prime rib once a year, I want to come back in and try a selection of their sausages and other cuts because they all looked so fresh and like they would be delicious. As for the prime rib, yes it was absolutely amazing. The next day when I was unwrapping it to prepare to cook I was really blown away by the marble and just how great the meat looked-there is such a difference from a fresh cut vs. something in a Styrofoam tray covered in plastic wrap. read more

Terrible customer experience. My first time to Kincaids was about 6 months ago. Cool little meat market, but definitely not for anyone on a budget. I was super excited to see they had one of my favorite sausages I used to buy in Texas, but cant hardly find anywhere else. Fast forward to about a month and a half ago, I went in to buy more and they were out but they assured me that they could order it. I told them to order me a few and they did. It took until last week to finally come in, which I assume took a while due to its rarity, and I got a call that my order was in. I was traveling for work and let them know it would be a week and they said it was fine. I go in today to pick up my sausage that I waited a month and a half for, and I am told they no longer have it. I guess it is common to sell your special orders to other customers. I dont get told sorry or anything, just that they can order it again for me....which means they will take 2 months and sell to someone else again. Moral of the story stay away as they dont care about their customers. Never again. read more

I am embarrassed to say that I grew up in Butler-Tarkington, my mother still lives in the area, and I've never set foot into Kincaid's. That all changed when I decided to make lamb chops (for the first time) on Thanksgiving, and I knew that not just any place would do. The guy that I worked with was so helpful to me with my selection. He told me which pieces to get that would have more meat and more for my money - love that. I told him it was my first time cooking lamb and he even gave me a few pointers...and it turned out great! Just excellent all around, will definitely return in the future! read more

Kincaid's is my favorite neighborhood butcher shop. Sure, Goose the Market is great, but I don't live downtown and I like I to see a butcher shop that doesn't hide the fact that they are a butcher shop. I've gone here twice, once for veal shanks and once for duck legs. Both times I was happy with the price and service. Kincaid's does have a huge freezer full of meatballs, lobster ravioli, hot dogs, chicken gizards, anything this cook could want or need. They have GROUND OSTRICH, people. And ANTELOPE. WTF? Who cares, I'll try it. My only qualm is that a lot of the frozen meats and items do not have prices on them and I hate having to ask people about prices for 50 different items. read more

The friendly butchers will assist you in making educated decisions on what cuts to buy and even help you trim and prepare your selection, if you so wish. Their selection is extensive and offer many cuts that the Kroger or Marsh simply don't have. They also sell bison, fish, and some great wild game too. Kincaid's is always where I go to buy meat for holiday feasts and special meals. Their hours and location make it difficult to go there more than a few times a year. The selection is impressive, and everything is very fresh. Most importantly, the staff are very knowledgeable about the product and are excited to discuss it with you. I went in one time with a rough idea on wanting to roast a shoulder of lamb. I talked about it with the butcher and he talked me through the different ways he could cut the shoulder (how many ribs, bone in vs out...) He talked about pairings and seasonings and the differences between roasting a leg vs. a shoulder. It was clear that he really enjoyed his job and was more than willing to help someone that had less meat know-how. After this, he went and cut the shoulder off the lamb, and I cooked it. Even though I live downtown, I shop here frequently. Everyone here is friendly, knowledgable and willing to go the extra step to take care of their customer. My last visit was on a very busy Saturday seeking goodies for my grill. I had a friend visiting and wanted them to experience the high quality meats from here. One of my requests was not readily available in their large case, but the butcher babe was happy to oblige. She broke down a full leg of lamb just to give me the cut I asked for. I wasn't surprised at her effort because as I said before they take care of their customers but I was very appreciative. My out of towner also noticed and commented how great the service was. Kincaid's earns their 5 stars without question. They have wonderful meat, helpful staff that help you pick the right cut and a good selection. Walk in and take a number, and while you wait for them to assist you check out their big selection for premium (and mostly local!) meats. I've had pork chops, chicken breast, bacon and steak tips from Kincaid's and I have enjoyed them all. The guy behind the counter even helped us pick which cut of steak would be best to make beef stir-fry. How awesome is that? I have been to many a butcher shop and Kincaid's is by far the best! Not only do they have wonderful fresh ground beef, they have sausages that they make on site! I love getting their Italian Sausage to spice up my pasta sauce! Another bonus is they sell bones for your furry friends and will even cut them to size for you! It does not get better than Kincaid's. The entire reason I'm updating my review is to make sure that "King David Hot Dogs" is added to searchable content. They carry frozen King David Dogs here, so if it's not during a weekday before 4pm and you're needing our historical red hots... Kincaid's has 'em. They also updated their system by having the classic butcher shop "take a number" routine, and that organization makes me rest easy -- unlike how when I shop here I'm always the youngest shopper in the market (thanks 56th & Illinois).
