The service here was top-notch and the food was excellent! I love the history of the restaurant,…read morealmost as much as I loved my chicken salad on a croissant. The tater tots were fresh and crispy. My friend had the stacked enchilada with an egg on top... It really looked amazing! Tasted good too. Portions were very large. There is a bar attached to this restaurant but we did not go into it. The decor is lovely and it's very spacious. A lot of men wearing cowboy hats in attendance! Definitely make sure you check out the bathrooms before you leave... Especially the handles on the door stalls. So cool!

This place is over the top wonderful in every area. I…read moremay get a little wordy, but here goes. The dining room was spacious, every table could be filled, and you'd still be able to walk without asking people to move in. The Bar was equally spacious with plenty of drinking options. We got the deep fried devils egg for the appetizer, these were an amazing combination of texture and flavor. We each got a steak for the main course, both were cooked to perfection and tender beyond anything in our recent memory. The sweet potatoes were so perfectly cooked in seasoned. They were easily consumed using only a fork. We followed up with banana pudding and bread pudding. Both were out of this world. It's unusual to get banana pudding that's made in house and not some flavored glue out of a can. It was topped with whipped cream that actually melted, which told me it was real whipped cream. And it wasn't premade before I ordered because all the vanilla wafers both in it and around, it were crispy and delicious. The bread pudding was equally as delicious. It was dense and sweet and had a nice subtle flavor of bourbon. Even the iced tea was made in house, not from some concentrate or taken out of a soda fountain Our server Parla was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, she made our evening a wonderful overall experience

The place started filling up at about 1115 am. Chicken fried steak and fries - perfect portion for me, I'm 61, tender, for once I didn't have to spit out a single piece of chicken fried steak! I guess home cooking is worth a little wait . Green beans had bacon, onion, and were good as well, fries good too. Sunshine Burger and fries - fries were good, there was meat in the hamburger! Good flavor/portion, needed a little more avocado though. Relax, eat here!

She was talking to her co worker, and having a great time. We called her over and asked if we could get at least the salads we ordered and her response was that rhetorical kitchen was backed up. She could've easily helped them to make the salads. After an hour we ask if there was an update on our food. Her response was she didn't know but she needed to go to the bathroom. What?!?!? Nonetheless we got our food. While the burgers were okay the chicken fried steak was not that. It looked like a patty with slimy breading. The whole experience was awful. It's the only place in the area so I think people eat there as a last resort. It's a nice place but lacks everything.

After a day of driving, I asked the front desk worker at my hotel (see my review of the hotel on my…read moreprofile) for places to eat. The man told me about a place about a block away called Wild Horse, before running into the restroom. I can only assume the reason he went to the restroom was because he consumed Wild Horse more than one time. I walk in and am at first optimistic, as the place seems pretty clean. After sitting down, I settle on a brisket (since this place is technically a steakhouse), mashed potatoes, and green beans. The server, however, was pretty rude when she gave me my menu and took my order. The food was absolutely terrible. The mashed potatoes were watery and tasted like actual crap in the form of a watery substance. The green beans were terrible, too, being soggy and, overall, tasting terrible. And don't even get me started on the brisket, which was undercooked, bland, and barely edible. To be fair, locals seem to like this place, and there aren't too many places to eat in Clayton, but you mean to tell me that this is the best place Clayton has to offer? I know that Clayton's a rural area, so I shouldn't expect anything fancy, but I really just wanted a meal that I wouldn't get food poisoning from. Considering that there aren't too many places to eat, and I still had barely eaten anything, I went to the gas station that was just across the street and got a much better meal. After reading through the other reviews on Wild Horse, I would understand if my meal was just a fluke. Next time, though, I'll just keep driving. It's not a risk I'm even remotely willing to take.

No recommendation. Locals seem to enjoy this restaurant…read more I don't want to come across overly critical, so simply put it's a middle of the road maw-and-paw shop restaurant in a tiny town where competition isn't driving the restaurant to the next level. So, they serve basic southern comfort fare and steaks, with acceptable flavor and quality. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The beans were from a can. The white gravy was runny, like they were trying to stretch it out to last the evening. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great either. So, overall, my "no recommendation" isn't an indictment, it's simply that I'm left with no opinion. I probably won't return to this restaurant.

You can literally fuel up your stomach, your tank, and grab a little gift for the road. The menu has a bit of everything: burgers, burritos, enchiladas, carne asada, even breakfast. True to New Mexico style, almost everything can be smothered in red or green chile (and you absolutely should not skip it). Hands down, one of the best green chiles I've ever had in my life was here. I came in for a quick bite while passing through, hoping for a smothered burger (sadly they weren't making one that morning), but I went with Dino's Breakfast instead -- bacon and extra green chile on top. Total flavor bomb. Soul-pleasing doesn't even begin to describe it. When I walked in, the place was quiet. By the time I left, it was filling up with guests, and it's easy to see why. Sierra Grande is not to be underestimated, and it's now officially on my "must visit" list every time I come through.
