It serves the Brown, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines. The times each of these operates varies. Brown goes counterclockwise. The others go clockwise so be sure to be on the correct side of the platform. For the Brown, stand on the north. The others are on the south. Close proximity to Metra is right by here. This is only a few blocks to walk to if you're coming or going from it. Also know the Purple is a limited extension. It's only on weekdays at rush hour. This is located really close to the LaSalle Metra station.

A pretty average looking station in the middle of a highway. It serves the Blue Line. This is in the middle of Interstate 90 a couple stops away from O'Hare. Many commuters get off or on here. There's a parking lot so it's a main station for suburban travelers. It also has lots of connections to busses. There's almost nothing as far as bars and restaurants around here. Bad things include it being busy. It's going to and coming from O'Hare, so there's often problems with keeping on schedule it seems. There can be long waits for trains.

Anyway, back to the story, I used the Metra to get to the conference. It is easy and smooth. I could relax, work, read or better yet, Yelp! while on the train. I have been told that you are allowed to bring alcohol on the train and drink while riding... I don't know if you are 'allowed' or nobody cares to care if you drink on the train. There is a carnival, massive sound stage, beer tent, train displays, swap meet, food vendors, model railroad layout and miniature train rides. The station fills with rail fans of all ages to watch the trains with all real life rail operations cutting right through the festival. The fest last about a week but on one Saturday there is a line up of real trains/cars that you can walk on and walk through. Metra always a locomotive on display that the adults and children can walk through and sit at the controls for pictures. Metra and the village really put on a nice festival for a great family outing which is usually in early June. I will also stop by when the festival is not going on when in the area to do some Rail fanning because it is the lead into the big rail yard with lots of action.

The signage and boarding process can be a bit overwhelming for first-time or occasional passengers. They do have a customer service counter, and I've found the staff there to be helpful if you have the time to stop and ask questions. Having rail service from Milwaukee to downtown Chicago is a tremendous convenience, and Union Station remains a beautiful gateway to the city. There is also a large lobby. Weak points are a lack of any digital signage at platform level, and the fact that unless you take the elevator up, you will be under the elements. With all of this, Southport is fine, with added points for width and cleanliness, and negative points for lack of signage and cover.

There is a staircase and narrow escalator (single file only). The station is not accessible, and stairs are needed to enter/exit street level. - This is close to the Greyhound and Union station, however there is no underpass. These are a block or two away, and would put you under the elements. - I did not encounter any foul smells or grossly unsanitary conditions. The archway one descends through could use some paint, and the floor would benefit from a power washing. However, the first staircase from street level definitely needs some elbow grease, including the railing. - The station is very well lit and did not feel unsafe. - There are no screens showing arrival information. I have to use the Transit app to show me when the next train is coming. - Seating is extremely limited, I think I saw one bench, though I could be wrong and there could be two. Thus, while some things are typical of CTA stations (like limited seating), the lack of screens and heightened need of a deeper cleaning cost Clinton Station some points. At the same time, I have definitely seen worse in terms of safety and cleanliness, hence a star was saved.

The good thing is trains come often and usually are on time.
