We were blown away by the food and desserts at The Mill at Fine Creek. Our guests are still raving about each course, and the cake was stunning (even though our topper was mistakenly eaten, the team quickly provided a replacement, which we greatly appreciated). The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous and created the perfect backdrop for our wedding day. That said, there are some areas where we think the experience could be even better. Communication throughout the planning process was sometimes challenging, even when we reached out with questions. On the day of our wedding, our hope was to follow the timeline we had carefully planned so that we could maximize time with our guests. Although our coordinator reassured us things were on track, the buffet ended up starting later than expected. Because of that delay, our reception ended with much less dancing time than we had envisioned. We had chosen a buffet in part because we were told it would be quicker than a plated dinner, but that unfortunately wasn't the case. We share this not to take away from how beautiful and memorable our day was, but because we believe The Mill has all the ingredients to deliver a truly seamless experience. With improved communication and a little more focus on time management, future couples will be able to enjoy every aspect of what makes this venue so special--the incredible food, stunning setting, and joyful atmosphere. read more

My husband and I are so grateful to have chosen The Mill at Fine Creek for our wedding ceremony and reception. We looked at a number of places in and around Richmond but nothing matched The Mill's beauty nor the warmth and hospitality of Lisa (owner and proprietor) and Kim (day-of coordinator). Throughout the entire process, they were genuinely thrilled and excited to make sure our big day was spectacular. The venue itself may be beautiful, but they truly make it special. They communicated with us every step of the way, fielded our never ending questions, and made every change or update that we needed. During the ceremony itself, Kim was seemingly everywhere, handling everything. She directed us through the whole day and we both felt that she is as necessary as an appendage. If Olivia Pope was a wedding coordinator, she would have learned her job from Kim! A huge kudos to the food and beverage team. Our dinner was over-the-top good. We went with an upscale southern theme - think fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, brisket with a blackberry bourbon sauce (the star of the show!), and chicken and waffles. We received nothing but praise from our guests about the food. They were all delighted! On top of that, the cake was outstanding! We went with their almond cake with whipped almond custard and raspberry preserves. It was so good our guests took most of their second servings with them back to the hotel. Pierre the pastry chef did a phenomenal job! Overall, we could not have been more pleased with The Mill at Fine Creek. I urge anyone considering them to go for the Day of Wedding Coordinator. If you're needing help deciding if The Mill is the right choice, here are some some things that helped us pick them: - Most outdoor venues don't have a plan b for rain (they will make you buy tents just-in-case), but The Mill does. We really appreciated that a lot and it made us feel more secure choosing an outdoor venue. - The Mill has 3 outdoor spots where you can get married: the creek, the pergola (where we got married) and in the mill ruins. No matter where you choose, the entire venue and all of the grounds are yours that day. - You have full use of the Miller's Cottage which is attached to the main house. My wife and I enjoyed dinner at the Mill at Fine Creek. It is a beautiful venue for weddings and events. The grounds include an outdoor ceremony area, a general store, a brewery and several charming cottages. I can't express how convenient and gorgeous this venue really is. There is a large parking area about 70 feet from the main entrance. Also plenty of space to drive up and drop off guests who do not want or can't walk from the parking lot. We were attending the annual meeting of a charity we belong to. There was plenty of room for guests to mingle and enjoy themselves. The presentation setup was clear and visible from all tables. The food and dessert were excellent. We had baken chicken with cous cous and asparagus. Perfectly cooked. Service on point. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. I highly recommend considering the Mill at Fine Creek for your next event. read more

I stayed at the cottages at The Mill at Fine Creek when I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and was so impressed! The cottages are SO cute and very homey. They are spotlessly clean, well appointed, and made me feel like I was staying in a HGTV show. Our cottage had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, which was perfect for pre-wedding primping. The towels were so plush and oversized - an example of the little details in the cottage that show they really put thought into every aspect of your stay. Our living room had a fridge and freezer stocked with breakfast essentials - coffee, sodas, orange juice, Chobani yogurt, water, and granola. Additionally, we had access to complimentary breakfast at the cafe. They offered drip coffee, fruit, delicious muffins, and bagels. The young woman at the cafe was an absolute delight and I wish I could start every morning off chatting with her. She really made me feel right at home. Parking is nearby and gives you easy access to the cottages. From check in to check out, my stay at The Mill was wonderful. I would happily stay here again. It would make a perfect getaway spot for a relaxing weekend! read more

So grateful to have chosen the Mill at Fine Creek. A small group of family and friends just gathered to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. The Mill at Fine Creek was A+++ all around -- easy planning process, gracious staff, beautiful venue, outstanding food, reasonable prices. I can't tell you how many compliments we received on all aspects of the event. Melissa made certain every detail was addressed, and she did so cheerfully and professionally. Lisa helped us work out a personalized menu including some of Mom's favorites with two items even made using her own family recipes. The food was spectacular, especially the crab crostini with capers. The staff provided friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive service -- exactly what you want at a party. They piped in big band music from my parent's younger years and even added their own potted geraniums to our floral décor when the weather turned unexpectedly cold and the plants needed inside cover. We nearly missed out on all Fine Creek has to offer because we thought our party was too small for the venue. But the team screened off the main event space and set us up with tables overlooking the mill ruins, woods, and creek. It felt spacious yet welcoming for our group of 25. A perfect day all around! It is a beautiful venue, food is very good, beer is good, but the staff are rude and service was poor. They literally made us move our table 6" from another table due to COVID concerns. They were more concerned with 6" than getting our outdoor heater working or checking on our needs. When they did interact with us they were very unfriendly. Take a measuring tape to ensure 6' before settling in at your table. read more

We were there last night for the Shere wedding and it was amazing. Everything from beginning to end was wonderful. Staff was attentive. RJ and Mike at the bar were great. This is a two-part review, one for staff at the store and the cottages and another review will be written for the brewery itself. The cottage experience was very nice. The grounds are beautiful, the cottages are roomy, well decorated, have nice amenities, and a great place to spend a night or two. When booking the cottage I had an easy time and got a great response to some of my questions. Check-in and check out is very easy. Everyone I dealt with in regards to my stay was friendly and helpful. If you were staying at the cottage and had a baby/small child, there is a room in the cottage already set up for such. It's a very nice touch. The fridge is a good size alongside a freezer full of ice. The bed is very comfortable and there's lots of natural light. Enjoying your drinks on the porch is great. We watched the game from our comfy couch on the nice flat screen tv. They leave snacks and drinks for you in the cottage. I recommend the cottages and the shop (which has wine, coffee, and bakery items for sale) --- I DO NOT recommend the brewery which makes this review sort of odd. The staff there are extremely rude and unfriendly. It's almost as if they're two separate entities based on how they treat the guests of the cottages....but in fairness from what I witnessed, they treated everyone pretty poorly. Whoever does the scheduling needs some wedding etiquette 101 training. We were told that only a certain number of people were allowed in the building and on the grounds due to COVID, so my friend (the bride) pivoted her plans. The day of, we were told that there was nothing else scheduled and we had the grounds to ourselves, but there were constantly other groups of people coming in for tours and planning meetings. As we got closer to the ceremony time, a large group of people showed up for their rehearsal for the next day. It would have been fine if it were earlier in the day while we were getting ready, but we had guests starting to arrive before the other group left the ceremony site. You would think that, as a wedding venue, they would know that people arrive earlier than the scheduled ceremony time and not schedule things so closely together. It took away from my friend's special day, which was entirely unfair to her. The number of people in the building and on the grounds definitely exceeded the number we were originally told, which was just incredibly unprofessional that we were told what were clearly lies. Not to mention, the grounds were not kept well. One person even said that the courtyard looked more like a graveyard. It's sad because this venue has so much potential, but there needs to be some reevaluation of priorities, and definitely more professionalism and keeping their word. read more

Our experience at the Mill at Fine Creek blew away our every expectation from our very first visit. We worked directly with Lisa (the owner), Pierre (the pastry chef), Colleen (our wonderful day-of coordinator), Kendall (the hospitality coordinator), and many other welcoming and accommodating people. Leading up the big day, the staff maintained absolutely excellent communication and responded very quickly to emails and calls for every question and concern we had. They were incredibly flexible and were very generous with allowing us to change our entrees chart/guest count just days before the event due to a death in the family. The day of was nothing short of magical. Lisa, Kendall, Colleen, and everyone else at the venue the day of our ceremony went above and beyond helping us set up the venue and make sure that every detail was stunning- they even put together and set up all of our table decorations and centerpieces while we were getting ready! In no fault of the venue, there was an issue with the transportation company which caused our guests to arrive 30 minutes late for the ceremony, but not only did they do a wonderful job adjusting the timeline and speaking with the other vendors, they even gave us the option to extend the reception to make up for the half hour free of charge! So many of our guests were asking us how we found such a beautiful venue; many told us that it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to- of course with some bias, I absolutely agree! My fiance and I were absolutely floored, and are looking forward to spending our anniversaries at the cottages to 'relive' our storybook wedding. Thank you all so much for all your hard work! The cottages here are the perfect place for a relaxing getaway! My husband and I spent a weekend here, and are already looking forward to our next visit. The cottages are clean, beautifully decorated, and have some pretty luxurious amenities (amazingly comfortable beds, fluffy soft towels, beautiful antique pieces, and nice porches to lounge on). The complimentary breakfast is wonderful. You are given a basket to fill up with pastries, fresh fruit, freshly brewed coffee, and whatever else you'd like for breakfast, and you are free to take your breakfast back to your cottage, eat it at the outdoor sitting area, or even take it down to the creek to enjoy! The pastries they serve are delicious, and I learned that they are baked on site - what a special treat!! There is a brewery on site, just steps away from the cottages, and that is a fun place to spend an afternoon (the beer is great!). The grounds are absolutely beautiful! We are coming back in the fall for a wedding (the wedding venues here are just stunning) and we have already booked our cottage to enjoy another weekend here! Rosalie at the general store was incredibly helpful and made us feel so so welcome. She also gave us some great recommendations for things to do in the area. Can't wait for our next visit! read more

My cousin was married (and had her reception) here last Wednesday. The Mill is absolutely beautiful and the staff was incredibly accommodating. It was so hot we had all of the festivities inside so I can't speak to the outdoor area that surrounds the facility but the interior of the building is spacious and impressive. read more

My sister got married here 3/13/15 and everything was amazing. The buildings and grounds are fabulous the guest house was at our disposal and made for a great hospitality room. We were able to get all of our flower arrangements done the night before and gather around and just have a quite evening with family before the festivities. The food and beverage service was on point we loved every minute of the event. The rain even held off till we were already inside for the reception! My husband and I recently stayed for a weekend at The Mill at Fine Creek. Our cottage was perfect - so much so, that we wish we lived there everyday! Very comfortable and beautifully furnished. Ample luxurious bath towels. We checked in at the General Store and Rosalie who helped us, made us feel like family. We loved the homemade pimiento cheese and homemade sea salt caramels we purchased to bring home. Our Sunday breakfast experience at the store was very unique. We were given a picnic basket to fill with the nicest of breakfast items and returned to our cozy cottage to dine. A great beer and food selection at the brewery - a beautiful building and grounds. i had my wedding here and it's still getting raved about by my friends over two years later. gorgeous setting, beautiful linens and furniture, world class food, professional service. expensive, but you get what you pay for. owner is a very nice woman and contributes substantially to local charities. alcohol prices were very reasonable. this venue rocks because they can move your wedding from outside to inside in 20 minutes or less. you only understand the true value of this when you need it! rural setting but still very convenient location. would highly recommend. read more
