This is my third time here at Maidens Cafe. Pro's: Food is very fresh especially the salads. The salads come in a big plastic bowl which is so nice to mix in the salad dressing. A bit over priced for location It use to be a gas station converted to a cafe. It's a very comfortable cozy look they definitely put some thought in making it look pretty and updated. I would go again if I'm in the area especially if I'm on my way to the Powhatan park or Maidens bridge. I would pick up a lunch and have a picnic. 1-2025 - Midlo.

My call in order was ready in a few minutes! They have some amazing desserts that you should definitely try! There's a seating area both inside and out. Excellent sweet tea, too!

A shockingly excellent experience. Seriously everyone, I'm blown away. I didn't expect this place to be as good as it was! A seemingly unsuspecting place sitting off the side of a street in Powhatan, VA, The Cafe at Maidens is proof that looks can be deceiving. The decor is old and dilapidated, but don't let that fool you; this place purposefully has this appearance in order to establish the mood it wants to set. The service is friendly and approachable. The young girl at the counter cracked jokes and made some quality recommendations. I ended up getting one of the sandwiches she jokingly suggested, and it was delicious. Everything was reasonably priced. That segues this review into talking about the food. Honestly? Some of the best pancakes I have ever had. The batter is made in-house. These flap jacks were the perfect combination of flaky and soft. The flavors of these pancakes (PANCAKES, PEOPLE!) hits you in waves. They added cinnamon into the batter, but it's neither overwhelming nor underwhelming. The hash browns were the second highlight of my friend's meal. Everything about The Big Breakfast screams one word: QUALITY. As for my sandwich, I got the Elvis. If you love strange sandwiches, then this banana, bacon and peanut butter sandwich is sure to impress you. I might return just to try another sandwich just like this one! So let's recap: - Interesting decor - Reasonable prices - Friendly staff - QUALITY Food - Fantastic pancakes - Elvis. My man Elvis. If you're ever in Powhatan, I hope you find your way to this cafe. It deserves more attention AND your business.

Love, love, love this hidden gem! I will drive 45 minutes to get here if I am craving a good sandwich. If there is a sandwich shop comparable in the Richmond area, I have yet to find it. I usually get the Powhatan Club (pictured) which is stacked with meat and cheese. It's so large I can only eat half of it and then save the other half for later. Getting a combo is the best way to go, where you can pick three items to accommodate your sandwich. Service is always friendly and quick. I have heard wonderful things about their breakfast menu as well, but have yet to try it.

This place is still 5 stars and a million chefs kisses. I could ordered here every day. I love love love the Virginian sandwich but what I really came here to update is that they have THE BEST French silk pie I have ever had in my life. Maybe the best pie ever. The have different desserts each day but if you get lucky enough to snag a slice of heaven, do not hesitate. The staff is incredible per usual

Now that's a good looking egg salad combo!!!

I had to deduct a couple of stars due to my recent visit. I had breakfast there this time... the eggs were perfect, but the bacon was so greasy I had an upset tummy ADL! The ice machine was so old and dirty, the restroom was funky and definitely needs a facelift, old rusty fixtures... and we also saw a roach! I'm sorry because this is such a cute little hideaway, and the folks who run it are nice, but I gotta call it like I see it.

I'm sure I could've up charged to fries or something else but wanted to save some pennies. The waitress offered sauce and I should've taken her up on it as the barbecue was a bit dry, but tasty. The service was friendly and quick. Not much to the inside as far as decor but clean. I was a bit disappointed to find out AFTER I had eaten my meal that I was charged more for not paying in cash. I understand that credit card companies may attach a fee to the use of their card. However, this should be included in the price of the CHOICE on the menu, not a surprise ending on a receipt. It could also be mentioned before ordering and/or printed on the menu above or below the raw food warning. Otherwise, if you're looking for a quick bite to eat and have cash, I can recommend the pork barbecue. Get the sauce.

When we contacted the server and brought it to her attention, even showing her the omelette, she replied, "Oh well, it was supposed to be on there." She then went and checked with the cook. She came back and reported, "The cook said he put it on there, so maybe it's on the other half." Upon checking the other half, we found only 3-4 pieces of mushroom and tomato pieces. Who only fills up one half of an omelette with the ingredients requested!?! No adjustment was made on the bill. Service was less than adequate. No lemon was provided with the water and tea, even after requesting it. No ketchup was provided for the potatoes and onion rings, we had to ask. No butter was provided with the toast, again, we had to ask. Needless to say, we won't be returning. This was our first and last visit.

The ham was awesome too. Always a wonderful salad bar. It's hard not to eat too much. Sliced prime rib was okay. Didn't try the Parmesan covered chicken. Looked like too much seasoning for me. And the broccoli had what looked like tomatoes in it so I passed on that but I have no complaints and will go again. I don't even care much for roast beef and gravy since most times I've eaten it, it's been tough and not worth the trouble but this was totally awesome so I had two servings of it. Thanks County Seat. Lovely decorations and definitely has a 50s feel to it. I got the bacon jalapeno burger omelette, fries and 2 slices of toast are included. The omelette was delicious and chock full of toppings, my only possible complaint would be that the cheese coverage didn't reach the far end. However, that can probably be specified beforehand and its not enough to knock of a star. Regardless of this, I loved it. The bacon and burger were full of flavor and the grilled jalapenos had just the right amount of spice. The grilled onions on top were a great touch. When you're done with your omelette and there's leftover toppings on the plate, you can use fries to sort of scoop them up (awesome). The service was also great. The waitress was talking to regulars, and even asked us what we were up to today. Food came out pretty quick and she asked us if we wanted refills the moment our cups were low. Overall, nice little place. Forgot to get a picture of the food because I was so focused on eating. If I ever come back through the area between the operating hours of 8 and 2 I will certainly be going here. If I happened to pass through after they closed I would probably break in for the pie. It is very small, with about fifteen stools wrapping around a classic service counter. According to the menu, the diner is a "One-Master Model 15-Stool Valentine steel building," made by Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas, in 1955. They have a small parking lot in back of the diner. I parked there and then saw a bathroom entrance sign -- after a 2 1/2-hour trip, nature was calling. It is a very clean bathroom located at the rear of the building, with a separate entrance from the parking lot. There is no access to the restroom from inside the diner -- a unique and nostalgic feature you don't see much anymore. I walked around to the front of the building, entered, sat down on a stool, and was greeted with, "Y'all having a good day so far?" I had a half sweet/half unsweet tea and the Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayonnaise. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onions, French fries, and cole slaw. I put ketchup on the fries, but the fresh tomato alone provided plenty of flavor for the juicy, delicious burger. The French fries were crispy and delicious -- exactly what you hope for at a classic diner. The cole slaw was outstanding and clearly tasted homemade. The pies looked incredible, and because the cheeseburger platter was so good, I had a piece of blueberry buttermilk cake topped with whipped cream -- wow! There is also a clearly posted 3% surcharge if paying with a credit card. Prices are reasonable, so it didn't feel like an issue. This was a great overall experience, and I would recommend this classic, nostalgic mid-20th-century diner to anyone traveling through Farmville. It closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly!

Their breakfast is incredibly generous and made with ingredients that were fresh, clean, and meticulous in detail. The design of their menu is just so promising with unique twists that are not unheard of, but just an elevated touch when it comes to American diner food as a whole. Things like truffle infused hollandaise, fried green tomato BLT, pairing balsamic with goat cheese, a blackened pork, even mushrooms on the breakfast menu all hint that people developing their menu are confident in their skills in offering something more when it comes to breakfast plates and sandwiches. Their homemade aiolis (highly recommend their pesto aioli) and hot sauce tie any dish together-- breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Things made to this quality are not to be unremarked.
