It looked like a place that has not changed in many decades- so it had a vintage vibe. During my visit, it was quite busy as it was just after 12 noon on Saturday. I read that this place has very good pastries, so that is what I decided to purchase. There were two friendly ladies working behind the counter, so I called one of them to ask for help. She informed me that each item is priced by weight, so after confirming the prices, I purchased three cannolis (three different flavours) and one cream-filled doughnut. Then she let me know that I can pay for them at the checkout close to the exit. After paying for the items, I brought them home to try with my husband. We enjoyed both items- however, if we had to pick our favourite, it would be the cannolis. The exterior was so crunchy (and very satisfying) and the filling was smooth and creamy. Each flavour had the right amount of sweetness to satisfy our cravings! The doughnut was good- it had the smooth and creamy custard filling, but the dough tasted a bit hard (so it was not as pillowly as we thought). During my visit, the employee at the deli handled my sliced mortadella carelessly, which came across as disrespectful and unprofessional. The cashier also lacked basic customer service skills--there was no greeting, no smile, and no "thank you" at the end of the transaction. I understand that everyone has difficult days, but customer-facing staff represent the business and set the tone for the customer experience. Good food can bring people in, but poor service can make customers think twice about returning. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and invests in improving the overall customer service experience.

She said that she was running a bit late, so it was going to be 2:45 pm. I was good with the later time. The eatery that we had chosen is in the same plaza as this Fortinos. My eyes lit up when I feasted them on this store. It looked amazing from afar. I needed to get some groceries, so I decided to spend some time here before meeting up with my friend. I haven't been to a Fortinos in ages. Markham had one eons ago. Richmond Hill is my closest one these days. I haven't been there, either. I should go more often! I parked in a lot that felt like a lower level. I wasn't imagining things. This Fortinos has an elevator with parking available downstairs, too. Staff members were counting how many people were entering and exiting the store. I grabbed a cart and walked in. I was mesmerized by everything that I saw. I'm sure that if you looked at me, my eyes were wide open with excitement. There were huge meatballs and arancini balls at one stand. You could get a stir fry with noodles at another stand. The pizza slices looked so good! I completely stopped in front of the bakery. The most beautiful artisan breads were staring at me. It was carb love at first sight. Fortinos has never been a discount supermarket. However, the variety and quality are superb. I don't mind shelling out for fancy salad dressing, vine tomatoes, and sugar-free, lactose-free ice cream. I managed to get a package of ice cream sandwiches that were both sugar-free and lactose-free. It was heaven. I felt like I normal human being eating them! I love the beer section. I got a can of low-carb beer from Belgian Moon. Who knew? Staff were so friendly. One of them guided me to an open cashier. The woman was great cashing me out. I had an excellent shopping experience here. I would have spent hours at this store. Thank goodness I had to meet up with my friend. Otherwise, I would have been broke by now. It's huge, have almost everything you can crave. Pizza bar, fried food, espresso bar, the candy aisles! So much candy! The olives bar! Yumm. So many different types. Pane, vino, fruita! Seafood though is a ok. But you can get a lot of great stuff here. Their produce section is great. You can always spot a group of older gentleman arguing in Italian by the cafe/ olives bar. Everyone's yelling in Italian all over. It's an experience! Prices are quite high compared to the states but I was told its normal in Canada! Don't even think about getting flowers. It's insane! Seafood: insane! Fruits and vegetables are so fresh though. Pizzas, cured meat etc are cheaper here than the states. I don't mind their bread either. My family gets all their cakes ordered from here. You can get all things Italian in the bakery. They also have Asian food stall/ bar where you can order food to go. I didn't try it but everything else was great. Love their pizzas! This is GREAT if you're not a huge cheese eater and just want enough for something that you're eating without wasting the rest of the brick.
