We celebrated a couple of birthdays at Mill Street Tavern and had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the service throughout our lunch was attentive and welcoming. Everyone at our table loved their meals -- burgers, fries, and sandwiches all around with rave reviews. I ordered "The Bird," and it was absolutely delicious: perfectly cornmeal-breaded with a crispy fried crunch on the outside while staying incredibly moist and flavorful inside. Instead of cake, our group brought blueberry pies and vanilla ice cream, and the staff graciously took everything to the kitchen, sliced and plated the pie, added generous scoops of ice cream, and even placed birthday candles on each slice. Such a thoughtful touch that made the celebration extra special. The atmosphere along the water made it even better. Watching kayaks, paddle boards, and boats pass along Shem Creek while enjoying lunch was the perfect backdrop for a celebration. This has definitely become a new favorite spot for our group! If I could rate this zero stars, I would! My friends and I went to Mill Street Tavern last night for dinner. We placed our orders and 10 minutes later were told the items chosen had just ran out. So we chose new dishes, and again 10-15 minutes later were told these items were no longer in stock. The food chosen were part of their restaurant week menu. The restaurant didn't have any of the options available from their third course selection and when we asked if we could substitute something from the regular menu to still get the restaurant week price, they said no. Finally when we got some available options, we waited...and waited some more...we sat for two hours before our food came out! I would post a picture of my dinner but it never came! Mind you, we arrived for our reservation at 6PM... For my friends who did get their food, everything was burnt. If I could give advice to anyone thinking about eating here...don't! read more

What happened to the prices? Went in for two desserts and beers and paid $60. Dessert was good but not that good. For some reason the bartender came out and talked to all tables. It became a conversation so not really sure why he took over service from the wait staff. Nice view. read more

I have to admit I was excited when MST announced some new additions to their prior stellar line up, but these just didn't HIT like the classics. The bang bang shrimp didn't have that crunchy, fluff that's normally there and were a bit tougher than usual. The crab and corn fritters tasted nothing of their ingredients listed and simply like an expensive peach-colored hushpuppy (6). The pear salad was nice but the dressing tasted like oil with a zest of lemon passed over it. The root beer beef tips had a pleasantly sweet flavor, but the steak itself was chewy. I was pleased that the mashed potatoes are still quite delicious. We tried the new pork belly and this was nice and crunchy (think thick cut strips of bacon versus a chunk of pork belly you would normally get). The brussels sprouts slaw didn't have much flavor beyond the mayo and the potato salad tasted of day-old, dried baked potatoes. These were happily replaced with the sidewinder fries when we let our server know of our distaste. It had been a while since we had been and were hoping that all the kinks from a new menu would be worked out but it appears they still have a little ways to go. For a nice view and time with family, it's a little much for just under $150 to not enjoy most of the eats. But, still... always give a prior favorite dining establishment another try even after hiccups such as these, so looking forward at trying them again in the distant future and being able to update my review more favorably then! read more

I love the Shem Creek area and every time I am in town, I make my way to it like a salmon swimming upstream to spawn. So many good seafood options! The Mill Street Tavern is beautifully situated along the marsh with magnificent coastal views. We sat outside, shaded from the sun, with a gentle breeze cooling us from the noonday heat. Perfect. Our orders of Bang Band Shrimp and Oyster Po' Boy, however, left us disappointed. The batter on the shrimp was drenched in oil and the sauce had little zip and absolutely no bang. Similarly, the oyster batter was thick and crunchy which robbed the oyster of its delicacy. Bummer. We were able to walk in on Easter Sunday afternoon after an outing to Sullivan's Island. We sat outside on a warm day and enjoyed the views of Shem Creek while waiting for our food. We ordered the chargrilled oysters, and Yard Bird Korean fried chicken sandwich. We also ordered sweet teas... The oysters were surprisingly large, and well cooked. We were a little surprised at the Mexican slant on the flavoring, but the menu was clear about that. The chicken sandwich was really good, the crunch of the crust was excellent, along with good flavor throughout. We were warned by our server that the tea was being prepared when we ordered and would take a while. We should have switched to something else, as the tea didn't arrive until we were largely through our meal, and then they were not sweet and had little tea flavor, so we returned them. Should have ordered a margarita or dinner other frozen drink that more aligned with their focus. We also split a key lime pie which was tasty, but obviously not made in-house. read more

Super weird layout for a restaurant. Several tables are built into the wall and face Shem Creek - good idea but you're sitting beside your party rather than facing them. They seemed short staffed as there was no hostess or manager to greet diners as they arrived. Our server was friendly and made suggestions, but never checked on us or offered to fill drinks after our food was dropped. The food itself was pretty bland. Everyone in our party of 6 gave scores of 4-6 for their lunches. The only standout was the bang bang shrimp appetizer that we shared. Don't need to ever come back to Mill Street. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. The location is beautifully located along the creek so you're able to enjoy a water view to watch boats pass by. There is bar, indoor and outdoor seating available. The servers were very attentive. The "notchos" had a very generous portion of toppings, the al pastor pork was tender and juicy. We got bang bang shrimp for the appetizer. It was SO GOOD! Perfectly crisp, not too spicy with a delicious sauce coating. For my main, I got the crab cake sandwich with a side caesar. This is one of our "go to" places whenever we come to town. Today was something different. The food was cold when it came to the table, and the portions were very small. I ordered the low country benny and someone decided I needed salt in my diet because it was one of the saltiest things I have ever eaten, also apparently 1 teaspoon of sauce is enough according to the cooks/ chefs. My wife ordered the skillet and it was good and had good flavor, but it was cold as well. It was not busy as we were one of 3 couples in the entire restaurant. So the service was decent. She kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. All in all this was the most disappointing experience I have ever had here. Really bad. I wish I could get a full refund and go back in time and not have to relieve this experience. It started off poorly only to find out that the ENTIRE menu had changed yesterday. Completely unfortunate to come in expecting sushi, and the typical menu here only to be disappointed. Overall: Food- chicken is inedible. Don't get it. Ambiance- music consisted of "I kissed a girl" by Katy Perry and "birthday sex" by Jeremiah and "hotel room service" by pinball Wait staff - one girl working the entire rooftop, while training someone. She was sweet, nothing against her. It did take 25+ minutes to get our drinks because our bar tender was pre occupied flirting with a group of men. In Summary, hopefully this place can turn around. I love the location, it's a great place to eat that's on Shem but on the end where it's less busy. Generally speaking much easier to park here. The fried oysters and tuna tartar are great starters I highly recommend. The chicken and waffles leaves something to be desired. With many options for chicken and waffles in town, I recommend trying a different dish here. The Shrimp and grits is an excellent option. The strawberry shortcake could have used a touch more sweetness to the berries but is a great summer dessert. The service was slow, my drink was empty for some time before the waitress was able to make it back, and when it came time to get our check we had to flag her down. Understandably Shem gets busy but it was still pretty slow when we were there around 5pm. read more

This restaurant is great. They are right over this nice creek where boats are rented so you get to see people riding boats. The outdoor seating is excellent and so is the indoor seating. The drinks are excellent. We went back multiple times. We had the fried oysters, poke bowl, fried shrimp, and a delicious Cobb salad. You cannot go wrong with this location!! read more

If I was rating service this would be 5 stars. Visited for brunch today ... had my heart set on the skillet scramble BIG TIME.... We ordered and the food was cold, which is a bummer ... I cant do cold food when it supposed to be hot. It was a shame, the server was very apologetic even though it was not his fault as another person brought our food out. The skillet that it came in wasnt hot either. Regardless of the temp everything seemed it was off a buffet or something the scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries down to the choice of bread. We did however order the side of hash browns & sausage that did come out nice and hot those both were very good and flavor was there. My company enjoyed the crab Benedict with the fried tomato that he said he enjoyed. Flavor wasn't there for me on that dish either.. so in a nutshell the sides saved me !! Great gathering spot for our group this evening. Our reservation at 5:45pm on a Sunday was not during peak hour, and the area was pretty empty with only two other parties present. The food arrived quickly, and was delicious. Our group tried the nachos, which had really unique, twisted potato wedge chips! We made reservations at Mill street tavern on a whim during a birthday party at IOP. My wife was skeptical since the restaurant is in Shem Creek and most restaurants can be a bit of a tourist trap. Upon arrival at 4:45 it seemed as if we were the only ones there but more people started trickling in shortly after. The blueberry smash drinks are fantastic whether you have them as is with whiskey or changed up with vodka. We started with the crispy chicken wings, large and delicious and each had a version of the short rib. I did the meal with garlic mashed potatoes and my wife had the sandwich with the Brussels sprouts. Overall great service, excellent view of the water and our son enjoyed dinner so that is even more of a plus. Definitely check this place out! read more

The Mill Street Tavern is a triple threat with food, views, and customer service. We chose to sit inside because of the heat. The views of Shem Creek were amazing with many tables facing out toward the creek to maximize views. The customer service was excellent and our meals came out quickly. We enjoyed the hot honey Brussel sprouts for an appetizer. They were some of the best Brussels sprouts I have had at a restaurant. I ordered the fish tacos and they were delicious. A little heat from jalapeños and a little crunch from the corn paired with the sidewinder fries made for a perfect meal. My som enjoyed the smokehouse burger and he gave it a 9/10. We had a terrific night of food, views and good times at Mill Street. We will be back on our next trip. read more

We walked in for happy hour and they just said "it's at the bar" but didn't show us where it was and when we asked where it was they just pointed to a general direction (which was not obvious) and continued talking to each other. The only positive thing I can say is the waiter was nice. The food was barely even edible. My food tasted like it had been sitting out all day and instantly made me feel sick. My kids food was so overcooked he couldn't eat it. When the door to the kitchen opened up I could see the cook drinking beer so that kind of explains why it was so bad. Incredible view, mediocre food and service. If you are looking for a great view and a calmer side of Shem creek, this is a great spot. However, despite the r place being 1/2 empty, the waiter was trying to move us in and out quickly-too quickly. The avocado toast was okay-but the bread was super thing white bread-nothing special about it that made it worth $15. I would recommend they use a better quality bread and perhaps serve a side salad with it. It was very disappointing. My friend had the eggs Benedict and they looked good, but again nothing to write home about. The worst part was paying in cash and having them come back with two 10s and 2 1son a 28$ tab leaving us to be forced to tip with $10 or $2 and saying they had no other change. Not a good position to be in. Will I return? -possibly, but I doubt it-too many other good spots with good views, good food and great service. read more

We ate DINNER there on 10/2/2025. We were on vacation and poured over menu's and they fit the bill. When we got there, they had an entirely different menu, and nothing we really wanted. The waitress said they had just changed the menu that day. We said she might want to mention to mgmt to fix the online menu because people visiting rely on that. We already had our drinks, and then she never came back. Eventually someone new came over with a scowl on her face and just stood there, we looked at her, 15 seconds went by. she finally hatefully said, can I get you anything. We said, yeah, we'd like to order. She was startled and said "OH, you do??" we said yes and wondered why she seemed startled about us wanting to order. She was not friendly AT ALL. took our order and walked away, came back, set my salad on the EDGE of the table, not in front of me, scowling and hateful the entire time. We didn't know what was going on. we ate, and she came back at the end and WE asked her if our waitress had gone home...had we caught her at the end of her shift. "No, but she told me you weren't happy with the menu, and I said I would check in on you" We were stunned because never once did she tell us who she was (manager), or ask if we had an issue or a question, or a problem or that the waitress had spoken to her, nothing. SHE was just nasty, hateful and scowling the entire time. like we were putting her out. I thought...so this is how you handle an issue? you never told us who you were, never asked us anything. We told her what we told the waitress, how we had chosen this restaurant based on the menu online. She said very condescendingly, "Well, it does say on there that the menu is changing soon". I said, no it didn't, and even if it had, SOON doesn't really tell us anything. SOON could be next month for all we know. She took our dishes and stomped off. SOOOO...If this is how a Manager handles the slightest issue....that place is in trouble. I wish we had gotten her name. She had the worst temperament Ive ever experience. Never in my life, no matter how bad the service was, have I ever not tipped. Maybe less than 20%, but never ZERO. FIRST TIME in my life I left NO TIP. She was HORRID, and will pull that restaurant down. Has no business working with or around customers, let alone have the title of MANAGER!!! read more
