Went for happy hour for the first time! It won't be our last. I like that you can make reservations at the bar in advance . Outstanding bartenders. So knowledgeable and personable. Of course I had to get the fried okra. They have made some menu tweaks and while I love maque choux , it made the okra wet and not crunchy like I prefer it. As you can see in the photo the okra was picked just a tad late. When the pods get that big, the okra becomes a bit stringy. It wasn't terrible, but not nearly as good as I have had there before. Ok so we came here only for happy hour. I guess we should have dressed up more? I got some looks as I checked in since we brought our dog and husband and dog were waiting outside. First negative, I could see them gathering the menus and since we live here (and was out first HH here) , they whispered something and yup that was not to include.the HH menu. So once I realize this as we sit outside, they do bring it once I ask. Pikachu suprise. HH is from 4-6. We were there at on a Friday.. empty!! Anyway, do they switch out the oysters for HH? Because we are now on an oyster roll and these were frankly the worst oysters. No taste, super dinky. Was told it was sea Island ga.given the hushpuppies were not remarkable that we left them behind. Wow! Came here last night and the food did not disappoint. We had family in town and we wanted to give them a true southern food experience. The grit flights is a great choice if you want to try a variety of sweet and savory options. Out of the eight pictured, my favorite was the jalapeño cheddar, it was creamy but also had a lot of heat! I was a huge fan of the truffle chive, but others thought that it was too strong for them. For our entrees, my fiancé had the beef rib with candied yams and I ordered the pan roasted chicken. The beef rib was smokey and the sweetness of the yams balanced out the whole dish. The chicken didn't 'wow' me, but I was a fan of the roasted veggies + grits under it. Everything had so much flavor! The service was great, and I love the atmosphere in this place. It's moody with the interior wood beams, and dimmed lighting. However, we were sat in the back room with long tables and it gets pretty loud in there. This was a wonderful place to pop in for a quick bite. They have a beautiful building with a large outdoor patio, it was too chilly so we sat inside but excited for warmer days an sitting outside. The fish dip was utterly delicious. Fresh and the perfect texture. We got full quickly off the delicious biscuits and didn't have room to explore the menu more, but I'll def be back. The restaurant has a lot of reclaimed wood and other decorations from historical elements of Charleston and is beautiful yet modern. A really nice blend. Make sure to make a reservation if you're wanting to try this place out! They have an awesome brunch menu. We sat outside under the covered patio with the fans so the heat wasn't that bad. Sunday afternoon at 11 AM it was packed! They have a very good and reasonably priced mimosa flight which gets you four juices and a bottle of champagne for only $28. I did the Charleston hot chicken eggs Benedict and it had great flavor, and the English muffin was actually a grit cake. The chicken was crispy and perfectly cooked. You can upgrade your side to any of their signature grits for just two dollars extra and I'm so glad I did! This is my second time coming to grace and grit and it's easily my favorite breakfast place when I travel to Mount Pleasant. Learned about the peach tea this time and it was delicious. Also learned we could build our own grits flight for an extra $2 so we did that along with getting breakfast sides and meat to go with it. We had plenty to eat and food to take home. Came with a friend this evening. First time here and it was definitely 10/10 for decor, cleanliness and the ambiance. Soft dim lighting and very impressive and fully stocked bar! Custom drinks to choose from and really neat whiskey flights. Don't feel like a drink this evening, but thought that it was clever to have some drinks classified labeled under the restaurant name...drinks of "grace" or drinks of "grit". The menu was a bit limited but had a good variety of low country favorites, fresh seafood, and of course grits! I can't have too much dairy and ordered the Joyce Farms Airline Chicken Breast with the presentation of the Boiled Peanut Succotash. Definitely a neat spin on the traditional Succotash and a hearty helping! I could not finish and took the rest home for leftovers. I would like to come back and try the something different. Very good food! We tried 4 different grits and they all were good. I had the scallops over the "blackened" base option, and it was all very tasty. We liked the "blackened" better than the succotash, though it was pretty good as well. My parents got the lobster special and were impressed at the portion of 3 lobster tails they received for a reasonable price. very nice menu, but I would love it even more if they had a nice Ranch Dressing to go with the Frogmore Salad which is very good , but the dressing they serve with it is very bitter, the Old Bay dressing is not great! and a nice Ranch Dressing would be a much better option to serve with it! We went there last night, which was Friday. I played golf in Florence and we didn't get there until 8 o'clock for dinner service as usual as excellent. It's a very beautiful restaurant. We would've liked to eaten outside, but it was kind of cool outside. We both enjoyed our drinks. My wife ordered a honeysuckle martini which she enjoyed and I had two of the Mexican loggers undrafted. I got a picture of our appetizer the steam clams with bacon, which was very good unfortunately, the other pictures I took of our main dishes, didn't get saved. My wife enjoyed her frog more salad It was a deconstructed stew with shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage in a base seasoning vinaigrette she enjoyed it very much. I was in the mood for the french fries so I ordered the fried shrimp and oysters. Unlike other places, everything was seasoned perfectly recently ate at other fish, restaurants and found the coding on the seafood that was fried bland. We started with the southern breads basket which included a biscuit, 4 hush puppies, and a corn muffin plus the best blueberry jam and butter. Grits, arguably can be considered a South Carolina created dish, but as history shows, originated via the Muscogee people, whom were located in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama. As a former chef I used to make different grit dishes every day for several years so I can appreciate the ingredients, creativity and cooking method. So, when a lady I was dating invited me to Grace & Grit for my bday dinner I was extremely excited. Literally located at the foot of the Cooper River (sorry, Arthur Ravenel - I've been away for over 2 decades) bridges, in a quaint and tucked away area, the restaurant can be easily missed. As I walked up, I was curious if I had the wrong place but google is never wrong! Opening the doors, one is immediately hit with a lot of permeating aromas. Smoked drinks, fresh food and fragrant flowers create a harmonious hodgepodge of orders that work together. Meanwhile allow the eyes to wonder a little at the simplistic elegance that Grace and Grit carefully culminates with a flipflop mentality juxtaposed to sophisticated yet extremely local fare. The colors are of dark, light and white grain woods, shells, booths mixed in with simple tables and an immaculately stocked bar with what appeared to be a whiskey forward experience. My waiter was extremely nice and was a wonderful conversationalist with a slight bit of overzealousness in terms of frequenting the table. I didn't mind as he was a very nice person with a playful demeanor. The wine selection isn't huge but I'm not complaining as I was able to order a French red, which is my Achilles heel. I ordered the Château Nuit des Cotes from Rhone (one of my top three fav regions behind Bordeaux and Burgundy) which is a varietal but downright average. A deep garnet color where accented by light and fruity initial hit to the palate but dissipated in a smooth manner that wasn't pretentious but I felt unsatisfied. Since it was my bday I started with a chilled Titos shot since I lived in Austin for 4 years and just moved from there. As for apps, my date ordered the food but didn't consider diversity in her selection. Danger Will Robinson as the carbs are coming! The home-made southern breads were decent. I wish the biscuits could have been studded with butter to allow more flakiness and moisture but I did like the addition of corn in the corn bread, however both suffered from water allergies ala The Witch from The Wizard of Oz. The hushpuppies were pretty good and were moist, probably do to being fried and locking in the moisture while also having a good crunchy texture and flavor. As the "Grit Flight" I was conflicted mainly because I appreciated the creativity but I didn't like the flavor profiles. Please note all the grits were cooked to perfection, creamy and smooth while being al dente. The blueberry grits weren't to my liking as my mind wasn't willing to accept the marriage and the Brussels pesto was exactly what I feared; way too herb forward. The Pimento cheese was another overpowering creation however I ended up loving the coconut cream selection, opting to finish the offering. For dinner my date got the special which was outstanding. A perfectly blackened and moist fish sat atop a pretty good succotash which was studded with a bacon flavor. A nice berry jam cut the richness of the cream while offering sweet notes to compliment the fish. Since I've cooked shrimp and grits basically everywhere that was my selection. Of course, the grits were perfectly cooked but what surprised me is when I see red eye gravy, ie coffee, I cringe. However, it was such a distant background flavor I loved it. The shrimp were plump and juicy with just the right amount of Tasso. The only critique I have based on me and my dates experience is cut back on the salt! Otherwise, a smashing success. Oh I did get a coconut cream grit brûlée for my bday. Surprisingly good and I would order it again in a heartbeat. Well balanced in flavor while not dishonoring the soul of the dish. Overall, I enjoyed my experience however I left feeling bloated which was completely my fault as I shouldn't have trusted my date's advice. Grace and Grit has their cooking techniques down to a perfection although some of their flavor profiles might not be to everyone's liking. I suggest looking over the menu and coming on in to give them a shot, but as I've said, balance what you order so they don't a wheelbarrow to get you to your car. read more

Fun little spot tucked away near Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. We started with the drinks and they were excellent. The old fashioned was really good, and the Sundress was perfect for brunch. Next was the grit flight, which was a great way to try the flavors. We both had the fried shrimp which was really good. The hush puppies were light and not greasy. We saved the best restaurant of our January 2024 Charleston visit for the last night. Five of us had dinner together, so there was plenty of opportunity to try tastes of different dishes. G&G is known for its Gourmet Grits. FOOD (4/5) FRIED CHICKEN LIVERS (4/5) -- Delicious chicken livers served with "Dirty Rice" grits and a smoked tomato sauce. ($9) GRIT FLIGHT (4/5) -- Sampler of four prepations of their Gourmet Grits served in small ceramic bowls, two savory (Pimento Cheese and Brussels Pesto) and two sweet (Carrot Cake and Blueberry).  This was a great way to try preparations that we wouldn't normally order. The Brussels Pesto was my favorite. ($10) FRIED BRUSSEL SPROUTS WITH BACON VINEGRETTE (4/5 $8) LOBSTER TAIL SPECIAL (5/5) -- Three perfectly grilled, juicy, sweet lobster tails with two side dishes (read below). ($42) BLACKENED SNAPPER (5/5) -- Delicious seasoned whole fileted fish cooked medium rare served over Bacon Cooked Butter Beans and Cream Corn with a Blueberry Jam. Yes, the Blueberry Jam worked nicely with the spiciness of the blackened fish. ($32) BEVERAGES (4/5) There's a full bar. Wine list is small but very nice. SERVICE (5/5) Service was excellent. We had some menu questions, and our server happily checked with the kitchen if she didn't know the answer ... and returned quickly with the answer. She was very attentive during our meal. Our servers spent a significant amount of time chatting with the table behind us, which became distracting and made service feel inattentive at our table. The food also took quite a while to arrive. When it did, it unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. The pimento cheese grits were very mushy and had a glue-like consistency, and overall the dishes were fairly underwhelming. A flight of grits was what makes this establishment a special dining experience during my visit to Charleston. And I loved the idea there was 10+ versions of grits to dress up your flights. Our server was very attentive to our needs because our group was picky on the main course, the selection of drinks and what dishes were in season. The soft shell crab and grits were the best this place offered and it was great to know we were in the last season for Charleston to have localized crab. The tenderness, size and fresh quality was so good we ended up getting 3 plates of it, even before we made it to the entrees. The grits were all very loaded, rich in texture and the right amount of thick coating. Every flavor we had was better than the last. I can see why this place named itself Grace & Grit. Wine picks were superb and even the recommended types of whiskey the Front of House director himself came out to guide us on. Loved everything about this place and how knowledgeable the staff was to make our visit grand. I would come back to this restaurant to try any other in-season seafood dishes they have to offer.
