We found Mondo Ice on accident during a family vacation at the river several years ago. We loved it so much, we make sure we hit the truck every year during our annual trip. Perfect treat after going river tubing in the summer heat. For $6, you get a giant heaping mound of Hawaiian-styled shaved ice doused in flavored syrup. You can order multiple flavors and/or get a snow cap where they can add some condensed milk on top to give the shaved ice more sweetness/creaminess. I was perfectly satisfied with my GUAPO (guava, passionfruit, and orange) shaved ice. They did not have a physical location, but we happened upon their truck at the Monte Rio Beach by the Russian River in downtown Monte Rio. This place was an amazing find! We saw a sign for Hawaiian shave ice and plants and had to stop. Our kids ordered a banana and a tiger's blood shave ice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream scoop was buried smack in the middle of the finely shaved ice and we got the snow cap on top. It was perfection. (This is not the generic shaved ice that you get at fairgrounds that clumps up into giant frozen chunks with neon, overly sweet syrups. This is the real thing!) The tigers blood flavor used real strawberries and you could even see the seeds. It was absolutely delicious. I initially questioned my son's choice of banana, but it was also fantastic and not overly syrupy. We also picked up a little succulent in a cute cement pot that they said was made on site. Very friendly and a nice, relaxed vibe. I highly recommend it! The vintage truck also serves Thai iced tea and cold brew coffee if you're not up for the shave ice. read more
