I think people are missing the point of this God-sent and willed establishment -- this is bar food where you are there late at night just there to have a good time and enjoy a meal that would make you regret your past self the next morning. The food here is simple -- it's not the best food, well, besides for their loaded fries that pairs so well with their ranch that would make you put that sh*t on everything. The prices aren't bad, some of the food is under seasoned or dry -- burgers -- but it's all guilty pleasures that would get you by in life. The place gets pretty loud and hectic, more quiet on the outside, but it's all good fun and vibes where you don't have to worry about too many drunkards and just enjoy the fiasco of bad drivers that pass by. From our OU days ('77- '81) some of our best memories were at the Mont. drinking age was 18, the margaritas were incredible yet it was always-always the bean & cheese nachos. Our visit to Norman this weekend for a sorority reunion & the OU win against Kansas, you CAN go home again. The nicest hostess - we waited patiently for our patio table and had fantastic service. While waiting I went to the inside bar where Mac created the BEST Patio Pleaser margaritas. Those nachos. The little side of chopped jalapeños, we ordered it 2x. I am going to be honest. The food here is mediocre at best, but I don't think anyone enjoys The Mont specifically because of the food. In a college town that has been stripped of mom and pops only to be replaced by terrible chain restaurants, The Mont has stood the test of time. It's been a restaurant since the 1920's and has changed hands many times over the decades. When my parents were young, it was called The Monterrey and was more of a Tex-Mex bar and grill. When I was growing up in the 90's and early 00's it was The Mont but the menu was quite different and I believe slightly better than it is now. The one thing that has not changed is their Original Sooner Swirl, a cocktail that has since been made famous and copycatted everywhere. They also still have an amazing large patio with misters, ambient lighting and gargoyle lamps. Inside is a dark and musty bar with booths, tables and a circular booth that can seat very large parties on request. I think of it as more of a Sports bar with Tex-Mex and All American options. It's absolutely packed most days of the week and when football is in season, game days are impossible to get in. As someone who lived in the Los Angeles area for over a decade, their parking lot causes the same panic and stress that I have only ever felt in Downtown Los Angeles trying to find a place to park that is close to the venue and will not tow. I highly recommend opting for a ride share as it will make your visit that much more enjoyable. read more

We stopped here on our way home from camping this past weekend. You have to wear a mask while waiting to be seated, walking to you table and any place except sitting at your table. It was a beautiful night and we decided to sit outside. The hostess was super sweet and showed us her table. The outside area is definitely the draw to this place. I'd love this back when I went to college here and it was still as beautiful as I remember. I got a sooner swirl and the boyfriend got his normal Jack and Coke. Our waitress brought me out an unsweet tea and brought him an unsweet tea as well. He ordered water and she seemed upset at the fact we corrected her so we were really worried about our service but she recovered nicely. For dinner I ordered the chicken tacos and the boyfriend got one of the Mexican dishes as well. I thought the food was a little bland but the boyfriend loved his mail. I gave him four stars because everything seemed fresh and homemade. Their salsa is delicious and you can tell it's definitely homemade. We ended dessert with the chocolate cake from La baguette, which was amazing. The meal was under $50 so we were stoked! Great value!!! read more

I got the chicken fried steak perfectly done and the white gravy was par- none. I personally have never tasted a better gravy. I passed this restaurant and it seemed like a small place where possibly students and their parents got together. This place will always been a favorite of mine. I came here almost weekly with my friends in college and I was so excited when my boyfriend suggested it for date night this week. I got the chicken nachos and one of their famous swirls. The nachos were really delicious and smothered with cheese like nachos should be. The swirl tasted weaker than I'm used to so I'm wondering if they changed up the recipe. I hope not but that is why I said 4 stars and not 5. Sitting outside was surprisingly comforttable on a hot summer day. Service was a bit slow and we were not checked on often. Would have ordered more if the waitress came back. Good food. Bad service, at least 2 of 3. My girlfriend has been working late this week so we've been eating late. I've never been to The Mont pass 11:30 pm so I had no idea their kitchen closed at 12:30 am because the hours are listed on Google until 2 am (many other places that have separate kitchen and bar closing times has it listed differentiated on Google). But that's fine. Anyway, my gf and I stopped by around 12:40 the first night. The waitress could've just come up and told us the kitchen was already closed, but she chose instead to just walk around ignoring us and would've continued had I not called her over. She somewhat rudely told us the kitchen closed at 12:30 am, so we apologized and left. EXACTLY ONE night later we came back again because of the same circumstances at 11:50 pm and another waitress rudely told us "the kitchen closes in 20 minutes." So math is not a strong point along with customer service apparently. Finally, this waitress gets traded out for a 3rd waitress who was spectacularly polite and helpful. I asked for her name but it was too loud to hear her clearly. It was something along the lines of Cherry, Charity, or Sherry. Whoever you were, thank you for doing your job so exceptionally and being so polite! I've been to The Mont a lot before, but this experience has tainted my view of it. Not to downgrade fast food, but I've seen better service and mannerisms from late night staff at McDonald's. I highly doubt I will be going back anytime soon, and I don't recommend you do either. read more

This is a place to go if you want to get liquored up and have some chips. The main courses are subpar at best, laden with salt, and not worth eating. The appetizers are decent and I would definitely recommend the Smoked Chicken, Spinach and Artichoke Dip. A huge "Five stars" for the patio dining area. Now on to the food. Average best describes the meal we had at the Mont. Don't get me wrong our meal was just fine. Very workman like with large portions and a small price tag. We had the beef tacos, grilled ham & cheese sandwich, fried mushrooms, a house salad, and wrapped it up by splitting a carrot cake. A shout out for the fried mushrooms they were first rate. Now on to the patio dining experience. It was almost magical. A cool evening breeze, wonderful mood lighting, excellent service. Wouldn't let me finish a sentence about what I was trying to order, so of course it was wrong. Also wasn't listening on the phone so that's where the problems began. After trying to explain what I was trying to say (Just to be interrupted and told what I said was wrong), I left with an incorrect order instead of trying to fix it again. A divey spot in Norman that was talked up... Upon arriving, the waiting area had plastic chairs in the parking lot- set up was a bit awkward. However it was covered from the sun, which was a plus. We asked to be sat outside on the patio. Service was okay but it was quite busy for the staff so understandably slower than normal - food was alright... I get that it is a staple of Campus Corners and nostalgic, but to a non-local it just looked run down and in need of a thorough cleaning. read more
