Dear "Customer Service Team, I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment and concern regarding the recent charter of Pitter Patter through The Moorings Bahamas. My wife and I have chartered with your company at least five times in the past, and we understand that boats can experience mechanical issues. However, what we experienced on this trip was far beyond a typical breakdown--it reflected poor management, a lack of transparency, and decisions that compromised both our safety and enjoyment. We arrived on time and were fully prepared for our scheduled departure. Upon arrival, Christopher Robbins informed us that the boat needed to be cleaned and that this would take approximately 1-2 hours. Almost immediately afterward, he told us the boat had been struck by lightning a few days earlier. He then stated that the team had been working on the boat for days to get it ready. This directly contradicted his earlier comment about needing to clean it, so I asked him for clarification: "Have you been working on it for days, or did it just get back today and now needs to be cleaned?" That inconsistency raised immediate concerns about the boat's readiness and safety. Mr. Robbins left us sitting in the office for about an hour. Upon his return, he reported that the fuel gauge and water maker were not working, but they were "working on it." He offered us an alternative: a switch to a power catamaran. My wife and I agreed, believing it would be better to take the power cat than risk a rushed repair on the damaged sailboat. We inspected the power cat, agreed to take it, and were told it simply needed to be cleaned. About an hour later, Mr. Robbins returned and told us the power cat now had "issues." I suspect this boat was being held because it needed to be delivered to a different Moorings location, as the explanation didn't add up. His new solution was to "visually inspect" the fuel and water tanks and send us out on the sailboat anyway, despite his earlier claims that it was unfit to sail. Once again, this inconsistency was alarming. Checking the fuel requires lifting the bed mattress and the cover door to access the tank. We finally departed almost five hours late, with no working water maker, no fuel gauge, and a boat we did not feel safe on--but we were eager to get underway. Upon arrival at our first destination, we quickly discovered additional failures: * None of the appliances or outlets worked. * Two of the heads were non-functional. * The forward light box was left open with taped wires exposed. * The generator randomly shut off, killing the air conditioning. * We could not even charge our phones--leaving us without access to navigation tools and wind/tide apps. I called maintenance, and even the manager agreed that the boat was not fit for sailing. We requested the power cat be delivered to us immediately. The next day, we were told it would arrive around noon. At 1:00 PM, I called for an update. They were "about to leave." At 2:00 PM, they were "leaving the dock." At 3:00 PM, we were told they had "just left." The boat finally arrived at 4:30 PM. We essentially lost two full days of our charter waiting around due to inconsistent communication and poor coordination. Had we been told the truth about the delay, we could have at least explored the island instead of waiting on false timelines. To make matters worse, when I requested to speak with Mr. Robbins again, he refused to speak with me. It was clear he was in over his head, and that proper support and leadership were lacking throughout this situation. This situation could have been avoided had we been given honest, consistent information and a truly seaworthy vessel. I look forward to your response and to resolving this matter fairly. Sincerely,

I attended the Moorings with my parents and brother. I can't speak highly enough about this company, specifically our Captain Wayne and co-captain Kathy. Firstly, seeing BVI by boat is unbelievable - the clear blue water, incredible snorkeling, stunning weather, and starry skies is the perfect Thanksgiving getaway! Next, the Moorings lives up to their high quality reputation. Lastly, our crew was simply wonderful. Wayne and Kathy truly made the week so special. They are down to earth, kind and conscientious, knowledgeable and very experienced. They bring top quality and a family feel to the luxury yacht adventure. Delicious food, comical stories, and a safe and comforting environment for every member of our family. Would totally do it again, specifically with them! Hats off!

we chartered a 42 foot catamaran from the sunsail/moorings base in Placencia, Belize in December 2022. They seem to be one company now. I had an excellent experience and want to leave a five star review. The staff were courteous, and the pre-departure briefing was thorough. The boat was clean inside and there was no marine growth on the bottom. Every engine on the boat to include the two main engines, the generator, and the outboard all started on the first try and ran well. There is an electric windlass for the anchor and an electric winch to raise and sheet in the main sail both of which worked. A color chart plotter with all the anchorages clearly marked made navigation easy. There was a guidebook with sketch charts of all the anchorages and sailing directions to get in. All the interior lights worked and the mast head light made finding a way back to the boat in the dinghy at night easy. The dinghy easily accommodated six adults and was in excellent condition. There was a book on board with the price for any loss or damage to every piece of equipment on the boat. We broke a boat hook and were charged the listed price which I think was fair. Sailing conditions were warm weather with winds ranging from 10 to 22 mph. The boat performed well as both the main and jib were self tacking. This feature made sailing up wind easy. You are only allowed to sail inside the reef so the seas were flat and made for delightful sailing. While the main had 2 reef points and the jib was roller reefing, we did not need to reef the sails in these conditions. We only used the air conditioning for part of one night when we got rained on and had to close all the hatches. Anchoring can be tricky with lots of seagrass and coral heads, but a lot of anchorages have mooring balls and it's easy to tie up to mooring instead of using your own anchor. We had a boat with a 12 volt water maker and were disappointed with its low output of only 10 gallons per hour. The boat had 300 Lliters of water storage and we ran out on the last night. All the other boats have a 110 volt water makers and I recommend you make sure to get one of those. We had all kinds of fun experiences and met lots of friendly locals. We never once felt threatened by any type of crime. I thought Sunsail/the moorings was an excellent company I had a great experience. I recommend a bareboat charter in Belize to anyone.

The trip out of Tortola was wonderful however, (reviews are about the catamaran, not the staff, which was very good )these boats could use some attention as far as maintenance. Our water maker was not working and we were told by many others that theirs was not either. Our generator went out so we had no AC for sleeping one night luckily they sent someone to fix it. It could be a little cleaner as the outdoor furniture and Appearance of the catamaran looked a bit tired. Some extra towels would be nice instead of using the same one for one week The refrigerator throws so many of our vegetables so we had to throw them away read more

I wish I had read this before deciding to book with them. just had a week from hell. Skipper was horrendous. a woman who did not even greet us when we arrived, had a super bad attitude. was a week with us a family of 4 and never learnt our son's names, forgot to pick us up from land and would not pick up the phone, when we called as she forgot to pick us up and we had no way of getting to the boat. She got into fights with neighboring captains, decided when and where she would move us, was truly horrendous. We cut the trip short as she was getting scarier and were promised a refund which they then said would instead be a credit (that would be useless as we would never go back) and now they did not even send that. We sent whatsaap and showed videos of this behavior and radio silent. speaking to lawyer as this is unacceptable! read more

the worst abaco Bahamas is a very unprofessional outfit. The boats are in terrible condition. They have a zero proactive maintenance program and zero maintenance logs. All of their maintenance is on a reactionary basis. We had to switch out boats once due to the odor coming out of the bathrooms and none of the systems work sufficiently. For a seven day trip , it was as bad as it gets, do not waste your money with this company. They only give you credit for essential issues. Everything on the list is not essential . safety equipment is not essential. The only essential items are the transmission the motor and it's ability to move forward and reverse. Read the small print and expect nothing to work. The mattresses are 3 inches thick and are worn out. It is a nightmare to sleep. read more

These guys are a total scam. Here is my experience. 1) they charged me twice for the same charter ($28,000) and it took them over a month (and daily phone calls) to reverse the second charge. 2) I paid for the higher level of boat (Exclusive Model), and was given an old boat. They have refused to answer my calls or emails to give me a refund, and my charter ended over a month ago. They are basically scam artists -- happy to take your money, but nobody will answer the phone/email when they can't deliver the service you paid for. read more

let me start by saying this was our 11 bareboat charter in the BVI. Our first, and last, with The Moorings. At the start of the cruise we were given an orientation of the boat by the Moorings staff and then sent off on our way. part of the orientation was a very detailed course on how to operate the water maker. An important detail when you have 8 people on the ship. The morning following our departure I noticed that the water maker appeared not to be working. We returned to the yacht harbor at which time they told us that it was broken and had been waiting on a part! But not to worry all we needed to do was go into port anytime we needed water, pay for it, and they would reimburse us at the end of the trip! Pretty convenient for our luxury vacation. The isinglass was at the end of its useful life span. Most of the zippers were either stuck or completely deteriorated. The refrigerator was completely rusted on the exterior and most of the kitchen equipment was of a quality I would expect from a Motel 8. All of this was brought up at the end of the charter and we were told that someone would be in contact with us soon. To this date we have heard absolutely nothing back from them. Even after over 15 calls into the customer service number! read more

The Moorings 52.4 Charter Issues Boat: "Glad 2 B Here" - Moorings 52.4 Exclusive (1 or 2 years old) Charter Fee (not including additional fees and charges): $13,999.00 Charter Dates: 8 April to 15 April 2025 This is what we paid for: A quote from The Moorings website - "The Moorings is proud to welcome the newest addition to their world-class fleet - The Moorings 52.4. Designed by the renowned French boat manufacturers at Beneteau, this elegant cruiser sets the pace for liveability on board and high-end performance. With 4 double en-suite cabins sleeping up to 8 guests comfortably, and a convertible saloon that offers sleeping arrangements for up to two additional guests, this spacious yacht allows for maximum comfort on the water, making it the perfect offshore cruiser for families and large parties. Equipped with the latest in yacht technology and upgrades, including a watermaker, inverter, solar panels, underwater lights, electric transom, electric winch, bow thruster, gas grill, and generator-powered air conditioning, the 52.4 offers the ultimate in onboard comfort, ensuring a stress-free charter vacation for all." Existing Issues with the boat when the charter began: 1. No bow thruster as advertised 2. No gas grill as advertised 3. Water maker was not operational 4. Later learned that the inverter was not operational 5. Large hole in starboard side window frame 6. Large chip in anchor locker hatch 7. Spreader lights (deck illumination) inoperable 8. Cockpit lighting inoperable 9. Two of the four toilet seats were broken and fell completely off 10. Forward, port cabin hatch would not stay open 11. Several cabin leaks 12. Fuel tank gauges were not operational 13. Water tank gauge was not operational Issues with the boat discovered after we were underway: 1. House batteries failed to hold charge and had to be replaced by the service people at our mooring location. Spent several hours of our "vacation" troubleshooting this issue and waiting for service. It is difficult to believe that the house battery would fail on a boat less than two years old. 2. Once batteries were replaced it was discovered that the master inverter was inoperable. So, no 120VAC outlets were functional. We could not operate the coffee pot, toaster, microwave or WiFi unless generator was running. Service dept. had no replacement for the inverter, so we were told to run the generator. We expressed concern for our fuel levels, since we would have to run the generator excessively. Service instructed us to top off the fuel tanks (since we had no fuel gauges) and submit the bill to Moorings for reimbursement. 3. Jib sheets were rigged for a self-tacking jib. When the jib was unfurled, it was much too large. The sail could not be set properly even if it was only partially unfurled. This ruined our sailing experience for the entire charter. 4. Main sail would not drop. Too much friction in the track. 5. The main sail battens would catch in the lazy jacks every time we raised the sail. Had to use boat hooks on both sides to clear it. 6. The engine RPM (tachometer) was not readable on the liquid crystal display. 7. The saloon dining table brackets were loose, making it unstable and impossible to use for sleeping. 8. The forward, port toilet was not operational. We troubleshot and found a circuit breaker so loose that it couldn't make electrical contact. After troubleshooting, we corrected this by wedging part of a clothespin to hold it in place. 9. VHF radio was not operational (I had to use the handheld that I brought) 10. The transmission clutch slipped excessively, making it slow to change from forward to reverse. 11. The cooling water inlet screen for the generator was not sufficient to stop sargasso and other floating debris from plugging the thru-hull fitting and hose. It never got as far as the filter. The loss of the generator caused the crew to go without air conditioning for three very uncomfortable nights (also no wind scoops). With three on-site service calls and many troubleshooting phone calls, the service department made a valiant effort to keep us going, but could not stop this boat from ruining our vacation. It became evident that more than one of The Moorings staff knew that this boat was not ready for charter. Yet, they put us on it anyway. This was inexcusable! read more

We had the worst experience with The Moorings on a 543PC. We spent over $21,313 for a power cat less than 3 years old. The boat we were given was old, broken and damaged. To start - the boat was never cleaned, the cushions were ripped, torn and moldy, there were 2 teak chairs missing - causing us to use the cooler at meal times for additional seating. The refrigerator was a nightmare (photos attached). It was encrusted with old food and mold from previous use. The shelving brackets were rusted and the exterior was decaying. The boat had not been cleaned- the floors, shelves, bathroom floor, shower wall all fill with dirt, dust and human hair. Totally gross. Now for the important parts- The mechanicals, no bow thruster, port engine kept cutting out, one head had the shower head dcu taped together, water pump ran continuously, air conditioning worked sporadically, there was a leak in the sink in the flybridge that drained approximately 60 gallons of water every day. There are more items that didn't work - too many to list. The Moorings' customer care is non existent in this whole nightmare. You have absolutely no recourse on the type and age of the boat you pay for upfront - once you get there you are out of luck. From the grumpy greeting when we arrived to this whole week of being ignored by the customer service department I highly recommend you think twice about chartering from The Moorings. read more

We had an awful experience aboard a 53 ft sloop. Here are the things that were not working: vhf failed day one and on a request for repair , no one showed up the entire week, water aboard was only good for one day and water maker was broken, told water was available in anegada but it was not, bow thruster was broken, bathroom hardware fell apart, generator in the stern was very noisy at night and one needed to run a/ c at night due to horrible ventilation, and lastly the manager was horrible to deal with in getting a refund of any value and one needed to negotiate over and over. read more

We flew to Belize and landed in the remnants of a tropical storm. Rain was coming down in sheets and the forcast was for more of the same all week. It was not safe to go sailing so we flew home. We asked for a credit for a future sailing charter but Moorings basically said "screw you". I have nothing good to say about Moorings. read more

If we could give a zero, we would. We just finished a trip in BVI with Moorings. On the Aloha, boat was not clean, smelled horrible, duct tape hanging from the ceiling in the saloon, beeping going off the entire trip from the electrical panel in the saloon, first night the batterys wouldn't charge so captain had to run the motor ALL night. Miserable. Our early check-in that we paid 1200.00 for never happened as they were still desperately searching for a captain. One finally came and once to the boat our provisions weren't there. It was a hot mess. Leslie, one of the managers said she would refund our 1200.00 "immediately ", it's been 4 weeks, no refund and they are ditching our calls and emails. I can go on but you get the jist. Never again Mooring! read more

Worst charter company ever. We chatered a 46 Power Cat out of Tortola, BVI and I was warned on another chat about a yacht named Dreamean. Was told this yacht had generator problems and it would not start. They had 5 days of no AC and running off battery power. We arrived and had an early sleep aboard on Friday 7/5/24. We have done this before and I have never got a yacht before 5:30 PM. You are told you can't board until 6 PM typically. We were called and told our yacht was ready and it was only 3 PM. I asked what the boat name was and it's the same yacht. I questioned Customer Service Manager Lindsey about the generator being fixed and she swore it was. The generator was running for 20 minutes and seemed good. The slider door lock was broke and needed to be fixed and took 5 attempts before it was fixed the next day. The sun loads were missing and had to ask for new ones and there was no way to snap it down. They should have took the 3 extra hours and go over the yacht before letting us have it. The next morning got up and realized there was no coffee pot and it took 2 hours to get it replaced. Once off the dock we went to Jost Van Dyke where the generator quit. Inspecting the generator closer found that there was an oil leak and it was extremely hot with rags stuffed under it to soak up the oil. The was an extreme safety and fire hazard. We made it a decision to return the yacht the next morning since the mechanics would not call us to see if there was something we could do. Worse customer service! We arrived back at the Tortola base and complained and got another yacht. We had to switch over all our belongings and provisions and while doing so my wife had to balance on a 6 inch by 6 inch step onto the dock. She ended up slipping and tearing all the ligaments across her foot. She ended up going to the hospital for X-rays. This happened at 10 AM and by 1 PM we were finally ready to leave the dock again. The staff stated we needed to do an incident report for them. Not sure why we were asked to do their incident report. I told them we would turn something in at the end of our trip since we have been at the base for too long. I went to the new yacht, Perfect P, and went to start the engine and the starboard engine would not start due to a Fire Extinguishing System warning. We finally got a mechanic to look at it and 45 minutes later he bypassed the issue and we were able to start the engine. The rest of the trip was good except for a few items coming apart like the door handle. After our trip I wanted to talk with Customer Service in Clearwater, FL and unable to get them to return my multiple calls and Emails. The Customer Service in BVI decided to refund $2,000 "Cash" for the inconvenience, yet used my credit card I had on file for deposit only. If I was to agree with this weak offer that is only $333/per person for the inconvenience and no way to give them the portion due to it being refunded on my credit card. After this Moorings stopped all communication and refuse to deal with their dis-satisfied customers. This is the worse company service I have ever experienced. This was our 8th charter with them and it will be our last. read more

Moorings BVI BEWARE! The trip was in May 2024... Yacht PC534 Contract Board time 12:PM Thursday. 12:30PM the marina supervisor advised everything checks out, the vessel is ready to board. Briefer arrives in ten minutes. We go thru the basics of the yacht Discover the boat low on fuel ...must fill b/4 departure... Discover the AIS Feature is not working on the Navigational Chart, this identifies other boats in the area. We are now informed our chartered Exclusive PC534 I chartered water making system was not operational. ....I explain this is why I leased this yacht...for the convenience...so my guests wouldn't have to limit showers to 60 seconds etc. I ask for a replacement boat...nothing available. Next we inspect the bow....one of the sun pads is missing can't be replaced ...the other sun pad is torn exposing the foam pad...also stained. Obviously not what you spend this kind of money for...Not happy.. but with few options and guests that had never explored the islands in the BVI I try to make it work. A few days later early am planing to leave the North Sound for Anegada...the port engine will not turn over. I call the Moorings service desk...several calls and two hours later the tech says he's on his way After 3 hours tech shows up fiddles with the fuel line...says it had collapsed flat...?? We've lost half the day and not really confident with the engine repair so I put off the trip to Anegada. New morning planning to leave for Anegada same issue port engine will not turn over...it finally starts after 20 minutes.... To be safe and not dealing with this issue half way to Anegada I call service to check it out same issue again... 4 hours later... port engine batteries are replaced and same fuel line adjusted again. Another half lost I postpone the Anegada trip again Next morning the engines struggle but turn over...we make the Anegada trip. My disgust is the fact before boarding to take this 7 night trip the Marinia supervisor told me everything on the yacht checked out all good ready to board...knowing the water maker was not operational...the vessel was missing sun pads...not to mention stains on the sun pads torn sun pads...AIS Nav equipment not up to par. The briefer know about these issues. This is the Exclusive PC534 you spend big $$$$ for....travel thousands of miles expecting first class experience, accommodations (water maker), fully serviced and working engines / batteries, clean and with all features (sun pads). So the Moorings in BVI sell you on this first class yacht charter...then poorly service the boats for the next charter and try to pull off with all of the deficiencies...knowing you have few options. Return home: I've made several phone calls to the Moorings. They take my call. I advise them I needed to speak to someone other than the BVI base supervisor (for obvious reasons) customer service said they understood...but I never received any communication from customer care corporate... other than e-mails from the BVI supervisor noting they will try to do better. NEVER AGAIN WITH THIS YACHT COMPANY " THE MOORINGS" BEWARE! read more

Moorings 5800 Crewed 10 guest Catamaran to BVIs March 2024 We rented a fully crewed catamaran in March to celebrate our 30th Anniversary with 5 couples. Beth was outstanding at providing quotes and options and information as I navigated this process for a first time. I was apprehensive as I have never spent more than a couple of hours on a catamaran, let alone stay several nights with friends in close quarters. After the trip, I told my husband I am done with beach vacations and cruises and now only want to travel on crewed boats over pristine waters. The facilities were perfect, and we had 3 separate areas on the boat that easily accommodated 10 + people so there was plenty of space to be together or spread out and of course we had the water anytime we wanted as well. Captain Cozy was very capable but a chilled captain which put everyone at ease. Jan did a fabulous job of feeding us all meals, even with some dietary challenges. We ate one dinner off the boat and honestly, I preferred Jan's cooking by far. Kate stocked the bar and kept all the spaces clean and refreshed. The water and islands were amazing but just being pampered the whole trip is what I will remember. It gave us time to enjoy friends, nature, great food and drink and rest. We will be back. I am excited to try some of the other Caribbean trips and trips in the Mediterranean and Croatia! Happy Endings-Dallas Texas, so perfectly describes our vacation. Thank you Moorings! read more

This a review of the planning, not the charter itself which is a bit over two weeks from now. I just wanted to thanks the trip planners both at the charter desk and the flights desk. Gina and Soun have been incredibly responsive to our needs as things have changed. We, too, had to cancel a trip in 2020. We let the deposit go. But, when we set about re-organizing in 2023, the company honored the deposit from 2020 for this year's trip. The flight desk was incredibly helpful making all the arrangements. I'll let you know about the actual charter. But the people in the planning stage really need to be recognized for how good they are. read more

May 2023 Had an amazing week in the BVI on a Moorings 50 foot catamaran captained by Sam Crone. I have sailed numerous times; however, never has the captain executed absolutely all the sailing duties, made dinner reservations, arranged transportation, cleaned daily, provided wealth of information and in general, was a highly competent concierge for everything and anything. It truly was an amazing trip thanks to our fabulous captain and makes all the difference. The Moorings Marina staff in the BVI was also delightful to deal with Lindsay with the charter, Judith in the new provisioning store and Eric, managing our luggage. Thank you Moorings for an unforgettable vacation! read more

The Moorings promotes an unforgettable experience when chartering one of their vessels. That is exactly what we had, an unforgettable nightmare experience. In short, we chartered a 10 day trip in the Bahamas Exuma islands with a 43 ft. Leopard power catamaran. When boarding our vessel, we discovered the A/C on the starboard side was not working, there was no 12 volt power on the port side, the VHF microphone was missing, there was water in the port side bilge, the holding tanks had broken handles, so they didn't function properly, and the water maker was not working. Day 1 was spent at the dock waiting for repairs at a cost of $1100.00. Only the A/C and 12 volt problem were fixed. On Day 2 we left the Nassau home base and went to Highborne Cay and anchored for the night. The next morning, we went to pull anchor and discovered the windless was not working. We had to call for base help, waited all day on board and got it late in the day. We stayed at the island overnight and the next morning went to lower the dinghy and the elevator line broke. We were stranded on the boat for the second day. Again, we called base for help and got it late in the day. On day 4 we went to pull anchor and discovered the hook on the chain that attaches to the bridal had come off and lost in the water. Consequently, we had no bridal when anchoring which made that uncomfortable, lots of swinging and chain rubbing against the hull. The first time we got fuel we discovered the winch handle was broken making it difficult to open the fuel caps. There were other minor problems with the vessel like the arm in the shower would not go up, loose and floppy isinglass and no deck lights at night. Sadly, all these issues reflect poor maintenance at the base. Our first 4 days were nothing but problems and the rest of our trip had to be altered because of those issues. This was especially painful because the dates of trip were to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. So, my advice is Charterer Beware....it may cost you thousands of dollars for an unforgettable miserable experience. read more

10 days at the BVI Moorings, stayed 2 nights at the base hotel, everything you need waiting on your boat! and that's where the problems are evident after the "check in procedures " no sense of urgency to get you out on the water. Cleaning, mechanicals, fueling, provisioning, water toys all done on the same day and it's very obvious that's not done very well with all the good intentions from most of the ground crew, not all. The best part is you can't know the name of your Boat, I wonder why....! If something is wrong you wait with no explanation or communication and the clock is ticking, on a $14000 charter still on dry ground . Finally we got on board, safety briefing, the boat stinks like urine, cleaning is mediocre and no provisioning (late), the boat is well used, banged up all around , cracked counters, duck tape holding panels, splatter sticky liquid on the galley ceiling, snaps missing from the deck cushions, windows that don't stay closed and broken latches, busted dinghy engine, nothing like portrayed in the fancy advertisements and the immaculate new boats. Everyone around must not be in a hurry to get you out, telling us to check for everything that they might have missed, and the clock is ticking trying to figure out if we have enough daylight remaining to get to our first destination. But don't you dare to miss the return time precisely, it's evident that their time is important but not ours. In conclusion we made it happen and had a very good time but it wasn't our job to provide us with decent equipment that cost us $14000 for 7 days of bare bone charters. It's interesting that they try to get you interested in yacht ownership (and we were interested in that possibility) after all we were using somebody else's yacht, if that is how they take care of a boat that was in-trusted to them we don't want to have no part of that! Just poorly run operation, most of the people on the ground are wonderful and full of good intentions, it's the company management that's responsible for this mess and company procedures! read more

We rented a charter in Nassau to explore the Exumas - our boat's battery died (had to pull the anchor chain up by hand and pull sails up by hand), one of the boats we had only had one propeller and another couldn't make water. THEN when we finally limped into the marina they turned around and rented those same boats the same day to another family. Oh and one radio did not work unless you were about 100 yards from another boat. Extremely dangerous. read more
Another awesome charter this year... We took a Club 41.3. Now this is a helluva lot of boat for just the 2 of us. But with the weather this time around we were glad to have it. Provisioning felt like more than last time, we even had 3 extra days at a resort, brought all our extra food with us and we still couldn't eat it all!!! We bought lots of bottled water, was perfect, bought lots of rum and had a rum gift on our boat when we arrived. We were greeted with smiling faces and such accommodating staff, we were even able to swap out a few veggies for ones we would eat instead wasting some that we wouldn't. We are loyal Moorings fans and feel like I wouldn't even risk our experiences going with another charter company...we have it made with the Moorings!!! read more

I would absolutely not recommend this company. My husband and I booked a trip in March 2020 for Jan 2021. We asked if a full refund would be provided if the trip had to be cancelled due to COVID so long as we cancelled 3 months in advance. We attempted to cancel the trip 4 months in advance when flights from the US to BVI were no longer running and we told the person that promised the refund was no longer working there and that Mooring Charter company would be keeping our $400 deposit if we chose to cancel. Customer service was deplorable. I would recommend anyone who enjoys sailing find a different company. read more

We traveled to the BVI for a two weeks sailing on a 40ft Cat and we were a group of 4 adults. The other couple have been using Moorings for over 10 years so they did all the planning for us. We landed at the BVI and custom.was very simple. Be prepared to pay $10 per person for an environmental fee. We were greeted by a shuttle service that was arranged by the moorings. On our way to the dock.. off the back the City is very dirty and run down. We understood that they went through some hard times due to the Hurricane in 2017 but pick up your trash!! We arrived to the dock and a lady greeted us and said. To proceed into the moorings area you have to pay $15.00 per person and I challenged her to explain what the fee is for and she said it is kinda of a tax. Really? The boat was nice and it had everything you needed for sailing. We did have some minor electrical issues but overall no complaints about the boat itself. However the staff that checked us in and did a walk through our boat just had such unfriendly demeanor and it just felt like we were a nuisance rather a guest. My boyfriend and I are into culinary and enjoy tasting local dishes around the world. Be prepared to have nothing other than pasta, bar food, and salads. Lobster is available but it will cost you about $30 per pound. If you are not cooking on board then the average price per meal per person will be $30.00 around the BVI. Beers and cocktails are average price. $5 per beer and $9 per cocktails with or without alcohol. 15% service charges are included in all checks. Snorkeling and diving was okay. Not much coral left. Overall the price for this trip was not worth it. The color of the water is amazing and great sailing but there is nothing tropical about this place. No trees, tons of bugs, and the prices are ridiculous. Take your business to the Mediterranean were you will have more of an adventure, culture, and history for less the money that you pay her read more

NEVER AGAIN!! We paid extra for the largest available power catamaran for our annual family vacation. We were delayed more than 24 hours because of a missing GPS data card. Seemed all of the boats were missing GPS datacards leading me to believe they were being stolen and sold. Boat was also delivered filthy... tons of cockroaches. Toilets didn't work. We escalated our concerns to management, they were very disinterested in helping us. Best they could do is offer $1,000 credit on our next reservation. This company used to be great but now they suck. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Booked a 7-day boat charter with the Moorings out of Tortola for New Years. Boat was not ready when we arrived. Wasted an entire day sitting in the marina. The boat was also infested with cockroaches. Moorings offered us a $1000 credit toward our next charter for a boat that cost over $2000 a day. We will never book with Moorings again. read more

We had a horrible experience with the Moorings in Abacos this year. So bad, that it has taken me a few months to be able to even write about it. We planned a bare boat charter with them about a year ago for our extended family. We chartered a large 50' catamaran, quite expensive, but we had a large crew to carry. We had family members from all over the country going to fly in and meet in Abacos to spend a week together sailing around the island. We were flying out on a Friday, embarking on Saturday. On Wednesday, we received an email from Moorings saying that the 50' cat we had reserved was unavailable. We were told specifically that it had sustained multiple damages that could not be repaired by the base in time for our charter. They located the only other boat around, from another organization, and they offered to reserve it for us. This was just a 3 cabin and could not accommodate all of us. So 3 days before our charter, 2 days before our flights, the Moorings notifies us that our boat is not available, and our only recourse is to eject several members of our family and take a smaller boat ? How horrible is that ? In the end, we didn't have to decide because a number of our flights got cancelled at the last minute and there was no way to even get to the island. But that's another story. It does get worse, though, because when a few remaining family members were able to get to the island, they did accept the other boat. While waiting in the Marina, they saw no 50' Moorings catamaran anywhere, and when asking various staff members in the marina about it, including the harbormaster, they were told repeatedly that no 50' catamaran had ever been seen there. So, I cannot guess what really happened on the Moorings side, but we were left with the impression that we chartered a boat that did not exist, and the Moorings waited until 3 days before our charter to tell us there was no boat, and when they did tell us, they were dishonest about it and said that it was damaged and under repair at the base. Accidents happen, I accept, but this was not an accident. They had to have known long before this that they would not have a boat for us, but they didn't bother to tell us until the last minute. This was such a horrible, and costly experience, that the family will probably never try a sailing trip together again. And we certainly will never be using the Moorings. Accidents can be forgiven, but being dishonest and uncaring for your customers will be long remembered. The Moorings may be the largest, but they are not the only. read more

What can i say, they are thieves. Be aware. I sailed on memorial day for a friends 40th birthday. We started sailing from Tortola. It was a group of 16 people and we hired two Boats. We spent approx $20K. On departing the boat, literally not even two hours morning, i realized that i had left my dress in the closet. I called the front desk to ask them to mail it to me to my home address. But alas they could not find the dress. It disappeared within two hours. A dress that i had rented from Rent the runway to wear at my friends 40th white birthday party in the BVI. One reaching out to corporate this is the message they sent me below. This is after spending $20K and one of their employees stealing my dress. Beware! I will also be reporting them to the better business bureau. Teach your employees not to steal guests items! NEVER will they get my business and will not be recommending them to anyone ***************** I do hope this message finds you well today. Please allow me to first apologize for the delay in our correspondence to you on this matter, however I must reassure you that our BVI team was diligently searching for the dress you had left behind following your charter aboard 'Changes in Latitude.' Regretfully, the team has remained unsuccessful in all their attempts since your departure. After review by management, I am authorized to provide you a good-will gesture refund of $40.00 USD, equivalent to your cost to rent the Tory Burch White Eyelet dress from Rent The Runway, and will not be in a position to meet the request made for full reimbursement of the retail value, listed on the website as $295.00 USD. In effort to reconcile this matter promptly, kindly provide your mailing address which I will post the refund check to via USPS once it has been processed by our Finance team. Informatively, at the time of booking our Vacation Planners offer trip insurance. Travel Guard, our insurance provider, offers trip insurance to cover incidences of this nature. Additionally, some major credit card companies offer trip insurance coverage as well and will cover similar situations. Should you wish, The Moorings does encourage you to reach out to either. Should you have additional questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to ask. Don't trust them! I booked a boat for Greece in November 2018 for July of 2019. We bought plane tickets and prepared. In March they called me to say the boat was now not available that week but could be available the week before. We are a working family so impossible to change the dates of the flights. They had no other options for boats. It is very obvious they got a better option and cancelled our family. We will not recommend this company to anyone read more
My family and I chartered a 40-ft sailboat from the Moorings out of their Road Town, Tortola, BVI location. In general, it was a good experience. There were a few hiccups as far as getting problems ironed out with the staff there, but I have a feeling it was more cultural differences than anything (don't expect anyone on the islands to have a sense of urgency about anything). There were a couple issues with our boat, the main being that one of the heads was finicky for the entire trip (and yes, we followed all the rules). They sent out a repairman, who replaced a valve, but we kept having problems. Rather than wait around for a repairman again, we just continued on and made sure they knew about it when we returned the boat. The wheel also made a horrible groaning noise that no amount of WD40 would fix, and it was pretty jarring to be sailing along and then hear "GREEEEAAARRRRRRK!" Provisioning was great, we had plenty of food for the trip. The yacht ownership program also seems like a great deal, and I'd be interested in it if I had the down payment for a boat. ;) All in all, I'd recommend The Moorings if you're looking to take a sailing trip somewhere and would rather have someone else handle all the boat maintenance and provisioning for you. read more

Do not charter from this Company as they have ZERO customer service. Let me explain. We booked a yacht in December 2013 for a 7 day charter in October 2014. I was recently planning the trip on their web site and saw that they were offering one night free with a 7 day charter. I called requesting a credit for the trip (trust me this is not chump change) and was told the offer was not available to booked charters! Are you kidding me? Someone booking at the last minute gets a better rate than someone who booked 10 months in advance. I would give them 0 stars if I could read more

My husband and I recently rented a 42.3 monohull in the BVI for a week. We were given the name of our boat at noon as promised the first day. We had a hard time finding someone to help us get our gear to the boat. The food that we ordered through Moorings did not arrive until around 1:30. There were several items missing which took us several hours to obtain. We requested with our charter a Friendly Skipper to sail with us for a brief period to review the operational aspects of the boat under different points of sail. Around 3:00 the "Friendly Skipper" showed up and verbally reviewed some of the boat's details while docked. He then excused himself and left. By the time we got the rest of our food it was almost 4:30 we wanted to take off so we could get to anchorage prior to sunset. We later discovered that we had just had a 15 to 20 minute cursory boat review and not the anticipated "Friendly Skipper" experience. The first night we realized that the sewerage on the boat had not been emptied prior to our boarding resulting in a foul order. 3 days into the sail the toilets were backed up. Moorings sent a crew to fix them. The cabins were very warm, beds uncomfortable and the ventilation poor. We were glad that there were only 2 of us on the boat. It would have been crowded with 4. The highlight of the trip was when we sheeted in the genoa while under sail, the genoa halyard failed causing the genoa to collapse into the water. With quick action and a struggle the genoa was pulled back onto the boat and secured. We then headed to the north shore of Tortola, so Moorings could replace the Halyard. The genoa halyard had splintered and the top of the mast was missing a part critical to its successful function. The repair crew was great, but it took 8 hour for them to obtain the parts and complete the repair. I spook to a Moorings Rep. by phone when we booked and asked if they had a boat with AC. He said they didn't. Later we found out they do. The rep. said there wasn't much difference in the newer and older boats...Hope this is incorrect. Renting with Moorings is not inexpensive and we expected a working boat and better service. The company has gone down big time over the years. read more

I have bareboat chartered several times out of Road Town, Tortola, BVI. I have always been happy with the boat and the service received once on the boat. I would actually rate this at 4.5 stars. However, the customer service I have received whenever I have called the moorings base has been atrocious. Staff has consistently been rude and poorly informed. I have been given misinformation several times and have been appalled with the lack of courtesy. I am writing this review in the hope that someone from Moorings will read this and address it. read more

My family recently chartered a 48' Catamaran in the British Virgin Islands and although we did have a lovely time, the problems we had with the boat were not only unexpected, but also unacceptable. At first glance when boarding the ship in Tortola, it looked amazing...extremely clean inside and out; all the linens were top quality. Our first negative encounter happen before we left the dock. The air conditioning blew which required a replacement compressor. Once underway several small incidents happened that should have been addressed long before anyone ever boarded the boat. Some of the electrical outlets did not work, the microwave oven not only tripped the breakers but then eventually blew up all together. Coffee filters that were provided did not fit the coffee maker that was in the galley; windows/portholes did not stay open; the sliding glass door came off the tracks. All of these were more of a nuisance and inconvenience, but the worst was when we lost an engine out in the middle of the sea. Although the Moorings did attempt to make repairs and restitution (minimally) our trip was still one to remember. If you do charter with The Moorings - and I do recommend that you do - make sure that EVERYTHING in the boat operates correctly and effectively before you leave the dock. Check your water levels, all electrics, make sure that the heads operate; check and then double check - then you can enjoy your cruise! read more

Worst vacation ever - even as a 4x repeat customer to Sunsail/Moorings. We arrived in Tortola after a 20 hour trip from Oregon with Daugher and 2 GrandSons at 8 PM only to be told that our charter had been cancelled by someone in Mooring HQ - Clearwater Florida. We were allowed a sleep aboard on a different boat. The next morning we were due to receive extensive (expensive) provisioning. The manager did find us a old Sunsail 46 that had just come from the Hurricane Hole with no cleaning or routine maintenance. It was not equipped. We cannabalized the overnight boat to equip the 46 but were still unable to get underway until 4 PM (so much for day 1). That night the generator failed to start and the freezer failed as well. At noon on day 2, Tech Support arrived at our location and replaced the freezer fuse (but not before all our frozen food for 2 weeks had thawed). Later that day they brought a different starter battery for the generator as we were on a different island (they did not explain why they didn't bring a battery on the initial service call). Later, we had problems sailing because the battens extended 4" beyond the pocket and would hang up on the lazy jacks. Also the main halyard was twisted at the mast top making it impossible to fully raise the mainsail. Other smaller issues occurred too, but this gives you an idea why we would never charter with Moorings/Sunsail again. read more
