This place is kind of gross. It's really smoky and the bathrooms are dirty. The bartender didn't make good drinks either.

The regulars really do know each other. We were here Thursday night and we were fortunate enough to have Sara as our server. She made sure that our food was accurate that we had water the whole evening and she had a sense of humor while doing it. What more could you want? As for the food, I stuck to my favorite burger, the French burger that served with mushrooms and blue cheese. I avoided the freshly cooked potato chips, the coleslaw, and the french fries and opted into a side salad. Sara made it very well. My wife had the pulled pork barbecue sandwich, and she enjoyed it. To conclude, real good food in a neighborhood pub with laughter and people enjoying each other in the background. We will most definitely be back.

The first time the waitress noticed he barely ate his dish and he explained that the coating on the fish and chips were too dark and not golden. Fish inside was not cooked all the way. She understood and she gave him a free drink chip. This time we came for lunch he ordered the fish and chips and again the oil is too dark. I ended up giving him half of my pulled pork sandwich, which was really good. But I have to admit my fries weren't that good because the oil needs to be changed!

So there we were. We…read morewanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. They truly deserve to be packed as they have the formula for success, great service, good food, and a clean environment..

And we brought some Bay Area friends with us. We also came in mid-week to avoid any crowd potential. Our evening began at the bar with a round of Picon Punch, the official drink of the State of Nevada. I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. JT Basque is family generation owned, and we certainly felt welcome and well taken care of. The rustic decor was also cool, as was the happy energy in the dining room. We promise to come back and not be strangers.

But, I'm SO glad we took the chance!! This is our FAVORITE restaurant in Gardnerville! The bar is historic and beautiful, but what really makes it is the friendliness of the staff, and the patrons. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, we had such a great time meeting some locals and noticing how genuinely happy and proud the staff are to work there. We were also surprised that there was NO WAIT for us to easy dinner on a Friday night! And the food? So freaking good! The shrimp scampi is divine, and the steak was 100% perfectly cooked both times we went. Excellent Basque dining experience with attentive staff in a unique spot. Do not pass this place up!!
