So there we were. We wanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. Stopped in our way down the 395 from Reno, and overall had a pleasant experience. We were able to sit outside with the dog on the small patio out back, which was very welcome as we were on our way to camp with the dog and couldn't leave her in the car on such a hot day. Bonus, we caught happy hour! Our server was helpful, clarifying some menu and general questions for us. We didn't realize that it was the same owners of Great Basin, but it was very reminiscent with pub fare, similar menu styles, and Great Basin beers on tap. We'd stop again, but wouldn't go out of our way since we have several Great Basin locations to choose from in Reno. read more

While the food was good it was not worth $27 for a sandwich and a side. The server never quoted the price of the special and when asked what side we wanted did not acknowledged that our choices were not included the special pricing. $70 including a tip was not worth what was served. Will remember in future, if we choose to return, to ASK for prices especially when not on the menu. read more

Came here for a Sunday lunch! We sat on the patio and the service was very attentive even though we were the only ones out there. I had a Moscow mule that was delicious, my boyfriend had a north coast brewing beer, and we split the fish tacos. The fries with this meal were DELICIOUS and some of the best ranch I've ever had. This place is becoming a favorite! The staff is always polite and professional. The restaurant is clean but can be loud depending on the time of day due to the way the building is designed. Tonight we attended the Minden Mills Whisky Paired Dinner. The food and drinks were delicious. Everything was cooked beautifully and seasoned perfectly. The sides for each dish were perfectly chosen to round out each dish. The drinks were balanced and complemented the dishes they were served with. I've been the the Overland Restaurant & Pub a couple times and it has not disappointed. Food selection is good and the food has always been great. You can sit inside or outside and on this last visit I was on a motorcycle ride and decided to stop in again and enjoy a lunch. The inside is very unique with plenty of seating and the staff are always great and accommodating. This is a great little gem that you enter on the back side of the building from the Main Street. read more

Best place in Gardnerville by far. The entire staff is fantastic but we love seeing Shannon and Allisha. The food is consistent and they have options for everyone. On top of it all they have a rewards program that actually gives you rewards. We were able to redeem our rewards points for an entire keg!! I'm a sucker for French onion soup at restaurants simply because it's the worst soup to make at home, so many tears. Also ordered the cheese curds and if you're from the Midwest, it is not what you are expecting but equally delicious. Habanero wings were delicious, as well as the onion rings. But the burgers were cold and missing flavor.

We stopped here for a birthday dinner. At the end of the meal they provided us with a free ice cream with a birthday candle for the birthday girl. Our party ordered the Basque Burger, Overland Dip, Chipotle Chicken Pasta, and Smoked St. Louis Ribs. I had the ribs, which were a letdown. They had a thick, jerky-like crust, and the meat was dry. No BBQ sauce was provided initially -- we had to ask for it -- and while it helped a bit, the dish still missed the mark. My wife ordered the Chipotle Chicken Pasta, and I tried a bite. The flavor and texture were not good, she ended up leaving most of it. We didn't take it home. Our kids had the Basque Burger and Overland Dip. I didn't hear any complaints from them, and the Overland Dip actually looked pretty appetizing. That said, with so many great dining options in the area, we'll likely look elsewhere next time. Hopefully, your visit is better than ours and you land on a dish that hits the spot. read more

Went back to Overland again. I knew we would. Place was busy as it was noon time when we went. Sat at a table in the back dining area which is nice and light with the huge windows. You can watch the world go by as you enjoy amazing food. We had a really sweet waitress. She stayed on top of everything.. Once again, those crispy shrimp. Got an extra side of the sauce as it's amazing on the shrimp. Tried the gnocchi with ox tail. That was so tasty. Had plenty left over for dinner as well. So many other things we want to go back to try, but we will always be getting those shrimp. They are so so delicious. Overland, keep doing what you do and you'll have customers for life. Only 15 miles from us and so worth the trip. read more

The Overland should change its name to Over-rated. We have given this pub several chances to get better, but no more. We ordered a salad, cup of soup and a sandwich. It took 1 hour to get our food! Our server told us later the kitchen was backed up. It was Friday night don't they plan for a crowd? There was plenty of wait staff, but we couldn't even get refills on water or drinks without flagging people down. We will not return. The Grill Next Door is a much better alternative! read more

Perfect Sunday Lunch Spot with Historic Charm We had a fantastic lunch at this charming farm-to-table restaurant housed in a beautifully preserved 1902 historic building. The space is thoughtfully laid out with several distinct dining rooms, a lively bar area, and a sunny outdoor patio that's perfect for soaking in the fresh air and small-town charm. We came in craving a good burger and a cold beer--and this place delivered! We ordered the 1902 Burger and the Elk Burger, both of which were juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. They add just the right amount of toppings to enhance (not overpower) the flavor of the meat. One thing I loved was the selection of sides--you can choose from about five different options. We went with the green salad and sweet potato fries, and both were excellent. Fresh ingredients and thoughtful presentation all the way. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon since we were out appliance shopping in Minden. We both had the burger which was great. My side was the French onion soup and my hubs ordered the garlic fries. This building is old and historic with some awesome art on the walls. The bartender Eric was a highlight. He gave us some local tips for butchers, cocktail recipes and all around a good guy. Unfortunately I am always disappointed when dining here. The staff are always really nice but the food is always horrible. With it being such a pricey place I would expect better food quality. This last time coming in I had a burger and it was so burnt that I couldn't taste anything else on it (you can kind of tell in the picture). I had come by here about 6 months ago but I was rushing and couldn't find the restaurant. I am happy I gave myself the opportunity to come back and find this place. First off, the staff is very welcoming, and helpful. They're so friendly. A+ for service! We were seated near a bulletin board that featured the special dishes available. I'm thinking they put on their seasonal items. I think I remember a wild boar sausage plate, a prime rib night, and maybe another plate with smoked meats. Even though I was looking for something on the lighter side that night, I was still looking for excuses to stop by some other time. Smoked meats and wild game is my thing!! I love that I've found another spot that offers this because so far, Himmel Haus, a German restaurant that's located by Heavenly ski resort is the only other place I know of that serves wild game sausage. If anyone that knows of other wild game meats places send me a message with your suggestions, thanks in advance! A golden beet salad is what caught my eye, it just sounded so good. The salad greens were tossed in a sweet vinegary dressing, not overwhelming at all. Not too much was done to the beets, I like that. They tasted roasted and they were not too soft. The salad was topped with a deep fried goat cheese medallion that just brought the salad flavors together. Even though the salad greens were slightly on the wilted side I did not mind this because of all the other great things that were going on. This salad totally hit the spot. I came here just a few minutes before 6 and Happy Hour ends at 6. I ordered a beer because I mean it was still Happy Hour... I just have to I also got some smoked sweet habanero wings off the Happy Hour small plate menu. There were 4 of them and they were tasty. I'll try to make it here around 5 pm next time to catch that last Happy Hour and taste the small plate items. I also want to check out their beer selection. The restaurant has a nice cool vibe; the decor is awesome. There are huge photo prints around the whole building walls. It's just a welcoming place. The overland is such a great restaurant! The building is so cute and historic, has a really nice vibe. The bathrooms are very nice, maybe the nicest ones I've seen in a restaurant. The patio is super comfortable and inviting. I came with my family and dog to enjoy some brunch. We ate out on the patio. We were immediately greeted and got a drink order in. Marshall was our server and he was extremely attentive, nice and funny during our dining. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was super tasty. The breakfast potatoes are actually more like fries which I wasn't expecting, but loved! My husband got the boss hog which is a next level biscuits and gravy. This dish comes with egg and meats. Both of our dishes were super tasty. Restaurant is great, ample parking. Everything was clean, food was great, service was spectacular. You can't go wrong! read more

Celebrated a couple of birthdays for lunch. A couple of us had fish tacos and they were delicious. You get 3 along with a side. My husband had a burger and fries (nice and hot and tasty), and our friend got the special which was a lobster grilled cheese sandwich with fries, and he said it was great!
