This is a very unique "place". It is a craft store, a jewelry store, a mercantile store, and of all things a very wonderful restaurant. Of all the times I have been here, none were disappointing. We had a huge party and since they don't take reservations, we had a long wait and ultimately had to split up. But I enjoyed shopping since there was such a variety of of Christmas items that you don't see most places. It has a rustic charm but the space is very tight and there are steps everywhere due to the different levels. Something to consider if there are mobility issues. It would be difficult for those with walkers or strollers. I got chicken salad which was bland, but everyone else enjoyed their food. Morgan House soup is good. Kudos to our server who was very patient and helpful with some of our demanding tablemates. read more

The Morgan House is one of those staple places that either your Grandma, or your Mom may very well like. Pick a door, any door, and I mean, there are multiple entrances to get in this place, and wade around in Chinese manufactured country time crafts as you walk around aimlessly wondering where's the food? Keep walking, you'll find the small hostess stand, which will take your name, because it's nearly impossible to get a seat in here from Oct till after Christmas unless you come when they open the doors. The original Morgan House has been renovated, and added on to reflect a colonial McMansion, and it's all filled with overpriced knick knacks, jewelry, home decor, and yes, as another put it, Vera Bradley purses. Come winter this place is crazy. So crazy that you'll often find yourself stuck in between two old people gawking at merchandise, and it's too narrow to pass around either, so you're the fillings of an old person sandwich. ( not too sexy) Yeah, I may be coming off harsh with this review, but as your can see my rating speaks otherwise, and that's simply because of the simplicity of their food, and menu. They make this chicken pot pie in a Terra cotta pot, which is yeah, cool. I get it, impress the impressionable but it's also damned delicious. The crust is perfectly flaky, and the contents are spot on to what you dreamt a pot pie should be. Usually this is served with a side of chips, or greens, or fruit. Take a peek at the menu if you have some time to spare, and it's as delicious as it sounds. It's just all around freshness, like the feeling of a bountiful harvest you're partaking of. read more

I have yet to eat here but the shopping will pretty much blow your mind... stuff EVERYWHERE! Go there and experience for yourself. The place is huuuge, like 4 or 5 levels of jammed packed stuff. The Morgan House is such a hidden gem! I had a voucher to purchase a Restaurant.com gift card, so after looking at some reviews of this place, I decided to use it here. I brought my parents here on a Sunday for lunch as it sounded like a place my mom would enjoy. We entered and were seated immediately in the smaller of the dining rooms. It was really cute and maintained most of the original cabin. We were given really tasty cranberry muffins upon being seated. I ordered the open face club sandwich. Though I'm not usually a huge fan of open faced sandwiches, this thing was GOOD. I swear there was some kind of crack in the cheese. Portions were perfect and the food was reasonably priced. Looking around the room, most of the people there were middle-aged women. No biggie, but this place definitely has a typical demographic. After lunch, we wandered around the shop. This place is amazingly big! There are seriously like a dozen different rooms to look in, each having a different theme. There were so many cool things to look at. My biggest con is that the place is difficult to maneuver. It's seriously a maze and definitely not handicap accessible. I didn't end up buying anything, but now I know a place to find some unique items. I'll be back for the food, if nothing else. read more

A friend and I dropped in here on a Sunday for lunch. We hadn't seen each other in a few months and had a -lot- of catching up to do. The place was already crowded by noon, but we managed to get a seat in the tea room which was pretty empty. The table itself was small and low - hard to get my knees under though I'm not that tall - and my chair was literally on top of an air vent so it was very cold. It wasn't a problem since my purse completely covered the grate, but it seems a bit of an odd set up in the first place. Anyways, we were prepared to enjoy some good food and gossip and were doing so until about half way through the meal when they began to rearrange the entire place. I totally understood the reason - a memorial for a woman who used to be a frequent guest - and I thought it was awesome. However, I got a definite feeling dessert wasn't really an option (I had planned to get some pie), and we did have to leave as soon as we had paid the bill. The people working there were very nice about it all, of course, and I definitely understand the reason.... however, I rather wish someone had warned us when we came in. We might have opted to wait for a seat in the dining room if it meant we could have had more time to chat... and also less racket from the tables being moved around. As it was, we ended up going elsewhere for dessert and some more time to talk. Certainly there would have been plenty to do while waiting - there's a very large gift shop with some interesting items. A lot of it is the country kitsch you find at a lot of places, but there are some really nice items of jewelry, local crafts, and even some unique clothing and furniture. Anyways, the food itself was pretty good, at least. I was very torn by the soup selection - there were three that I normally adore. The waitress was kind enough to let me sample the African peanut, which was good, but I ultimately went with the Morgan House soup. ...also very good... but to be honest I thought both soups could have used a little more zing. The Morgan House Soup in particular has a nice flavor and great texture, but the sherry taste is a bit strong and heavy. I expected something a little more like the chicken curry soup at the Buxton Inn, which has a similar texture but the flavor is broken up with grapes which give it a refreshing lightness.... Still, very good soup and worth trying. For a main course, I opted for the baked roast beef sandwich, which really was delicious. And large. For about $10 you get good serving of thick slices of juicy roast beef on a flaky croissant that is covered in cheese. The cheese is melted and blends into the bread, making it that much richer and gooier. The plate comes with one side - chips, fruit, or salad. I opted for the salad which was large, fresh, and pretty tasty. My companion meanwhile had a strawberry orange salad which was decent in size and which she said was also quite good. The meal was served with a little corn muffin for each person. These things were great - super soft and sweet, they melted in the mouth. Prices are around $7 to $10, which isn't bad considering the portion size and general quality of the ingredients. Service is fine too, and refills are quick in coming. Anyways, I do think it's worth a visit. But maybe check to make sure there aren't any special events going on in the next few hours... Oh, and by the way - the main door at the front of the building is the one that has "hours" written on it. Lots of people kept trying to get in through a second, more obvious door, covered in Halloween decorations that originally led onto the tea room where we were sitting. Visited The Morgan House today with a good friend who used to come here often with her mother. Gift shop is wonderful. Meal was VERY disappointing. Both of us had soup (corn chowder), which did not taste right, and had the consistency of thick chunky pudding. A pile of glop. We mentioned to waitress how bad it was, and switched it for their house chicken soup. Chicken soup same thing.......consistency of thick chunky pudding. Thick goo is not considered soup in our neck of the woods. We could have cut both soups in sections with a knife it was so thick. I mean really......who would serve that - let alone allow it to leave the kitchen? End of meal waitress retrieved our uneaten chicken soup as we told her it was no better. She mentioned that some people don't like curry...?????? Didn't offer to refund the uneaten soup - even though we told her it was awful and we didn't eat but a bite of each. Such indifference.................The rest of our meal was just ok.....friend mentioned her Reuben was disappointing. My chicken salad sandwich was very small. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my mom. It wasn't crowded at all. The shopping area was almost overwhelming. It really couldn't hurt them to scale back a bit. My senses were assaulted by what seemed to be the contents of every rich middle aged woman's dream shop. The food was pretty good! I had the baked roast beef sandwich and it was heaven in a croissant. So flaky and delicious. The horseradish sauce added the perfect kick. The potato chive soup was rich and a had great flavor. It might be a soup more fitted for a cold day though. Their coffee of the day was Heath flavor and it was yum. The waitress kept coming over to refill our cups. This place should ID you at the door and not let you in unless you are female and 55 or over. As my mom remarked as we were leaving, the place is filled with dried up estrogen. At this time of year, this place is DECKED OUT like no other in Christmas garb. Like as in how do they pass fire department inspections? Seriously jam packed with not much room to maneuver. You are constantly in the predicament of "I feel like I am in someone's way" and that is because you are. While there is some pretty nice and tasteful décor, there's also a lot of crap (i.e. Vera Bradley, gag me). The better décor is on the "main floor" (even though you go up a couple of steps) towards the back to the right of the hideous clothing section (I am always this thorough in my directions). Also, I am baffled at how this place is not whatsoever handicap or elderly friendly considering that is 95% of their clientele. The brick pavers in the entry area are very loose and pretty disconcerting even for my young body - guess it's the lawyer in me. This place also has a restaurant. This was the main reason why my mom brought me here - it was a place her mother (my grandmother) supposedly loved to go to and I think holds some sentimental value for my mother. Anyways, lunch here is a DISASTER. If you don't get here before 11AM GAME OVER. You will wait at least 1 hour for a table. And for some God forsaken reason - EVERYONE AGREES TO WAIT. I guess it's because they decide to shop/browse, duh. You would think they would offer plentiful sitting/waiting room but nope; one tiny bench that holds 2 geriatric women. Seriously I was feeling really bad for all these women standing on their brittle bones. Also, no railings for customers to get down the stairs into one of the dining areas (ummm again the average age here is 75). Turnover time of tables is excruciatingly long. Even once the previous guests are gone, it takes forever to be cleared and reset. There are no busboys or dedicated table clearing and setting people. The hosts and waitresses are all constantly scrambling doing a job that could be given to at least 2 busboys(girls) (job creation here, people!). ANYWAYS. I guess I should give a food critique too. Food options and the food itself are decent-ish. I got the special that day which was chicken salad on a croissant that was topped w/ tomato, cheddar cheese and this weird raspberry sauce that was baked open faced. I also got the fruit side in lieu of chips. I should have just stuck to ordering the regular chicken salad sammie on a croissant or their version of a "pick two" option. Cheddar, while I love, I discovered was the wrong kind of cheese for chicken salad. Cheddar is great for tuna melts. Provolone, swiss or heck even muenster would have been more appropriate. I was looking forward to the raspberry sauce; it was what intrigued me to order this special in the first place. However, it sadly tasted more like slightly flavored raspberry barbeque sauce. Ick. The flavors were just all sorts of off for this dish, which ran, I believe, $10.49 (they may have charged more for my fruit side but they don't itemize your receipt, naughty naughty business practice). I ate the whole thing anyways because I was famished after our hour wait (mind you we arrived at 11:15AM and put our name in, so I am not kidding when I say get here by 11!). My mom got the quiche, which she said was just okay, but she too ate it all because she was famished as well. We were seated in the larger dining area in the back (not the dining area where the hostess is) and I couldn't believe how loud it was. Again, how are these elderly women supposed to be able to converse w/ one another? My mom and I both wished they served alcohol here because we both needed it once we were seated. Also, the parking situation kind of blows - there's no designated parking lines, which you can imagine causes all sort of parking mishaps and frustrations. read more

Good food, fine shopping, but the other reviewers are right: if you come during the "high season" (Halloween through Christmas) it's ridiculously crowded and the lunch wait can feel interminable. And a word of warning: Please do NOT think this is a place for young children. There is NO room for strollers, and barely enough room to walk! I see women every time I'm in The Morgan House who "lead" with a stroller or a Baby Bjorn in order to push their way through the crowd and the narrow passageways. Don't be that person. Really. Get a sitter. My favorite thing about The Morgan House is its servers and staff members. I went recently on a weekday afternoon to meet a friend for a late lunch (weekday + afternoon + summertime = no wait). We both enjoyed our sandwiches and split a delicious dessert (lemon layer pie-- smooth, tart lemon filling, a layer of cream cheese, and a layer of whipped cream on top). My friend stayed to do a little extra shopping, but I decided I was going to leave... until my car refused to start. Now, the parking lot at the Morgan House can be extremely crowded and difficult to navigate, and I'd pulled my car as far into the space as I could, right up to a HUGE lilac bush. I went back inside to the first register I could find and told the lady what was happening. (I'm the idiot without a AAA membership, in case you were wondering.) She immediately got on the phone and called a young man named Travis up to her desk, and when he found out what was going on, he pulled his truck and jumper cables around and jumped my battery for me. They were all so solicitous and helpful, without treating me like, well, the idiot without a AAA membership. Even though this was a big deal to me, they acted like it was nothing beyond what they SHOULD do for customers. I'm so appreciative to them for their help and their terrific attitudes. This wonderful old multi-level building has an ever-changing selection of wonderful gift items. We make it a point to stop every time we are in Columbus-- it's an easy drive to the west. The setting is beautiful, surrounded by big old trees and lush perennial plantings. There is even a tea room, with terrific light meals offered for a portion of the day. They have a furniture gallery, lots of gift areas, and a specialty foods room where the delicious aromas of flavored coffees greet you. (If you can leave without buying something in there, you must have just overeaten somewhere!) read more

I took my dad here for his 74th birthday on Thursday afternoon. We had a nice meal and a lovely time. I had coffee, the quiche and fruit platter, he had a special chicken croissant sandwich w/chips, we both had the Morgan house soup, and split a raspberry/apple cobbler. All was very good. I had a coupon from Restaurants.com, but with that and gratuity, the bill came to $32. They are not for the low of budget. I had budgeted for about $30 and I like to take my father where he wants to go, and let him get what he wants to eat. We sat in a little dinning room that looked like the inside of a log cabin. Then we looked around the store a bit before leaving. I got a gift for a friend, and candy for my dad. It is very nice and would not mind riding out there again. read more

Such a cute little place! Make sure you leave yourself lots of time to check the place out...there are a few floors, a bunch of different sections and a lot of things to see! We recently went and bought 2 ornaments for our Christmas tree and were able to get them personalized for free which was a lot of fun. If you plan on eating here, be sure to put in your name before you look around and plan on it being a lot longer wait than they tell you it's going to be. We ended up leaving after we were told it'd be a 45 minute wait and waited over an hour and 30 minutes. The food smelled great we just couldn't wait any longer. Fabulous place for gifts -- and strangely sprinkles! They have the best selection of cake, cookie and cupcake sprinkles. Their food area is just adorable. Needs improvement, not on the food but store layout for busy days when you wait an hour and a half for seating. To stand that long even if shopping gets tiring and I had my 86 year old mother with me. Steps in and out are not friendly to older customers. (I'll not bring her again.) There is a wheelchair ramp, however. Additionally, at the entrance and "waiting area", we were trying to not trip over the merchandise displays and bump into other people coming and going and being seated. If display areas near the front door would have been thinned it would provide a nice place for more seating for a long list of waiting customers. I'll only go on weekdays now (no holidays, we were there on Nov 11). My advice, don't be on a schedule on the day you visit. read more

The Morgan House is one of my favorite places. The ambiance of the restaurant is comfortable and homey. It's not loud. I recommend getting a seat near the fireplace in the winter. The food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. Unlike some of the "hip" places in Central Ohio, the Morgan House focuses on providing tasty classics and doesn't slather them with aioli or weird, syrupy reductions. There are a lot of good choices on the menu. Try the coffee. It's wonderful. Extra can be purchased in the wonderful gift shop attached to the restaurant. Take some time to go through there to get some unique gift items. It's a great place to get together with friends for an enjoyable brunch. I do have one word of warning. The restaurant doesn't open until noon on the weekends and there will likely be a line. It would be nice if the restaurant would open earlier to accommodate the rush. Plan accordingly. read more

I'd love to review the food, but I can't, as we never got inside the restaurant. We arrived at about 11:45 am for lunch this past Monday, and submitted our name for the waiting list, and we're told by the hostess it would be about 20 minutes. After 40 minutes, we checked with the hostess and were told, "It's almost ready". We went into the gift shop area and watched 2 parties walk in the door, speak to the hostess and get seated immediately. A few minutes later, we checked again, and got the same response from the hostess. We sat at a nearby bench, and watched another group walk in the door and be seated immediately (the restaurant does not take reservations). we then decided to leave and told the employee closest to the door why, and she told us she was wondering what was up and had seen Kushan waiting for a long time. she said she would make the manager aware of our situation. Once home, I decided to call and speak to the manager myself, and spoke to a male on the phone, after explaining I wished to talk to the manager about an unpleasant experience, the man said how can I help you? I told my story, assuming it was the manager, and when I was done, he told me he was the sous chef, and apologized, but defended the hostess,citing a busy day...we were the only ones waiting just before we left. He took my name and phone number and said that I would get a call the next day from the executive chef or the manager. I am still waiting for the call, and do not expect it will come. We will never go back, and a fairly simple situation was ignored and cost them at least two customers. read more

A few members of my family-the ladies of course-recommended we go on a trip to the Morgan House last year. We congregated in Columbus ( most are from Cleveland) , and went on a Saturday in December. We reserved a table for about 12, and they sat us in the fireplace room. Loved the Old Williamsburg ambiance! We did a Xmas exchange and there was plenty of room to move around. One suggestion-the menu could use a few more items , but good! Afterwards we went shopping-TONS OF STUFF! Small aisle ways and different levels, so any wheelchairs or baby strollers are very hard to maneuver( so I agree - keep the kids at home)! There was so much, we went our own ways for a time and hardly ran into each other. Ladies-check out the LOVE cologne! YOUR MAN WILL LOVE IT! I plan to get some next trip! This place is not just for us 55 and over-- the younger set will like it for Xmas gift shopping - all in one place! I like it because I love going into smaller shops with unique items. read more
