This is a great find and was a good lunchtime option for my birthday lunch. The decor is quirky but the food more than made up for it!

My favourite place to eat in Crouch End, if I can get a table that is!…read more I'm a big fan of their version of jerk chicken! It was a slight bastardisation of what I'm used to, but even though it's not quite authentic, it was bloody lovely! The addition of a pot of peanut sauce is GENIUS! I opted for a coke float, although I was hoping for a can of Ting or some Bigga Grape, but meh, the coke float was pretty great too! Mrs D had a fry-up which looked great, but couldn't compete with my chicken. It's not a cheap meal out, and some of the staff seem to cope with the constant throng of customers better than others, but I love it here anyway, and I'll definitely be back.

I went travelling for 7 months in between now and then and can sincerely say their food is the stuff you dream about when you're stuck in the middle of a strange country without your home comforts. It was also one of my first stops upon returning to London. My only slight criticism is the amount of time you sometimes wait to be served and perhaps certain staff could be slightly more friendly, but it is a minor flaw in an otherwise great restaurant. I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich, jerk chicken salad and jerk pork chop which is often on special. If you're not a fan of 'the jerk' don't worry, you can't go far wrong with any of the dishes really. And the prices are very reasonable. And as a quick aside I have dined on a table next to Simon Pegg, held the door open for Victoria Wood as she was leaving and there's a plaque claiming Bob Dylan was there in 1993. If it's good enough for them...

Heirloom focuses its USP on being a British restaurant with British food and goods. From the beef and pork to the ales from across England. In this instance I went for the beer from Bristol whilst the others went for the Camden Pale Ale. A good visit and a return will be coming. One reason why my initial visit took a while and why my return will also be slightly delayed is because of the cost. It is not overly expensive or not worth it, but it is a pricey meal. £60 for two doesn't sound too bad, but for some reason, as a local food venue, I expect less. Strange logic.

Heard a lot of good things about this place. From friends and many reviews, not just blogs but also…read morefrom broadsheet reviews who are impressed. Seeing as this was virtually a local I try to make time one lazy Sunday. For my visit I decided to test their Sunday roasts. I heard this was good and though there is a choice of Pork, Lamb, Chicken and Beef, knew from research that Beef and Lamb were very popular. It also meant booking early for the Sunday so nothing ran out with our choice. Coming in before 1pm (post New Years) it was relatively empty. I was actually surprised how big the place was. I knew it would fill up later, but I like when it's not too crowded so the kitchen can pay attention to our order without rushing. Knowing exactly what we wanted we ordered the Lamb and Beef roasts. They came within 10-15mins. Again I was surprised... The portions were pretty generous which was good. The beef was nicely medium rare (even though they said rare). Still I liked the way it was cooked and was tender. With my beef (40 day age beef rump). I loved the fact the carrot came as one huge piece. Nicely cooked. As too the cabbage bedding the meat. Parsnips and roast potatoes were OK. Think potatoes could have done with some pre seasoning, or glazed in butter or Rosemary. The Windsor Pork Belly I tried was excellent. I must admit lamb is my favourite meat. Always get a bit of mustard and of course mint sauce on the side. Someone will gladly come and serve some when you start which is nice. It was very tender. Same sides as beef. My gravy was running out so I asked for a bit more gravy and they were happy to oblige, coming back with a fresh pot of gravy for my my beef (they asked specifically which roast I had presumably to get the right type of stock gravy to go with it). Service was so so. They perked up with a smile by the end. I really liked the setting, decor and vibe of the place and by 2pm it was getting more full. Will hopefully come back to try a 3 course special or tasting, at night to sample ambiance. Another thing I want to try is the sherry of Manzanilla which I heard is very good. Good addition to area, especially on a street which is now seeing more eateries finally.

Oh yeah! Americans…read morefrom California here. Who would've known that mashed potatoes, sausages, and gravy would go so well together! Loved every bite. Got the gravy on the side, didn't think I'd use all of it, before I knew it, it was all gone. And you wouldn't think that the type of mash or type of gravy or type of sausage would matter that much, but they really do all have distinct flavors! I will be mixing mustard into my mashed potatoes from now on. Originally came for the sticky toffee pudding, so of course we ended with that. Marvelous! The toffee sauce is so comforting and rich, the cake was so moist, and it was perfectly balanced with the ice cream. Didn't detect any dates, maybe they were too finely chopped. Also the apple and blackberry crumble just didn't hit the same; it was slightly dry and on the sour side (maybe don't take a bite directly after the pudding!) Service was so helpful and friendly; I'm sure they love watching people fall in love with their food. Quick with refills and offered extra condiments if needed. Great air conditioning as well (always a plus), and I loved the green blacksplash and blackboard caligraphy on the walls as well. Bangin'

Ultimate London comfort food!…read more On a Saturday night around 7:30PM, the wait for a party of five was 45 minutes. The food was well worth the wait. The Steak and Blackheart Stout Pie was delicious. The steak was tender and the mash was smooth. Definitely get the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The pudding was sweet, soft, and warm, pairing perfectly with the silky pudding and cold vanilla ice cream.

We are staying here at the counting house, but this review is about our dinner…read more We had dinner at the counting house for the last night of our London leg of our trip. I just have to say in general, everyone at this hotel and pub are just extraordinarily friendly and helpful. I'm not that familiar with pub culture and apparently the way it works is that you have to go up to the bar to order your food. I asked the hostess about it and she said that if we want a waitress there is an added service charge. We were on three walking tours that day and we're exhausted so I didn't care about paying the service charge. We started off with Yorkshire, puddings and gravy. I'm from the US. I don't usually get to have a Yorkshire pudding so I wanted to try it. It's kind of like a popover with gravy. The Yorkshire pudding was okay but the gravy was delicious. I saved the gravy and used it for the next part of my meal. We both had fish and chips. Unlike the US when I ask for malt vinegar, they know what it was and had it right away. I can't tell you how often in the US I'm giving red vinegar. The the fish and chips were spectacular. The fish was crispy even after sprinkling on the vinegar. The fries were very nice. Not as good as blacklock but very nice. And I am fry snob. My wife ordered sticky toffee pudding for dessert. I couldn't even finish my fries, so I passed. Overall a very nice meal and perfect for us as we were exhausted from walking all day and only had to go upstairs to our room afterwards.

Its definitely worth making a reservation in advance as space upstairs for tables of more than 2 is limited.
