I had a great experience at the Mosser. The staff was friendly, helpful, and quick to respond whenever I needed anything. The rooms are a bit dated, but they were clean and the beds were comfortable, which is what mattered most. The location was excellent and felt safe for the most part. It's conveniently located near Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Ross, a movie theater, parks, plenty of restaurants and eateries, public transportation, and bus stops, making it easy to get around and enjoy the city without needing a car. One thing that really stood out was the customer service. The staff even called a taxi for me to the airport, which cost about $50-$55, compared to the $75-$100 Uber and Lyft prices I was seeing at the time. They also helped load my bags, which I greatly appreciated. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with a reasonable price, a fantastic location, excellent customer service, and comfortable, clean accommodations. This place is solid. It is clean but definitely an older building. I was a little disappointed by the fact that there was still carpet everywhere and it smelled very musty because it does not have an air conditioning system. I will say that I visited in February so the weather was very nice. I didn't need the air conditioning but I did have to crack a window to allow for some airflow and put the fan on. Otherwise it was a pretty solid stay and it was the cheapest hotel in the area close to the conference center. And the difference was substantial. I really liked that it's close by to a Trader Joe's and honestly very walkable. It is also right around the corner from the subway/rail system so that was very convenient. Overall would stay again if I was on a tight budget but would prefer to try to find a more updated hotel. read more

The lack of customer service at The Mosser Hotel is truly appalling. I have severe asthma and was wrongly accused of smoking cigarettes in my room. This accusation was not only inaccurate, but deeply upsetting and handled with zero professionalism or care. Instead of approaching the situation with basic courtesy or asking clarifying questions, staff jumped straight to assumptions. For someone with a documented medical condition, this was both offensive and stressful. I expect far better from a hotel--especially one that positions itself as reputable. Customer service should be rooted in respect and communication, neither of which were present. here. I would not recommend staying at The Mosser Hotel based on this experience. read more

We stayed here for one night to watch a basketball game at the Chad Center. The entire hotel was very modern and clean. The staff were extremely kind, friendly, and welcoming! We also had an amazing view and the room was a very reasonable price. I didn't care for the brand /smell. Suggest you bring your own. Ice is available on floors 2 & 5 - get ice bucket from front desk Coffee & tea available in lobby. Coffee is not good. I already left a very detailed message about my stay with the hotel itself so I will keep it extremely brief here. This was a business stay as our organization was traveling in for conferences at the nearby Moscone center and surrounding areas. I've traveled many times for work and for leisure, so I do not make the statement lightly or without many experiences world wide. This was the most impactful and memorable customer service and hospitality interaction I've had and not in a positive or encouraging way. It was a thorough disappointment and it wasn't the staff. It was from two different managers on separate days and separate occasions. The resounding impact on our company of business travelers was that this was the very first and last time we would patronize this establishment. The facility itself could use refreshing and updating but the leadership here, at least the 2 individuals/managers we encountered, couldn't have possible been the representation that ownership expects to greet and engage new clients. The price was good and the Mosser met - or exceeded - my expectations. The location was great for me - close to BART and close to the places I needed to go. There are plenty of food options nearby, and a Trader Joe's a few doors down. The bed was comfortable. The size of the room was fine. The clerks at the front desk were professional and friendly enough, and the building is old and has a faded charm. Were there any negatives? Sure. The walls were a little thin - at some point, someone slammed a door, which I could hear. And a couple times during the night, I could hear the person in the room above me stomping around loudly. Also at some point in the middle of the night, there was a loud crash on the street - some sort of car accident maybe - but the hotel is in the middle of the city, so city noises should be expected. The shower pressure was pretty weak. The room was clean, but it could probably be cleaner. The blinds didn't do a great job of blocking out the morning light. On the other hand, the room got good light. The glass shelf over the sink is a menace. Its presence makes it difficult and slightly dangerous to rinse after brushing your teeth. (I hit my head on the shelf, but not hard enough to do any damage.) Would I stay here again? Yes. If I needed to be in this area and if the price was right. read more

I wish I could leave 0 stars! This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! I would have stayed in a card board box on the sidewalk instead! The was old poop stains on the toilet from the previous guess! It looked like a college dorm room. The hot water didn't work in the morning the first night. I got there very late Friday. And Saturday night/Sunday morning. The heater which looked like a radiator that was never touched stated to sound like it was going to blow up and began to leak all night. Really not much to complain about, excellent location. It is an older property not a luxurious one but clean and comfortable. The rooms are small but they have everything you need. The bed was great. The shower worked well and the TV was one of the better TVs I've had in hotels good selection of channels. The only downside is there's no microwave or fridge in the room but for one or two nights this is a perfectly good place, especially for the reasonable rates that they charge and the front desk Staff is very accommodating and pleasant. Definitely budget, but great location and that counts for a lot - you don't go to San Francisco to hang out in your hotel room, right - with lots of essential stuff in a one block radius. Dropped a star for no AC, and heat is traditional hot steam radiator, does ok but not modern climate control. Bathroom mirror is useless if you're under 5'7". Other stuff: Bed is firm and comfortable, lots of good pillows; iron and ironing board in the closet; great water pressure, good hot water. Get a #19 room to be on the corner! I had to book for a night due to working a clopening shift in the city. I went with the deluxe room and it was a lot smaller than I expected. The sink was in the corner of the bedroom instead of the bathroom which is a bit peculiar. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable, the TV had some decent channels, basic toiletries, an alarm clock, towels, bathrobes, an iron/ironing board, a ceiling fan, and some hangars for pre-planned outfits. The "Deluxe Room" might be a bit of an overstatement. The room was TINY with the sink located in the corner. The shower itself was small, and could be considered a bit claustrophobic for some. And the overall cleanliness of the room was sorta questionable. There was a good amount of glitter between the bed frame and the mattress and there was some (nose?) hair clippings near the sink that kind of grossed me out. I read that some people posted about there being juice and muffins in the lobby area, but I didn't see anything. Also, this is completely my fault for not researching this place, but there is no AC! FYI, about a 20 minute walk from the Cal Train station. read more

The Mosser is one of those hidden gems that locals and those traveling abroad and visit appreciate greatly. Albeit not comparable to your Four Seasons hotel, The Marriott across the street or the Hotel Nikko, what it is, is a comfortable, clean, quaint hotel offering some very inexpensive rates considering it's prime location, alone. Additionally though, the guest rooms are intimate, charming and understated offering guest rooms-with and without private bath. Renovated several years ago, it's being maintained well. There used to be a great restaurant and bar called Annabelle's Bar & Bistro, it was so good! After several years their was a refresh and renamed the bistro, The Keystone. it was crowded, often, especially during happy hour over the Annabel's era. Then the refreshed Keystone was closed during pandemic and has remained closed as of late. Hopefully it will come back soon, great food and a nice wine list, offering some of Napa and Sonomas best variants and included other creative libations, makes a stay here at the Mosser, even that much more special. Location, location, location... doesn't cover all sins. We stayed here because of its proximity to the Moscone Center, but it was not good. I don't mind that the rooms are small, the walls are paper thin, or the elevator is slow - I understand the hazards of boutique hotels in San Francisco. We got two rooms and they both were full of mold and mildew. The sinks being in the room (over carpet) instead of the bathroom is not the only cause of this problem, because there is mold in the showers as well. Definitely avoid if you have a mold allergy, or a sense of smell. read more

The Mosser is a mid-tier, no-frills hotel in a good location. I would recommend this hotel but only with caveats. Location: Excellent location in a decent area, especially if you're going to an event at the Moscone Center. About a 3-7 minute walk from Moscone. Also just a couple minute from Trader Joe's and Target, so you can buy meals and snacks instead of relying on overpriced convention food. Just a couple minutes from BART and right next to lots of bus lines. Staff: Very kind and accommodating. No complaints here. Amenities: Limited, which is not necessarily a bad thing depending on what you're looking for. Rooms are compact. No fridge in room, but there are an iron and ironing board. Bathroom sink is very small. Coffee and tea are provided in the morning. Overall I liked the balance of amenities - just right, no fuss, efficient. Rooms need more outlets. My room did not have nightstand outlets. I had to plug my phone charger in behind the headrest. Not a dealbreaker, but a small annoyance among many. Tissue paper was 1-ply. This is probably not the hotel's fault and rather due to old plumbing. Ambience: This is one of the things I disliked about the Mosser. The lobby and stairways are actually quite lovely in terms of architecture, but they desperately need updating. Carpets are shabby and the entire place feels dingy. Furniture in rooms doesn't seem to have a cohesive design; it's functional, but feels old and worn. The bedside reading lights are dim. The overhead fan/light switch wall panel is old and the labels were rubbed off. The tub had various cracks and scratches. These small touches seem insignificant individually, but they add up to create a depressing feel. Noise: An issue, enough to bother me. Room walls are very thin and I could clearly hear the couple next door having what seemed like a totally normal conversation. People in the hallway sounded so clear, it was like they were in the room. It's also in a bustling part of town, so you will hear street noise, buskers, etc. Cleanliness: My #1 contention. This entire hotel feels like it needs a deep clean. I felt I could not trust the cleanliness of any surface here. Carpets are dingy and need shampooing. The radiator in the room was caked in grime. Little remnants of the previous guest weren't cleaned - a shaver cover in the bathroom, a hair in the tub. Not enough to complain to the front desk, but enough to make things uncomfortable. The chairs downstairs in the louge/morning coffee room all had bits of debris on them, even first thing in the morning. Little corners in the room and bathroom, the area around light fixtures, etc had bits of dark grime. Bathroom shelving had smudges and dust. The bed was clean, though. Parking: I did not park here (why would you?). Overall, I had a decent stay here, but it did not meet my expectations for cleanliness. This, combined with the ambience, made me feel it was overpriced. The location was excellent, though. I had a Wonderful Stay at this hotel. It is right near Market St. in the central main core in downtown. It's in the center of it all. My room was the Deluxe Queen Room which has a private bath on the 3rd floor. Public washrooms or shared was on the 2nd floor had separated from males and females. The hotel was quiet well my floor at least. I did see a lot of ppl check in and out on weekends. The hotel main entrance has a security feature where it is locked at all times you need to tap key card for entry or ring door bell. The staff here was excellent service. This cute Victorian was a really nice comfortable stay. Parking isn't ideal, you have to pay for over night parking at the garage next door and the guy running it wasn't professional. Made the start of the stay a little sketchy. But the woman at front concierge was so nice and helpful! The room was very clean but small. And the shower was tiny I felt claustrophobic. My check-in experience was super strange. The lady at the counter told me to wait because they were changing shifts or something, but then I didn't see anyone change. She asked me to sit on the bench near the counter, which I did, and I waited for about five minutes before she told me she could help me. I was really confused by all of this. I was given a key and then I headed up the elevators, and the room I had was really small. It had a bed and a bathroom, but the sink wasn't inside the bathroom; it was in the main part of the room where the bed was and in the corner. Stayed here on a rainy Thursday night in October, after the summer vacation crowds had mostly taken off. We're East Bay locals, but haven't stayed in the city very often - looking for a place near SOMA, we were a little blown away with how expensive and/or crappy many of the hotels in the area are. The Mosser seemed like a safe choice, and it's one I would definitely make in the future! If you're used to staying at the Marriott or renting penthouse suites in Vegas, the size of the rooms are going to come as a bit of a shock. If you've stayed in hotels in Times Square, you probably get the idea. Itsy-bitsy dollhouse spaces that easily compete with the concept rooms at IKEA. What I'll say about The Mosser is that they're making fantastic use of these very-little spaces. The 2 of us were very comfortable and were able to iron our clothes, watch TV, hop on wi-fi, hang up our stuff, etc. They've tucked all the creature comforts you'd need into every nook and cranny of the place, and the room was very, very *clean*. I don't know about prior reviews bemoaning bedbugs, but it looked like our mattress and bedding was brand new. Carpets were pristine. There's a storage drawer under the bed, and they even have robes hanging in the bathroom. Double-double-paned windows (that's right, 2 sets of em') keep out all of the ambient city noise so you can get some sleep. Some early-risers made some noise stomping around in the morning, and the one elevator is always on the floor you aren't, but the coffee and muffins in the morning were a pleasant start to the day, and the location really can't be beat - you're right across the street from the Metreon, and 50 ft. from Powell St. BART (and the start of the cable-car line). Whether you're in the area for a staycation or an actual getaway, check this place out. It's a safe bet! read more

Even though I technically live close to the city, traffic can turn what should be an hour drive into a 2.5 to 3 hour ordeal. Sometimes it's nice to spend the night in town without that stress or worry. I can also stay up a bit later and even have a cocktail that way. I've been doing this for years, and it's allowed me to try a decent number of the local hotels. I had been curious about the Mosser, especially considering it's convenient location. When I read up, I saw the words "shared bathrooms" and decided to pass. Still, I kept wondering. On my latest overnight, I decide to give them a go. We went with one of the twin rooms (I took my Mom along this time), partially because of of the great rate and partially because it had its own bathroom. The room was tiny, but quite cozy. If I had a kid with me, or was sharing for work, this would have been a no go, but for me and Mom, it was just fine. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel was quiet (at least after 10 pm - more on that below). The staff was quite friendly, and the location was exceptionally convenient (close to BART, parking, entertainment, restaurants, etc....). BTW, the picketers were there. Across the street, NOT at this hotel. It was a bit annoying, but didn't really interfere with what we were doing. You kind of have to expect some street noise. It is a city after all. The hotel also thoughtfully provided ear plugs. If you just want a soft place to lay your head and someplace safe to keep your stuff while you explore, the Mosser might be for you. As hotel prices continue to creep up, affordability is a consideration. A night or two some place like this is just fine. I will take the $100+ I saved and direct it to a nice dinner somewhere. read more

This is, as most people say a no frills hotel. What's different about it is that you also need to use a key to go into the front of the hotel. Other hotels usually have security that opens the door. It's in a nice location, which is why I chose it: near Ross, downtown, and a variety of shopping spaces and the Westfield mall. I was able to get to many of the restaurants I wanted to try out there by walking. While they did have makeup remover and soaps, they did not have toothbrush, so I had to walk to the nearby CVS for that. The chair kind of hurt my back sitting on it, but there is a small space for working with your laptop. There's a discount if you stay here for more than 4 or 5 days. read more

The Staff was super helpful, especially when I accidently booked a room for Saturday and Sunday (this past weekend) instead of Friday and Saturday. The staff was able to handle the problem and changed the reservation for the right nights, with no extra charges. They always made sure go greet me every time I came and left. The location is Great. a half of a block from Market street - a major street in SF & around the corner (3 - 5 min walk) from the metro/Bart. Many places to eat within a block and a half. Rooms are a little small, but hey, your in SF, your not going to stay in your room the whole time. Also a big plus, they are LGBTQ+ friendly. read more

I booked this hotel, since I was doing the Nike Half [starting line is at union square] so it really paid off since the race start time was at 6:30 am. i woke up, got ready and didn't have to get an uber/taxi to get to where i needed to go and got to sleep in an extra little bit too! :) I got to the hotel a little bit earlier like 2:30PM [check in time is 3PM] they upgraded me to a room with a bathroom perfect! I will say the room was small but in a good way! specially since it was just me! there was a tv, desk [ near tons of outlets ], bathroom with a tub, a sink, and FREE WIFI score! ... i wasn't in the room that long.. only to sleep, put my things day prior to race and post race. they also very kindly gave me a late check out to 1PM.. I really needed it... specially after running 13.1 miles! they also held my bags after I checked out. overall I had a good time staying here and look forward to coming back! thank you !! oh almost forgot.. they also do wine fridays! complimentary wine at 5PM!! read more

While the only downside is the shared shower and bathroom, this hotel was a great deal. I purchased a deal through Groupon. The room was small, with room for a bed and luggage, and had a closet and a sink. The hotel was warm so there was a fan and ample lighting in the room. The shared shower and bathroom was not a big deal, as you would rarely run into someone else wanting to use it at the same time, and the staff does a great job keeping it clean. The gross part is the individual restroom; it was a small room with just the toilet and hand sanitizer, so you would have to wipe with one hand and use the other hand to exit and get your key card to get into your room to wash your hands. Check in/out was very easy and there were complimentary coffee and muffins every morning. I believed this hotel to be a great experience and a great deal because of its amazing location. How much time can you expect to spend at a hotel when there's so much to see in SF? I was very happy we chose The Mosser for our stay in San Francisco. Normally I like staying here but when I stay at a non-smoking hotel, I expect it to be NON-SMOKING that includes WEED! Every night the people next to us were smoking out and it filled our room with smoke; we had a connecting door. I had a child staying with me, so not cool at all. I called the front desk who informed me that weed is OK. I told them no it's not, I have a child with me they didn't care at all. Its BS.... I don't see anywhere it says weed is ok in the hotel Rules. SO don't stay here unless you want a contact high. read more

The room was TINY!!! Seriously a box. We estimate the dimensions of the room were 10 x 9 and the bathroom 6 x 5. UGH!!! Even rooms in NYC and Tokyo are not this small. There was no storage space, closet and we could only open the door halfway because the foldout luggage rack was in the way. Yeah it was miserable. We looked longingly at the Marriott across the street and wished that we booked our room there, unfortunately the rooms were prepaid online. Escaping claustrophobia was worth the extra $. The website is deceiving, not fully revealing that the full-size platform bed was going to take up the entire room! There is a 13" TV that is attached to the corner of the bed, way too close for comfort and small, but I guess it matches the room. I have to give an extra star for the great valet service, location and modern feel of the hotel. Ceiling fan and the waffle robes gave me a sense of luxury. One more thing, when they changed the sheets, there was a rip, and for some reason, they only provide one flat sheet instead of two, which exposes that gross linty blanket that is always beneath the bedspread. I understand this is a 2 star hotel, I consider it more like a motel, but I will give Mosser it's due regard for cleanliness and modern appeal. The price is right also at $90/nt. read more

This is a great hotel to stay at if your attending any convention next to Moscone or you are just visiting SF in general. The rooms with the shared toilets/showers are clean, comfortable, affordable and are a decent sized for a single traveler.
