My second time staying on Hotel G But a very convenient and comfortable stay. The only downfall about this place is parking is $50 a night and I have to circle around block to get back around to the Westin and park in their garage and second the walls are super thin and you can hear everything. Still the rooms are very spacious and comfortable with a lot of great amenities. The blackout curtains are perfect after a long night out and you want to sleep in those curtains down make it feel like it's night out during the day. Services was great I personally haven't had an issue there and it's in the middle of downtown where we can walk to anywhere. Would stay again. read more

I had high hopes for Hotel G, but the experience fell short in several key ways. The room felt lowbrow and the overall décor was honestly unpleasant, making it hard to feel comfortable or relaxed. There were also some maintenance and comfort issues. The air conditioner was very noisy, and the hot water took an extremely long time to come on. To make matters worse, I spotted silverfish in the bathroom -- not exactly what you want to see during a hotel stay. Basic amenities were noticeably missing: no creamer or bottled water in the room, and there wasn't anywhere convenient nearby to buy necessities. The $40 per day resort fee feels excessive given the lack of perks other than the gym. That said, a couple of positives stood out. The blackout curtains were excellent, and made it easy to get a good night's sleep, and the housekeeping staff were genuinely sweet and accommodating. Overall, despite a few bright spots, the issues outweighed the positives, and I wouldn't stay here again unless significant improvements are made. read more

I live in Napa and frequently take weekend trips in SF. Hotel G is my favorite spot to book. Its location is so close to muni and makes it a great home base to get anywhere in the city. The rooms are VERY clean and smell great which is a must for me. Overall, I'd highly recommend staying here. Prices are also pretty solid. read more

The staff was great and very helpful, but there were several issues that significantly impacted my experience. First, the hotel doesn't have a simple key scanner at the entrance; instead, I had to provide my name and room number every time I entered. After a long day, it felt awkward and inconvenient, especially having to wait while they shuffled through paperwork. The bathroom sink was also extremely small and mounted so close to the mirror that it felt like a safety hazard. There was barely any space to use the sink comfortably. Additionally, the AC unit was completely broken--it ran all night and made strange noises even when switched to "off." It only functioned properly in heat or cooling mode. Finally, the room looked very different from the photos. My room was mostly bare, with hard, cracked concrete floors, which felt uncomfortable and didn't match the expectations set by the pictures. read more

1. The front desk manager is fantastic! 5 stars for Claudia the front desk manager! She did all she could to help offset the pain of the drum banging that starts at 7am and goes all day thanks to the hotel workers strike. And every major hotel in Union Square is suffering so hard to escape it. 2. The hotel and room Really cute restaurant bar that's open during the day and connected to the lobby. Lobby is cute as well with a small area to sit, but with those drums banging I could find no peace anywhere. The hotel pics make it seem far more modern than it is. So imagine good filtering ;) eg They took the original flooring tile, and the original cement and tried to make it trendy cute, but it's obvious. The carpet in the hallway floors is old and dingy. The suite corner room is large and looks nice but the shower is tiny. The corner suites are best imho. The suites not on a corner have bigger showers with bathtubs but they're refurbished not remodeled and the rooms are smaller. They did just enough cosmetic work to make it look nice. As compared to hotels in other countries, it is very nice. As compared to a true boutique hotel, they are trying and it's not bad if you can catch a deal for $200 or less a night for a suite. 3. Parking Parking is $45 overnight with in and out privileges at the Westin right next door which is very convenient and especially given safety issues in SF nowadays. 4. Location location location Close to bart, the trolley, bus public transportation and union square, Starbucks, restaurants, high end and Macy's type shopping, food etc. 5. Safety Not bad, I expected far worse as it's Nov 2024 and the times are a little tricky given extensive homelessness here. But it's not too bad. Just don't walk late night and obey standard safety rules. For what you get and if at an affordable price as mentioned above then I'd for sure come back. Disappointing Experience Due to Front Desk Staff I've stayed at this hotel multiple times and have always enjoyed the property itself the suites are great, and it's typically a place I would confidently recommend to friends and colleagues. However, my recent experience was extremely frustrating and honestly unacceptable. Despite having a confirmed suite, I was denied access to my own room by a front desk employee named David. There was no clear explanation given, and the situation felt unnecessarily difficult and unprofessional. This isn't the first time I've encountered issues with David every stay where he's involved seems to come with some kind of problem but this was by far the worst experience. As a returning guest, I expected a level of consistency and basic hospitality, not to be blocked from entering a room I paid for. It's disappointing because this hotel has so much potential, and I want to recommend it. But as long as guests are treated this way, I cannot in good conscience suggest it to others. I truly hope management takes this seriously. I would absolutely love to recommend this hotel to many people in my network but not until this issue is addressed and the guest experience improves. read more

At first I was skeptical, I hadn't heard of this hotel before... but was going to be in town for a conference (RSA). But wow, did my mind change once I stepped inside... it's a remodeled older hotel, keeping much of the look and feel of a 1920's era hotel but with modern amenities. The elevators look original but slightly updated. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated to leave much of the vintage feel. The vibe was totally cool, next time in SF .. Some of the highlights of our stay were the 12 noon checkout time, TV casting where we were able to watch our favorite shows on hulu, free half bottle of wine, and a $30 credit for the attached restaurant (Corzetti's) which we took advantage of the next morning for some yummy breakfast. The room was great, modern, lots of space, hardwood floors, clean and comfy bed, strong water pressure in the shower, temperature control, and a mini-fridge that looked like a safe (as well as an actual safe in the room). The room gives you a dungeon feel with its cracked concrete floor and an old frayed rug. It has a heater/ac unit that is pretty loud. We picked Hotel G being walking distance to Union Square and all the plentiful cafes and restaurants and amazing shopping just around the block. Hotel G is my go-to hotel when I visit SF for three reasons: convenience, cleanliness, and service. I've had my fair share of disappointing hotel stays in the US, but Hotel G is not one of them. The rooms are always super clean, and the hotel is conveniently located in the city center. The staff here is incredibly friendly and attentive. Kosal, who works at the front desk, was kind enough to give us a free bottle of wine. They also have a charming restaurant next door with really good happy hour deals. Despite being in downtown SF, safety and security have never been issues at Hotel G. The front door to the lobby is locked after 7 pm and guests can only be let in after staff approval which adds an extra layer of security. read more

Was a little nervous upon arrival just because the hotel does look a bit dated and I've never stayed in a non-bigchain hotel before. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised! Extremely friendly and helpful check-in hosts. Received a boxed water as well which was nice. They also offered ear plugs and a noise machine to help with the sound of the protestors (they are very loud and the noise is 24/7). My room was on the other side of the hotel so it was bearable. I'm so impressed by this hotel. It's so cute and very posh. I was skeptical at first, though although the reviews was good. When I first checked in it was seamless and easy. The front desk folks was friendly and nice. The parking was seamless as well. Overall the bedroom was so cozy and cute, it was really cleaned. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. I got this hotel because one of my friend was having her bachelorette party in the city and didn't want to keep driving back and forth. I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel G! I didn't have any problems. Check-in was smooth, and the staff was welcoming, kind, and informative. The lobby was lovely, and I was tempted to hang out there a bit more. The room was the cutest little space that I didn't find different from other hotels I've stayed in while visiting. I loved the decor. I loved the large bed, and the mattress was hella comfortable. The lights on the sides of the bed were such a nice touch! It was *kind of* strange to have the sink in the bedroom? I wasn't fazed by it, but I don't think I've seen that before aha. The bathroom was clean and did what it needed to do. I didn't have any issues with noise coming up from the street or other rooms. Clean, aged but well kept. Parking is in the Westin garage next door, you have to check in first and then go to the garage with your car check. The luggage trolly is in the hotel lobby and you need to take it down the street and then back up. You need your key to operate the elevator, don't forget it because you don't need it to go down but you will need it to go back up! Ask me how I know.. Down the street from the Curran Theater where we were seeing a show, bed was comfortable and plenty of eating spots within a few minutes walk. (Honey Honey Cafe was good!) Eileen was an awesome host and so was the young lady who checked me out early today. There was a discrepancy with which form of payment I used and it was adjudicated within minutes. I got an upgrade for free since I decided to splurge and check in early. It's in walking distance from everything you want to be around extravagant and they make the room up daily. Very nice boutique feel and I love the bare wood painted floors makes me feel like I'm really city living all over again. Plus, newest Italian restaurant connected to the hotel lobby (food was superb and service top-notched. Perfection in every way. Why 1star: Management need hospitality training. I reserved penthouse back in July for birthday celebration in December. In August friends and I booked a table at the new Italian restaurant, since it's connected to HotelG, why not check out the suite? Great lobby reception service, I explained the plan and request to see the penthouse. The on-site manager showed us all three suites on the 12th floor plus two regular rooms for potential guests. Super excited for the December event. Two weeks ago received email notification, they cannot allow any gathering or events of any sorts, suites are strictly for two guests and sleeping only. I replied, may I speak with a manager, have a manager call me or my friend to discuss? Someone responded and said a manager will contact you soon. I followed up with another email to please call me/my friend, in case there were any misunderstanding. I want to be sure to describe the celebration plans and that I booked a 2nd suite and will book the 3rd suite so we do not alter other guests experience on the lower floors. Few more days went by, general manager replied stating he read my previous emails and know the whole story, no need to explain. But due to fire hazard, the hotel cannot allow more than 6 guests in that penthouse, regardless of the size even if I book the whole floor. Lastly, he stated the hotel do not allow unregistered guests after 7pm. I replied it's a shame, this would have been a great celebration. Kindly confirm cancellation of the two suites. No response. Sent another email to the first manager that walked me through the suites, please kindly confirm cancellation so I do not get charged.. No actually reply, two days later, sent cancellation notices. Is this how a high-end boutique hotel in downtown San Francisco treats their potential guests? Apparently at Hotel G, yes. read more

Stayed here for a night as we were in town for a concert in SF. This place was near the concert we were going too. Check in went smooth and when we got to our room we found out the hotel upgraded us and we got a free bottle of wine! The room looked like a small but very roomful studio. We liked that the tv was mounted and we were able to move it, a big walk in closet, and the bed was very comfortable as well. I would definitely stay here again. Only downside is they don't have a parking lot or valet. You will either have to park your car in a public parking lot around the corner or park in valet at the hotel next door. Also they didn't have a bar either. Those are the reasons why is put one star down. read more

I leave allot of five star reviews, but this place really hit it out of the park! First the location was amazing, right off Union Square behind the Westin, right past the garage entrance (which was incredibly convenient and through the hotel cheaper and MUCH more secure than any other close by garages. The best part about being right there was the older hotel was built like an old hotel, we couldn't hear anything including the jackhammering across the street (unless they only jackhammered when we were on the sidewalk outside). The public area showed some age, THICK paint, narrow hallways, tiny elevator, you get the idea. BUT then you get in the room and dang if they weren't super awesome. Okay, I said they but really we were only in our room, the corner terrace suite, and it was amazing. The room itself was reasonably sized, most of the 700ish sqft was outside, and it was rainy and cold while we were there so we didn't really get to use the space so we likely could have been just as happy in the large or extra large king which by hotel standards were HUGE. The room had a huge comfy bed, nice plush leatherish headboard and an array of nice pillows. Over the bed was a gas fireplace that set the right mood on a chilly rainy evening. There was alarge enough TV that we never touched and a nespresso machine with some tea options as well. The fridge in the closet was reasonably sized and the sitting area was nice. Then there was the batroom and the gloriousness that it held. A huge waterfall showerhead in a very curvy ellipse and a lip that barely contained the water. A series of shapes and angles that made you fell welcome and comfortable while being just a little exposed. The room was filled with mirrors that were not square or round, shaped and positioned in ways that made the room seem both larger and more intimate at the same time. The floors were paved with wood appearing tile that was VERY nice, hotel carpets just gross me out and this place never felt dirty at all. The room was better than I had hoped and as a suite less than a basic room at "high end" hotels in the area I couldn't believe it, but I had to, I was there. Okay the make or break, the staff. I have had the chance to work and stay at some of the nicest (and worst) properties all over and the front desk and housekeeping staff can make all the difference. Charles checked us in rather late as our travel plans coming in from the south bay were terribly planned, but he was ready for us and welcomed us graciously if a little scripted. We also interacted with Ricardo and he was quite pleasant. Our housekeeper was amazing, we slept in and she waited for us leaving us extra towels and pods upon seeing how many we used, so thoughtfull and gracious everytime we saw her around. But then there was Josh. I loved dealing with him. Super gracious and never through clenched teeth, he was professional and affable, a very difficult line to walk and he did so expertly. He was warm and easy to talk to, remembering names after a very brief passing for the rest of our stay. We had a great time, and although we do like to mix it up and try new places regularly, I think we have foud "the spot" Thank you to everyone on the Hotel G team, you made the birthday staycation a very great experience! read more

We came here for a concert and i always thought how difficult it was to find a hotel, let alone hotel with parking, in SF. This was by far the most best experience with Hotel G! The front desk attendant was super nice and helpful upon check in. Also advised me about parking, directions and what else was around. it's just a walk 1 minute walk away to the macy center / union square. They lock the doors after hours for safety and i loved that!! i felt safe and secure!!! When we got back from the concert, we felt bad for asking for a few things; bandaids and another blanket, although it was late, the host and security had no hesitation! they had a bright smile, super friendly, and assisted with what sizes i needed. Our stay was a great experience and i will definitely be coming back. what more can you ask for for a clean room, nice bathroom, great hosts, and easy access to centers?! AMAZING STAY. I'm really surprised to see the mix reviews for this hotel. This has hands down been the most professional, courteous and accommodating places I have stayed at. My stay is for 4 days & 3 nights and I booked a room with a King bed. They do lock their front doors and have security security present when it gets late which is nice to feel protected. The place is extremely clean, with a brutalism feel too it. Hallways are carpeted but the rooms have concrete flooring and wooden furniture. Very unique, feels a mix between renovated brutal modern. Overall love the aesthetics. The part that made me give this place 5 stars is their service. The room I stayed at has an adjoining room that is connected by a door. The first night there was no issues, second night it was clear how thin the door was. The family next door was talking normally but we could hear them very clearly. I was a bit shy to ask the lobby if there's anything the can do, especially since it was 9pm on a Sunday. Not only did they validate my concerns, but 10 minutes later they had keys for another room ready for me and my partner. They apologized profusely and gave us a free water, which was definitely not needed but greatly appreciated! I did also wake up 4am the next morning panicking because I had left some stuff in the original room and the lady working the front immediately helped me out to retrieve stuff I left. I haven't even checked out yet, but I can say this has been truly amazing stay! Not only was the policy unreasonable to begin with, staff was very rude and overly aggressive with the enforcement and didn't even allow my guests to sit in the lobby or use the restroom. The man that works the reception desk during the overnight shift deserves to be fired, but most likely his brother or parents own the place. This hotel deserves no money or patronage and deserves to be promptly put out of business. read more

I just wanted to ask a question - she dismissed me in a tone that really just had me take a step back and question if she was talking to me. The Filipino/Asian security harrass me for standing one the STREET. She was constantly telling me to move from NEAR their front door. I was actually near the street and was not even close. I was looking to book a few rooms for my upcoming wedding in 2025 and need 16 rooms total. I felt I was dismissed due to my apperance (I had just gotten off of work and was just stopping by to ask about reservations.) Please be careful if you are a person of color because that is honestly the feeling they gave. Like I wasn't enough to even be allowed to be near the front door. I love this hotel! It doesn't look like much from the outside but the actual room itself is great. Only reason why I docked off a star is because the parking is a bit confusing but that's SF for you. I bought parking on my phone for the Westin because that's where guests from Hotel G have to park. I showed the valet the parking and they said I had to buy it from the hotel itself. Other than the parking, I enjoyed that you can text a phone number for any extra towels or robes. Also the nespresso in the room was so cool! Most hotels just have a standard coffee maker. This hotel is super close and basically walking distance to Union Square also :) I will definitely be staying here when I feel like going on a weekend getaway to SF. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Hotel G. My boyfriend and I stayed three days and it was an incredible experience. The location was perfect; it was so close to a lot of delicious restaurants, Chinatown, Little Italy, and great entertainment. The room was neat and the rich natural lighting was an additional perk. By far, the most enriching part of our stay was the kind hotel staff. Beyond generous and hospitable, they met our every need with a smile and did not hesitate to accommodate our requests. If you have any remaining hesitations about travel due to COVID, you can rest assured knowing that the hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff do what they can to make you feel safe and healthy. If I can give this place 0 stars I would. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. The actual build of the hotel rooms are bad, all floors creak so loudly, thin walls so you could hear all of your neighbors, and has WORST customer service I have ever experienced. My group had a mix up of reservations and we had a friend coming up with us last minute, but David (person working in lobby) stopped all of us at the lobby and checked for our IDs. There were many people walking through the lobby that he did NOT check their IDs for. We felt like this was targeted, and other reviews had the same issue with David checking IDs for only certain people. At 3AM, he made 1 of our friends leave, and told us she has 3 mins to pack her stuff and go or else he's calling the cops. Instead of giving us solutions, like booking an extra room, or being accommodating, or compassionate-- he threatened us. At 3AM. At a city we were just visiting. We felt so unsafe, we are all a group of young women, and felt like we had no options. The tone he used was so unwelcoming and very condescending. No person should ever be talked to like that. Apparently David has had so many complains (past reviews are evident of that) but there are obviously no consequences for his actions, mistreatment, and unjust ways. Hotel G as a franchise needs to do something about this employee because it is obviously showing that they tolerate racism, disrespectfulness, and awful customer service. So. I stayed in room 803. I may as well have stayed in room 801 and 802 as there is no acoustic treatment at all it's almost as if guests in adjoining rooms are in your room. From their conversations to the TV to the sound of them on the toilet. your with them separated by a door with zero acoustic treatment. Worst nights sleep I have ever had. Nice hotel right in Union Square. Location makes it pretty easy to walk to a lot of SF neighborhoods, as well as public transit - Muni, BART, and the famous cable car - are all right down the block. We booked a Good King room, and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Greatest King room the day we checked in. The room was very clean, and quite spacious, both by SF standards and just in general, however the bathroom was still small, but served its purpose. The only thing I didn't like was that the bathroom sink basin was tiny. Fine for hand washing, but when I'd wash my face in it in the morning, I'd always get water all over the floor. Overall, not a huge deal though. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and I really appreciated that there were black out shades with side channels, which helped the room get very dark at night. We were on a high floor, and during the day with the shades up, the room got a lot of natural light, which was also nice. The design of the room and hotel are well thought out, and staff were all friendly and helpful. When I needed extra towels or pillows, housekeeping brought them up very fast. Parking is valet, and is $45/night right next door at the Westin garage. Super easy to get to, and the price is about the lowest I've personally seen an SF hotel charge for parking. read more
