Our party of 3 had the pleasure of visiting the Mountaineering Club tonight to celebrate my 1 week of recovery from a bilateral mastectomy as a result of a breast cancer diagnosis. It was important for us to get out of the house, watch the sunset, and a have lil' cocktail to supplement my pain meds. Jesse and Devon (sp?) we SO amazing. I said to my sister (who is visiting from Alabama) from the start after meeting Devin "oooh girl, I love their energy". Because they are the sweetest person you'll ever meet. After hearing a lot about The Mountaineering Club, my friends and I decided to give it a shot. We went on a Sunday with 5 people in our party. Took almost an hour to get seated, but we were able to grab some drinks from the coffee shop on the first floor of the hotel, which was a nice option. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once we got upstairs it was gorgeous! Lots of great seating options both inside and out. The views of downtown Seattle and Bellevue were EPIC.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were very friendly as well! I have to say, for the price the food and drinks weren't at the level I expected. We ordered nachos, crab Rangoon dip, and pretzel bites. The nachos were probably our favorite, but they weren't anything special for $22. The Rangoon dip was mostly cream cheese and barely had any flavor. I think they were depending on the nori chips to bridge the gap, but those didn't taste the greatest. Finally the pretzel bites were okay, but nothing I couldn't get at another gastropub for a much lower price. The drinks were fine, but not that strong. I ordered the Glacier Peak which was beautiful and refreshing. We'll be back for the views and maybe a couple of cocktails, but I'd say if you're bar hopping, spend money on food somewhere else in the area. read more

Oof! This used to be one of my favorite spots, but it has gotten to the point that I don't see myself returning. I made a reservation since I was going on a sunny Saturday. Here is a general breakdown of the timeline of events. 5:39- I arrive for my 5:45 reservation a little early. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They let me go up to the roof and hang out on the patio until my table is ready.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I chat with the host, let her know where I will be, and she ensures me she will grab me the moment my table is ready. 5:55- I get seated at a table. The hostess never came to get my friend and I, we had to go back to the stand and ask. She took us to a dirty table and said she would come back to wipe it off. We were understanding and polite. 6:15- Our server says hi and that she will be with us in a second. Doesn't acknowledge that we have been waiting 20 minutes. 6:35- After watching our server take the orders at 4 tables that got there after us, then disappear, we left. During the 40 minute period we were waiting to order, we did try to order at the bar, but people were shoulder to shoulder and the one bartender was avoiding eye contact and not openly accepting orders, so we gave up on that. I still can't believe I was there an hour and had one contact with a server and never got to order anything. They add a 20% automatic tip, so the servers really have no incentive to be helpful. I am pretty shocked at our experience, but I have also been watching the service here steadily decline over the past few years. Torn writing this. I came in for pre concert snack and was thoroughly disappointed, the only consolation was the weather was nice to wander from the bar outside to finish my Diet Coke. I'm not sure how old the Graduate Hilton is, that elevator is rickety. The poor lighting and the super dim lighting doesn't help, it's giving horror film. Let alone when one has to go up to Mountaineering Club, the host checks ones ID and sends you up is a like a bouncer at a club giving the thumbs up for one to go up to a restaurant. Mind you, when I conversed with the gate keeper of the elevator/hotel, he was pretty unprofessional having a side conversation while assisting me, that side conversation was loud and it was a personal conversation that should've waited. Once exiting the elevator, ones smacked in the middle of a very furniture room, quite a bit of confusion as I wanted to sit outside and catch the last breezes of Seattle summer before heading in for a concert across the street. I got seated at the bar, with the best* view apparently. Considering I have less than 50 minutes to exit, I ordered just a seafood/clam chowder and a Diet Coke. Chowder was rustic and the cubed potatoes is raw, there is seafood in it and it was very rubbery. Diet Coke was meh. Ambiance, odd mix that night. Grown adults in hoodies and short shorts, men in flannel and jeans. Older crowd dressed for date night. I could tell there were maybe a few out of towners and the rest were most likely from the surrounding area. 20% Tip was automatically added to bill, as stated on the bottom of menu. This is the part where I can feel why service and vibe was so lacklustre and meh. They don't care about the customers experience. Will pass. read more

I came for the first time on Halloween and had a great experience! The view outside is beautiful and they have plenty of seating all around. The service was amazing, everyone was very kind and attentive. I got two Halloween cocktails, the Chupacabra was like a horchata and it was very sweet. The baba yaga is a strawberry & rhubarb with beet honey and is very light, this was my favorite drink. I also got nachos which were delicious & loaded! Great view, atmosphere and service . Overpriced drinks for the size of the drinks which have average tastes. I think they're positioning this as an exclusive bar by suggesting reservations and calling upstairs before sending you up. It's a good one-time visit. Expected a high end experience and certainly did not get it! The place tries to act high end with reservations being required, having to check in at the main lobby area, staff has to call upstairs to see if you are allowed up, staff has to use their key card to allow the elevator to go up to the top floor, etc. That is where everything stopped being exclusive. At the bar there is a person I would presume is in charge of scheduling sitting there with her computer out. She's calling out to staff asking their availability and they're coming over and looking at the computer and discussing work issues and time lines. Literally felt like I was at work at a staff meeting! So tacky and unprofessional. Definitely took away from any type of upscale atmosphere they were trying to create. This was on a Thursday evening.....bar is full.....and there she is taking up a seat and disrupting the paying customers!!!! Good service filters down from the top, and if this is the example a manager type provides to her employees, now I know why there are so many negative reviews about the service. We were there in mid July, Perfect time to enjoy the outdoor area. Unfortunately, that area was very unkept.....one unplugged small heater, a fire pit type area not being utilize. Things not wiped down or swept....you get the picture. The fire pit thing is shoved way back in a corner. Most people don't even know it's there! If you sit at the bar, there is a large opening where you can see sinks, and the back area of the bar. No door, no curtain.....again not high end in any way, shape, or form. Tacky visual and noisy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I absolutely loved this little bar atop the Graduate Hotel in Seattle. It was one of the highlights of my trip![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Specifically let me make two shout outs. One, the Clear Conditions drink. This had horseradish gin, pickle juice, some herbs and spices, and aquavit. If you like savory drinks you'll love this. It also comes with a cheese cube garnish. I kept coming back for one of these :) Second, the wonderful service. Every server and bartender I had here was lovely, kind, prompt and fun. Service is already included in the bill and they earn every penny and a maybe even a little more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, got to mention the beautiful view of Seattle and the Space needle which will thrill you if you're a tourist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would stay in this hotel again just for this bar. Went to this place for a fundraising event and it was our first visit. What you should know is this is a rooftop bar atop a Marriott hotel. The rooftop area is very nice but getting there is a bit weird, the lobby was a bit dated and cluttered and the check in process was weird and we had to wait in turns for the elevator bc there were so many reservations at the same time. My first experience was with 8 dads at fathers weekend. We were trying to meet four friends who were already in the bar, but we were told that the bar was full and they were not allowing any more people. When we informed our friends who were already in the bar, they said there was no one in here except us. They then asked someone at the bar if we could be let in, and they did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon getting out of the elevator at the bar, we again found no one in the bar; there was an area set up for a private party(which was empty).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went to the bar to order drinks, but we were told we had to order them from our table. Upon very politely asking a manager why we were not allowed to order from the bar, we were very rudely told that if we did not like it, we should leave. The second incident was when my daughter came here with 14 of her friends for a 21st birthday party. They were told at the door that, since there were more than eight of them, it would be a $250 charge to get into the bar. They asked if they could split up to save money, and they were told they could, but that they could not talk between the tables. With that said, since they were all dressed up, they decided to pay the $250 and go up to the bar. Upon getting to the bar, again, there were very few people there, and they ordered their drinks. After ordering their drinks, they were then told that the bar would close early tonight in 30 minutes, which shocked them. The server was extremely apologetic and said they should have told you that before you paid. Being in the services business and knowing that feedback is important, I sent a very polite email to the manager, Sandy, explaining the situation and suggesting that they either should have waived the $250 or reimbursed them for it. As of today, I have yet to hear from Sandy or anyone else in the organization. Note: I finally heard back from Sandy, who offered a sincere apology and said she would host the group of girls again at no charge, with a discount on their first drink. Although this is very generous, the issue is that this was a special event for seniors, and the girls are highly unlikely to come back as a group this size. The truth is that the right thing to do is to reimburse them the $250 that should never have been charged. read more

It's very classy as soon as you walk in without feeling like you have to dress up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Reservations are recommended as it gets busy specially in the summers but I went at the end of January on a Wednesday and they walked us in. Everyone was very kind and the server was very nice and knowledgeable on the items in the menu. The first time I came I wanted to try the nachos and it was the best nachos I have ever had as silly as that sounds. I love me a good nachos. The nachos are unique, they use a specific potato chips as the base, with beans, cheese, pico de gallo, cilantro, corn glazed with chili mayo? It's DIVINE. This is a funky space in a cool old hotel and the vibes were great. There were ski boots and poles hanging up with cases of funky old mountain paraphernalia. I'd never been up high in this part of town and it was cool to see Capitol Hill and South Lake Union from this vantage point. I got a wonderful drink recommendation from our super friendly server and I loved it. It was whiskey based and very balanced. My sis ordered a crab dip of some kind and although I'd eaten already, I couldn't resist "helping" her with it. The ambiance was really what I liked about this place, I enjoyed the skiing and other mountain/hiking/camping decor they had throughout. Views are great. It's a great experience to come up here for a drink. Except that my cocktail tasted a bit weak. I ordered a gin-based cocktail with berries and something pine-flavored. Gin has a pretty strong flavor. I ordered the gin-based cocktail because I want to taste the aromatics of the gin, but I couldn't taste it at all. I also couldn't taste much of the pine - mostly just berries, like drinking a fruit juice. I also ordered the Cesar salad. I appreciated how the salad had a lot of fixins in it, including some thinly sliced watermelon radishes, avocado, and red onions. However, the salad needed a bit more acidity. Be warned that it is not seat-yourself for the outside seats. You do need to see a hostess to be seated in one of the outside booths. We all ordered diet cokes which were comically flat, not a drop of carbonation. We brought this up several times to multiple people but absolutely nothing was done about it, we were not even asked if we wanted something else, and had to ask once the bill came to remove them, and only two were removed. It took so long for the server to come take our cards that my friend had to take them up to the bar. In addition we were notified at 8 when our food arrived that the kitchen was closing, which seemed rather early and we did not get an opportunity to order dessert. So, we came by with a reservation on Resy. Something to keep in mind that the Resy information concerning updating them if you are running late, as they do hold the reservation for 15 mins and the construction on university ave is a factor. Message them on Resy don't try to call the resy confirmation number as that only will keep ringing. Views are lovely and you will be entering the graduate hotel, run by Hilton group, they have a separate check in desk by the elevators, make sure you check in as they will notify the team up top of your arrival. Elevators are keyed access and why you need to check in at the graduate lobby check in desk there. Rooftop bar had a lovely view of partial lake Washington, 1-5, and space needle. We had; *Washington Appleseed * Dark Cabaret * MC Sampler Platter Drinks seemed weak and I think it might be due to the location and them being aware of college students. Food was disappointing both for what was offered and the quality and taste of the sampler we got. Come by if you are in the area and want some views with your drinks as we do not have a plethora of options for rooftop bars :). read more

We had a party of 7 looking to get a drink at 3:00 pm when they opened and waited for 20 minutes before we went up. Everyone in our party ranging in age from 52 to 80 was carded, my 75 year old mother-in-law couldn't drink because she only had a picture of her ID. Don't confuse this spot with The Mountaineers outdoor club based in Magnuson Park -- The Mountaineering Club is a rooftop bar tucked atop The Graduate Hotel in the U District, and it's a hidden gem for North Seattle. If you live, work, or hang out near the U-District, this is a rare find: a rooftop lounge with stunning views of the city on a clear day, perfect for happy hour or a casual meetup with friends. We ordered the Wagyu and Dungeness crab hot dog, the chicken sandwich, and the clam chowder. The hot dog had a satisfying snap, and the house-made pickles and coleslaw were a standout. The chowder? Surprisingly excellent -- easily rivaling some of the big-name chowder spots in Seattle. Drinks were solid overall, though the non-alcoholic shrub leaned a little too hard into vinegar territory for my taste. The whole place leans into a chic campground aesthetic -- think classy cabin in the woods, with vintage outdoor gear and memorabilia giving it a cozy, playful vibe. We had one of the most frustrating and poorly managed experiences this past Sunday at Mountaineering Club, located inside the Graduate Hotel. What should have been a relaxing rooftop visit turned into 40+ minutes of miscommunication, wasted time, and zero accountability. It started at check-in. We were quoted a 45-minute wait and gave our name for a text notification--no issue there. However, when we asked about restrooms, the hostess sent us up multiple flights of stairs without providing the required keypad codes. We had to call back downstairs to get access, and even then were only given one code--only to find out the men's and women's restrooms had different codes. Completely avoidable and a waste of time. While waiting, the same hostess offered to sell us bottled drinks and personally walked us to a fridge to purchase them. Less than five minutes later, she told us our table was ready--but we were not allowed to bring the drinks upstairs. When we asked why this wasn't mentioned before purchasing, her response was that she "thought about saying something, but didn't." That alone set the tone. Then, after already waiting about 20 minutes, we were told we needed IDs to go upstairs--something that was never mentioned earlier. Our friend, clearly in her 40s, didn't have her physical ID on her, though she had a digital copy. Instead of handling this reasonably, we were told we could go up but would be restricted to an early "last call" at 8:30pm--despite it only being 8:05pm. At this point, after over 30 minutes of confusion and shifting rules, I asked to speak with a manager. No apology was offered at any point. When the manager arrived, there was a private side conversation with the hostess before addressing us. As we calmly explained the series of issues, the hostess interrupted to defend herself rather than acknowledge the missteps. The manager then doubled down--offering no apology, citing "liquor board rules," and telling us we would need to leave by 9pm anyway, despite the bar being open until 10pm. No ownership. No accountability. No effort to make things right. After more than 40 minutes of disorganization, poor communication, and constantly shifting expectations, we chose to leave. This experience wasn't about strict policies--it was about a complete failure in basic hospitality: Lack of clear communication Selling products without disclosing restrictions Inconsistent and reactive rule enforcement And most importantly, zero customer care when things went wrong. Frustrating thing is we've been there before and no ID requirements were asked of before. For a venue that positions itself as a premium rooftop experience, this was incredibly disappointing. Had dinner here while visiting Seattle and really enjoyed it! It's a very cool rooftop restaurant and bar near the University. Inside, the decor is warm and ambient with dim lighting, while the outdoor area offers great city views and is mostly covered. The food had good flavor, and the drinks were solid too. Come here for the rooftop views! We stopped by on a cold winter night and ordered a Hot Choco-Chalet and a Tiki-Toddy--both perfect for warming up. Without a reservation, we tried our luck and made our way up. The bar was bustling, all tables were full, but we managed to grab bar seats just as a couple was leaving. It was packed--a great sign that this spot is popular for a reason! This place would make such a cute birthday venue, with great vibes and a lively atmosphere. And of course, you have to step outside and take in the stunning view of Seattle. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I've come here a couple of times for the food and views! Usually, I don't expect much about food at rooftop bars but here is pretty good! The salmon dip was interesting as the whole salmon was a chunk so it was a little difficult to dip. Other than that, we enjoyed food and drinks. Reservation is highly recommended. Their employee would check our reservation on the first floor, and get the elevator for us. Our server was friendly and attentive. The facility was beautifully decorated and the views were perfect on a not-raining day! Parking is street parking in the Udistrict. read more

5/5 for ambiance and one of the most unexpectedly spectacular views of Lake Washington AND South Lake Union. My group and I got there at sunset and it was breathtaking. The space as you enter the hotel is also super swanky. If I was a UW student, this would have been in rotation for fave study spots. The food is fun. Think: millennial glamping. You have a few spreads to choose from that have good dips, crackers, and pickles to others with smoked meats. The drinks were strong and delicious. The finale for us were the s'mores. Super fun and nostalgic. Roasting your marshmallows may take a while if your group is larger like ours (8). Only downer is that parking can be a bit tricky and seating may be a bit cramped if it's busy. Bonus is they're open late though - 1 am. So glad to have found out about this place. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We went there on a Tuesday night, expecting that the place wouldn't be busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were staying in the Graduate hotel. No one was there to check our IDs before we'd be allowed to take the elevator to the restaurant at the rooftop. So we waited. And waited. And waited - on a slow Tuesday night. The person at the front desk said 'thank you for your patience' when we inquired as to when we might be able to frequent this apparently incredible establishment. No one ever arrived. So we left. What beautiful views! Our group of 5 made reservations for the rooftop bar in the UW Graduate hotel on a late Sunday night. The location is named The Mountaineering Club and apparently used to be a personal apartment awhile back. Now it's a beautiful 360 degree bar, restaurant with the most amazing views! We had some snacks and a few rounds of drinks and took some wonderful photos. Liese N was our server and was patient and friendly with us. Parking is difficult as it is pretty much anywhere in the U District but we found a pay lot about 2 blocks away. We loved the Campsite Spread which was a charcuterie board and not so much the Sea-Ranch popcorn (seaweed and ranch flavors. Yuck!). Others had the Butter Bean Hummus for a snack. The cocktails were pricey at about $17 each but we knew we were paying for the view as well as the drinks before going. I ended up having a few bottles of Rainier Beer at $5/bottle to help. Overall, this place has very wide ranging and spectacular views with lots of heated outdoor seating nooks. Great for drinks with a view! read more
