If you like pizza, you'll like this place. Old school dive bar / pizza restaurant. Definitely for the locals, but close to the Columbus airport. We ordered a 5 topping large pizza (pepperoni, sausage, ham, mushrooms and black olives). It came out piping hot and liked high. They do not skimp on the toppings, I mean do not skimp on the toppings. That was a concern since the crust is thin, maybe the crust will get soggy...Nope crispy for every bite. The pizza is delicious. We bellied up to the bar and grabbed a couple beers while we waited. The bar tender (forgot her name) was supper cool and gave us great service. She was pretty funny too. This place has the best thin crust pizza. Their Italian sub is really tasty too! The atmosphere is kinda old school-which I like! I am giving one star due to service---the lack of it! On several occasions we call to order for pick-up and are told "about 20 minutes." Three times out like 8 the order has been ready in 20 minutes. One time it was 45 minutes! Tonight -- we were told 20 minutes. When we arrived at about 30 minutes after placing the order we were told it hadn't been started. The bar help & kitchen help began to debate about the order. She said she gave it to him. He stated he never received it. VERY DISAPPOINTED & frustrated. The food is so good. I really wish the service matched it or was at least in the same ball park. I think that this might be our new happy hour place! We were running errands today before a 3:00 cookout. Stopped by a wonderful farmers stand on Agler Rd. and still had almost an hour to kill. Thought we would check out Dolphin Bar but they were not open (2:00 on a Saturday) so went next door to The Mug. Old school bar. Service at bar was terrific. Judging from conversations overheard a lot of regulars. $2 beers all the time! Bathroom was clean (big plus in my book). Pool tables and bowling game. Will definitely be back. This was my first time at The Mug and we heard this is the oldest bar in Gahanna. This bar has three pool tables which cost $1.25 a game. A good bar to hang with friends and ply pool! The beer is cheap and the atmosphere is classic old time bar. read more

So, I set out to find Grandma's pizza in Gahanna. I called the number and it was disconnected. My drive-by proved unfruitful (or, unpizzaful, really). Then, like a beacon shining through the pizza-soup fog, I saw it - "The Mug. Pizza" all lit up on a big red sign. Now, I had heard plenty about the old Mug-N-Jug, mostly people telling me to never go there . . .so, of course, I had to go. Apparently when new ownership took over two years ago, they dropped the Jug and added a pizza oven. Stepping inside, I immediately recognized the upholstered barstools from my youth in the early 70s (yes, like me, they could all use a little re-upholstering). The rest of the bar is lots of wood paneling, tables and pool tables. Did I feel a bit out of place in a suit? Sure, but no one seemed to care much, so it was all good. The service was great. The pizza itself is on the saucy side of life. It's Ohio style, heavy on the sauce (which I happen to like). The sauce itself had some sort of distinguishing spice thing happening (cinnamon, maybe?) Apart from the mortal sin of using canned mushrooms, everything else was within acceptable parameters. I can't say that I'll run back to the Mug anytime soon, but, hey, this shining beacon did just fine pinch hitting for Grandma on pizza night. A-OK. read more

It's a hole-in-the-way sort of place, but it's a great sort of place. A friend turned me on to the Mug-N-Jug when I visited Ohio this winter. Incidentally, we spent New Years here. The beauty of this place is that it's a local joint. Everyone seems to know each other, and they're not unfriendly towards newcomers. It's a pretty simple interior, no fancy decoration, but it does have a few tables asides from the bar seating, if you want to sit with your party away from the center of action. There's some billiards in there, too, and a jukebox. Their shots are amazing. No matter what you have a taste for, the bartenders can find something for you. Sour, sweet, chocolatey, fruity, alcoholic, whatever it is that you're looking for. I recommend the Pixi Stick, it's a sweet/tangy shot, but they can make you anything, and the prices aren't bad, either. It's $1 for a jello shot, and anywhere from $3-$5 per shot, depending on what goes into it, and then it ranges for cocktails and mixed drinks, though I think the most expensive I saw was about $8. It's a friendly place, not too fancy, but good for some drinks and conversation. It's casual, though, not the place to get tarted up for, but good for a night out for just some drinks. I don't recommend spending New Years there, though. It would've been a better place for a low-key evening out. read more

Waited 90 minutes checking in with Mandi the bartender every half hour asking if my pizza was ready she replied NO, there's 14 pizzas ahead of you after an hour wait. Whats so cool about this place is that they have wifi and they call there happy hour "attitude adjustment". Wow. What a fun find in Columbus! It was mid day and I was looking for some lunch. Yelp told me the Mug was near so I thought I would give it a shot. I was apprehensive at first because it appeared that there was nobody here. But, I wondered on in and glad I did. The two ladies working were awesome. One was bartending and the other was in the kitchen. Both were so very personable. As we made small talk, a few others walked in. Some for a quick shot and others for the pizza special this day. All in all I would recommend The Mug to anyone that likes friendly people and good food. And it is always a plus to stray from the chains. I will be back here for sure. I think I will try an evening visit because I have a feeling that the place could be a blast at night! read more

This place is great. I just moved in the area, was looking for some pizza for my toddler and myself after doing some home improvement. We went in on a Monday around 1pm. I wasn't sure if it would be kid friendly or not, having never seen or heard anything about it. We went in and ordered to go and played some pool while we waited. While I would say the atmosphere is not quite kid friendly, the staff was very friendly towards the little guy. The lady at bar was very supportive in his mad billiards skills. Not only was the staff very nice, wen we got home we found that the pizza was delicious. Win win. read more
