Brayan Hibachi Express--6/2/21…read more Case summary: About average Japanese fare featuring hibachi, sushi and a few classic appetizers. Food 3/5 Brayan Hibachi Express is a food truck centrally located in Wellington. Located in a now vacant parking lot by the roundabout, they feature a large menu of classic hibachi entrees with a wide array of protein options. There is a picnic table on site as well, but I could tell most of the business would be carryout. For this outing, I chose their recommendation of hibachi chicken. It featured all white meat chicken, veggie medley (carrot, onion, broccoli and zucchini) and large helping fried rice. Right off the bat the chicken was over-cooked and somewhat dry. The sauce which is reminiscent of a teriyaki sauce was delightful however. The fried rice was cooked properly and otherwise unremarkable. Finally the veggie medley was predominantly zucchini, but was well cooked throughout. I also picked up a "Wellington Roll" which is a deep fried sushi roll featuring tempura shrimp, crab stick, and cream cheese. It was topped "yum yum sauce" (a sorta kinda mild spicy mayo) and topped with crab stick. As you can see from the photos, respectable rice to filling ratio and was otherwise a great choice for that crunch aspect. You also receive an extra side of yum yum sauce as well. The last dish I ordered was the jalapeño poppers with a sweet chili sauce. I would say this is the weakest dish as jalapeño itself was very thick throwing off the ratio of jalapeño to batter. It was crispy from the jalapeño itself and not from the fact it was deep fried. A thinner cut or smaller bite size pieces would carry this dish to what we all think about from our favorite bars. Overall I would try these dishes again if the execution was better. I believe if Brayan Hibachi Express were to execute the proper cook on the chicken as well as the jalapeño poppers, this would be a great little spot for Japanese cuisine in Wellington, Kansas.

I made the grave mistake of ordering the senior ribeye. I mistakenly thought it would be like a regular ribeye cut in half. No it wasn't. I have no idea what this meat was, but it looked like skirt steak. It was 1/6 inch thick. I measured it! I ordered it medium rare which is laughable, because you literally couldn't cook it to anything besides well done because it would take probably 20 seconds to cook. I received this steak after waiting about 50 minutes for our food. My boyfriend on the other hand, ordered a prime rib medium, and his came out not even rare. He couldn't eat it. They did comp the prime rib but we paid for mine. To make all this worse, it was SO HOT upstairs I couldn't stand it. Granted it was very warm that day, but if you get overheated quickly, do not eat upstairs in the summer.I'm afraid this will be the last time we go to my beloved Rusty Barrel. We have celebrated so many occasions there including me and my love's very first date together. I am heartbroken.

You got to give it to Cadillac Jack's for the ambition to open a steakhouse in this small town…read more The place is spacious and separated by two areas, front of house with the bar, and a back dining area. Both areas also had different vibes (music and aesthetic). The overall theme though pays homage to the towns train industry. The backroom where I ate had a "post war" music thing going with heavy Billie Holiday vibes; Jazzy, blues, relaxing music. Definitely felt more intimate and would be where you'd want to sit for a date. I went during the lunch hour and it was pretty empty, few people, but for a Thursday that's to be expected. Ordered the 10oz sirloin medium rare with the loaded baked potato. Order to table delivery was roughly 20 minutes, and the server was very polite. Approximate cost was ~$29. If you're wanting to do something nice for a loved one or take someone on a "fancy" date, this would be a place I'd recommend for the local area.

Chicken fried steaks so tough and couldn't chew. None of us ate our meal. A lot of money, terrible service and inedible food. Won't go back. Drive 10 minutes to Burrton and eat at the Barn. A bit embarrassing to feed guests for special occasion .
