It was just okay, kind of a let down as far as Gordon Ramsey restaurants go. We chose The Narrow for breakfast for two reasons: their early start time (open at 8 am on Sunday) and the view. It was also quite easy to get to from our hotel via the DLR. It is not at all the restaurant's fault that it was super foggy and the view was nil. But then we had no choice but to assess the restaurant on everything but the view. We were the only ones there, arriving around 9. It was our departure day, so just trying to have a nice breakfast on our last day. We appreciated the early opening, but they didn't seem quite ready for people. The worst part was how cold it was in the restaurant. They fired up a propane heater - that smelled really bad - but then it promptly shut off and we were cold the entire time. Food came out fast - too fast! Ham on the eggs Benedict was thick and cold. English muffins not toasted well enough. Hollandaise was cold. I would have preferred they take the time to cook it all properly, and give us some time to relax. Orange juice was not fresh squeezed and no alcohol until 11. The server offered us strawberry jam for our pastry plate but then came back saying they didn't have any. They gave us small amounts of water and didn't leave the bottle on the table or ever offer refills. The server had squeaky sneakers and because we were the only ones there, we heard every time he came to watch us to see if we were done. It felt like he was rushing us out. With two courses, we were in and out in 30 minutes, that's not really what I was looking for. Good points: poached eggs were cooked as perfectly as you'd expect in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The view is lovely I'm sure on a non foggy day. Maybe all is great later in the day, but I'd skip this spot for early birds. I've previously visited Gordon Ramsay's Heddon Street Kitchen for brunch and it was a much better experience, in terms of liveliness, food offerings, and food quality.

Yorkshire pudding to go

The Narrow is a beautiful unsuspecting restaurant in the Limehouse area of London. It looks like nothing from the street but when you go down the stairs, you enter a very beautiful restaurant on the river Thames. We stayed in Paddington so we took the underground to the overground then caught an Uber from the train station to the restaurant. It was pretty easy and worth the couple modes of transportation. The Narrow is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. We knew we wanted to try one while we were in London and quite frankly, it had the best sounding menu and was much more affordable than some other choices. It was also nice that the restaurant is on the river so you also get beautiful views while you dine. When we entered, we were asked if we had reservations, we said no and the host was very kind and found us an amazing table next to the large windows so we could see the river. I was shocked we were able to get such a nice table with no reservations. The host also made conversation with us and was very welcoming. When we sat down we were given menus. We each ordered a diet coke and some water and bread with butter. We then decided on fish and chips for our main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. We even asked for Yorkshire Pudding to go and they even obliged that! First off, the bread and butter were great. The bread was obviously freshly baked and slightly warm. Our order included four pieces of bread, two of each variety so we each got to try the different types. Next, we had the fish and chips. I was debating between that and a roast they had that day, mainly because I wanted to try the Yorkshire Pudding but I also really wanted some good fish and chips and I was figuring this restaurant wouldn't disappoint. It was wonderful! The fish was so fresh and hot! The batter was light and crisp with a good amount of flavor. The chips were prefect. Crispy yet pillow soft on the inside. The mushy peas were interesting, just not my thing and the tartare sauce was literally the best I have ever had. They really need to jar it so you can take some home. It was awesome! Finally we had decided we wanted to try Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was served with a salted caramel ice cream. It was so rich, my sister and I shared it and it was definitely enough for both of us. It was excellent! Our Yorkshire Pudding was also wonderful! Light, airy and crispy on the outside. It was so dang good! The service was impeccable. The views were beautiful and our entire lunch was delightful. The restaurant definitely did not disappoint at all! I would happily return!

So, this was my first experience at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and I'll say I was not disappointed. My sister and I wanted to have a nice lunch so we grabbed a Uber from the overground station. We arrived just after noon. We walked in and were asked if we'd made reservations, this hadn't even occurred to us. We said no and the were told they could give us a table. We were seated in the covered patio overlooking the water. Menus were brought promptly and our drink orders were taken. We were then offered bread and butter which we say yes too. It was a nice start to our lunch. My sister and I both ordered the fish and chips. The food arrived after about 20 minutes with everything pipping hot. The fish was fresh and crisp, the fries perfectly cooked. Everything was wonderful and the freshly made tartar sauce was exceptional. I've never had a better tartar sauce. We also ordered Yorkshire Pudding to go because we love Yorkshire Pudding and very badly wanted to try some while we were in England. The server graciously gave us some to take with us. For dessert we ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding to share. It was wonderful. It was extremely rich and sweet but I thought it was the perfect ending to our meal. The food was wonderful, service was great and the view beautiful. If I return to London I would not hesitate to return to The Narrow.

Special ribeye steak, served with peppercorn sauce, with chips, rocket and tomato salad
June W.

Had dinner here tonight. Bread and butter to start with (not free, but ok). Nice selection of breads, including foccacia, seeded roll, and poppy seed roll. Nice Gloucestershire butter - yum. Had the Camden Pale Ale (just so so) and the London Pride Cask Ale (better than the Camden). Ordered 2 hanger steaks (served with chips and rocket/tomato salad), a side of cole slaw, and the special - ribeye with chips, and rocket/tomato salad, and a side of Caesar salad. All steaks were ordered medium rare. All were what we would consider redder than normal for medium rare. One of the hanger steaks was way, way rare. The peppercorn sauce was good, the chips were very crispy, and good. The rocket and tomato was good. The cole slaw was a bit too creamy/goopy for our tastes (we like ours more lightly dressed). The Caesar salad was good, but also a bit overly dressed. (Maybe a British thing to saturate salads with too much dressing? 3rd restaurant in 3 days that did that) Told the waiter at the end of dinner about the too-rare steak. He said hanger steaks are tough to get right because of the varying thickness of the meat. I don't know about that - had hanger steaks in many places cooked medium rare that were just fine. All in all, nice place, nice atmosphere, good service, food just ok.

Yikes. Thought I would take a moment to share my thoughts while the experience is fresh in my mind. Let me start by saying we were absolutely stoked at the idea of visiting a Gordon Ramsay restaurant; we get a kick out of his style and have a lot of respect for his talent and what he does. The experience we had during our visit absolutely did not mirror what we were expecting. The restaurant itself is situated right along the Thames in a neat little unassuming area filled with a mixture of residences and other businesses. The location is actually pretty awesome. Right off the bat, we both felt slightly overdressed; as we were walking into the front, families with small children were on their way out, and were all dressed pretty casually. Totally on us for feeling the need to be all fancy lol, but I was honestly a little surprised by how laid back the atmosphere seemed, as well as how many kids we saw while we were there. We were greeted right as soon as we walked in, and the woman at the front was incredibly nice. As I mentioned earlier, we'd made reservations a while ago, but were met with a mostly empty restaurant. Apparently the night before had been insanely busy, but I digress. We were led to a table on their covered patio right next to a window overlooking the Thames. One thing we noticed immediately was how dark the dining area was... we were able to see each other, of course, but reading the menus became a bit difficult if they weren't angled into the surrounding patches of light just the right way. After a few minutes, our waitress stopped by to say hello and start us off with some water. We took a few minutes to decide on meals and drinks, but ended up trying their seasonal menu selection - three courses from a small list of items for £23 each. We wanted to get the most out of the experience, so decided to order different things from this special menu and share each dish. I started with the mussels, my main was the gnocchi, and dessert was a chocolate brownie. BF chose the beef brisket starter, pork belly dish for his main, and the same brownie for dessert. Our starters came out pretty quickly, and we were excited to share. Now I know I mentioned earlier that the lighting was poor, but after receiving our first course, we could REALLY tell just how bad it was. I'll be the first to admit that being able to see the presentation of the meals is one of the things that makes the food appetizing. We struggled to even get a hint of what his starter looked like when it was brought to the table. Overall, the starters were probably an average of 3/5 stars. The mussels were cooked well, and the sauce they were paired with was smooth and creamy. Super yummy dish. The brisket left much to be desired, though. While the meat itself was halfway palatable for a lump of cold meat, the dish was DOMINATED by the flavor of mustard. The small side paired with it was absolutely unpalatable. We finished the meat very slowly Next on the list were the main course dishes. We were starving by this point and ready for some real, hearty food to fill us up. It wasn't long before the plates came out, and I have to say that immediate presentation was decent. Bad choice. BF was served the pork belly with an apple purée and added a small side salad to his meal. I ordered gnocchi, which was mixed in with peppers and broccoli. The entire theme of this course was fat and garlic. His dish was extremely wet and full of fat; I'd say probably a 70/30 split between fat and actual meat... again.. yikes. The apple purée was kind of pretty to look at, but was completely dominated by what I can only think to describe as some weird vinegar flavor. He took probably two bites and wasn't able to stomach any more. Even his salad, easy as they are, just tasted like the greens had come straight from the garden without being washed and prepared. My gnocchi was unfortunately inedible, as well, due to the crazy amount of garlic in the dish. All I could taste was garlic... not gnocchi, not broccoli, not the little peppers, but garlic. I think I had about four of the little potato dough nubs and couldn't handle any more. Our waitress eventually came back to check in on us, and we had to ask for the check at that point. Neither one of us even thought that continuing the the three courses we ordered was a good idea based on how disappointed we were with everything else we ordered. Neither one of us are usually ones to speak up in restaurants about things like this, but this experience was unfortunately a super huge letdown. The only reason I've chosen to give two stars is solely based upon the fact that we were not charged for all the food we did not eat. We sincerely appreciated this effort to reconcile our experience, but will not be back to try again. Fingers crossed no one else has a similar experience to ours; perhaps things will improve in the future.

After a day of Royalty and Tea Parties we hailed a cab and headed over to The Narrow! We had never been here before but just looked up restaurants on the water and found this beauty! It was quite a ways from our hotel but was worth the drive for this beautiful setting! We didn't have a reservation so we started out with some drinks and appies at the bar until a table on the patio opened up! The service was great...we asked to order our food family style. They weren't sure what we meant by that but once explained they were very accommodating! We ordered a few mains and some sides to go with...sharing it all! This is such a fun way to sample more of the menu! The Bangers and Mash was very tasty. Had a fun leisurely evening of good food, drinks and much laughter at The Narrows.

Come with an appetite! Bank holiday menu was apparently a bit different from the usual menu but a GR venue does not disappoint! The dockside view alone is worth it & their selection of wines aren't too shab. If they offer any of the roasts that are not listed make sure to give them a try.

I've lived in the Limehouse/Canary Wharf area for three years now and finally made my way to The Narrow last weekend for what I thought would be a nice Saturday afternoon lunch. Before I say anything else, The Narrow is a beautiful pub. It's situated right on the Thames and has a gorgeous light and bright interior. You can see the Shard from the window and watch boats pass by - it's a very lovely place to sit on a sunny afternoon. Now, on to the food. This is where things started going south for me. I knew going into The Narrow that this was going to be pricier than your average pub (Gordon's got to make his money somehow). I was still a bit surprised, however, when I ordered a bowl of chowder for £7 and was presented with a tiny ramequin of cloudy salt water filled with celery. Let's just say I wouldn't recommend ordering the soup. In an attempt to eat somewhat healthily, I also ordered a 'side of greens.' What I got was yet another tiny ramequin of boiled kale. It wasn't seasoned. It wasn't even cut up! It was just gigantic rubbery leaves of kale. My boyfriend order the lamb, and while it was admittedly better than my cloudy water and leaves, it was as close to flavourless as lamb allows. The broth was really thin and the vegetables were bland. This is not what you'd expect for £18.50. Will I be back? Not for the food. I might come back next summer when the weather is nice to enjoy a pint by the river. I may even spring for a side of chips, but I definitely will not be ordering any more entrees.

Truffle Mac & cheese

I recommend making a reservation for a better view of the wharf. We walked in, so we sat in a back room. Great food though! The Mac & cheese was very rich. Fish was flaky and flavorful. Chips we nice and crispy on the outside, yet soft and well cooked on the inside. Expect to pay for a bottled still water. Good experience.

I have a picure of us at the Narrow I cant wait to upload! I live in the US and found the Narrow which was not too easy but well worth it. The staff treated us so well, good drinks, great atmosphere and good food. I love the view and the location at the banks of thames, wishing to go back to London this year and will absolutely return to the Narrow!

Ahhh...fish, chips, and mashed peas!

Back to the Pearl: there were picnic tables and benches IN THE STREET at which folk could have lunch, a drink, and a smoke. That's right. It's open air in the middle of the road. Puff away! My pals and I sat closer to the front of the place and had our bevvies: Meantime Stout. Aaaaaah! I love a good stout and a groovy cafe in the middle of seemingly nowhere. As of 2012, that 'nowhere' will be directly adjacent to an Olympic site. So, I guess, in a year the Hackney Pearl will be teeming with business. I say GO NOW before it becomes too terribly overcrowded. To be fair, we'd already eaten elsewhere before arriving at HP, so, although the food looked appetizing, I can barely remember the menu and need to go back with a hunger in my belly for a proper meal, and, of course, another pint of stout.

Reminded me a bit of Bushwick. The decor - very much of the area. Understated but classy. Comfy chairs! Which I never expect in such hipster places like this - you generally get a bench (which they do also have) or something industrial. Service - attentive and friendly without being OTT. Bread course - I love a bread course me, and this delivered big time. Fresh out of the oven with a delicious charry taste which was almost a little fishy smelling weirdly (keeping with the overall theme of the place). Grey mullet tartare - an explosion of flavour: the sauce - oh man. The fish was tender and perfectly seasoned. An incredibly well balanced plate of food - sour, umami and delicious, the yolk added a different texture. Crab crumpet - I had literal chills when I took the first bite. Not often that that happens. It fully lives up to the hype. Their flagship dish and an absolute steal at £16. The crumpet itself was perfect foil for the sweet, creamy brown crab and rarebit topping. Next level delicious. In my top 5 dishes of all time, swiftly followed by.... Curried hake - another in my top 5! The crunch of the crispy potato, the softness of the creamy succulent fish, offset with a zingy, slightly spicy katsu style curry sauce (which I wasn't expecting) which was thick and rich and perfect - an absolute fucking riot of flavour. There was plenty of sauce left so of course I used the remaining bread to mop it up - judge me if you will, frankly idgaf as it was fucking delicious. Peach Melba tart - what a finish! All going along very nicely until I get the crunchy, salty almond brittle in the middle - that's when the party got started boiiiiii! Turned what was already a lovely, creamy, fruity dessert into a world beater - adding crunch and a different depth of flavour. On drinks it was their summer special cocktail Cider Collins - an absolute buzz of a drink, perfect for summer. Zingy af, the cider really shone through but it felt like a traditional Collins. Total winner of a drink. This lunch will stay with me forever. Believe the hype with this place beautiful people!

And so - on a cold December night in 2022 - my husband and I ventured out to Hackney Wick (East London) and soon we entered the warm and spacious restaurant. The staff at Silo is super-friendly and we chatted with our waiter for a while about the menu and the zero-waste concept about the restaurant. The first time we came here we brought family from out of town and I got reservations the Friday before which made me a bit skeptical but i was so impressed. It's a bit difficult to find but once you do you're greeted outside and asked if you have a reservation. Inside there's pop art on the wall and a modern feel in the lounge. The view of the Olympic stadium is actually kind of shocking how close it feels. We were seated in the intimate dining area and there were only a few other tables full and some people came in trying to get a table and they were turned away as the tables were booked for later on. I liked that small feel of the restaurant which is something hard to find in London. They serve all English wines except for the champagne which I think is pretty cool. I had the smoked salmon and crab salad to start and the salmon was so delicious as they smoke them in house. For my main I had the filet with truffle dauphiniose potatoes and creamy celeriac mash. The filet was tender, the potatoes were rich and creamy and the mash tied it all together. For pudding, we shared the cheese board and they serve it with seeded crackers and chutneys. There isn't a choice for the cheese which is always hard because my husband isn't a fan of blue or goats cheese or basically soft cheeses in general but I was a happy bunny. On your way out you need to check out the view of all the salmon in the smoking process! The next time we came here on a double date as we had such a great experience the first time. This time I had the pate parfait with the hazelnut salad and it was creamy and the flavours paired perfectly. For the main, I had the turbot with clams and scallops and chorizo foam and everyone at the table was jealous of my food. It was absolutely delicious. We each had a dessert but all I can remember is the golden syrup sponge which is actually baked in the syrup tin, yum. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great and I can't wait to come here for brunch in the summer on the balcony over looking the canal and stadium.
