You can find a lot of local sports team merch here too. I picked up a couple of magnets and a WKRP sticker. For those not in the know, WKRP used to be an old sitcom from the late 70's-80's about a radio station in Cincinnati. The shop is located on the 2nd floor of the historic art deco style Carew Tower. This tower is also home to the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland. The interior although grand was sparsely occupied by businesses. Ghost town vibes for sure however the grand architecture within the building is worth walking around in. The only difficulty we had was finding parking. This shop is in the downtown area and parking spaces are hard to come by. My husband ended up driving around and picked me up when I finished shopping.

No signs, nothing, just abandoned space, you keep walking and then you're like well should we try going up these stairs? We finally found someone and asked how to find the gift shop. Up more stairs! So we went and it was really hot up there. I see another review from 2022 about it being hot so I guess they never did fix that AC :P anyway the guy was nice who worked there, friendly and I felt bad he has to sit in that hot store all day. We got our stuff and left. The little expedition made me think to just grab stuff in the airport on our way home from now on :P It's not only Cincinnati but lots of towns it can be hard to find a shop like this.

I walked in and got stared down by an employee at the front cash register. I attempted to walk over to the cost area and got cut off by an employee asking if I needed help and I said no. I continued to browse the coats and noticed two more workers off to the side watching me. As I continued to walk towards the men's coat section there was someone behind me again. At this point and time I decide to go to the hunting section. I continued to be followed. The guy that worked in the hunting department was actually very nice. I saw a rifle I wanted and some camo gear. I walked back to get the jackets I wanted then got followed once again. I just decided to leave. I will not be treated like a criminal or thief or racially profiled. Dick's missed out on a $500+ sale due to their ignorance! My sister went there and the same thing happened to her! Never giving this place business AGAIN!

One thing they pointed out to me was that the apparel wasn't sorted by item but by brand. For example, for my daughter's shorts I didn't go to the rack where I were presented with all their shorts. No, this was brand X's volleyball shorts. Oh, you want Brand Y's? They're over there. Brand Z, hike to that part of the store. Is this something retail stores do? Sort by brand instead of by item? Do people buy by brand and not leave their brand? And how am I to know how many brands are in the store? This system seems so incredibly....stupid. So I dropped $50 on two items of clothing that, to quote the great Gretchen Wilson "I can get the same damned thing at the Wal-mart store half priced". But I was in a hurry and needed the items ASAP. So I paid. Otherwise, skip this place.

I was still sporting my Schwinn mountain bike I had bought with my birthday money at the wise old age of 13, and it had developed a nicely crusted patina of rust on the chain, gears, cables, etc. But why buy a new bike a mere decade later? Why not fix this up? Well, because I have no tools, and I have no idea how. That's why. That's where MOBO comes in. They have tools, and they have knowhow. And they're nice, really really nice. 3 seasons out of the year, the yard outside the shop is full of all types: neighbor kids always, hardcore riders taking advantage of the tools, total newbs (like me) getting advice from the volunteer mechanics, some just hanging out. And the mechanics here are really excellent, they share their knowledge but don't show it off. Some types of bike people reek elitism, and it can be off-putting. I think that MOBO doesn't have this is extremely important to their greater mission. In addition to the shop and the volunteer mechanics, the co-op advocates for cycling and transit in Cincinnati. The welcome environment at the shop is consistent with the very non-elite message that everyone can ride. It just makes the experience. I think this is an amazing resource to have in the community, especially if you are just looking to get into riding like I was. I went from nothing to commuting 2-4 times a week for stretches this spring and summer. Now i'm so hooked, I'm building a bike with their help this winter.

I realized later that evening that I felt silly joining a bicycle co-op that I had to drive to in order to reach easily. Regardless of my limitations, Mobo has been proving itself as a great, locally operated non-profit for over a year now. If you are unfamiliar with Mobo, they are "a non-profit, volunteer-run collective dedicated to providing every member of the Tri-State area access to bicycles, maintenance, and education". I pulled up with my bicycle and my girlfriend stuffed into the back seat and our friend Christiana riding shotgun. The bike stayed in the car but the rest of us got a personalized tour from a cute girl with a belt made from bullet casings. We also ran into an avid biker we know from the local bars volunteering his time. During the tour we were shown the area where the bicycle frames are kept. It's well know that even with a good lock you can have your bicycle stolen and Christiana had lost her baby the autumn before. Down in the dark basement she squealed with excitement when she found the frame to her stolen bike and went into a general tirade about the scum that had certainly stolen it. What was really cool was she was able to ticket it so she could come back later and start rebuilding it. The co-op offers regular workshops, fundraisers and community rides. My only complaint is that it's not closer to my current residence.
