Bought a mattress here 4 years ago and it was only comfortable for about 2 years, until we moved and then it was no longer comfortable. I tried all types of toppers but nothing seemed to help. I contacted the store and was told it should of been moved in a box and that the warranty is not valid as a result. I was told If I wanted to replace the inside springs it would be $1200 and for each foam section it would be $800 plus shipping. Owner said that it probably got damaged during move. However the mattress was moved in the same manner it was delivered to me (wrapped in plastic), which may of not been done correctly by the delivery company they used. After paying soo much for this mattress I was hoping there would be some sort of warranty or at least support that could be offered that was not as much as buying a whole new mattress, but unfortunately that was not the case. Sadly, I will need to buy a new mattress since I can no longer sleep on this one. If you don't plan to move it's a great mattress, but word of warning... don't move it unless you put it in a very sturdy box, since it is very floppy.... read more

Best mattress I've ever owned. And I've had a lot of mattresses. I've had an air mattress, several mattresses from the typical stores around, another latex mattress from a different store, and a tempur-pedic. I could never find the support I wanted because what I finally realize now is that I want support and resilience. Memory foam collapses and becomes hard with impressions very quickly. I always felt like I was sleeping on a rock in a hole. Over five years ago we purchased a mattress from this store which is a component. It has a spring coil base, then a layer of latex and another layer of latex on top. We could pick the firmness of each of these components. It's perfect! We already had an adjustable base so our new mattress went on top of that. Let me tell you, I've never had a better mattress! It gives me the support I want but with some resilience (or bounce) so I'm not sleeping in a hard hole most mattresses end up developing after just a few short weeks. It's so cozy! We bought our current mattress and box springs from the Natural Mattress Store ten years ago. This year, it began to sag. We went to the store three days ago, spoke to the owner, Will, who had our original purchase on file. He told us exactly which mattress we had and said that we could replace the organic foam (not expensive), which zips into our mattress, and that would most likely fix the matter. The next day, our foam arrived, Julio checked the springs, which he said would last another ten years or so, and he replaced the foam. Our bed is now as good as new. This is the best bed and mattress set we have ever owned, so comfortable and organic. This is an excellent, ethical, environmentally friendly company. I can only partially recommend this store, based on my experience. It depends on what you're looking for. Husband and I bought our mattress last October. I started by calling the store in advance and explaining that we already have an existing adjustable base, and inquired if their mattresses would be compatible. I was told yes by the proprietor Will. This part is key. So we drove out from the East Bay to visit the showroom. We reiterated to Will that we were looking to buy a mattress for our adjustable base. He showed us around, was very friendly and professional, explained the features of each mattress, etc. We selected a mattress we liked (the "Enlightenment"), as well as a separate 3 inch topper ($1,900) and two pillows ($199 each). The mattress itself we have been very happy with so far. Very comfortable, no weird compression issues like we had with our Tempurpedics, no noxious chemical odors. The pillows are OK. They do tend to get easily misshapen and need to be reshaped daily, and they've developed some lumpiness. They still give good support and are reasonably comfortable, but I probably wouldn't buy them again, especially at that price. But contrary to what I was told on the phone, we later discovered after purchasing that our mattress is NOT really compatible with our adjustable base. It slides down during the night if the bed is raised, which affects the bedding (the sheets are more likely to pop off). At no point during our showroom visit were we told of this "slide" issue. Not loving that, but we've learned to live with it. However, when we first put the topper on top of the mattress and made the bed, we realized that the sheets did not fit well around both the topper and the mattress - and we have deep pocket sheets. It's possible Will had warned us of this, I can't remember. I do remember him telling us that the topper would add height, which might create an issue getting in and out of the bed. But that was not a problem, based on our showroom testing. But what he definitely did NOT warn us about was that the topper is absolutely not compatible with adjustable beds. The topper slides down horribly on the mattress throughout the night when the bed is raised. Much worse of a slide even than the mattress itself. By morning, it's positioned several inches down from the top of the mattress, and has to be re-positioned daily. That part we have discovered over time. Here's the kicker: we had actually realized the $1,900 topper was not going to work for us right away when we first put it on the new mattress - BEFORE we ever used it - just based on the sheets not fitting. So I assumed we could return for refund since it was still completely unused. I contacted Will and was told no - he doesn't provide refunds. He said this policy was printed on our receipt. I checked my receipt, couldn't find the verbiage, and after I texted him a screenshot of it, Will realized and admitted to me that I had not actually been given the complete receipt - I was missing the page with the return/exchange policy on it. However he still did not agree to a return. We had just spent over $8,000 total on bedding at his store. And now in August, we hate the "topper slide" issue so much that we're going to have to throw it away. So we've had to eat the $2,075 we spent on it (including 9.25% tax). And to even dispose of it, we'll have to cut it up first to avoid the additional "mattress disposal fee" charged by the city dump. So although we are pretty happy with the mattress itself so far (aside from the sliding issue on the adjustable base), the "topper" experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth. If you shop here, be VERY careful on what products you select. Their policy is only that they will EXCHANGE a mattress within the 90 day trial period. NO REFUNDS. It's on their website, but it's not located in a prominent place, and Will did not mention this policy either while we were shopping there, or while we were sitting at the desk for 10-15 minutes chatting with him as he processed our payment. I think that would have been the professional thing to do. Even better would have been to warn us that the topper would really not fare well on an adjustable bed. It probably needs a fabric covering with more traction on the bottom to better grip the mattress. read more

These mattresses are wonderful. Mine is working great after 12 years. I replaced the latex layer on top of the springs this month for the first time. The bed is like new! Although they are expensive up front, they are worth the money. They last a long time and don't off gas horrible smells. You can smell a slight smell of latex when the bed is new. Go to the showroom if you are curious about that smell. They are very customizable, so you can have the perfect bed after trying them out in the showroom. My parents have one where they have different levels of firmness on each side. They have replaced their latex too, one time in the last 14 years. The owner is friendly and helpful. I called him and ordered replacement latex. Delivery was excellent. Fast, exactly when they said they would come, and they had it to Sonoma county within a week of me ordering the new latex. These mattresses are fat friendly. I'm not a small person, and mine went a long time before the latex developed a significant low spot where I sleep. Replacing the latex solved the problem. There is not a dip in the springs, so the next latex makes it feel like a new bed. I'm looking forward to good sleep for years. read more

I am completely dissatisfied with the mattress I bought from this company. They did not tell me at the time I bought it that the components were subject to moving around. After sleeping on the bed for little over a month, the mattress listed to one side and became lopsided. When I complained about how the mattress was performing, I had to wait over a month, and when the appointed time came, they thought they were making a delivery to me. I asked them to take back the mattress because I am so dissatisfied, but all they offered to do was to come and glue the components together at a charge to me. In addition, I purchased an adjustable bed frame, and when it returns to a flat position, it creaks. There is no warranty from this terrible company. We are totally delighted with our mattress, which is locally-made, and our bed, which was made in Vermont. The firmness can be adjusted separately on the two sides, and we each got exactly what we want. Even better, they were willing to come out and swap out the foam if either of us needed a change. The delivery was right on time, they were happy to haul away the old bed for no extra charge, and the crew were very polite and careful. I have a bad back. I should start there. Blew L5/S1 about 16 years ago, had surgery, then blew L4/5 six years ago and they couldn't operate. So my back is an issue. Also played sports for decades and am a big guy, so at 53 things just hurt. In 2017 my girlfriend bought me the Serenity mattress. I went in and bought a frame for it. The owner was patient, professional and helpful. I left utterly pleased. But what about the mattress? Well, my back doesn't hurt in the morning. My sleep is deep. I long for my bed when I am away, k owing that my sleep when I get home will be phenomenal. I tell everyone about my mattress and how happy I am with it. My mom is not buying one for herself. Save your money and do not buy a Latex mattress from this poorly run Family owned business. If they say their mattresses have warranty's, don't believe them. I purchased a King Size Latex "Awareness" organic mattress (medium) 5 years ago, with a 7 year warranty, with a bed frame and spent $5000. After year 4 the mattress started to indent where you lay causing a lot of back pain while sleeping. The support beams from the frame were starting to bow from the heavy weight of a latex mattress. I contacted the store and the Father was more understanding and sent some workers out to replace one of the latex layers of our mattress. At least that was the impression he gave us. When the workers came out they measured the indentation and agreed there was 2 inches of dip. Although the son was in disbelief and decided to make a separate trip to check the mattress himself. When Steve, the son, entered our home he informed us he has PTSD and to not aggravate him. He stormed into our home, laid on our mattress, and then said everything is fine with the mattress and he absolutely will not warranty the mattress, he didn't even look at the bed frame. Wow, that was the worst customer experience I have ever had, especially coming from a small family owned business. After that experience, and being left with a mattress my husband and I cannot sleep on, not to mention how rudely we were treated, I feel as though I have PTSD from the whole experience. Steve you should probably not be working in Customer service with your condition that makes you feel as though you can treat people very disrespectfully even in their own home. I spent a lot of money (for me) to get an organic high quality mattress. Yes its comfortable, and I loved it, until I realized its 1-sided. A 1-sided mattress in the bay area??? We have fog, we have dampness, and yes, we sleep in the same place, and personally I like to rotate my mattress so I can air it out, and not always sleep in the same exact place every day, for a year, and another year....but thats exactly what you are supposed to do. I called and asked, "how do I flip my mattress, why does it look 1-sided, is there any way to rotate it?" Silence....then the response, "Our mattresses don't need to be rotated, they only need 1-side." Really??? We bought the Serenity mattress in 2016 and we love it. We moved recently, twice, and have had some issues with the structural integrity of the mattress. We called today to get advice on the layers, care/maintenance and to determine if there was anything that we could do from home to realign the layers. The person we spoke to on the phone started out as helpful but quickly jumped to the conclusion that we were calling for our money back; they began to lecture me about cost/value and how I was getting plenty of life out of the mattress considering it was 8yrs old. I interrupted the lecture and corrected him, telling him that we were not concerned about money just how to care for the product. He started acting defensive and hostile and wouldn't listen me. I asked to speak to someone else (sensing that the customer service was rapidly degrading) and then he turned up the volume on the lecture telling me that he was the owner, that I could "absolutely not" talk to anyone else and that he didn't have take abuse from me (at this point he is yelling at me). I purchased my king mattress two years ago. After 8 months, the mattress was hanging over the springs. I called and when they came they realized they put the wrong spring in. They did replace them, but after that the one side of the bed is sunken, you can feel the springs when laying in bed. I got a mattress topper, and the mattress still sags horribly in the middle. It looks like an old worn out mattress, and is no longer comfortable. When I called and asked to please get some help as i am still under warranty he told me I would have to pay $60 to have them come look at it. I know they will not do anything to remedy this, i know I got a bad mattress. I would not suggest purchasing from them. read more

Don't be fooled by the name! I bought a bed here and the more I look at it the more I see how flawed and how bad the craftsmanship are. The bed is heavy and akward to move, the latex is torn and stained in spots and the springs pop when you rollover. I had had a run of bad luck with mattresses from the usual companies. The cushy expensive pillow top mattress from Macy's ended up sagging on both sides with an uncomfortable ridge in the middle. Unfortunately the sag was just short of the amount covered by the warranty. Scared away by the pillow top, next I went for a firm, also expensive, mattress, top of the line from Simmons (so as to avoid the flattening out that inevitably happens with pillow tops). This one was so hard I had to get a mattress topper, which made the mattress altogether about 23" deep, too tall for my headboard. It looked ridiculous! I then had to go get a low profile frame to put the mattress set on. What a fiasco. After all that the bed was still too hard. About 6 months ago I decided to try bed shopping again. The regional sales manager happened to be at Sleep Train (Emeryville) and he admitted he could not guarantee that a comfy mattress would not sag and form hills and valleys. In fact, he pretty much guaranteed that it would. So, having heard the commercials on the radio for European Sleepworks, I headed over there one evening after work. (BTW, weekday hours are way too short. I barely had 30 minutes to check it out, so I had to go back on the weekend.) Out of all their mattresses, the softest version was the one for me. I was concerned, though, about the ridge down the middle caused by the two-sided slatted platform the mattress sits on. As a single person, I like to sleep all over my bed, not just on one side or the other. I also didn't like the way the sides of their mattresses seem to just give way under you. I read about the Natural Mattress Store here on Yelp, so I decided to check it out. Steve was able to point me to the right mattress within a matter of minutes. (I hemmed and hawed and had to try them all out, but he was right!) I ended up purchasing the Eco-Cloud Clarity Soft, along with a pair of super comfy all natural organic pillows. The mattress is soft and supportive at the same time. It sits on a regular box spring, and the sides are supported so you don't get that 'slip off the side' feeling when sitting on the edge. The mattress was delivered to my home by Steve's son Will and his two helpers a few days later, and I have never been happier with a bed! In fact, I loved the bed so much I went back and bought two more a few weeks later, so now I can sleep happily in any room in my house, and know that my family and guests will have the best sleep ever when they visit. Oh, and did I mention the 'white glove' delivery service? Will and his crew were so efficient and thoughtful. They seem to really care about the product. I can't say enough about the courtesy and care of the delivery team! It's been about six months and my bed is just as good as on the first day. There is absolutely no sag and there are no body impressions. (There is a 20-year non-prorated warranty so I feel very comfortable knowing if a problem arises Steve and Will stand behind their product!) read more

My husband and I were in the market for a new mattress for a few years before we found Keetsa and were sold on the price point and quality as soon as we tried one out. It's not organic but it is natural latex and comes rolled up inside a box about the size of a tall bar fridge. It fit into our mid size hatch-back and off we went! It was pretty painless. The Keetsa tea leaf mattress unrolled and filed with air immediately but it took a while to gas off. The manufacturer said it would take a few days but really the first two weeks were pretty stinky. I had to keep washing the bedding to get rid of the smell. It still smells now (four weeks later) but I got a mattress cover and that seems to have done the trick. Would I suggest this mattress? Absolutely, it's very comfortable but it might be best to let it air out completely before sleeping on it. read more

Stumbled upon this family-owned natural mattress company through various eco channels and were extra proud it's located in our backyard. Eco-Cloud is their proprietary brand of organic / natural mattresses. We ordered one of their more entry level mattresses, but had some customization done so we are able to modify it as necessary. The mattresses are put together in Southern California. Depending on the mattress series, various layers of natural fiber and individual spring coils are utilized for maximum comfort without feeling your neighbor roll around. Of course, full bedroom sets can also be ordered. They have a growing selection of various natural bed accessory items as well -- pillows especially. Variety of bed bases include wood platform, metal and motorized. They try to work with natural furniture companies wherever possible as well. I purchased my initial Vermont Furniture bed, nightstand and natural mattress from their Walnut Creek Store a year ago and loved the experience I had with Sharon. It was flawless. October 2018, I returned to purchase a bed, nightstand, and mattress for my guest bedroom. I worked with a newer gentleman who was filling in at the Walnut Creek store, he was nice and helpful but after a couple weeks with no call for delivery of the mattress and loaner frame I decided to call. Mike worked with me and apologized for the inconvenience. The salesman forgot to put it on the master calendar. Forgiven, mistakes happen. We scheduled for a Thursday I could take off work, they only deliver to my area on Thursdays and the morning of I received a phone call stating they have 0 loaner bed frames and will not be able to deliver. Frustrated the call was the morning of, and frustrated that yet another inconvenience and another day I would have to take off work, we rescheduled. I emailed the following Tuesday and was given confirmation that the "owners son" said they have loaner frames now and they would see me Thursday. How excited was I !? Thursday morning I received a call stating they don't have any loaner frames and would have to reschedule my delivery for another Thursday. Another Thursday I will have to take off work and pray they don't call me morning of to deny yet another delivery. As of today I have sent two emails and left a voicemail at the San Rafael store and yet to hear back, thus warranted a YELP review. Will I go back here again? More then likely not. Don't believe them on the warranty. Bought an expensive custom mattress from them several years ago and the structure is now falling apart. They sold us a 20 year warranty and now after a handful of years we have to go buy a new mattress. We asked them to replace the mattress and they refused even though it is obvious that it is totally lumpy, has divots and we are unable to sleep on it because it hurts our backs. The mattress was great for a few years and then just fell apart. Totally dishonest Update #1 Steve, nice try, we have sent you several emails, you kept asking for pictures since we live out of the area and you refused to accept every new set of pictures we sent you. You blatantly refused to accept that the latex has broken down and that the poor quality structure fell apart and the springs are now all different heights. Our backs were killing us! After two months of back and forth, with you and over 20 pictures sent in, we finally gave up, bought a new mattress and wrote this review. Update #2 "Kids jumping on the mattress"??? Lol, we don't even have kids so I guess it's just the former not the latter, your company makes poor quality mattresses, sells customers on your "warranty" and then refuses to honor your warranty when something goes wrong. Steve is a great guy, and very helpful. I went in to find a new bed, and was unsure of what the difference in feel, price, materials, and the foot-print would be between a bed here, and a local mattress chain. Needless to say, the list is long, and well in favor of the Natural Mattress selection and service. I purchased an Eastern King, Keetsa. It was one of the more expensive Keetsa's (even though they all felt nice) but I figure that sleep and the health benefits are worth it. When you buy a Keetsa, even a Eastern King, they come in a nice box that can fit in a hatchback of a car, and some larger car trunks. It comes in a cute little box, with wheels on it. Roll it into the room you want, pull it out, and lay on your bed frame. Then you cut the plastic on it, and it minutes the bed inflates to its true size and feel. It really is amazing how they can do that. It is so convenient, and creative. Gone are the days of white glove service for a hundred plus dollars for a nice mattress to be delivered. I have had a great night sleep, day after day, and I know that it has honestly changed my days into being more productive, and positive. I've not purchased a lot of mattresses in my life. God knows, I've slept in a few beds, but I've never had to inspect for purchase more than say, two, mattresses in my existence. Which can make buying a new mattress a little difficult, if not scary. I kind of knew what I wanted, the girl kind of knew what she wanted, and so we set out. We were very lucky to work with The Natural Mattress Store. Great selection to begin with, and very knowledgeable staff. Patient, they explained everything to us and even invited us to shop around and compare. We ended up back here and have been sleeping on a great mattress ever since. Win. read more

I shopped at the store that used to be in San Francisco. They sell beautiful products. But be careful before you buy--there is a 60-day test period for the mattress, and after that, even a very short time after that, they will not accommodate you. For me, the result, two years later, is severe pain necessitating purchase of a new mattress, plus having to find a home for the old one, which is in excellent condition since I weigh only 100 lbs. and sleep alone. read more
