I was greeted by Macy when beginning my first visit and stroll through store. She gave me a full tour of the huge showroom; which is elegantly sectioned into several vignettes of furniture levels and price points. This includes affordable starter furniture and the amazing discounted outlet in the back room, chock full of incredible quality deals. Nearly every curated item here is made in the USA! Most people know the quality is superior and the investment longevity is solid. No matter your budget I would encourage you to shop Sunrise. Macy also introduced me to Andrew, son of the woman who began this San Rafael institution. My other favorite thing here is the fact it is home to two cat mascots, really makes it truly a home store and speaks to the apparent compassion of this staff. When I decided to purchase new furniture, I went to Sunrise Home and sought Angle Dunkelberger's design expertise to help me choose pieces, colors, fabrics and styles. I am so glad I did! Angle came to our condo and asked all the right questions: How do you use this space? What furniture styles and colors do you like? Are there any pieces that you want to keep? (Yes, I had several family heirlooms that I wanted to fit in with the new furniture.) After that fact-finding exercise, he took measurements, so that the new furniture would fit into the space. When I went to visit him a week later at Sunrise Home, I was delighted by what he had chosen to show me. In a few words "he got me." Angle started by showing me an area rug that I loved. Then, we looked at a couch and chairs he thought I would like that blended with the color theme of the rug. He was conscious of my stated budget throughout and made the process incredibly easy. Sunrise Home specializes in US made furniture, and its showroom is immense. When the furniture arrived, nothing had a nasty chemical smell. Angle came with the delivery team to make sure everything was in order and went into the right place. We've been living with our new furniture for a few weeks now. I've been shopping at Sunrise for the last decade or so. I think the biggest misconception is that they only have expensive high end furniture. The reality of it is, they have furniture at every price point but since we are in Marin, a lot of the expensive stuff gets sold and is featured. I've furnished a small condo on a budget here to a single family home with a much larger budget. I've done window coverings and mattresses as well. Customer service is amazing with communication on order statuses, same day delivery sometimes and I've never had any issues with any of the pieces I've purchased but feel confident that if I did, Sunrise would make it right. I imagine if you're spending a lot of money you might have a better experience. We spent about $6,000 for bedroom furniture thinking we bought quality, but it was FAR from it. As soon as it was delivered we noticed dresser finish peeling off, marks that could not be cleaned, unbalanced drawers etc....It took MANY MONTHS to resolve, and in the end the replacement dresser chipped in the first week which we were told they do something about, but they didn't. Also, we were told in addition to swapping dressers we'd get 30% off what we kept, but that never happened. Each time an agreement was reached it took many emails to initiate follow through, and on the final drawer and 30% issue, they've ignored the last few emails. This place has the furniture to make your home look like an elegant hotel in Singapore. The place has 30,000 square feet of designer showrooms to inspire you. Its been open here in San Rafael for 30 years. I came in to return a fabric swatch for my boss and was helped by a very knowledgeable woman named, Naomi. They had gorgeous blinds and drapes, a whole section of rugs, and a team of designers. Naomi said they have different price points as well. If you like a certain couch or chair, they can customize with a different fabric too. I was really impressed with everything I saw. I think if you have a few statement pieces you could elevate everything else you had to create any kind of look. From the lamps to the fluffy blinds I was salivating over everything I saw. Be prepared to wait a long time for any furniture, run into issues with delivery and lack of communication. On 3/15 I had a professional design consultation. On 4/5 I purchased $20,000+ worth of furniture. I had an unusable sleeper (due to missing parts) delivered to my house on 5/16 that didn't get fixed until 45 days later. A table I ordered had a cracked leg after delivery which they replaced, thankfully. I would not purchase floor models or sight-unseen here. I ordered a "bar" that does not fit standard wine bottles. I was told it's difficult to get a refund for that ($3k) but after 4 conversations they refunded. On 7/5 after 4-months everything was in place and put together. They have a beautiful store and I liked the designer but it was hard to get answers and hear back from customer service promptly (within 3 days is what I'd expect). If I did this again I'd pay the $300 for the design consultation but think about buying pieces elsewhere. read more

I would highly recommend Ralf Runge at Sunrise Homes. Several years ago I was in the market for a dining room table. I searched all over the Bay Area looking for the right table. I held back going to Sunrise because I didn't want to pay their prices for what I was looking for. But Sunrise was the only place where I found a table I loved. In addition, I purchased eight chairs and a rug and a I love my completed dining room. Ralf helped me with picking the fabric for the chairs and selecting the rug. Since then, I have purchased a sofa, coffee table with side table, 2 leather chairs and a lamp for my living room. A month ago, I was looking for a rug for my living room. I looked at local stores and spent several hours looking online with no luck. So, back to Ralf I went. With his help, I was able to find a rug in a color I would not have picked for my room but which looks great and I got it at 60% off. Yes, they have some great sales. While I was there, I found some great kitchen chairs on sale and a kitchen table. Ralf will come to your house or you can bring photos and he just has a gift of putting things together that look warm and inviting for your home. I have a hard time making decisions and am not good at decorating but Ralf makes you feel comfortable and makes sure you are happy with your decision. read more

I worked with a woman Christina, an interior designer there, she was extremely thorough and fun to work with. They had fresh cookies and beverages too! Overall, good experience. What happened? This store used to be an adventure to shop in. Now it's an upscale branch of RH Modern. Cookie cutter, boring. It's lost its character and I don't even bother going anymore. That said I may be a design dinosaur in the bay area. This place is the clown car of furniture stores - from the outside seems like a tiny corner shop but walk in and it suddenly you're in a huge maze of a furniture store! They have a lot of very nice and very expensive furnature here. (Example: upholstered club chair, averages around $2,200.) The sales people are nice and helpful, but you may need to be pretty assertive to get one to pay attention to you if you're not dressed like you're about to drop $5k on a bedroom set. There are a lot of great displays as Mara P. points out, so it may be a good spot to go just to get some inspiration. Be sure to check out their "outlet" across the street - slightly cheaper, much smaller selection of returns and slightly damaged goods. Be forewarned that there are often a bunch of drunken hobos hanging out on that block. read more

I always feel as though I've walked into the pages of a magazine when I come here...love the decor and how they have it displayed. Can I just have all of THAT in my house? Expensive? Oh yes. Worth it? I purchased a sofa 4 years ago during one of their upholstery sale events and it still looks new...even with a dog and a child to wreak havic. So worth it! And I love that they support USA made products- bonus points. I have also found the staff to be nice without being pushy. Did I mention they have fresh-baked cookies? Yes, please. Tea with that? Sunrise has been a legend in my family since I was a little kid. When I was first out of school and got my first place, I ended up going to West Elm with my brother and buying all of this modern junk. A few months later, and the stuff breaking or coming apart I realized that you need to pay for quality. While I may not be made of money, I am a firm believer in buying less stuff and just getting the good stuff. Last year I purchased a gorgeous leather couch and a pair of wing back chairs that get compliments everytime that someone enters my house. I have found in the past that I saw a piece I wanted, but didn't see the fabric or material I wanted, but they were able to dig up some samples of the stuff not in stock and order it for me. My Dad owns a real estate firm, and he's used Annie and Sunrise to stage countless homes over the years, and they always seem to sell over asking so that can be attributed to Marin real estates insane prices, but clearly the staging pushes it over the top :) read more

The store looks tiny from the street but once inside you can easily spend hours going through each room finding treasures. The staff was most helpful and helped us find the perfect Stickley couch and console table to match our existing furniture. We also got a fantastic deal on a beautiful bird cage that we get compliments on daily. We also found the most incredible Italian coffee table ... There was no matching end table so Christy (I hope I got here name right) contacted the maker and was able to get the craftsman to make a custom matching end table for us too! We have been getting weekly updates on the ETA of the furniture and couldn't be happier with the service we are receiving. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I purchase a 2 piece section in mid-August 2020. I was told 8-10 weeks for delivery which seemed reasonable given it was a pandemic. The couch was finally delivered in mid-December and was BROKEN. I am STILL WAITING for the replacement piece. It has now been 9 months and I don't have the couch I ordered. They are unresponsive and have offered nothing but platitudes. I really wanted to support a local business, rather than buy from a bigger chain, but I won't shop here again. read more

OVER PRICED! Don't even consider this store, hire an interior decorator (you get everything at wholesale price) with a 10% markup and design fee, much cheaper than this place. My designer took me to the Las Vegas Furniture Mart, absolutely incredible (hundreds of choices) basically everything Market has to show, overwhelming. In the end, I spent half going with a private designer. Sunrise wanted 12,000 for a rug, same rug in a LA showroom 6,000. I don't mind spending, but this is absolutely ridiculous. read more

Buyer beware!!! I decided to buy a new couch and chose American Leather sleeper sectional, and went to them to purchase it. A very young girl named Christina was my sales person, and knew the furniture line a bit, but gave me incorrect information, and then started pushing to close the sale over the next few days. My intuition told me to go get competitive quotes from the other retailers that carry this line locally, and two others came in ~ $5,000 less than her quote - for the exact same items! This item will still be ~ $15,000, but I am very glad that I listened to my gut feelings and took the additional time to do my research. However, now it is 2 weeks later, and it would have been much better and easier for me if she had just given me a competitive quote to start with, instead of telling me when she first met me that I was one of their best customers and she would give me their highest discount! I've not ever been to this store previously, and went because they were the closest local retailer that carried this line of furniture. read more

Nice stuff inside, but service and quality is questionable. We hade curtains made that were just awful. They also put in shades and did a half assed job. We also bought a bed frame from them and had them put it together - we just bought a bigger bed and took it apart and they shot the screws threw the headboard and put it against the wall so we could not see it. read more

I wish I read the Yelp reviews BEFORE I placed my custom order for bar stools 8 weeks ago. We received a call from the store indicating that our order arrived and we can pick the barstools up at anytime. About 15 minutes later I received another call indicating that one of the four bar stools had a crack and they have ordered a replacement, however, we would have to wait another 8 weeks. We just returned from the store WITHOUT our barstools. After many of the same questions asking the name of the person that called us about the order, did we call the store OR did the store call us, what warehouse did they say are barstools were in..... Bottom line - after a 30 minute wait, they could not locate the bar stools and most importantly the customer service was terrible. Luckily we were able to get a refund for our deposit. read more

Andrew and Lorie at Sunrise Home have been wonderful to work with. I recently purchased a large dining table with built in leaves on sale, and we had a misunderstanding about the way the extensions pulled out. I broke my back this year, so having the correct mechanism was very important to me. When Andrew realized the mistake, he went out of his way to make sure I received a replacement dining table that would work for my back (even to the point of giving me a newer one than the one I purchased on sale). I bought all my best furniture at Sunrise almost 25 years ago, and this experience convinced me to keep working with them on another round of furniture for my new house (I moved from the one we furnished before). I really like this place because the furniture is so nice. I can't give it 5-stars because the furniture is far out of my price range. However, they do have the discount section at the back of the store, and I have seen some interesting pieces there that are reasonably priced. Also, you need to ask the staff about things that may be in your price range. This is not the place to seek out a $600 sofa, however; but you may be able to find one in the $1500 range - and that's the low end. All in all, they have many beautiful pieces, worth going into for ideas, and when you have the money to afford it. read more

While they were 'Johnny-on-the-Spot' to take and process the sale, when there was an issue with the paint coming off the furniture, the manager avoided me, didn't return my call or follow up after agreeing to contact the manufacturer. The surface of the dresser bubbled up like acid had been poured on it with just an ounce of water with essential oil spilled on it for just under 5 minutes when I noticed it. I've had painted surfaces at work survive oil bottles dripping on it and not react like that. After my third call she agreed to take care of it, but then again - no call back. It's been two months since I made them aware of the problem, and I"m just tired of chasing them to do the right thing. read more

From what I've seen, this is one of the best furniture stores in the Bay Area. Their selection is phenomenal, of very high quality furniture - especially for living rooms and dining rooms. I would characterize the majority of their collection on the floor as contemporary or classic, whereas, say, Room and Board, in San Francisco, tends to be more urban/modern. As you can tell, my preference is Sunrise. The owner @Sunrise, Annie, is gracious and knowledgeable, and takes a personal interest to ensure good outcomes for her clients. I ran into a problem with a purchase, and she (and her team) totally stepped up to help. The design professionals (sales folks) in the store are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, without being pushy, and have a good eye for design. Stores like Sunrise aren't competing on price, to be sure, but they have phenomenal choices on the floor, a huge variety of catalogs to look at. And several times a year, they offer great sales. The frequent cookies and occasional cupcakes they have on hand are a bit of a puzzle; all the staff look trim; i don't know how they resist! read more

Ok, it all looked good on paper to me, it was time to pony up some big buckos for some real furniture with some style and substance, but I wanted something a little funkier than, say, Stickley up the road...Sunrise seemed to fit the bill just fine. Not particularly trendy, and many of the pieces remind you of grandma's place, but that's precisely the point - now that you're a single-digit millionaire in Marin and need to furnish that farmhouse or craftsman-style 2BR in the MV with any modicum of style, you may feel compelled to get yer butt over to Sunrise right quick. Now, in my measly little world, if yer gonna pony up that kind of bread, one would assume you're most likely working with a designer anyway...so at this point, why not get the benefits of your designer's connections in the city (i.e. SF mart, the Design Center, etc.) and bypass this whole scene? I've discovered I'm not the only one to experience Sunrise's obfuscation regarding where their stuff is manufactured, the huge markup on their private-label stuff, and the ultra-snide attitudes in general of many on their staff, who are far from experts on furniture, sales, or how to treat a customer. Between myself, my neighbors, and other professionals who have set aside considerable amounts of cash to drop on furnishing and re-furnishing some of our labors of love in Marin, the Best of Marin award doesn't mean squat when Sunrise can rest assured that we've taken our business elsewhere. read more

I had a terrible customer service experience, considering the very expensive recliner we purchased. After purchasing, they told us they do not deliver to my area. A friend offered to pick it up. I specifically told Sunrise Home to make sure that the chair was well wrapped so the fine leather would not be damaged, and to give instructions on how to adjust and use this recliner. In short, that did not happen. The chair was not padded or wrapped and got here with scratches and it took several emails before instructions on the chair was sent to us. The manager (I think is also the owner) was terrible and basically did not take any responsibility and did not even respond to our question on what we can do to fix the scratches and make it better. They have nice furnitures, but terrible customer service, and no long-term concern or support once you buy. read more

Despite telling the saleslady who assaulted us that we were only looking and would let her know if we needed help, she followed us around, listening to our conversations, butting in with comments, and keeping a close eye on us. The selection is truly wonderful,and most of their staff are truly lovely, but the follow through after you placed your order is not good at all. The hardware necessary to use one of my piece was wrong and when I rightly asked why they didn't check the hardware before they delivered it, I was treated to a lineage of someone blaming someone else. I don't need excuses. I just need things to be made right. One piece has yet to be delivered, but the accounting office certainly was ready to process the finally payment. I find their lack of communication to be really a problem - especially between their own colleagues. It shouldn't be the customers job to coordinate their own departments. Nor to confirm and check on deliveries. I will not use them again. read more

There was a bait and switch incident, too, that resulted in doubling of a pricey and somewhat boring sofa and fabric.
