We were thrilled to have our wedding at the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa! Meeting the Director of Catering & Events was a game-changer, as she shared exclusive vendor information with us. We knew we needed flowers, and there were six florists to choose from. But we wanted to support our local community in Riverside, and The Natural of Things was a local favorite, owned by a mother and daughter. I reached out to the flower shop and spoke with Mandy. After sending her our inspiration wedding flower arrangement photos she was on it with the photos. My wedding was on December 20, 2025, which is winter, so I asked Mandy about spring flowers for my bouquets. I wanted peonies, roses, protea, ranunculus, hanging amaranthus, astilbe, hypericum, snapdragons, antique carnations, variegated ti leaf, nagi leaf, and camellia leaf. All the bouquets would be tied with a magenta silk ribbon, and I would have handles for the maid of honor and bridesmaids. For the groom, best man, groomsmen, and ushers, I wanted like lapel boutonnieres made with coordinating florals and botanicals, tied with a magenta silk ribbon handle. I asked Mandy for a lot, and she assured me she'd do her best to create the flowers for me. Throughout the process, Mandy kept us in the loop with clear communication. As the wedding date approached, she emailed us the proposal for our review. It was an impressive proposal, detailing the expected average weather temperature: 68 degrees (high) and 46 degrees (low) in December, along with the floral lists. It was so detailed and organized, it was amazing! On our wedding day, we arranged for the flowers to be delivered to our home. We met with Mandy and Dawn who were absolutely wonderful! They took the time to show us how to pin the lapel boutonnieres on our jackets. Plus, they were so careful to keep all the flowers in a separate vase of water. Dawn explained how I should hold my bouquets, and I have to say, my bouquets were heavy with all the beautiful magenta flowers and their lovely fragrance. When I handed out the flowers to my maid-of-honor and bridesmaids, they couldn't believe how beautiful they were--and the groom, best man, groomsmen, and ushers were just as impressed. So impressed with The Nature of Things! I wanted to send flowers to my friend and former boss who started her new job today. I knew I was asking a lot to have the arrangement delivered the same day (plus I called after lunch, giving them even less time), but was pleasantly surprised when I was told that they could make it happen! Customer service was excellent as they shared what type of flowers and colors they had on hand, said they could execute a nice arrangement with my budget and offered to enclose a handwritten note. I had so many changes of heart with my color palette and was worried I would complicate things with my indecisiveness, but they did not make me feel that way at all. The saddest bouquet I have ever seen! It had none of the florals that were agreed upon... some ugly dying roses and CARNATIONS... the only floral that was kept in my bouquet as promised was my orchids and they were worn and soft and drooping and hanging with NO LIFE in them! It was truthfully the most hideous bouquet I have ever seen. I picked it up and petals just fell everywhere. The colors were wrong (colors and florals I specifically said to avoid in my bouquet) and I couldn't have been more disheartened! They were over an hour late from the promised delivery time and rushed in and out while I was getting my make up done... then had to come back because they started with just a ball of the same ugly (orange a color i said I hated and is my least favorite color) flower with no dimension... they came back with some flowers that were browning and some pink fern to try and add dimension.... "reworked" it into a mess ball with a fern sticking strait out at you... my photographer and other vendors were in shock and they were surprised and impressed with how calm I was being regarding the whole thing... I ran to the restroom and when I came out they had rushed out without talking to me or confirming I was okay... THEY KNEW 100% that they had not delivered and when I mentioned what was discussed and what was mentioned NOT to be in my bouquet I got yelled at and snapped at and bombarded with lies and excuses! They tried to blame me for their dying sad flowers (that weren't even what I ordered) and tried to claim I "approved" the work that they did... I was polite and courteous but please don't mistake that for me pretending something is what it is not!! You know it's horrible when all of your vendors (make up artist, hair stylist, photographer, and videographer ALL commented at different times about how sad and horrible the flowers were) we didn't even use the hideous boutonniere it had giant balls sticking off of it and was horrible colors and was not Nice! Luckily I have a really chill go with the flow personality so I didn't let it completely ruin my big day but I am incredibly disheartened and sad! Florals were a really important thing for me. Then the shady behavior and the aggressive attitude I was shown was really uncalled for and unfortunate! I didn't deserve that on top of an ugly dead bouquet. Just own up to the fact that something happened and you couldn't get my florals or just didn't and don't yell at me that the flowers are fresh... everyone with eyes commented on how sad and dying they were. I don't care how recently you got them, grocery stores have firmer nicer orchids always then the thin, floppy orchid with holes in the petals I was delivered. Anyways... I want to move past this sad experience but I will always dread it as it impacted a huge part of my big day and my photos! Brides etc... BEWARE... and know that they will lie through their teeth to defend themselves even when they have to ground to stand on. BEST OF LUCK! - A Very Underwhelmed and Disappointed Bride P.s. Where do I begin! Dawn and Mandy are an incredible mother-daughter duo and were simply a pleasure to work with. My mother, who is an avid gardener and loves few things in the world more than flowers, fell in love with the Nature of Things and their unique wild/natural style. We were very particular about wanting to capture this style for my 160-person wedding in lieu of nice round bouquets (which I believe they can do perfectly well too, if you want), and they definitely understood the assignment!! Over the course of several months, Dawn had many calls with me, my mom, and the two of us together - she is very busy but made herself entirely available to us and listened with limitless patience to our constantly evolving vision and requests. Dawn helped us with two very different wedding events with very different color pallets; we were so blown away by the bouquets she constructed at the first event that we even re-used them for a 3rd event, which we hadn't planned to do. You'll find it very difficult to throw away her beautiful creations until they are fully wilted. Although waste is unavoidable, I really wanted to try to reduce it by re-purposing the ceremony flowers for the reception ballroom. Dawn and her team took on this challenge with zero qualms or complaints and executed perfectly with limited time to turn over and transfer the arrangements into the ballroom. They even helped with odd requests like moving the sweetheart table for our grand entrance and stuffing 75 petal tossing bags. Dawn is very responsive over text, highly organized, and she uses a convenient online platform for quotes/proposals rather than cumbersome attachments that you have to go fishing for. I had many vendors that did an amazing job at my wedding but where communication and organization was a bit of a challenge - I have to say the Nature of Things was one of my EASIEST vendors to work with, which is much appreciated when you are juggling a dozen+ vendors! I never intended on writing such a detailed and thorough review especially because this has been so mentally traumatic for me. However after seeing what dawn responded to another bride, I felt compelled to give credit where credit is due. I did not read the response to this brides review in detail, but I did see she accused her of being a liar and any defensive response toward a client / bride whom dawn claims to understand " when every single detail counts. When you feel overwhelmed with emotions and expectations. When hundreds of things must be done. We know how much this upcoming event means to you. And we are happy to to join in and do out press to make these special moment perfect because those moments last forever." Well, sure did their pest. I'm going to be candid about how much I paid and my experience since I have an obligation to future brides to write about my experience and what I am stating is only facts. I will let the bride use their best judgment based on what they see from this review. With that being said, my husband and I gave this business a fair chance to act to resolve this issue but we were met with excuses even when giving a fair notice that we will be writing a review on the matter. Dawn and Mandy are very aware of other brides being upset. I will not be reading any response from this vendor and I would advise they refrain from responding directly to this review and retract their response to the previous bride as their response and lack of accountability, speaks volumes and much more about how this business carries themselves. I was raised in Riverside but now reside in Oregon. Having a citrus element in my wedding arrangement was the most important thing to me because of my upbringing. I chose kumquats because they resemble good fortune and also highlight my Asian American heritage. I was quoted by other vendors a similar price to that of Nature of Things and most vendors were happy to accommodate what I was asking and even roses for a similar price but choosing this business seemed like a no brainier at the time for several reasons. A brick and mortar located in the heart of downtown Riverside with and ample amount of photos to support their skill and a well established website. When browsing their yelp page, I immediately saw the photo that featured Pomegranates and since they have already have experience working with fruit in arrangements my search was done. I submitted my questionnaire to receive a proposal from this business on August 30th, 2021. I received a response from Dawn on September 2nd about getting my complete proposal on September 6th. 4 days after the proposed date (September 10th) , I received not even a follow up or mention that my proposal was not forgotten. I messaged Dawn and shrugged it off since I had ample time anyway. September 13th, 7 days after the proposed date, I received a response and on the 14th was sent the proposal. With no correspondence whatsoever to me about the unexpected wait from 6th-13th. While needing extra time is understandable, knowing that you had a deadline to get a quote to a client you would think would be a top priority and at the very least communication about the expected timeframe taking longer rather then leaving the client left on read for one week after the proposed date and then being given a vague excuse about being busy is unprofessional. I should have taken this as a red flag. It wasn't long after this proposal was sent that the contract was signed, maybe a week. Giving Dawn and Mandy ample time- roughly 7 months timeframe until my wedding April 24th, 2022. Surely a business located downtown in the city of citrus will have no issues supplying a simple bouquet of ranunculus and kumquats. When I arrived home and visited the historic citrus park with family, my fiancé and I contemplating buying a bag of kumquats sold by a street vendor as decor on the tables.
