TL:DR - An emotionally moving experience that immersed the senses. Located South of Ktown and in the same building as Lab Rat Escape Room. There is street parking on the adjacent streets. Before I begin to gush about how much I love this experience, I think its important to note that this is not an escape room. There are puzzle elements but it is first and foremost a story. And that story is fucking good! I had done the Lab Rat escape room the previous year and it is still the best escape room I have ever done. I wanted to see what else Hatch Escapes offered and the Nest sounded great, so I went with that. My wife and I showed up on a cool Sunday morning and we're unsure of what to expect. We were lead to the 5th floor of the building and down a row of storage units. We were handed a flashlight, a tape deck, and then were guided into one. What would ensue for the next 2 hours was a beautiful story of promise, romance, dreams, heartbreak, and the memories of a world that might have existed. I was honestly not ready for this. I am not a crier in the slightest and found myself tearing up as I progressed through the rooms. The final room took all my will to not just break down bawling. When we walked back out into the sun, I felt a renewed sense of appreciation for the people in my life. If you're on the fence about going, just do it. You will have a great time and a moving experience. read more

It was my friend's birthday and I wanted to surprise him with something fun especially since he loves games and puzzles. Luckily there was openings on Wednesday evening. The Nest says online that 2 to 4 can sign up at once, but honestly after going through it, I felt two of us was perfect, as noted in another review, some spaces are tight and you do have to duck under some areas. I don't want to give any secrets away or spoil anything, because you want to arrive and immerse yourself in the experience. Let's just say I didn't understand the other reviews about that it can make you feel emotional, until halfway through, something got me in the feels, and then at the very end, just when you think it's over, one more thing got all my emotions hit (in a good way) and I didn't want to leave. It was so special. The Nest is similar to an escape room as you are still solving some puzzles, but it's without pressure and everything builds upon itself as you go. I definitely recommend The Nest. I know it's strange but, I almost want to go back and do it again alone, just to absorb it in all over again. read more

Visited a week or two ago for my boyfriends birthday! We've never done an escape room (which this is not, though i do think it was a nice intro to the mechanics of puzzling in that way). He enjoys puzzling & story based games like silent hill & resident evil so I thought this could be somewhat adjacent to a real live discovery experience (without the horror & gore) & we had a great time! Won't say much else, but the story was moving & the puzzling was so fun that I think we want to jump into an escape room next! Also, the gal that helped us (Dec 6th evening) was fantastic. I overheard a bit of a conversation with another staff member that lead me to believe she was semi-new, & she did wonderfully. This is what The Nest provides. If you've played games like "Gone Home" or "What Remains of Edith Finch", this is a narrative experience similar to these titles. The difference is that the space is real. Armed with only the provided flashlight and audio cassette recorder, you explore the storage unit of Josie, the previous owner of the space who recently passed away. The expertise in the production and the care of audience members is absolutely stellar. The house manager is able to answer your questions and make sure you're prepared to experience the piece. Things to know: The ticket is a reservation in the space exclusively for you and (if you choose) a friend. No random people will be booked with you. I will signal the slightest warning of claustrophobic spaces. There are some spaces that require ducking down into smaller spaces, but you won't feel trapped. read more

One of the best immersive experiences in LA, The Nest blends escape room mechanics with narrative aspects telling the story of a stranger who left behind a storage unit. In a very structured yet organic way, the story unfolds while you (and one additional guest, should you choose to bring one with you) look through the items left behind in the storage unit while playing audio tape diary entries left behind. Like the prior review stated, the best way to describe this experience is a real-life "Gone Home" where discovering a new piece or unlocking an item advances a very well put-together story. I do have to admit that it's a pretty high price for the experience. I do get that the amazing production value does come at a price, but at over $100, it's just a bit much for a single person to experience. Definitely bring a friend--both to offset the cost and to help navigate through the space. But the one thing that did leave a sour taste with me was the optional Pup Scout add-on. For almost an additional $50, it was just not worth it and did not add anything to the story despite being billed as a pre-show + post-show add-on. The pre-show consisted of a key and auction letter mailed to you (not spoilers, as it was noted when opting for this add-on), but both items were just a bit redundant as a digital copy of the letter was included in the confirmation email and the key was not used at all. (After asking if the key was supposed to fit somewhere in the experience, Scout Expedition Co. on Instagram DM explained that it was to have been used to open the unit, but the staff member on hand had mistakenly given me another key [identical to the souvenir key mailed] to start the experience off.) As for the post show, it's a very brief 3-5 minute non-story postscript where the pin and paper Scout Membership Card can be picked up. It was a nice touch, but just not for that much $$$. If you'd like to take a trip back to your childhood and get the chance to be curious, imaginative and do a little exploring, hunting and crawling, this is for you. I really love immersive theatre and this was a wonderful experience. So creative and fun. I sometimes get claustrophobic but didn't at all during my stay. I enjoyed exploring The Nest. Using escape room mechanics, this immersive audio play was engaging, fun, sad - ultimately touching. Expect a tight space - there is a reason why it's limited to 2 people at a time - mostly simple, yet fun and effective puzzles, and a fair amount of exploring. The experience is structured and linear, so there was no sense of missing something. The underscoring, hazy smoke effect and general ambience are all well done. I was left curious as to why the authors chose to tell this story, but I confess to being moved by the sentiment that we are in part our memories. I recommend, The Nest. read more

Everything felt cohesive, exciting, and new. There was even one reveal that caused me to audibly gasp with delight. While The Nest may feel like the most beautiful escape room you have ever done, it's not an escape room. As we discussed with them previously, there is no win condition; this is not a story to rush through. Take your time, explore the space, uncover the nuances that defined Josie's life. There are plenty of secrets to be found. If you take it slowly, you will find some beautiful details about her life. It's truly a journey to be felt--not to be won. Scout Expedition Co. has created a memorable experience with heart and a set to match. They played to their strengths and they proved (again) that they know how to create a meaningful atmosphere. This is by far one of the most imaginative and engaging immersive theatre experiences I've been able to attend. The artists behind The NEST have meticulously crafted an innovative work of art that pulls you deep into an emotional story from moment one. It's hard to put into words what a wonderful time we had at The Nest, but l'll try. The Nest is one of the most charming, heartbreaking, and innovative storytelling devices I have ever experienced. You can tell that the creators have lots of experience packing a lot of punch into a small space. I look forward to future projects from Scout Expedition Co as well as a possible revisit for The Nest; your opinion of the narrative changes depending on how you interact with the environment. I highly HIGHLY recommend The Nest. It's a great date night experience with someone you're getting to know, or a fun exploration with someone you're very close to. You can also try it alone and come away with a completely new perspective. Some recommendations for your trip: Parking in the area isn't a major issue since it's a bit off the main street in Los Feliz, though I would recommend arriving early to try and get a street spot that doesn't require a meter or a lot. Somewhere between escape room, immersive theater, and art installation, it is -- and this word gets thrown around a lot, but it's true here -- a truly UNIQUE experience. People who are intrigued by immersive theater but are nervous that it will be too intense will love this gentle, nuanced, and endlessly clever production. Scout Expedition Co. manages to bring charm and a homespun feeling to their work here. They are a company to watch, with a pedigree to die for -- spanning Disney to Delusion. The use of space is enchanting, and the story is meticulously unfolded, with ingenious use of props, lighting, music, and voice. I highly recommended attending with a friend, as the ticket allows. Some tasks would likely be a little challenging alone. You will value a second set of eyes. This show has a big challenge cut out for it: to gain an audience for a relatively "uncategorizable" production. So far, it has found its people. Don't worry what to call it...just expect to be transported into a totally believable and moving poetic story, crafted with simple materials and great skill. read more
