But on this occasion I picked up powdered spices I was out of Ginger Powder and man, I'm coming here for certain spices as they have an Indian Food area and the prices are banging as in LOW! Then I was passing by their Kimchi refrigerated cooler and I was like it's nearly all gone hmmm that means people must like it. So I grabbed a container! I usually get my Kimchi from Costco, but not anymore. After eating their Kimchee there's just no comparison. If you're into Asian and Indian foods I recommend coming here. read more

We actually don't come here enough. To be honest I think we venture here once a year as they are the only ones in town either authentic mu shu wraps that we use every Xmas for our Traditional Peking Duck dinner. They actually have very good prices on spices too. Much better than Sagaya or box grocery stores. The best they offer is homemade Kimchi. Oh so good and I need to remind myself go more often to at least get that kimchee. read more

Went looking for Kimbap and the reviews lead me here! It did not disappoint and was super fresh and tasty. I came at about 10:30am and they still had a lot of fresh food in stock. :) Cute aunty at the register to welcome us and answer any questions kindly. Very good service! The shop was clean and quiet and not overwhelming. Easy to browse and look around in. There were a lot of beverages and snacks. Mainly Korean but they had some Indian frozen foods and spices too! Didn't try the kimchi but it looked delicious and made with love. Various servings sizes too. I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in town! read more

I wanted to add something to my previous reviews that I failed to mention. This store is OUSTANDING when you're looking for bulk spices and seeds. At Christmas when I'm making bulk batches of cookies and other items that use unusual, typically expensive spices and seeds, I check here first. I buy HUGE BAGS of cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, sesame seeds, etc much cheaper than anywhere else in Anchorage. I save about $100 by doing my shopping for these items here, but as always, check the expiration dates on anything you buy here before purchasing. read more

It's a great place for spices, sauces, and noodles. It's a great place for nearly anything/everything to cook foods from the continent of Asia. Korean mini supermarket. It has a good variety of Korean groceries and produce. Vegetables look pretty fresh to me. They aso have kimchi and other Korean ban chan kind of food. They also have a whole aisle of Indian groceries including the spices and different types of powder. The ladies who work there are super friendly. This place filled with Korean goodies. I was so excited, I literally walked around the store three times. They even sell Korean sushi here! Lots of snacks and meats that you won't find at your typical Asian store. They sell a lot the side dishes you see at the restaurant too. Great place to pick up some lunch to go! I haven't been that excited about a grocery store since the huge Korean store in Sacramento, CA. New Central Market is my go to spot for any and all Asian cuisine ingredient needs. They have a variety of different groceries here. This business is owned by a very nice couple that are happy to answer any questions about any of their products. They have a plentiful size of Asian candies in stock. This is one of the only businesses I've known in town to have boba for bubble tea in stock on a consistent basis. If you're looking to have an anime night, and are looking for snacks, I suggest shopping here. Their Korean sushi, they have on display, is the yummiest, & best deal in town. Great selection for the space of Asian specialties along with more common grocery store items. Prices run the gambit of good deals to not terribly out of whack. My only real complaint is the checkout process is not terribly efficient and while there is supposed to be a dedicated line area, it can be more of a who throws their goods at the cashier next kind of system. read more

New Central Market has some nice things you can't find anywhere else around town. I go there specifically for their kimbap or japchae and the 99 cent Korean face masks. They also have a great selection of bottled drinks, kimchi, banchan, and other goodies. The store is a bit overcrowded and it can be difficult to move through the narrow aisles. And being Alaska, this is more expensive than most Asian markets you would find in the U.S. Also, there's a $10 minimum purchase required to use a credit card. The woman at the register was a bit rude during my last visit. When I went to the register, she was picking apart some plant and didn't immediately stop and move everything. The only thing she said to me was "Approved, thank you" when I was paying. I was waiting for the message to remove my card but I guess they don't have that and/or she was trying to rush me out since there was a Korean woman behind me. I try not to take that personally since it seems to be a cultural thing, but some kind of greeting or acknowledgement when I went to the register would have been nice. That aside, I like this place when I want a more affordable alternative to a Korean restaurant. read more

This place is the closest we have to an Indian store we have in Anchorage. The store is run by some lovely Korean(I think) ladies and have a lot of stuff that Indians might want. They also have Chinese, Japanese and Korean stuff here. Meats, Snacks, grains, vegetables, utensils...they have it all - be in Indian, Chinese or Korean. We found "Maggi" noodles here which is like a total Indian brand of noodles and were so happy. They also have a lot of authentic Indian snacks and biscuits here too. Green leaves(https://www.bbc.com/food/curry_leaves), which is used in a lot of Indian cooking is also available here-frozen and vacuum packed - a bit pricey but hey it's Alaska, atleast they have it here. Every time I walk into this store, I find something interesting and so it's one of my Fav stores and I enjoy accompanying my wife whenever she decides to shop here. This market used to be focused on Korean food but they have expanded soooooo much. I really love coming to this super well stocked store. The homemade kimchee from The New Central Market makes my heart feel happiness. There is a wide selection of Indian cuisine ingredients. When I shop here there so many good things to cook! I would recommend asking the staff for single serving products if you are traveling; there is a wide selection available for Alaskan tourists. Being an authentic ukulele-strumming part-Hawaiian, the freezer section dedicated solely to island food caught my eye. Poi in both 1 and 3 pound sizes, S & S saimin, Rendondo's Portuguese sausage, Manapua, Kalua pig, and Zippy's foodstuff were welcoming sights. Always love stopping by here to see what new stuff they have in stock, and have never been disappointed. Some of the snack food items can be a little pricy (I paid 6.99 for a package of mini Kit Kats- though keeping in mind I would have paid more + shipping to find them online) but that is understandable considering they have to ship everything up here. Where else can you listen to WWII era Korean pop music along with today's korean pop hits while you shop for banana milk and kim chi? That's right, NOWHERE. They've managed to cram a lot of items into the space they have, and it's quite immaculate and a nice place all around. The kim chi here is a lot better than Oriental Market(which we only buy if there's no time to make it at home because it's so time-consuming and people don't seem to realize that and are saddened when we tell them we can't sell them any because we don't even get to eat our own kimchi) though I normally shop there and not here. I'm not sure if this place is as well-known as Oriental Market, but it's just as good if not better. NOTE: They also sell home-made traditional red bean rice cakes produced in the back kitchen - the kind that resembles a casserole and has a crumbled red bean coating on top. Pretty neat. read more

If you're looking for popular Asian fare, definitely drop in and you'll find something you'll like. However, always check the expiration date before purchasing, as I found a few items that were past the date. All of the ice creams I got here were freezer-burnt, so that put an extra damper on my experience. The ladies who work here were a bit rude, and they obviously didn't know I could understand Korean. Hold your nose and dive into New Central Market, where you can get Asian ingredients ranging from Indian to Japanese. I come here often when I'm making an Asian meal, but I have to say it has underwhelmed me the last few times. I came in planning to make homemade mandu or dumplings and couldn't find dumpling wrappers. Even Carrs has dumpling wrappers. The Kim Chi is good and the Indian ingredients are surprisingly some of my favorite. It's a good little grocery store if you're making an Asian feast, but it may be a supplementary stop on your way to a complete meal. read more

Looking for local goodies from Hawaii this is the place to go. Always have fresh and the owner will usually bring in special items if you ask. Go early to get some Korean banchans. The Kimbap is one of my faves. But you have to go early they well put quick. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ask them for recipes they'll help you make authentic Korean dishes. And the absolute number thing you must get is her homemade kimchee!!! The regular kimchee, the radish is amazing but my all time favorite is the green onion or maybe it's chives I'm not sure. The best hands down. My family from Hawaii always buys hers to take home. Now that's something when you're coming from Hawaii to Alaska to bring kimchee home. This place Is a fabulous little find. We were recommended to go here and next door to VIP. You will walk in here and you will not know what to do. You will instantaneously be a five year old in a candy shop. There is so much to discover. Fresh fruits, enoki, oyster mushrooms, bok choi, fresh meets, tiny and cute quail eggs, an array or frozen fish, an array or rice, spices, noodles, teas, ginsen, lychee flavored goodies.... On the non food part, you can find home utensils, tea makers, rice makers, dishes, pots ( really big pots too) and on the non Korean, Japanese ( they have tons of Japanese stuff too) An entire Indian aisle... With curry galore, and chutneys to Blow your mind away. And that is just to scratch the surface. I can spend days dabbing thru the different things. And if you are hungry there are plenty of ready to eat treats..like fresh cakes and fish cakes and more. The lady at the counter is extremely nice. She greets you with a smile and for New Years she gives you a little gift to go. Nice touch. Yup I shall return!! read more

We were visiting in Alaska several years ago and The New Central Market was recomended to us. We picked out Salmon and other things we liked and they Shipped it home for us. It arrived the next day and my Children put it in the freezer and as soon as we arrived home a week later we had a Feast. It was so good. read more

This place sold me expired fermented soybean paste that was supposed to be trashed 8 months ago. I received my full refund when one of the ladies (not the owner) unapologetically gave me it. Visited this store again and had a wonderful experience at the checkout counter this time. Mrs. Kim was very kind and helpful. She asked me what I was making with the things I purchased and recommended a better sauce for me. She also gave me a big calendar full of asian recipes. The gimbap here is SO GOOD. There was a good selection of other snacks, Korean small dishes (relishes, pickles, flavored fish, etc) on top of fresh produce, dry ingredients, mixes, drinks...for those of you who know Ranch 99, it's like if Ranch 99 was run by Korean people and crammed into a store the size of your bedroom. I liked it a lot. There was a shy-looking man stocking shelves who noticed me eyeing the selection of mochi and slyly told me which one was his favorite. Only downside is that things are kinda pricey, but I'm new in town and that might just be an Alaska thing. (Single mochi were $2 each, gimbap $4 for one roll, 12 oz can of thai iced tea was just over $2.) read more
