Our waiter was attentive throughout the meal and I ordered the following: -fish and chips (4/5): beautifully cooked w crispy batter and glistening fish but they forgot that final coating of salt that ties the whole meal together. I added salt and it definitely elevated the dish but this is a pretty significant oversight so I'm rating the dish based on what was presented to me. The chips were thick, crispy and well seasoned and the tartare sauce was tasty and peas interesting and good. Overall, solid fish and chips but I'm hopeful I can find better in the UK. -highland sling (4.25/5) : a refreshing and fruity raspberry drink but nothing memorable restaurant. -sticky toffee pudding (3/5): as soon as the dish came out, I knew it was dry. 'Sticky' is literally in the description and this pudding was not that. The flavor was decent but this was a disappointing end to the meal. Overall, Forgan's has a Beautiful walkway entrance with flowers and plants, great service and serves decent food.

Tonight is the first night of graduation week in St. Andrews. Families are celebrating their graduates. They are looking for a memorable meal to mark the occasion. Having a negative experience can have the opposite effect. The Steak Barn provided just the underwhelming experience tonight. Fortunately five others in a seven person party enjoyed their food. The worst part of the meal was the flat iron steak. The cut was under done, even when I sent it back. The cut was chewy and tough, not what I expected from 20 gbp steak (~$30). Management needs to step in a control quality and provide more training to their young staff. Maybe they just had a bad night. It happens. Having a bad night on a special occasion is less forgivable.

It was Father's Day and my dad's more of a steak-on-the-bbq kinda guy than fine dining, so I did some research and found this place. Less than a 10-minute drive from the touristy bustle of St Andrews, it seemed ideal for our lunch stop. The wait for a table for 4 at the Steak House was 45 minutes, which we agreed to and happily wandered around the farm shop to kill time. After we were seated, however, the REAL waiting game began. The menu is simple, with basically 4 different cuts of steak available and a burger option, so it didn't take us long to decide we'd all go for rib eye steaks. It took the server 10 minutes to come back and take our orders, and another 15 minutes after that for our drinks to arrive. That wasn't the worst part... our meals (nothing fancy - 4 grilled steaks on wooden boards with chips) took another HOUR after that!! Nobody checked on us while we were waiting to apologise for the delay, or ask if we wanted to order more drinks. We sat there with empty glasses, having nursed our beers as long as humanly possible. In summary, we arrived at 12:45pm, seated by 1:30pm and weren't served our meals until 3pm. It was absolutely ridiculous and unfortunately I just didn't feel that the management/staff did enough to make up for it to warrant a return trip for me.
