Went to see Marty big Dog Mercer play. What a cool place to visit, have some good drinks, and relax.

The Drifter may be the coolest bar experience I've had in Chicago. Hidden behind one of the city's…read moreoldest bars, it feels like you've accidentally stumbled into a secret society that happens to serve outstanding cocktails. The atmosphere is incredible--dark, intimate, and just mysterious enough to make you wonder if you've entered the wrong door (you haven't). The real surprise was the entertainment. At some point, a stage appeared in a place I could have sworn did not contain a stage five minutes earlier. The first performer delivered a gymnastics-inspired routine that completely defied both physics and common sense. Let's just say flexibility was involved, and leave it at that. The final act was equally impressive--a dancer who clearly knew exactly what she was doing and owned every second of the performance. The whole vaudeville-meets-speakeasy vibe was unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. The staff deserves special recognition. They were fun, friendly, and remarkably understanding. My partner managed to break a glass during the evening, and not only did they handle it with grace, they somehow avoided making her feel embarrassed about it. Considering she also misplaced several other items throughout the night, their patience should probably qualify them for some sort of hospitality award. The drinks were perfectly made, the prices were refreshingly reasonable for a place this unique, and the entire experience felt effortlessly cool. Chicago has no shortage of great bars, but The Drifter is an experience. Come for the cocktails, stay for the surprise performances, and leave wondering where the stage came from--and whether your partner still has possession of all her belongings.

The "speakeasy" appeal was interesting, but the drinks were underwhelming. It has a cozy and sneaky…read morevibe with the dungeon-feel and a projected screen. However, the loud music was a downer. I tried the "sun's out guns out". It's supposed to be bourbon and ginger beer based drink. But the overt sweetness numbs any other sense of taste. Wait was manageable.

When you first walk in, there is the bar with comfy seating at the bar and lounge area. The concert was downstairs so staff guides you where to go when coming in. Concert was fantastic and pricing was excellent for all what we got that night. The mood setting is nice downstairs for a concert. I had a lemondrop from the bar which was really good. Karaoke was on a school night. A DJ controls the Karaoke selections using Karafun. There were about 8 of us there. The DJ was playing good music in between if you wanted to take the mic and sing. Our group individually sang a few songs. It would be nice to have more of an enthusiastic audience, that is what we are used to at other venues. All in all, this is a great spot. Staff is super friendly, especially the female bar attendant on the main floor. I wished they served food here but you can order food for delivery to eat inside. Thanks Copper Still!

I have been wanting to try this distillery ever since I saw a segment on them on one of the local…read moreTV stations. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around lunch time. They have a few parking spaces in the front of the building with a larger lot in the rear. It was not too crowded and we were seated immediately. Our server Michaela was very friendly and suggested a few food items for my wife which were GF. I started with the House Old Fashion and my wife had the Bee's Knees. Both were very good and cost 10.00 each. For lunch I tried their Pecan Whiskey BBQ wings. 5 wings cost 10.00. They were good size and very tasty but I didn't taste any of the Pecan Whiskey flavor. My wife had the Barbacoa Tacos which were filled with braised beef. She could only eat 2 of them so I had the third taco. Flavorful but I would have preferred more salsa or a dipping sauce. I wanted to try their Drop Dead Bourbon separately so I had a small tasting. I loved it so much I bought a bottle to bring home. Cost was 60.00. The history of this distillery dates back to 1857 and is one of Illinois' oldest standing distillerys and was once Al Capones largest bootlegging facility during prohibition. I would love to go back and try a few more of their hand crafted cocktails and one of their signature burgers.

Awkward service. There was a private gathering in the main room, so we were in the back area of the bar. I didn't mind the server's schtick, but some other did. Before we finished our second round of drinks, while fully planning on ordering one more round, our bill was brought to us. The server then never returned to take the check. So we felt rushed out despite our whole section being empty and no one waiting for a table.
