I came to The NOW for my birthday and had my first deep tissue enhancement with Nathaniel V., and it was honestly the best experience. He was amazing. He found and worked out knots in my body I didn't even know existed or thought muscles could hold tension in. I felt so much more relaxed and grounded afterward. I really appreciated the added touch of breathing in the essential oils at the start and within the middle of the session. It helped me settle in and be present. I also loved that I got to talk through the areas I wanted to focus on before we started, which made the whole experience feel personalized and intentional especially since I deal with hyper-mobility. I was unable to book any same day appointments so I decided to call instead. Surprisingly, they had an availability for a 50 minute massage so I happily accepted and picked the newest option called The Jet Lag with deep tissue massage. The front desk ladies were so sweet and provided me with tons of great cocktail bar recommendations. As for the massage, I did not get the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask and moisturizer as advertised on the website... I paid extra for the deep tissue and didn't really feel like there's any targeted focus on the deep layers of my neck and shoulders as requested. Highly recommend knowing what exactly it is that you're paying for and to bring it up when paying for the service. I also did not like how front desk verbally asks you how much you're going tip. It makes me uncomfortable when I have to call out a dollar value for all the people in the lobby to hear. read more

My friend turned me on to this place and after having my first experience here, I will definitely be back. The vibe is totally Tulum with regards to the decor and overall feeling you get once they pull the curtain back and you enter the space. They do not have private rooms rather something akin to private yurts. Although you are in an open space, it is really quiet as everyone respects the ambiance. I did not know who to go to, so I decided on Chloe after reading a lot of reviews that mentioned her name. I chose a swedish/deep tissue combo that was executed perfectly. I've always found The Now in other locations to be a warm friendly place with a great massage however this was not my experience at this location. The front desk was not friendly. When I asked if I could pay with cash she seemed annoyed "We don't generally take cash." When I told the masseuse I love a little heavier pressure on my upper back but the rest of my body is just normal pressure she looked at me hastily and said "Well you didn't pay for deep tissue so that's not what we are doing. I do recommend cupping." I took her recommendation on the cupping even though at that point I wanted to just leave I was so uncomfortable. She went out of her way to give me very light massage seemingly on purpose to prove a point. There was zero pressure. What a waste of money. She did spend a little time after going over my tension so that was at least nice. And I got a same day appt. read more

I had an excellent massage here and would definitely go again. The prices are reasonable, and the only downside is there is no shower, though there are nice bathrooms. The atmosphere is really calming, and it was quiet despite the massage rooms only separated by curtains rather than individual rooms. They have white noise machines to block out noise. It's still a spa-like atmosphere and the massage therapist I had gave me a pretty deep tissue Swedish massage even without an add-on. I felt like I was floating out of there. Booking options were great. Sunday evenings are hard to find massage appointments. I had to call to adjust the online booking and the person was great about communicating. They also reach out by text, if you have an aversion to speaking on the phone. Check in is painless. You fill out a form on an ipad. I like that there's no talking unless it's to let your masseuse know that it's too much pressure or whatever; but make sure to whisper! There aren't rooms, just your massage bed separated by thick cloth but looks super relaxing. So if there's a client in the room next to you, you can sorta hear stuff, even though there are white noise machines all around. I don't know why people plan couples massages and want to be in the same room, it's not like you can see them the whole time or talk to them...anyways. My masseuse was great. i felt so relaxed aftwards. I added on the gua sha and reallly felt my jaw line relaxing from that. She also gave me some tips to relax my upper back and neck muscles. I noticed that this add on cut into my 50 minute massage while my boyfriend's scalp add-on was in addition to his 50 minutes. So i think that should be clarified. I've been to this massage place in la about a dozen times and have even come to this location in austin prior - always a great experience. This last experience was extremely disappointing. My masseuse put no pressure and then when I asked for medium pressure, she said it would be a deep tissue and cost more (btw pressure has never been an issue the dozen times I've been). She then proceeded to ruin my back with her elbows for 20 minutes even though I told her to go softer. She went from a level 1 to a 10 when I asked for middle of the road pressure. I almost walked out. What really made this experience terrible is that she berated me afterwards saying I'm wound so tight because I'm "probably type A." She told me I should consider other avenues because I'm so high strung. She said that her technique is standard, and considering I've been to the now a ton, she is incorrect. They then proceeded to upcharge me. Didn't acknowledge that this was a terrible experience. It seems that they are trying to squeeze money out of anyone coming here and lowering the quality. I've never walked out of a massage more stressed than walking in. If this is what quality I can expect moving forward, I would not recommend the now. read more

I also got a deep tissue massage and the Therapist focused on the 2 specific areas I asked them to. Be sure to ask over the phone for somebody that does deep tissue if that's what you're wanting or for somebody who does Swedish if that's also what you're wanting. Therapists all specialize in different things or like to do different things: if you get someone who hates to do deep tissue massage you won't get a deep tissue massage: it's simple : Keep in mind The Healer is the energy balancing session so there's really not a lot of hands-on portions in this one ---as it is energy work. (I was reading the details of the menu while I was waiting for my instructor to start yoga.) Meh, slightly cheaper than other places but I guess you get what you pay for. I've been a member for several months and have extra credits I need to use before I cancel. I primarily picked the location since it's close to my home and was slightly less expensive than other near by areas. So hopefully it gets better before my credits are used up. The quality of massage and approach wildly varies. I had massage away membership for years and it was way better value and consistency. Here I've have some with no scalp massage and some with what felt like 30 minutes of just scalp massage. Every time is a different person, so I assume high turn over and they can't find good people. My most recent massage I asked to turn the table warmer to low and heard 3 or 4 clicks. They went from the highest setting to completely off. Towards the end I got cold and was going to say something but they always want you to super whisper and she was working on my feet for a very long time and I knew if I asked if it was just completely off I'd get reprimanded for not whispering but the massage area is just a bunch of sheets hanging between beds and you can't give feedback. Beyond that pressure, etc isn't remotely comparable. TDLR; The massage quality and technique is wildly inconsistent, and the setup prohibits you from asking for them to change without getting yelled at for talking, and you only save like $5 for these inconveniences. read more

I discovered The NOW when I was visiting Denver, and while that location wasn't able to accommodate me as a walk-in, I was super impressed by the facility and the staff, and very excited to learn that there was a location in my hometown of Austin to try. Unfortunately, pretty much everything about my experience at the S. Lamar location was disappointing and underwhelming. First, I was unpleasantly surprised to find out that the Deep Tissue Add On only covers two areas of your body, of your choosing. This little detail is not actually specified anywhere on the website or on the menu in the spa, I only first learned of it from my masseuse as we were prepping for my massage. It smacks a bit of false advertising to me, and I did not think what I received was ultimately worth the price of the add on. Moving on to the massage itself, while my masseuse was very sweet, I found the massage as a whole to be quite underwhelming. I've had dozens and dozens of massages of varying styles over the course of my life, and this was one of the lightest pressure Swedish massages I've ever received. The areas I specified for my Deep Tissue Add On did receive a decent amount of pressure (though I would hesitate to actually label it deep tissue), but the pressure everywhere else on my body was so light as to not have any therapeutic value. As other reviews have stated, there is zero opportunity to give feedback or ask for something different, as they don't seem to even want you to whisper in the area where the massages are actually taking place. However, I really liked the idea of the membership, and the ambiance is quite lovely, so I was willing to try my luck again with a different masseuse. But my experience at check out sealed that coffin shut tight. Try and stick with me here, cause it makes zero sense to me either - there was a sign at the front desk advertising that you would receive a $20 gift card for every $100 gift card purchased. Which tracks. Lots of spas run holiday specials like this, the idea being give a gift and get a little something for yourself in return. So I decided to buy 2 80 min massages as gifts for friends, at $140 a pop, with the idea being that I'd use the extra $40 try a different masseuse some other time. After going through the entire process of purchasing everything, I was told that the extra $40 could not be put on a separate gift card for me. Which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, I mean you're a service-based business and I'm not asking for anything crazy, plus your sign literally says I get a $20 gift card, not that it would be added on to the $100. But whatever. I inwardly roll my eyes and opt to purchase 2 50 min massages instead for $105 a pop, and figure the extra $20 will make it so my friends don't have to cover gratuity. THEN I'm told no I can't do that either... I have to purchase exactly $100 to get the extra $20. Uhh...what? I am literally trying to throw money and business at you, and you're telling me no!! I was willing to come back and try your establishment again, AND send two new customers your way, and all you had to do was accommodate me TRYING TO GIVE YOU MORE MONEY. But instead, I wasted 30 minutes, walked away empty handed, and will not be returning ever again. Truly, truly shaking my head on this one... TLDR; The massage quality and pressure was so light as to not even be therapeutic, and the manager went out of her way to not accommodate me, even when I was trying to give them more money, more business, and a second chance. Don't waste *your* time and money, there's much better massages to be had in Austin for only a slightly higher price. read more

Prior to the start of my massage I spoke Sage, he listened and allowed me to explain my problem areas and let me know that he will occasionally ask me about pressure. As he opened the door to the massage area, I was instantly in shock! The ambiance was a place that anyone would love. I had been going here regularly since 2022 (started monthly massages during my pregnancy) and had an awesome female therapist named Jessica that was great. Post pregnancy, after she left, I tried 3 other therapists and they were just kind of so-so and definitely not worth the money. I left each time feeling disappointed. My last visit was the WORST massage I'd ever had anywhere and honestly, I don't think it was a female therapist like I had requested, but I couldn't tell with their mask on. It made me pretty uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend this place based on my last combined 3 experiences with 3 different therapists, especially when spending over $200 on a massage. read more
