The chips were very crisp and the fish was fresh. The curry was mildly spiced. We meet a couple from England. The man in the couple did an internship at the Old Toad years ago. When I went there was no bad smell at all (it actually had no smell). (Added another star for that) General food was okay nothing special but one thing that was not the best was the ribs and corn (the ribs were cold and not warm or ANYTHING, it seemed that it was microwaved as well as the corn and french fries, I also had the chicken pattie it smelled as if it was bought breaded and not made from scratch it also was microwaved. ( did not add stars for that) Food seemed overpriced for what it was. The staff was really nice actually no problems with staff at all. The waitresses even asked if I needed anything extra (which they should in general) added a star for that. If you want to eat some where where you are really hungry I don't recommend due to it being overpriced and not made well.

The decor is very British pub-like (lots of British memorabilia). Charming if you like that kind of stuff. I had the Salmon Boxty ($14.99). I thought that salmon, cream sauce and sun-dried tomatoes sounded like an interesting combination. The combination tasted not so much interesting, but rather odd. It was edible but I would not order it again. The Boxty came with a salad which was ok. Others at the table had the Steak and Kidney Pie, Ashton Chicken and the Grilled Salmon Dinner. They liked their meals better than I liked mine. I did notice on the menu that they had Rarebit. I love Welsh Rarebit and I rarely (haha, pun intended) see this on the menu anywhere in Ottawa. I regret not ordering it while I was there. Service was competent. It looks like they have lots of regulars. Servers seemed more friendly with the regulars than us non-locals. I am not a beer drinker so the fact that this is a brew pub makes no difference to me, but my husband enjoyed trying their beer. I think this would be a good place to go if you live in Ashton or happen to be driving through. I personally would not make a special trip to go back though.

Not an overabundance of wait-staff in this place. On the down-side: it was so busy in here! Such a popular place, even on a Wednesday evening - full to the rafters! You couldn't hear yourself think! And it was so H O T in there! The flies were having a party! On the up-side: our group of about 15 people was part of the problem: loud, and hungry and thirsty!
