We decided to try out a new to us restaurant for lunch today. The Old Farm Cafe piqued our interest. My sister placed our orders at the counter & we chose a table near the wall. The woman taking the order did not tell us how the system works - leaving us puzzling as we sat at the table. My sister went up after we waited awhile, & asked. It appears some items were ready & she was going to bring it to us after everything was ready. The food: I ordered the 3 pc chicken tenders with honey mustard dipping sauce & the "loaded" ( ) tater tots. The tenders were good - crispy, not greasy, tender, not dried out. The breading was slightly salty. I liked the dipping sauce. The tater tots came & the first 3 I tried were not even the slightest bit warm. I saw a few clumps of what I think was thin melted orange cheese with I guess thin bacon crumbles. The most off putting thing about the potatoes was an odd unpleasant taste which I attribute to whatever oil they were cooked or coated in. Whatever it was left a chemical kind of taste in my mouth. On a different note, while the decor is charming, the chairs are uncomfortable. Altogether it was a disappointing experience. My sister spoke to the manager, after we finished, and he offered a replacement for the potatoes but she declined. This place is absolutely magical! You feel like you are transported to a farm house with sweeping orchestral scores. There's even an animatronic owl (who appeared to be broke during our visit). It took awhile to receive our drinks and food. Maybe like 30-40 mins which seems a lot for this type of place but when we finally received it everything tasted great! Definitely an experience more than a cafe-- the ambiance and environment is so whimsical and cute with the forest aesthetic. The decor is hand painted and it feels like being on a theatre set. Very sad to report that I was very disappointed with the old farm cafe. We were so ready to love this place and it just sadly fell short. First - the prices are outrageous. I spent over 30 dollars on a BLT, a side of macaroni and cheese, and a cupcake. Realistically that is the price of a meal at a sit down restaurant. Which this place is not. The BLT was not very good, the bread was way too toasted, it just crumbled apart. And we are pretty sure that the plastic lining of the Mac and cheese cup was melting into the macaroni. It smelled and tasted like chemicals. The staff was really nice but I simply can not afford to come back here. Ambiance was good. We were 3 people and had 2 breakfast wraps, one standard and one with meat, the French toast sticks and shared an order of tots. The food was fresh, hot, delicious and delivered to our table, the coffee and Chai latte were served warm, not too hot to drink. Stopped this morning after running errands and it was a fun, pleasant and tasty visit. Can't wait for my next visit- and I won't wait long. My husband had his beloved cappuccino and I my standard Hot Chai Tea Latte. They correctly name their place Old Farm Cafe and Dining "Experience", because it was totally a wholesome experience sitting in the cafe. From the outside, the windows are all covered up with plates so we were a bit skeptical at first, but once you go in, we were captive . It honestly feels like we went into Disneyland or Universal Studio. The people who work there were very nice to us. The coffee was good to be honest. The latte was very good, it became my go-to coffee in Rochester. The cappuccino was also good, I'm just sad they did not use a mug for it and make some latte art with it... As a fan of themed experiences who has been known to engage in the occasional work-from-Disney World trip, I was excited to read about The Old Farm Cafe in the D&C. It was everything I hoped it would be. As a themed experience, the details are fantastic. As soon as you walk in, it feels and sounds like nighttime. It's the same vibes you get at The Blue Bayou in Disneyland or inside the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot. Even the bathroom is themed! It's a great combination of hand painted scenes and practical themey objects, like the porch where performances take place or a water feature. There's also an animatronic owl. I hope to one day learn that the owl has a name and a back story. Surely it would be enough if it were merely an excellent theme, but the food is good, too. It would have been easy to do typical Rochester fare of hot dogs and wings, but their menu is varied and modern. Lots of healthy options, and the theming carries through to the food and drinks. Both times I've visited (about 10am), I was the only customer when I arrived, but others joined later. I really hope they're able to maintain staying opened during non-show hours because it's a peaceful and inspiring place to get some work done and have breakfast. This cafe is definitely different from other cafes I have gone. It is more ranchy and somewhat Amazon sensation type cafe to me. It's not very dim in the cafe but it's very relaxing and enjoy the drinks. Their drinks were good! Impressive! Their service was great and very welcoming when I first came to the register to make some decisions on food and drinks. I asked them for dairy free options and they were very nice by showing me cartons to choose for my drink. I appreciate their efforts and definitely want to go back for sure! A group of us went for a special event : Drag me out to Brunch. The entertainment was enjoyable. For the money spent for a brunch special event we expected the food buffet to be better? There was a fruit bowl which was probably the best part of the buffet. In addition to that there were eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and a quinoa fruit dish as well. The potatoes were dry, and the bacon was tough. The sausage was ok, along with the eggs. If we wanted coffee we had to pay additional for that, and the brunch ticket included a mimosa, which was decent. So, we bought coffee and treats from the Cafe, which were pretty tasty. As this was a special event brunch they weren't making anything off their regular menu, so my guess those items would be much better than the buffet brunch. Went for a late breakfast last week. I'd been looking forward to trying this place. The woman at the counter was unfriendly and made us feel rushed, though there was no one else there. I came here for a craft vendor fair. Ample parking. Decorated in a creative and lively manner. Good size menu for food and drink. There was no cover charge and I got to enjoy live music and I walked around to see all the vendors. The food and my drink were delicious from the cafe , however the wait was long. I understand due to capacity of people attending the craft fair but going forward I would recommend a number system so customers know how far out they are from receiving their order. I was too afraid to walk far from the counter in case I couldn't hear my order called due to the live band playing. It took over an hour to get my egg sandwich. I wanted to love this place because I appreciate the musical theater concept behind it. I can picture it being a fun setting for the current Rocky Horror musical currently performed ... with drinks and snacks fitting ok on the small tables ... but this did not work for us at a recent lunch. When I entered first, I was witness to an argument happening between a man and woman who I believe may have been cleaning staff. Neither welcomed me right there at the front door, and kept on arguing over the correct way to do something. The woman over at the counter was nice and explained about looking at the menu and then ordering at the counter. So I set about finding a table for our book club. Because they serve menu items of various sizes, I was expecting normal-sized tables. That was not the case. So I rearranged a grouping of tables and chairs that were scrambled about the room, only to then find a small lake of what appeared to be beer on the floor next to our chairs. So I got up and regrouped in another location. Four of us ordered various smoothies, which were all pretty good. Two of us ordered bagels that didn't have much taste. One ordered a sausage pizza that had to be reheated due to raw dough, but she liked it. Another ordered some kind of breakfast pizza that was hard to figure out and not very appetizing. We were told to listen for the chickens every half hour (don't recall hearing any), and advised that the owl currently wasn't working. It was all just a weird vibe in a dim atmosphere with only four other people in the restaurant during our 90 minutes.
