The first time I went there it was with my friend Cod and the bread and buttery spread was delicious. So delicious I could not stop eating it and I wanted more. The calamari was pretty satisfying too. Not too crunchy. The second time I went with my friend that loves 1980s music and he ordered a lasagna and it showed up on a moon dish and it was watery and mushy and I am not sure he liked it. He said the chicken Parmesan was good last time though. The bread served at the beginning was fresh but not as pleasant, same feeling for the buttery spread. My spinach dip was enjoyable though but the bread squares with Parmesan salt was too salty and it made my brain fast. The mozzarella cheese triangles were perfect though. The tortellini was absolutely delicious and arrived warm and fresh. All of our meals were perfectly prepared and still hot when they got to our door. Went to The Old Spaghetti Factory on Wednesday for a birthday lunch with family. Decided to have the Braised Beef Dip as just had lasagna a few days earlier. This will go down as the worst beef dip I have ever had. The hamburger bun had about 3 tablespoons of greasy meat topped with a tablespoon of garlic Apollo which was quite greasy. Managed to get down 2 bites and had to fill myself with the fries which were nice and golden brown and I was able to use the dip from the sandwich. Our service girl was great, very bubboy, friendly and very accommodating. The tip I left was definitely for her, not the meal. the bench seat was aLao very uncomfortable. Decided to go again to eat with some friends after the Pride Parade Walk, we expected it to be busy so we didn't mind waiting for a while if we had to. We were seated in a more private area along with other groups, it was a brighter are compared to the inner dinning area so I quite liked it! I ordered a Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo, Crispy Salad with Blue Cheese, and Spumoni icecream (salad and icecream came with the pasta). It was absolutely delicious and for the price I paid, I think it was a great deal. There were large groups during the time we came as well, so our server and most likely the kitchen were quite packed with orders and requests. I ordered the Linguni and clam sauce. VERY VERY PEPPERY...it made the dish spicy (and I don't mind spice) which it should not be. The sauce seems oily which may be a bit too much butter but doesn't taste like butter and very few clams. Not sure if its a Canadian thing but I am from the US so maybe that's just how they prepare it here. Service was fine and we went on an off time so things came out fairly quickly. read more

Came here last night for our big dinner in Winnipeg! I have been to a few of these restaurants, but this one was so enjoyable and will be forever memorable. I was with a couple of good friends, and we wanted to go to a nice place as we were in Manitoba on our bucket list trip. It was a great night. First snow of the year in the area. Still not too cold. We dipped into this place and was seated by a lovely young lady all dressed in black. We had great service from the gentleman server. The restaurant inside looked simple, nice, and clean. Loved the soft mixed music in the background. We ordered the sweet potato parmesian fries with garlic aioli dip to share as an appetizer. I had raspberry iced tea to drink. Next came the easy and crisp iceberg lettuce salad with Bleu cheese dressing. Oh, we also were given the free white loaf bread with garlic butter. Then, my main course of Pesto linguine with sautéed chicken and little red grape tomatoes was served to me. It was a beautiful main dish. Shortly after, I had the vanilla ice cream. Always a great treat! Last, but not least, the night was capped off with the last all included item which was a strong hot espresso coffee, Italian style. Everything was perfect! The location is cool near the Red River and the Forks Market. Please come here if you are able to. You will not be disappointed! Eating at this restaurant up here in Canada brought me back many great memories for other Old Spaghetti Factory places I previously had eaten at. We chose the Spaghetti Factory as the food is reasonably priced, the location is central, and you can't really go wrong with pasta. I had the tortellini pomodoro with a clam chowder soup. The soup was okay, about what I expected for chain restaurants like this. The tortellini pomodoro was actually very good for the price I paid. The tortellini pieces were quite big and there was a lot of cheese inside. My other friends also enjoyed their meals and said they will certainly return. Service was excellent as well, the server even allowed us to stay a bit longer than what we anticipated as my table had a late arrival. Considering the polarizing reviews the Spaghetti Factory gets, I definitely think it's a great place for good value pasta. read more

I had supper tonight at the Old Spaghetti Factory. which is near my hotel. I got there at 8:40pm. Though they close at 9pm, the host still welcomed me and told me to stay as long as I wanted. Cory was my server and he started me with some hot bread. I ordered lasagna. So many things come with it ... bread, soup or salad (which I passed on), lasagna and ice cream. The lasagna was good! The sauce was chunky with onions and celery. I wasn't hungry but had a couple spoonfuls of vanilla ice cream. Cory was friendly and took good care of me. We went here with my parents from out of town, they insisted we go there. Service sucked, they ran out of chicken. My Dad ordered Spaghetti and meatballs, 4 lousy meatballs, sauce plain as shit. My parents used to love this place back in the day. I think once that generation stops going this place will close. We will definitely not be ever going back. My wife and I had our lunch there today I ordered a steak sandwich and i was told it comes with soup or salad. I upgraded to French onion soup.My wife had Spaghetti with brown butter. My soup came first. Looked good but the cheese would not even melt because the soup was barely warm. I told the server that I would like my food to be hot and she told me the rest of the meal would be hot. I asked for my steak to be medium and it came well done. This summer while visiting family in Winnipeg we found ourselves wandering around the Forks around lunch time. We happened upon the Old Spaghetti Factory and figured we'd give it a try, knowing full well it was a chain, but not one we had ever been to. We were super happy with our choice! Let me start by saying this though: if you are looking for authentic Italian . . . keep going! But if you are looking for a tasty decently priced meal that will appeal to kids and adults alike, served with a smile, this just may be what you're looking for! We all had variations of the lunch time spaghetti special, big bowls of spaghetti and sauce. We liked that the meals automatically came with bread, soup or salad, ice cream, and tea or coffee. For 10.95$? That's pretty amazing! It was an intensely satisfying meal, after walking all over that morning. Service was A-1! Our group included my 3yo son, and the waitress was completely unphased by him and his antics , including asking for a tea at the end of the meal. Normally I would not voluntarily dine at a place like this but it was a group event so I figure I should be open minded. It's a good place for families and large groups where people prefer "familiar" food. I mean it's all pasta related so really, nothing too crazy. Also, I think the main sell is that "it's all included" meaning that all of the dinner entrees come with bread, salad/soup and vanilla or spumoni ice cream or coffee/tea" and most meals are between $12-$15. The bread was warm, soft and delicious but it sure didn't taste like sourdough...good thing as I hate sourdough bread. The only downside is that it wasn't pre-cut so I wasn't a fan of everyone holding onto one end of the bread for support as they cut themselves a slice - germs! The whipped garlic butter was a nice touch. I had a choice of the minestrone soup or a salad with a plethora of classic dressings like thousand island (how retro), blue cheese, French, Italian...etc. The salad was okay...ice berg lettuce...guess I should've upgraded to a caesar for the extra $2.75. I had the chicken parmigiana with a side of spaghetti and tomato sauce for $14.75. To my surprise, the dish was quite decent. The chicken was breaded and crisply fried. The meat was tender and juice and not too over seasoned. The tomato sauce and cheese was nice without overwhelming the chicken. But, unfortunately the side spaghetti was not good. That's disappointing when the place is named after the famed dish! The pasta was cooked properly but the tomato sauce had a strange after taste. The sauce didn't taste homemade and yeah, Ragu or Prego would have tasted better and that's not saying much. I should've opted for the side of fries instead. I'm giving it three stars even though I wouldn't go running back but I think this is a good place families to go to as it's quite budget friendly for a night out and kids would like this food. read more

I love this restaurant! We go many times a year and always get great service! The food is excellent with many different types of pasta to pick from, as well as drinks and appetizers. All meals start with a loaf of fresh bread and a starter salad (the ranch dressing is the best, and I always get it on the side so they don't put too much dressing on!) While the food was to be expected the service was slow and terrible. The waitress tried her best but when we asked the manager (Simon) to be accommodated for our party of 12 once seated on the patio as some of our guests were squished together at the end of the table, our request was denied as "it will take away from the other patrons" they did move an umbrella over to provide some more shade however it was not properly bolted down and when a large gust of wind came it nearly hit one of the members of our group in the face. A server watched it happen AND watched another member of our group take off his belt and use it to secure the umbrella to prevent that from happening again. She was asked about the manager. Acknowledged who he was. And nothing was said of the incident or our seating again. After we had paid the bill I noticed Simon hiding by the hosts podium. It would have cost him nothing to come and apologize for his mistake. Based on this I won't be back and will actively be telling anyone who will listen to avoid all locations of the Old Spaghetti Factory nation wide and will be sharing this experience with my network who is based in Ontario and Vancouver. read more

There is SO MUCH wrong with Old Spaghetti Factory! If these are family recipes, I would want to be put up for adoption!!! Our server very early on in the meal admitted that it was only her second night working, but even still that is no excuse for the onslaught that was about to ensue ... She forgot repeatedly to bring multiple things, she got orders wrong and was all around extremely rude. But I do not blame her; she was overwhelmed (and probably underpaid by this monster-dump of a chain). To be honest, I would bet that the blame falls on the management which should have their staff more well trained before throwing them to the lions. Regardless, none of the service can be blamed for the quality of food that came out. It was awful. Over-cooked pasta, either flavourless or overly salty; many dishes being cold on one side of the plate. The "chowder" looked like lumpy dog food. The clincher of the evening was when the waitress brought over an unordered second beer. She awkwardly (and quietly) reported "I punched in the order for the beer twice ... this is an extra ... I'll have my manager take it off at the end ..." Okay! Free beer! Hey! Things are looking up here! Maybe this place won't be so bad after all! THINK AGAIN! Sure enough, the extra beer ended up on the bill anyway, and when asked about it, she got even more awkward and defensive saying,"Well, you DID drink it..." WHAT?!?! I won't even go into detail about the bill fiasco, except to say that the manager (who was by this time "helping" figure things out) did not even say one word to us to help the situation. Spineless. If nothing else sums up this experience, maybe the most memorable moment was when the manager was walking through the dining room with a plunger. That about said it all. read more

When you're at the forks and craving a good hearty meal, you go to the Old Spaghetti Factory. I remember going as a kid and even now their food is excellent, not to mention a GREAT price! For less than $20 you get delicious fresh warm bread, soup or salad (my favorite is their minestrone soup.... And I don't even like beans!), a pasta meal, ice cream for dessert (definitely have to try Spumoni???) and coffee/tea. My only critique was the patio was not yet open on a super gorgeous day while other restaurants at the forks had their patios open. Great place for families to go or for a date. I've eaten here a few of times in the past - always with a group of friends who were indecisive about what they wanted and somehow we would end up here. It's a very large space, and they open quite early for lunch (10:30 if I remember correctly). The menu is the same as other Old Spaghetti Factory restaurants - if you order an entrée (between ($12-$15) it will also come with either a minestrone soup or salad, your choice of ice cream, coffee/tea and all you can eat sourdough bread. I do love the bread here - it's warm out of the oven, soft and you can slather it with garlic butter. The food portions were just enough to make me full but not stuffed. I was here just a few weeks ago after a long absence. I went with my family including sister and her young kids. The staff were incredibly accomodating and stuck us in our own room and provided colouring supplies (how often do I get to play with crayons?) The food here was good. Obviously there is a good variety of spaghetti (with chicken livers! mmmm) but also other dishes like lasagna. What shocked me is how inexpensive this place is. The meals we had came with salad and ice cream. Entrees were like $12. I was really surprised. Pleased with service. Value is excellent. Nice location at the forks. Good service, pretty atmosphere especially if you sit in the room with all the windows. In the winter, people skate past you and it's all kinds of whimsical. In the summer there are flowers and its conducive to taking a walk before or after. The main courses aren't anything special, but you get a full meal for a low price. If you check out my other reviews, you will see that I enjoy the Old Spagetti Factory in my city, Edmonton, but visiting the Forks, Winnipeg location today was my best experience at OSF ever! AND I had my kids with me, so that's saying something (for those not "in the know", dining out with small children isn't everyone's idea of an fun time ;)). The food was great (as always), including to my sometimes picky children, the service was even better, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant was really nice. The other OSF I've reviewed definitely has the same sort of decor (old-timey, stained glass, train car in middle), but this location definitely had some nice unique pieces, plus lots of Windows, so you don't feel a dark & dingy vibe at all. The old spaghetti factory is a classic. It has the distinction of being in a beautiful building in one of Winnipeg's top tourist attractions. It has a model replica of a street car on the patio. It is filled with antiques and a collection of stain glass that would make a church feel inadequate (although that is an exaggeration) but is certain to make you feel like you are in an old parlour somewhere in the recesses of 1912 (as long as you don't over think it). As a bonous they serve a beer that is exclusively made for them by Fort Garry Brewing Company: Cobblestone Lager and Cobblestone Pale Ale. The internet suggests that Cobblestone Lager is made by Granville Island. I couldn't be 100% sure either way. Regardless, it was citrusy, light, and enjoyable. Nothing special, but it was worth ordering. Apart from the Cobblestone Lager, my wife and I ordered: · 1 Mojito · Veggie Lasagne · Spaghetti with Browned Butter and Mizithra Cheese, a la Homer What came along with the order: · Classic Sourdough Bread (with whipped garlic and plain butter) · Greek Salad (for an extra 2$) · Regular Salad (with raspberry vinaigrette) · 2 servings Spumoni ice cream · 2 cups of tea In other words, it was a whole heck of a lot of food for just about $50 (including a 15% tip). The sourdough was very good, the Greek salad was night and day better than the regular salad, and the ice cream was delightful. Of the two entrées we ordered the Veggie Lasagne was probably the better of the 2 dishes we ordered. With 7 vegetarian options (which is a little bit intimidating) and even an entrée that looks vegan, as well as gluten free choices, and options for children, it would be pretty hard to find a reason you couldn't eat here. I've never written a review about a restaurant in my entire life but this experience was so terrible I couldn't help myself. Of the several (and I mean several) available places to sit we were seated in a filthy booth with food and grease all over the fabric back rest. A couple utensils were dirty - they had hardened food on them. The beef steak was more like a deep fried pork chop, half of it was barely edible. The washroom was filthy. Lastly, a 20% tip on a $49 meal is not $13, so there was also something wrong with the debit machine. The waitress was really nice but that's about the only positive thing I have to share. read more
