This shop is so cute and surprisingly affordable! We recently stayed at Hotel Indigo, a block or two down Union from the shop. The hotel partners with the shop, offering guests 10% off purchases, so we stopped in here every single day--even twice one day--to stock up on souvenirs and gifts. The selection of items was great! We found several things for everyone back home. Prices were SO reasonable, especially with the extra 10% off. Staff was nice and remembered us each time we came in, joking on the last day that we were their favorite customers since we had been there so many times LOL! Overall, this shop is great. What a delightful shop located in old town Alexandria. This store is extremely welcoming.... Large and bright with plenty to choose from. We had been walking around the area for a while and decided to drop in to the local souvenir shop. This was not going to be a quick visit. There was a lot of fun merchandise to cull through. There was plenty of fun things here besides the standard shirts and hats. There was a little something for anyone in all age categories. We loved the selection of fun signs and books. The standard glasses and key chains are also here too. It was a nice break after walking outside for a long time. If you come down here and are looking for some fun items to bring home to your family and friends do, I definitely recommend that you peruse The Old Time Shop. read more

I love this place! It's super adorable and is so representative of all things Old Town Alexandria (and Virginia generally). This shop has lots of lovely souvenir items with Old Town logos, etc. I've visited on several occasions, since the shop is just off King St. on Union Street (and a block or two away from the waterfront). The people working there are super helpful and very welcoming. During my several visits over this past year, I've bought the following from this shop: -Old Town magnets -Old Town decorative signs -Old Town shirt -Christmas tree ornaments -Old Town waterbottle -Old Town tote bag -Old Town restaurant guide and cookbook Basically, they carry all things Old Town! They also have candles from Capital Candle Co., Virginia-specific books, postcards, and many adorable little trinkets. This shop is also housed in a quaint, historic, cobblestone building. I just love everything about it and will continue to visit in the future! I also got a discount the first time I shopped there just by checking in through Yelp. A solid shop for all of those Old Town gifts. I can see how this would be very popular with tourists, but as a local, I like it for gifts when I travel. There is nothing that says thank you like a can of Virginia peanuts or a pineapple door knocker. This shop also has a very nice selection of gifts during the Christmas holidays, so it shouldn't be overlooked during that time of year. read more

This little souvenir shop has much more personality than your typical souvenir shop (namely, the ones lining King Street.) It felt classier when I walked in. Fewer crappy made-in-China doodads. Many things featured local artists and artisans. I've got my eye on some dish towels with cute Alexandria town homes on them. There are also cute Alexandria themes prints, which, as a native Alexandrian, I'd like to own. There's also a cute children's reading/play area with the beautiful quote "a good childhood lasts a lifetime" on the wall. Prices are a little high, but it is, after all, a souvenir shop. I picked up the latest Mary Higgins Clark book--locally set in Mt. Vernon--for my mom, and a mini magna doodle for my second cousin who was turning two. There are plenty of things to make someone smile in here! read more

Love supporting local entrepreneurs. This store is fantastic! It's like when I go into Wegman's (they aren't local but they are privately owned!): the Old Town Shop is so well merchandised that you just want to pick items up and buy them. Seriously, the store has an incredible selection of baby/children's items, wine items ( huge plus!), clothing, food, books, holiday items. The team is kind, helpful and welcoming. They truly value your business. I've become addicted to the free Virginia peanut samples they place by the register. If they ever put out chocolate peanut samples, watch out... Just stopped in today to purchase my 4th bottle of this local hot sauce: Crum's. It is a veteran owned company and I just love that they support this company. read more

Definitely the best gift shop in Old Town Alexandria. If you need a souvenir or gift representing Old Town, this is the place to get it. There is a plethora of items to choose from like typical souvenir items (T-shirts, keychains, postcards, mugs, etc.). However, all of these items are unique and locally crafted like Virginia's finest peanuts from the Blue Crab Bay Co. and the OTX merchandise made by the store. The entire store is nicely decorated and organized with themed sections such a dedicated local vendors area, historical markers of Alexandria, and items for children. There is also a tiny section for dogs! The staff are exceptionally helpful and add to the casual and positive vibes of the store. read more

I was very excited about the concept of this store (at least as described on the website), but I was ultimately disappointed in the offerings. The website says they offer merchandise tailored to visitors and residents alike, but to me most of the merchandise screams tourists. They've created custom "OTX" branded merchandise, but it's pretty generic and I would never buy or wear anything they've designed so far. (I would, however, wear the Virginia "The Home" tee available at Red Barn). I was also pretty excited about The Locals' Alley, which gives you access to farmers market vendors all week long, but I basically had to force myself to buy cookies to support the concept, and they were pretty blah (the cookies did have a dietary restriction that I wasn't looking for, so that was probably part of it...). Basically, this would probably be one of the last stores on my list to visit if I was looking for a gift, but I'll pop in every now and again to see if they've improved their offerings at all. read more

It can be so hard to find Old Town/ VA gifts and souvenirs, so thank God for this shop! They have a TON of adorable and reasonably priced items that aren't just cheap, tacky touristy stuff. They also carry a lot of products from local vendors, which is amazing for the weeks I can't make it to the farmers market (because I will die without my Sweet Sophia honey and Demitri's olive oil!) Well the plus side was this store was super cute! I liked some of the products and my friend actually was interested in buying a couple of decor items; however, the reason we chose not to purchase anything was because of how rude the sales man was! He was speaking to someone on the phone and he said "there's only retired and unemployed people walking around"! We looked at him and he attempted to correct what he said but it was to late. I found it very rude and unprofessional, we decided to leave the establishment without purchasing anything. read more

I definitely don't recommend this as a destination boutique. I didn't get the experience via customer service that I would have anticipated in a store like this. The prices weren't that great, and there's plenty of other shops and boutiques in the DMV area that offer unique gifts. These gifts were more run-of-the-mill touristy type gifts. I was so excited when this shop opened.  Whenever the need arises I like being able to give a gift with a hometown connection and I have always been able to find something at The Old Town Shop in Alexandria   And I love the oval OTX logo merchandise, which is a play on the oval car stickers required in Europe starting sometime in the early part of the 20th century. I particularly like the simplicity of the artwork which is true to the original European design.   Whenever I am in Old Town I try to stop in to see what new goodies they have, and quite often I find myself picking up a little something ... even if it is just for myself. read more

We stopped in lured by the cute pineapple display. As I was rummaging around, I came across a travel mug with images of all the presidents. I wondered, to myself, how up to date it was, and was repulsed when I saw that, indeed, it was quite up to date. I involuntarily shuddered, turned to my husband and remarked to him, "I can't, I just simply can't". At which point, the owner (or manager, not sure which) looked at me threateningly, and intoned, "you better be careful what you say, you don't know who is around you." Obviously, he was referring to himself as the person I "don't know who is around" me. Now, first of all, he's the one who assumed who I was talking about. Second, I don't appreciate being "warned" by anyone about what I can say out loud or otherwise - especially in an establishment that wishes to sell me something in exchange for my hard earned money! So here's a warning to you Mr. Old Town Shop - if you'd like to attract and keep paying customers - keep your opinions to yourself. We don't need you - you're a dime a dozen - but, you do need us. read more

The Old Town Shop is my favorite shop in all of Old Town Alexandria. The variety of items in the store is terrific, but the best part is how hospitable the employees are. Every time I go I feel like I'm being greeted by friends I've known for years. They go above and beyond to make sure their customers have an enjoyable experience.
