On many occasions we have come in here to sample and buy various olive oils and other goodies. The ambiance is wonderful; the tastes, visuals, and scents bring you right to the old country and get you in the mood for all things to do with the delicious olive. Most times we are greeted warmly, offered additional info or recipes, and we have felt welcome. (Which is super important to me as someone who struggles in a place I feel rushed or like a burden.) This past experience was quite different from the normal ones we usually encounter when going into this fantastic little shop. While I would like to think (and hope!) that it was because the employee was either overworked or overwhelmed; we felt non-existent. Granted we have been in before and knew what we had come for, my husband would have liked to try a couple of new flavors of oils to bring home but we weren't afforded the chance because the employee was on the phone the entire time. It wasn't until we were standing at the register for about 5 minutes that she asked the caller to call back so she could ring us up. Fortunately I haven't felt that way in any other trip to The Olive Mill, so we will undoubtedly be back. A few of my favorites include their bread mixes, dipping oil herbs, and rosemary olive oil which goes well in just about anything. The local grown garlic at the counter is a must buy as an add-on! read more

I'm highly familiar with the Carmel location and was delighted to see an IL location as well! I visited this location and the staff immediately assisted me and were super helpful! I stopped in to pick up some goods as a birthday present and bought their pomegranate balsamic vinegar, herb-infused olive oil, and signature bread-dipping oil, as well as two dipping bowls. They also have recipe cards that suggest some tasty uses for the oils and vinegars sold. There's a lot of great merchandise here that makes for a classy gift. They aren't doing samples in this location but the Carmel one is--otherwise, it's also fun to try the array of beautiful flavors here and buy your favorites! read more

This place is almost identical to Old Town Oil in Chicago. I walked in and it felt like deja vu!!! They have huge canisters of different flavored olive oil. You are welcome to taste as many olive oil flavors as you'd like. They even had fresh strawberries in balsamic vinaigrette for customers to taste. You can either buy the olive oil prepackaged in bottles or you can take an empty bottle and fill it up yourself (you can mix and match whatever you want into your bottle). This is a store that specializes in olive oils and balsamic vinegars. They have about 20+ different flavored olive oils and around 10 balsamics. The place is a little pricey at around $20 for a 12.7 oz bottle (they also sell larger bottles not sure on the exact amount), but it is worth it. What's really great about this place is that you can SAMPLE just about everything they have. They also have other olive oil themed gifts like bottle holders and that sort of stuff, but it's a little over priced. If you want a nice olive oil for bread, or a special dinner then this is a great place to check out. read more

A coworker and I attended a training seminar in Geneva and decided to get a bite to eat and peruse the nearby stores to get to know the town. When she wanted to go inside an olive oil store, I thought, "Whaaaat?" Um, not something I'm really into. At first, I wasn't really that interested, but as my friend started exclaiming how delicious the various flavors of olive oils and balsamics were, I couldn't take it any more -I had to see what all the fuss was about! The store almost has the warm, woodsy look of an upscale coffee house. There are all of these "vats" lined up, each containing a different flavor oil or vinegar. There are little cups and you can go around a take a little sip to sample the various flavors. The flavors are really unique (and yes, delicious). The purpose is to use them for cooking -that the flavor will infuse into your food. Or, in my case, I've been eating a lot of salads lately and am so turned off by processed salad dressings! To me, it's just unnatural and not healthy. After tasting the White Peach balsamic, I thought, "Why don't I just put THIS on my salad?" So, the girl (me) who initially wasn't that interested in an "olive oil store" bought a bottle! Unique, fantastic concept and I LOVE the healthy angle to it. Glad I stopped in with my friend to give something new a try! Also, this would make a unique gift for someone who enjoys cooking or trying new "foods". read more

Very cute little store with the perfect amount of small town charm! The lemon oil is my favorite. . For cooking just about anything! The man who was working stayed late on Mother's day to accommodate all of the last minute shoppers, including myself and my Mom, which we greatly appreciated! By popular demand I picked up a coconut lime chapstick at the register that I can't put down & we also got free locally grown garlic ... who gets free ANYTHING today? Although my original #YELP coupon was added incorrectly at checkout, I called the next day and had an immidiate adjustment to my credit card. Will definitely be a returning customer in the near future! read more

I've been to several oil and vinegar shops, but this is one of the better and more affordable ones I've visited. They offer several unique flavors I haven't seen anywhere else, and good quality. The chocolate balsamic was a favorite, though I ended up buying a small bottle of the coconut mango balsamic this time (~$17), which I used on some grilled swordfish skewers last night - yum! I also picked up a small bottle of Tuscan olive oil (Italian herb infused) that begs for good bread to be dipped in it, and got 2 stamps on the loyalty card they offer; 10 more bottles and I'll earn a free one! The pistachio and walnut oils were also deliciously flavorful, and I'd love to pick up a bottle of the blood orange oil next time too. read more

I love little local stores like this. I stopped in the other weekend and was impressed with the offerings and the owners. I picked up a nice peach flavored balsamic vinegar and a good olive oil. I have used the vinegar so far in abotu 4 recipes and it is perfect - the right blend of citrus and acidic. If you like to cook and are interested in picking up some different types of oils - this is the place. read more

Fun little store, it is really nice that you can take your time and taste everything that they have. Staff was friendly and helpful. Like the others said, it might be a bit pricy but if you go for the tasting experience and not just to buy oil then you might hardly notice. read more

Great little local store. Friendly service, knowledgeable staff! The oils and vinegars are great. I have tried the jalapeno oil and it is terrific with some good bread and even tho it is more expensive the cooking olive oils I have used it with Mexican food and it makes a difference. I have bought oils as gifts and everyone loves them and the recipes. Today I bought the white peach vinegar - yum!! read more

The Olive Mill is conveniently located and parking is readily available. It is a charming store in a quaint building, brightly lit and very welcoming. They have a large and varied selection of varietal & infused extra virgin olive oils, nut oils and balsamic & wine vinegars to taste and purchase. They also have an interesting collection of tapenades, spreads, sauces, chips, dips and other items. They have sampler sets and gift baskets either standardized or they will customize to your order. These baskets make great gifts. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. On my last visit the manager helped me decide which oil might go best for a new recipe. She was very attentive and helped guide me through the flavor aspects of the various varietal oils. read more

The Olive Mill has many (and I mean many) different kinds of olive oils and balsamics to taste and purchase. They are all pretty great. They also have crackers, other spreads, olives, and other food items to purchase. I think it's pretty unique - I've seen places like it, but this one was very nice. You can buy them prepackaged or fill your own bottle. They also have water (thank goodness) for free so you can wash out your mouth in between. They also have free recipes you can take! I am a big fan of this place. The only reason I can't give it a 5 star is simply the price of the oils. I had heard about it many times from friends and we always joked about "How can you just sell olive oil?". However, I understand all the hype, now. I happened to bid on and win a bottle at a fundraiser (broke my little plate that came with it by dropping it on my wood floors, boo) and I tried it with bread at first. That was so good, I started using it on my lunch salads and I liked it even more than the homemade dressing I'd been using for years. It was the Dipping Oil. I went in yesterday, for the first time, and purchased the Tuscany oil (smells amazing) as well as another bottle of the dipping oil. The staff there also told me how they make the dipping oil, so I bought a little packet of spices ($0.75) and am going to see if I can make something myself at home with my favorite oils and vinegars. I have been to The Olive Mill in Geneva, IL many times and the service has always been extremely friendly and helpful. They have Extra Virgin Olive Oils from several different countries. They also have around eight Flavored Olive Oils ranging from Basil to Blood Orange to Chile Pepper. The Olive Mill also carries multiple Balsamic Vinegars and a couple White Vinegars. All of these oils and vinegars are out for tasting and there is a tank sign on top of all the tanks to explain where it came from, what you should expect to taste and the price for the two different size bottles. The two sizes are 375ml and 750ml. The 12.7 oz (375ml) bottle prices differ depending on which oil or balsamic you choose. All prices are between $14 and $19.50. If you prefer to buy the 700ml bottle then you will be paying more around $24+ for double the volume. The Olive Mill also sells different spices, olive oil soaps, dishes, pesto, dipping mixes and other specialty items. I'll second everything other reviewers have said so far, except criticizing the prices. The rich flavors and high quality of the oils and vinegars are worth the cost. The staff is pleasant and polite and always have a good recommendation for uses of their products. I'm particularly fond of their white truffle oil, roasted walnut oil, tangerine balsalmic and chocolate balsamic vinegars. They offer a recycling program and a customer loyalty card too. read more

Took my mom here to pick out a bottle of olive oil. She's just getting in to flavored oils and I thought it would be a great bday idea. It was perfect. The lady who helped us, who I believe is the owner, was very friendly and helpful. She gave my mom some great recipes to go with the oil she chose. She has tasting stations set up for all the oils and my mom got to try everything before she made her choice. I'm not really into cooking, but I even found something to buy. The pizza topping is amazing! It's like a super fine giardineria....had really great flavor. I'll definitely be back and so will my mom! read more
