Terrible clinic -- avoid if you care about your loved ones. Our experience here during a cancer crisis was beyond frustrating. Dr. Kim, the oncologist, showed zero compassion -- he rolled his eyes when we told him this was our first referral after the diagnosis and offered no helpful information beyond saying surgery was urgent. He claimed he submitted a referral, but a week later we learned it hadn't been sent. No apology -- just a late submission to a surgeon who doesn't even accept new patients. We found a qualified surgeon ourselves and requested a new referral, only to be stonewalled by the authorizations department with excuses like "it'll take 7 days," blaming insurance (which confirmed approvals take minutes). No call back from the doctor. Phones go unanswered. Office feels chaotic and unprofessional. In a time when every day matters, they cost us nearly two weeks. I never wanted to write this. But as someone who has sworn an oath in my federal role and is bound by strict standards of compliance and integrity, I have a legal and moral obligation to speak up. The Oncology Institute (TOI) failed my family and that's putting it mildly. A suspicious mass identified earlier this year was met with same day canceled appointments, delayed referrals, and no follow ups.. I not only became a full time caregiver for my loved one, I was now forced to take over TOI's administrative responsibilities: making calls, chasing authorizations, tracking down labs, coordinating between facilities. That is not the job of a family member. That's the clinic's job, and they failed. Because of this negligence, the cancer has spread and terminal. The fallout wasn't just emotional. I've lost income and have had to decline federal job assignments to manage the mess they created. While TOI hides behind California's malpractice caps and legal protections, this is no longer just a state issue. The failures here rise to a level that demands federal oversight. Formal complaints will be filed. I refuse to stay silent while others risk going through the same. I will pursue every legal remedy available to ensure this organization is held financially and ethically accountable for the harm it caused. read more

This office/clinic has gone so far down hill that I'm transferring my Father's care elsewhere. Since Dr. Friedmann's departure, we have had extreme difficulty reaching their Front Office through the appointment line; my Father has spent upwards of 25 minutes to 45 minutes, day after day, trying to reach someone, ANYONE, at this office to schedule an appointment. He's a cancer patient - why is this happening? Why is it so hard to reach anyone at this clinic?? All I can say is avoid this clinic at all costs - the Front Desk/Admin/Appointment process alone will be an absolute nightmare each and every time you need to see your physician and you, as patients, deserve far better than the services offered by this office. read more

I am extremely disappointed that my doctor referred my mother to this clinic. My mother is suspected of having pancreatic cancer, so we needed to come here for some procedures, but we were then told to go to another place for a PET scan. We received the appointment approval letter two weeks ago, but the other party is still saying they have not received the doctor's signed fax, and they require this signed fax for us to proceed with the PET scan. I have called the customer service line many times, but no one answers, and I have no idea how much longer I will have to wait. If this kind of delay causes my mother's condition to worsen, I cannot imagine what the consequences will be. read more

My mom has been seeing them since April. They have yet to diagnose her. The very first visit, I mentioned to do a biopsy of the mass, the doctor said pet ct should show everything. It took until July to get the PET CT, the next visit he said he doesn't feel diagnosing without a tissue sample. As much as I wanted to yell at him, I didn't. So her biopsy isn't until September, 5 months later, this is delay treatment, and I swear I don't know if this fraud, abuse or waste. But I guess this how they treat the octogenarians. Or, maybe others have encountered this treatment. I filled all their forms with the correct number, they carelessly do not update. I left 4 messages with the correct number and still a week and half later finally, they don't care if treatment is further delayed. I wish my poor mother could be treated efficiently, she cries because they still don't tell her if she has cancer or not, at least these last 2 appointments. read more

This is the second time my doctor referred me there and for chest X-ray and marked it STAT. This time same as last it still took a week , this was a problem for me because I was coughing and wheezing. I had it done on June 24 and it was faxed over Saturday the 29th totally unacceptable . This is my second time here. I hope after today, I never have to come back!! If you feel like spending half a day here sitting in the front lobby then the other half of the day inside the rooms, then this is your place. They don't respect anyone's time. Both times I've waited over 1.5 hours here! And Dr. Friedman is always "backed up". I feel so terrible for the people that have cancer that has to tolerate this wait. Their waiting room is always packed and you can see it is very uncomfortable for the patients to be sitting this long in a stupid chair. Have some common decency and space out your appointment, your cancer patients do not want to be sitting this long in the waiting area! read more

My grandma has been seeing Dr. Shum for almost 5 years. Sadly, this office has gone down hill as soon as Rachel Salazar took management of it. Is that the reason why Dr. Shum left because of her management? I don't understand how the office can be fully staffed(at times) and people are still waiting up to 2-3 hours, what is the point of having an appointment? With all due respect, Rachel Salazar does not know how to manage the office and her staff. What ever happened to the previous Office Manager? The office was ran much better with the old manager. I found the practice where Dr. Shum is currently working at and will transfer my Grandmas care to him and his new practice. If I could give them "0 star" I would. read more

3D time here. Like many other reviewers, I concur that the staff is rude and unprofessional. Not one of the 3 times that appointments were made was the appointment in time. I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer last year. It happened so fast. My doctor recommended a oncologist to me. That should have stayed home the day we met. He introduced his self and gave we a brief overview of my situation and what he thought should happen. Asked my bf and I if we had any questions. After one question he stood up then proceeded to open the door. We both looked at him like he was crazy and said we had questions. He said he had other patients and he did my doctor a favor by seeing me. Being told you have cancer and that being your first interaction with a doctor about it was not what I thought would happen. We left and I was mad. I let my primary doctor know and he apologized and said he was the best, give him another chance. We thought about it and did. Got there a little early and still ended up waiting a few hours. Didn't want that to be a habit so I left. Felling defeated. Months later I went home (east coast) to see my parents. I went to a appointment with my mom and she told the nurses about me having trouble finding a good doctor. One of the nurses mentioned that a few doctors left Chester, PA and moved to California. She printed out the information and the top page said The Oncology Institute Of Hope and Innovation. I couldn't believe it. I was about to get in to see Dr. Shum. I believe everything happens for a reason. I'm glad the other doctor was a shit show and so was his office and staff. If I didn't find him I would have kept DCIS and had No surgery. The east coast is a whole different vibe. More direct but with love and no agenda. Genuinely caring and not dismissive or take a number and sit down. Dr. Shum made me feel like I was down the street from Wawa. Lol. Comfortable. Answered all of our questions, explained everything, not once making me feel rushed or like he didn't care. It's crazy I had to go to the east coast to find a GREAT, caring oncologist. Happy I went through it with him as my doctor. If I had to do it again( knock on wood that I don't) he would be my first call. So thank you Dr. Shum and Kathy. read more

I never Yelp a business, but after reading everyone's review I think you're being greeted by the wrong person. The person to see at the front desk is Carol. I think her last name could be Robledo. I had a MAJOR issue after they changed to centralized calling and she immediately addressed and resolved my issues. She cares about the patient and it isn't just a "job" for her. She puts the patients needs first. She goes the extra mile to follow up to see how you are doing and if your appointments are correct. It is representatives like her that make the center a beautiful experience. The doctors need to hire more people with her qualities - Empathy, patience, and kindness given that we are all going through something, it is nice to be treated with care at the front office. She makes a negative experience a positive one. Ask for her and you'll be treated like royalty. Some people are just born with the natural qualities of assisting ill patients. We need this facility with more Carols- maybe the previous reviews will change if they do hire more people like her. Thank you Carol (if you ever read this) for helping me live. read more

I came with my Grandpa for his very first treatment today. Everyone was so nice and really made him feel cared about. I appreciated that I saw a stack of blankets that patients can use. But, over all this place seems to have some issues. Scheduling and billing has been a bit of a nightmare to deal with. It was so difficult to get his pet scan scheduled so they could see if his cancer came back. We called for two or three weeks with no returned call. It's almost like waiting to see if you have cancer isn't a high priority here. Now that the cancer is back I hope things improve. read more

If I could give zero stars I would! This place does not live up to its name! The staff is RUDE and can't speak proper English! I have been trying to get in touch with my Mother's oncologist for two weeks and she has not returned my calls after leaving numerous messages. I can not say enough about how horrible this place is. The care here is non-existent. The front office staff is disrespectful, unhelpful and extremely lazy. Unfortunately, the infusion staff is inexperienced and constantly rotated. The doctors seem confused, they regularly forgot or were uninformed about orders and treatments. They regularly try to overcharge you. They do not offer palliative care. It's a mill, for profits only. I have 3 other friends with the same experience. My husband's care there was excruciating. We changed insurance just to get away from this place. Change your insurance if you have to, DO NOT GO THERE! Patients have a hard enough time without having to deal with this hell hole. read more

I helped my Dad on his appointment at 2pm, waited for an hour and followed up with the front desk and replied in a rude way " Yes He will be next" without saying sorry, but still waited for another hour before we called inside. Waited another hour in the room with no Doctor. Followed up again and they said the Dr is in the phone and we will be next. Total wait time with appointment to see the Dr. is 3hrs which is so ridiculous. My Dad is so tired waiting on his wheelchair. I don't feel that Dr. Freimann care about my Dad Health situation , He's always in a rush and It's been 2 months and still no treatment plan. Run!!! Switch if you can! The staff is rude, obnoxious and uninformed. The front desk receptionist is rude and continuously speaks over you, as she rolls her eyes. We've had a difficult time getting any information about treatment, side affects, PICC, etc. They give misinformation that varies from person to person. Staff does communicate with each or with their patients, which results in unnecessary appts and of course an overpayment of copays and costs. They have little respect and no empathy for their patients that are going through a difficult time. Pick another clinic until they take the time to train their staff properly. read more

So I heard Dr Shum is amazing but good luck getting past his front office staff , I called a total of 8 times to schedule an appointment and placed on hold every single time for 20 minutes or more when I kept calling back and told the staff you keep placing me on hold she laughed and said yeah so hold . horrible place to work this place only cares about the money. they do not care about their patients. i should know, since i worked here before. I always went above and beyond at this place, i treated each patient as if they were my own family member. I would advocate to management all the time about unsafe nursing staffing, and nothing ever was done. i would be the only nurse with sometimes 25-30 patients a day infusing chemo with only ONE LVN, if i was lucky. i was not able to clock out for lunch breaks either because i could not leave the facility in case a patient were to have a reaction. The management is super unprofessional. I found out from other coworkers from other offices, that my own "manager" would talk behind my back as opposed to correcting me on any mistakes or guiding me to do better. When i brought this up to HR, nothing was done. she is a LVN but in a manager position and talks about employees, very unprofessional. There are specific guidelines and protocols that should be followed especially when handling chemo, and sometimes management would tell me, oh its ok just do it this way, every day it was a different "rule" or protocol and on top of that my "manager" who is a LVN who should not even be handling chemo would advise me on how to administer it which i was not comfortable with. they will hire anyone because they are desperate to fill positions which is why a lot of the nurses and other staff end up quitting. do not send your family members here or become a patient here, very unsafe and they do not follow protocol. they make up their own rules as they go. read more

First time visit today was wonderful. As soon as we walked in the office, the front desk staff was very welcoming. All the staff from this office is very generous and kind, not to mention how clean and organized this office is, they even have a wellness center and offer massage therapy!!! How awesome is that!!! The front desk staff was horrible they are so unprofessional and rude, no smiles, limited eye contact, eating and drinking at the front desk and let's not forget they were constantly on their cell phones. Dr. Shum is the best helped me survive!! He tailored my treatment every step of the way, and what can I say about the beautiful nurses they ALL of angels on earth. On days I was so sick they would get me in as quickly as possible to help me get home faster they checked in with my mom and they even walked me to my car on a couple of occasions when I could not walk to car without getting nauseated. This is the worst oncology clinic! I hope I can give a minus star! The doctor does not know what he is doing! The one that take my mom is very young. Their insurance approval department sucked! It took them 4 months to get insurance approval and they made mistakes 4 times! The doctor was always very delayed responding to our calls! For cancer patients, time is extremely critical! The office is very nice, they are very accommodating and understanding. The staff is very helpful and never take long to see me. I rate this place one star for Only One person that was helpful at my last visit for a phlebotomy. Starting with the desk clerk being rude to the unprofessional team of staff n the cluttered, unorganized trashy infusion center-not to mention being poked six times with no success.
