She is the worst business owner I have ever encountered! She is rude and arrogant. I had the same experience with her several years ago but as she is so close to my house, I decided to try her again. I walked in to an empty store but she ignored me at first and then proceeded to rudely tell me she can't/wont help with the plant she had sold me and basically for me to get out! If I could give zero stars I would. I have been buying orchids here for years. Originally from a cart in the middle of the mall. I recently bought one and it died in two days. The flowers just fell off. I had put it in the exact same place on the coffee table I always do. So I took it in because obviously there was something wrong with it. She yelled. No screamed at me .409 409 !!! I smell 409 !! You sprayed it with 409 and killed it. Get out of my store!!" I not only did not spray it with 409 or anything else. I did not know what 409 was. Doris was fantastic! I was lucky enough to know her at the beginning of her tenure at Southgate when she started on a kiosk. She has always had the very best supply of beautifully maintained orchids and an expansive selection of pots. The orchids last a very long time too. We just left her store and we'll never return. Been going to her before she opened her store. Very loyal; have spent thousands there. Brought one of her orchid plants back in just for her advice (not replacement), since it wasn't blooming. She screaming at us saying "What do you expect me to do?" Yesterday I had a very unpleasant experience attached this place of business. I am a nurse and was traveling in the area for work. I love orchids, and this store has beautiful arrangements so I was intrigued and wanted to purchase a nice piece for my villa. The owner however, was abrasive and rude. I was taken aback by her tone and complete lack of customer service. I took care not to touch the orchirds because there was a sign stating the same but I did turn the container at the bottom to get a better view. She walked over to the flower, ignored me and addressed another customer stating," I don't know why people come into this store and touch things". Beautiful selection of orchids at a great price for the quality and presentation! I've been going here for years. I'll bring her my pots and Doris fills them with the most stunning arrangements. I drive from St. Pete to go to Doris and will continue to as long I can. Her arrangements seem to last much longer than the ones you can buy from big name, chain stores. Just this past weekend I went in requested Doris make up 3 arrangements for me and she told me they could be done the next day! Well worth the money and the drive for me. read more

Will never buy here again. Had problems with a planter of 5 orchids that were overwatered and two died within 2 weeks of purchase, one completely rotted out. They were a gift, so I didn't have a sales slip. She wouldn't even consider refunding or replacing without the sales slip. Stopped in today to see what was avaialble for patio decor. The store is filled with orchid arrangements and other air plants. I gentle reached to touch an orchid as they were so perfect we thought they were artificial. The owner began screaming from behind us....we were in shock!! So startled, we were speechless. Never have I ever been spoken to that way by a retailer. Her plants she said are Hers!! There her money!! Well, she can keep them. She would have done far better to have explained to please not touch the plants and why We would have bought several for our patio. In trying to apologize, she said she didn't care if we bought any or if we told anyone of her screaming. Really? I hope someone cares! I found the prices for orchids at Home Depot and Lowe's with very decent quality and way lower prices, plus, the owner offers very poor services at the store when being asked questions, not a good place to shop for orchids! My rating for this place is only one star. read more

I have been buying my orchids from Doris, the Orchid Lady, for 15 years or more and have never had anything but a good experience. I do not have a green thumb (and I live in a condo), so my plants need to be adaptable to living indoors in light filtered through windows and being tended to by a non-gardener. Every orchid I've bought from Doris has been healthy and long-lived. The last two I bought before this week were purchased in early October, and they still persist in putting out new blooms at the tips of their long, bare stalks. Since I can't get rid of any plant that's making an effort, I always wait too long to replace them -- until I'm pushed into it by the arrival of guests. So I called Doris (who always remembers me), and she offered to assemble several large pots of white phaleanopsis orchids for me to choose from before my upcoming dinner party. Now that's service with a smile! I can't recommend the Orchid Lady highly enough. Her flowers are beautiful and healthy, and she's a true professional. read more

One star for the beautiful arrangements! That is it !!! Prices and especially plant quality are better everywhere else (including Costco and Lowe's - so why pay these prices?) And owner / manager Doris is nasty, degrading and unhelpful!!! Love orchid and have had many for at least a dozen years - I bought my first arrangement from Doris because it was beautiful, though moderately expensive. The arrangement started to die plant by plant and all died in spite of my experience caring for orchids and all attempts to save each plant in the arrangement. I had never had an orchid die so quickly and in this fashion - almost like a cutting that just withered, dried up (yes it go water) and totally died! Loving an arrangement when I passed again several months later, I discussed the dead arrangement with Doris and she assured me this is very unusal and she wishes I had brought her the arrangement when it was not doing well before it died. Convinced this beautiful arrangement would do better - I bought a $38 arrangement. Within one week the same thing started to happen (while all my other orchids at home were flourishing) and 2 of the 5 plants had already died- so within 2 week, I brought the plant back as she had asked me to do with the first plant. Her answer to me was "what do you want ME to do about this?" I reminded her she asked me to bring it back - I told her maybe it needs repotting, maybe exchange for another plant or maybe just TLC or advice what different to do. She refused to do anything, refused to exchange, fix or re-pot and told me it was my fault or the growers she gets the plants from. I asked her to help please, as I bought 2 plants from her that both died...she refused to do anything! Why would I buy from her when Costco is way cheaper and sells healthier plants. I just have to make my own arrangements - and not take abuse for poor quality merchandise! read more
