We have been traveling through the area for the last week and this was, by far, our most disappointing experience. On our way here we visited multiple gardens and flower farms in Salem and the surrounding area that were completely free and FAR superior. They charge $14 per person to visit the garden and in my opinion it's not worth it. The employees we interacted with were unhelpful, unknowledgeable and apathetic but beyond the poor service, the grounds themselves were disappointing. There are dead and dying plants everywhere, shade and seating are scarce and there is very little of interest to see. If you enjoy paths and trees, visit any local park and the sites will be as good. If you love roses, visit Owen Rose Garden or if you like peonys, irises, etc there are multiple farms in the area to visit for free. Unless you love the smell of hot fertilizer and throwing your money away, this is not it. Their "Amazing" water garden consists of a few algae topped ponds. They also claim to be dog friendly but they are as dog friendly as a sidewalk. They have a tram tour that literally stopped in the walkway blocking all the walking guests from proceeding while robotically reading a speech and leaving everyone to stand there in the sun until they were done. This whole experience was just so unenjoyable. I rarely leave bad reviews and I Yelp to help others avoid my mistakes so if you are reading this, please don't waste your time or money here. There are so many other great options. Oh, and to the "Business Manager" who obligatorily responds all the unflattering reviews in an effort to appear as though customer service is important, but is ultimately condescending, it's not helping your cause, so feel free to spare us all. read more

So nice we visited twice over the course of the weekend! Once as guests of the Resort and the next with an WCCLS Adventure Pass. Even though the plants' condition in March leaves a lot to be desired, as not very much is coming into season yet, there was plenty to take in. The variety of landscaping/hardscaping is impressive, the views incredible, the plant collection inspiring (even my very non-aggie partner took notes on what we could possibly incorporate into our own yard). It's obvious that plenty of care and planning went into the garden spaces. Highlights for me included the conifer forest and the wetlands areas. The Lewis and Clark pathway with its stonehenge-like pillars was neat too. Each section has its own hidden treasures and spaces for reflection. Would love to come back in spring or summer to see what's changed. read more

August 24, 2025 - Silverton, OR We always make a point to visit the Oregon Garden when we stay in Silverton. It's such a beautiful place to spend a few hours -- and best of all, it's DOG-FRIENDLY! The gardens are full of flowers, water features, and themed areas that delight the senses. And don't miss "Mr. Ed," the Sea Serpent sculpture. There have been different versions over the years, but the current one is hands-down the best. My personal favorite area is the Conifer Garden, one of the largest collections of dwarf and miniature conifers in the U.S. Some are rare, one-of-a-kind specimens gathered from around the world. On our visit, the day was hot and humid, but stepping into the Conifer Garden felt like the temperature and humidity dropped instantly. The Rediscovery Forest is also worth checking out if you're into learning about forest management. So worth a visit. read more

What a BEAUTIFUL space. I hope it can stay funded. I learned that the resort on the lot privatized after suggesting they'd support The Oregon Garden, and rather used it to funnel in profits. The garden has lots blooming flowers when we walk in the garden. The parking lot is free for visitors. We are able to see the artwork in the garden and most of them have a price tag on them for visitors to buy them. Children garden has several cute plants shaped. We don't take a tram tour for wondering what the garden looks like. We walk through most trails and see how beautiful it is. read more

The Oregon Garden's Discovery Pavilion in the Rediscovery Forest was the perfect site for our wedding celebration. April was very communicative leading up to our event, and the day-of help, Zoe, was on point. We expressed some concerns about the condition of the wooden benches at the pavilion and staff repaired the benches well before our event date. The rental cost was great, and the fact that guests had access to the entire garden on the day of the event was a wonderful bonus. One thing to note is that the electrical outlets at the edge of the forest aren't functional so you might consider bringing a portable power source if you intend to plug into that area. We brought our own with us so our live musician could perform at the edge of the trees and therefore didn't have any issues with power. We highly recommend having your celebration at the Oregon Garden. read more

We hosted a holiday company party at the Oregon Garden, in the Frank Schmidt pavilion. The event coordinator made planning our event simple and straightforward. She is a good communicator. The day of the event the space was set up for our group, the bathrooms were clean, and the staff we interacted with were helpful at every step of the way. The Oregon Garden is absolutely stunning. This last week we had our daughters wedding there. We couldn't be more pleased with all of the assistance that we received from April and her staff. The wedding was in the Garden Green and the reception was in the Grand Hall. Both areas were set up with the plan that we sent over before hand. The Oregon Garden was a lot prettier in my memory. It was looking really run down. Tons of weeds everywhere and nothing was really maintained. Since it's May, I figured there would be so many things in bloom, but there wasn't really. Totally disappointed. The tropical green house is usually my favorite part of the garden, but it was just really sad. Many plants were dead and a few just looked terrible. I had read some reviews that the gardens are not being taken very good care of since covid. But still decided to check them out on a 4th July weekend. I do think that the gardens have a lot of potential. The concept and area is very well thought out. But definitely needs more TLC. There are so many abandoned areas that look totally overgrown. The kids play area is completely neglected. The areas that are well manicured are very enjoyable though. Their 4th of July fireworks were wonderful. We thought we'll enjoy them from the park but the line outside before the fireworks was so huge that we decided to watch from just outside our hotel (Oregon garden resort) and that was even better. read more

The Oregon Garden is in the beautiful small town of Silverton. The garden itself has many pathways meandering throughout with plenty of shade and benches to take in the beauty. There are multiple "areas" within the garden that focus on natural forested areas, multiple water ponds and creek, farm yard and veggie garden and even a playground with a "pirate ship" to climb on. Walking loops can be walked multiple times to log in the miles. Beautiful and scenic park with a mini cafe and gift shop. read more

Strolled through these beautiful gardens after having dinner at The Garden View restaurant. Since we were guests at The Oregon Garden Resort, we were able to enter the gardens after hours until dusk. There is gate access to the gardens off the restaurant's outdoor patio seating area...you just need your room key to open the gate. There are various gardens with numerous plant and tree types. Many of the plants and trees have name plates stating what they are. I love this because many times I see something in public gardens I'd like to have in my own garden at home, but never know their name. The gardens are well maintained. There are a few fountains, as well as a broad bridge over a large lily pond. There are benches throughout...plenty of resting spots! My only suggestion is to have more trash receptacles throughout, and more water fountains. During our walk, we only encountered one of each, and we covered most of the garden. Since it is a pet-friendly garden, it would be more convenient to have more of both of these amenities. Overall I would highly recommend these gorgeous gardens! read more

My review is for the garden in late fall, when most of the plants are not in bloom and things have died back a bit. Regardless, my experience visiting The Oregon Garden was positive and I will definitely come back during a different season. They are dog friendly which is a huge plus, and have bag dispensers throughout the park. There are several discounts available: it costs $10 during the peak season from April to October and $8 the rest of the year. Students, veterans and AAA members get discounts too, and they are a participant in the Washington County Library Adventure Pass. I was part of the latter and got a free pass. The grounds were well maintained and most of the plants are labelled, and was even able to hear an owl hooting in the test forest area! During December there were almost no people visiting- I saw maybe five people the entire time, making this experience peaceful and quiet. The people working in the gift shop were very friendly and accommodating, and for people that collect pressed pennies, they have a machine! During the other seasons it appears they have a store where you can buy native plants which is also very nice for the gardeners out there. Even for a nice quiet walk it was worth the admission price. I've read some of the recent reviews of how the garden is not well maintained which is quite sad, but I'll still like to support the garden until they can get staffing issues taken care of. The gardens are fairly large, and well managed. In the mid to late summer it is not really worth a visit, but this might be due to the drought. We wanted to use the venue for our wedding. The customer service was not great. The coordinator was difficult to get a hold of and we received inconsistent information. The website had different information regarding policies on catering and alcohol than what was provided to us on our tour. The spotty customer service and lack of information created a stressful situation that ultimately led to us deciding to not use the venue. I have seen the venue used for weddings, though now I am sure they are overpriced. There are much better venues available. Also, ones that have a larger approved catering list than 4 nonlocal caterers and 2 local. I hope others have had a better experience than we had. read more

We booked a 2 day stay so we could see the Oregon Garden and we walked away disappointed and deflated. Over half of the grounds are overcome by weeds, many of the plant tags were incorrect, or identified plants that were no longer there (see pictures) the grounds including concrete steps, outbuildings, etc were in a state of disrepair and the entire place had a neglected feel to it. Being an admirer of the botanical gardens of England and Canada, this was a sad pitiful display. And the worst part? The entire place is backed by and supported by Oregon Forest Resources Institute which is a pro timber organization that lobbies for industrial scale clear cut logging and the the aerial spraying of herbicides that follow it. Any person who has flown over our state knows how hideous this practice is and it is completely inappropriate for them the fund or otherwise be affiliated with the Oregon Garden. read more

So beautiful! This place is a must see. It's quite large and you can easily spend a few hours there. There are so many different types of plants, water features, wetlands, and on and on. There's also a fun children's area. The staff was very nice and there's even a small gift shop. My only real feedback is the map was super confusing and we had a hard time finding a few places. Hello. There is not much good to say about this horrible place rather than i will never recommend anyone to ever have any sort of event or wedding at this location. If you would like your wedding to not go the way you agreed in the contract, this is the place for you. One staff lady was yelling at me only because i asked her where the bathroom was and she responded with vulgar language and a very high rude tone of voice and made my eyes tear up with pure sadness and a hurt heart. The back parking lot of a Grocery Shopping center will have my recommendation to others before i ever Recommend this venue to anyone. The Oregon Garden should be on the list of places to visit in Oregon, but I wouldn't put it near the top of the list. I visited twice in the early years and then more recently in the garden's 18th year. It has definitely grown in scope with additional pavilions and gardens being added over the years, but it still doesn't create the type of awe inspired by some of Oregon's natural wonders. Timing your visit is important. The complimentary narrated tram tour operates April through October, but only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you are wondering through the 80-acre garden on foot on a hot day, you will definitely wish you visited on one of those days. Our experience was that water fountains and drink machines are few and far between with many out of service on a hot day in June. When we asked at the visitor center if anything special was going on that day, we received a rather blase, "Nope, nothing special" in response. So while walking through the Garden Green, J. Frank Schmidt. Jr. Pavilion, and Rediscovery Forest, we noticed all of these spaces were being prepped for an event. So the takeaway is to attend when there is something "special" going on like the Oregon Garden Brewfest, July 3rd Celebration, or movies or sunsets in the Garden when the space comes alive with beer, fireworks, movies, or dancing. On its own, it was interesting but not engaging. The garden reflects the natural environment in Oregon, not a highly manicured formal garden. Our highlights were enjoying the feel of fountains and finding some of the quiet spaces in the Wetlands area. There is artwork throughout the garden from the whimsical dragon in the lily pond to the Max the lab in the Pet Friendly Garden. We were charmed by the weird plants and family made of potting buckets in the Children's Garden. Discount entry available through the Entertainment Guide (BOGO), seniors, students, and children. No charge for parking and it is pet friendly. read more

The Oregon Garden is a botanical garden that is the getaway to the very stunning Williamette Valley. It is a very beautiful garden filled with many plants, trees, ponds, and fountains. The tram boosts accessibility of the gardens for those who may be less inclined to walk around. If you find yourself at the Oregon Garden, keep a close eye for bullfrogs around the water features! **WC** I was able to really wheel myself around almost everything here though when we looped around and came back to the beginning there were a few sections with gravel or pea gravel (aka my arch nemesis) but I got a lovely workout which was not daunting - it was probably just as good as a foot traveler though a motorized chair could zip through everything no sweat. And what a perfect time of year to go for 2017. Our day was great - not too hot or too cool. Lovely breeze and clear stunning views. These gardens just get better every time I got because they are constantly working them and expanding, adding new spaces and improving on whats already there. Pro tip: AAA members get a $1 off admission and sometimes they put deals on Groupon or Livingsocial for two for 1 admission or at least money off though it is worth every penny to go at full price. Plan to spend quite a few hours though, have lunch before and then grab a snack or some ice cream and walk it off. Every time I go, like I was saying, is a completely different experience. We saw a snake in the water feature and frogs, lots and lots of frogs, beautiful coy... Tons of dragonflies we about and of course a few butterflies. read more

I've always enjoyed just walking around checking out the landscape and spotting the occasional critter. I've never had any issues at events either and always just had a good time. I'm giving this 5 stars to help pull up its yelp review because after reading many of these reviews it appears that they are reviewing their Christmas festival, which may or may not be good, but this is a botanical garden and deserves a higher yelp rating than it's getting due to the low Christmas festival ratings. Okay, so this is no Sissinghurst, but for a botanical garden in Oregon, it's a solid 4 star garden. So, here are the good, the bad and the uglies. The good: They have a lot of great ideas at this garden. There are very many beautiful perennial beds. There is a delightful herb garden that is beautiful and inspirational. Their N.W garden is on point. The tram ride is educational and interesting. If I were having a wedding this would be the place where I'd want it to be...if I lived in the area. The gift shop is nice. The bad: They have a weed problem. It's not terrible, but it's more than it should be. They also have a lack of plant (perennial cultivars) diversity problem. I saw a lot of the same plants over and over again. In a botanical garden there are usually hundreds of different species of perennials. The uglies: Sigh... the "Market Garden" was a whole sale disaster. My compost pile at home grows better veg than their veg gardens. But it really has good bones. In fact, while we were on the tram when we saw it from a distance we decided to head straight for it once we exited the tram. It just looked that good... from a distance. Up close it was beyond bad. I don't know if they have a soil problem, a deer problem, a rabbit problem, a gardener lacking weeding skills problem, a watering problem or a combination of all of the above, but it's bad. The boxwood hedges are nice, but again, there are a lot of common flowers in them that you see over and over again in other gardens on the property. In a Market Garden, perhaps they should take a cue from Villandry Gardens in the Loire Valley and plant different vegetables inside of the boxwood hedges. They can look spectacular. I did like their espaliered fruit trees. They are such a good idea for small gardens.. Overall, The Oregon Garden is worth a visit. It's beautiful and for the garden nerds out there (that would be me) it's very enjoyable. As public gardens go, this is a new garden. I'm sure it will only get better with time. read more

Looks super run down and majorly disappointing. I know this place used to be gorgeous but it looks like no one has maintained it in months or maybe a year. I totally understand there may still be ice storm damage, but there were lots of other details missing. All of the water features that used to be beautiful are algae-filled and only one of the fountains was running in the entire place. Lawns were not edged, grasses yellowing, moss on the walkways. And still $12 a person to get in, even if you're staying at the resort! Such a bummer, hope they can get it turned around. read more
