The perfect spot for delicious Chinese food tucked along Main Street in Bel Air with metered parking out front and a free parking lot in the back area by the dry cleaners which makes for a quick walk to the restaurant. They have booth seating (even larger ones that for parties of 6) and some table/chair seats. Very nice decor. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our server was terrific throughout our entire visit. He was very attentive and friendly. A very welcoming restaurant. Once seated you will be served some very tasty fried noodles and duck sauce. Just beware as you will clear the bowl quickly. We ordered the wonton soup (delicious), crab Rangoon (recommend), and the egg rolls (get these - so tasty). An order of General Tso chicken with white rice was the main meal and it was massive! It was also very tasty. There was hardly any wait time for your food. The portions are immense and the prices are beyond reasonable! This combination along with all of the food being absolutely fantastic is a win. Came here for Friday night dinner with my husband and inlaws. The restaurant was empty, likely since we ate an early dinner. The restaurant was quiet with no music playing so it was a bit awkward to talk. We ordered a few dishes and it came quickly. I mainly had the sushi and it was very dense. Flavor was just OK. Awful! Was looking forward to a tasty dinner but instead I had nasty rubbery beef that was full of fat. Beyond that, it was so loaded with salt that it tasted like someone dumped an entire salt shaker in it! The same goes for the egg roll which was full of cabbage but no shrimp. The service was quick as soon as sat down. This was our first time so we got a little of everything and had plenty of leftovers. The dumplings were so good! Chewy and had great flavor. The spare ribs were great - they were my boyfriend's favorites things. The duck was amazing and crispy, and the sauce that accompanied it was delicious. My favorite was the Ho Fun with Beef. Great flavor, chewy noodles, and so addicting. The house fried rice was also very good and gave lots of leftovers. Overall, I loved this place and would keep going! Have been to the Orient a few times now and usually get takeout. Didn't discover them until our other go-to for Chinese switched owners and changed the wrong way. We've tried the locations in Bel Air and Perry Hall and have been consistently happy with the food. We've tried the Mandarin Spring Rolls, Singapore Rice Noodles, Shrimp with Garlic sauce, General Tso's chicken, Szechuan String Beans and Lo Mein. All consistently excellent. Their prices are slightly higher but when you order a few entrees they will throw in free soft drinks. The restaurant is spacious and looks like it would provide a pleasant dining atmosphere & experience. Always friendly when we go to pick up our food. read more

The apparent new ownership has ruined what was once a great restaurant. This last, and I mean last, experience was a disaster and I would recommend you don't even bother giving them a shot to ruin your meal. To start, ordering for delivery requires you to go through Door Dash. They add about 25% to the price of the regular menu on top of another 18% in "service fees" and that is before a tip to the driver. Highway robbery! Then when we drove downtown to pick up our meal, we were given the wrong order by a woman who could not have been more rude. She stated that we must have ordered from the "other Orient Express" so I was mistaken but I replied that I simply pressed redial to call back in. Then she asked me to hold. Subsequently she proceeded to hang up on me. Then I called right back. She answered and put me on hold right away. I sat waiting for her to pick up the phone for a very long time, and when she came back, I stated that she hung up on me and my order was screwed up. I could hear the disappointing "OH" in her voice when she realized I hadn't just hung up because I was wrong. She then proceeded to tell us that she gave us the wrong order and ours was sitting there waiting and we'd have to drive back downtown to pick it up. When my wife went back with the wrong order in hand, she refused to compensate us for their mistake in any way, shape or form or to take any ownership in the said mistake. When asked if they were going to compensate for the screw up, she said, you know, we can't do anything like that. As for the quality of the food preparation, I ordered shrimp Pad Thai, which was probably the worst tasting Pad Thai I've ever had. There was no peanut flavor at all, it was just noodles and soy sauce, without any attempt to resemble Pad Thai. We also ordered fried wontons that were clearly steamed and slightly seared on the top and bottom to look like they were fried and the egg drop soup had very little taste. My wife had the Singapore rice noodles and that was disgusting. On top of the incredibly bad customer service, when we finally got to try our order, the food was just as bad. Needless to say, we will never be going back to this place, and I will advise on every platform for people to steer clear of this "train wreck on the Orient Express". read more

I have been a loyal customer to the Orient for 15 years when they were in Towson and then when they joined Bel Air. I called this evening to place an order and was cursed out by the manager. When placing my order I discovered by asking that they changed the policy for spicy meals and hot oil on the side that had been free. No big deal if there is a new charge, but apparently the policy changed 4 years ago and they didn't feel the need to communicate it. I asked for the manager to call me back to learn more and when he calls me back he blames me and begins cursing me out repeatedly "I don't f****ing care," and screaming it at me. When I asked why he was cursing at me he said, "It's not my f***ing problem." I will never again return to the Orient. read more

I have been going to the Orient restaurant in Towson since the 90's. I was hesitant to try this location because I didn't know if it would be as good. Everything was amazing! Just as good as I remembered and I was so impressed they were able to be so consistent for so long. We had the California rolls, sesame chicken, green beans and triple delight. One star. The 4-star average was when the old owners ran the place. It was recently sold in February and the foot isn't the same. We now drive down to the Perry Hall location to get the same food we used to get from this location. Took my family there last night for a celebration. The service was terrible, long waits even though restaurant was not busy. Many items ordered were not serve, some dishes had been apparently sitting for a while as they were cold and mushy. Two entrees couldn't even be eaten. Came here for the first time with my wife today. Drove by it several times so decided to go for it! First initial, thought as we walked in was the smell. Normally, having been raised in Asian culture, this wouldn't be out of the ordinary. However, this type of smell was...odd. But it soon dissipated and we got seated right away at a booth. The staff was friendly and cordial and got our order right away, despite the dinner time. The food came out after about 15 min. We got a Dragon roll, some soups, General Chou's Chicken and the Lo Mein. Everything was pretty spot on esp the Dragon Roll. I will say the chicken did seem a bit more breaded than expected and the Lo mein could have used more vegetables. But overall I enjoyed myself as did my wife. Their website is useless if you want to know their menu, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the upscale, classy interior. It may be a temporary problem, but they don't have their liquor license. Another reviewer mentioned that they were out of egg drop soup but I heard the table next to me order some. Surely, they are still working out the new business location kinks? Going alone on a Friday night (8PM), I enjoyed excellent service. Then again, I ordered a staggered menu: seaweed salad, sushi, & sesame tofu. The salad was great, except for the skin on cucumber strips at the bottom. They should have had no skin. The sushi was terrible. The rice was more like jelly than sticky. It was too big to eat in one bite & it fells apart after one bite. The cucumber strips in the shrimp tempura roll were too thick & had skin. Besides the cucumber skin & rice error, it was missing that wow flavor. The sesame tofu was kinda crispy - just a lil bit of mushy in the middle. The sauce was thick, but it had a light flavor. Oddly, it tasted better after it was cooled and reheated. This might be picky, but my tea was served before it had finished brewing. No warnings from the server who poured a clear cup anyway. The tea was in a teapot in a way that could easily result in too strong tea. (I pulled my tea bags out to prevent this.) Also, they ONLY had green tea. When the waiter asked if everything was ok, I said yes, but he caught on that something was off. After I explained, he asked me if I wanted a to go box. LOL. Presumably the manager also asked me if I enjed my meal. I told him yes, but that I wouldn't be back for the sushi. He asked me what I ordered, but quickly walked away before I responded. Now that I think about it, I probably won't be back. A much better place nearby to eat is Wok To Go. read more

I am brand new to the area. A coworker suggested this place to me. It is a 1970s Chinese restaurant from my dreams. I ordered the sesame noodles, frankly bland. But the Mandarin style spring rolls were fresh, hot and totally delicious. They were crispy and filled with veggies. I ordered spicy eggplant as my entree. My wife and I have dined here probably at least 50 times since living in Harford County. The food is always consistently great. Sushi is very good as well as their regular entrees. I'm a sucker for their General Tsos Chicken which is crispy, white meat chunks doused in spicy sweet Tsos sauce. I've also had the Crispy Duck, Hong King Shrimp and Crispy Beef. All very good. When I ask at delivery why the differing prices, I always get this "um, I don't know. It's on your receipt". Um, no, all the receipt says is that you charged my credit card.
