I'm a HUGE Caesar fan, so when I saw the turkey caesar wrap on the menu, I absolutely had to try!! While it's a bit weird at first, because it's not the flavor I'm used to, it was so delicious. The dressing was creamy, the lettuce was fresh, and I absolutely loved the inclusion of crutons and the grilled wrap. It could've used more parm, but I always say that! I visited the Reading Terminal during the last week of the Flower Show, and made a quick stop at The Original Turkey. This is my second time trying the Turkey Salad Sandwich, both times on Rye Bread. The turkey salad is so good! Great flavor! But can we just look at this sandwich! It's big enough to have for two meals. The combo comes with a bag of chips and a drink. Service was great! Love going to the Reading Market and exploring all the restaurants and shops they have to offer. I have walked by this food counter more times than I care to count always saying I will stop by and check it out. On my last visit to Philly I did just that... and can I say WOW !!! I ordered the turkey platter with three sides (I chose stuffing, corn, and mashed potatoes) and cranberry sauce. I also opted for gravy, because you can't have Thanksgiving without gravy! We were there around 11:30am today (Saturday) but the place was not particularly busy. The customer in front of us asked for a sample of the Mac and Cheese so her daughter could taste it. When it was our turn at the counter I asked the same lady if we could try a sample of the stuffing (which was honestly the main thing we were looking forward to and had driven in from NJ to try)...Would you believe.... she didn't say a word or acknowledge us at all and grabbed THE LID of one of the sample/condiment cups and dipped out a small taste of stuffing onto this thin plastic lid... I guess she thought I was going to eat the sample directly off the lid, but instead I asked for a fork which she went to get with the most stank attitude and grumpy expression on her face (imagine the seahag from the old Popeye's cartoons for a visual).. The customer who had been ahead of us even reacted with surprise looking at what we got vs what she got... As I looked at the other employees behind the counter they all gave off a vibe of either being annoyed, angry or both. Now regarding the stuffing... It was as bland and flavorless as could be. We were expecting well/seasoned stuffing with a hint of sage or something like we have at our family gatherings. We might as well have been eating wet plain croutons. Getting through the Reading Terminal Market is a very specific experience and not for the faint of heart. I entered through a side door that already had a line out the door, due to a rib restaurant right inside, but after navigating through the crowd and every other line crowd within the market, finally found myself at the open seating section. There was no place to sit, so we did what many others were doing and watched those seated closely. The minute any group indicated they might be leaving, the table vultures (myself included) descended on them to see who could claim the table first. After a few foiled attempts on my part, I finally scored a table for 4, after which my party and I all agreed to tag team heading out on the floor for food. I was not in the first search and acquire mission and so had some time to plan what I was going to go for once it was my turn...and then I spotted...The Original Turkey counter RIGHT across the way. Many may not understand my love of turkey dinner. I love everything about it; the potatoes, the stuffing, the other sides, the gravy AND the cranberry sauce! Once I spotted The Original Turkey, there was no going back. As soon as the first round returned, I ran right over and ordered a turkey lunch with 2 sides (green beans and stuffing) with extra gravy and cranberry, and...it was everything I had hoped for and more! There was a generous amount of fresh turkey, the stuffing was perfect, the green beans were well seasoned and better than I had anticipated, gravy = 100% and they really did give me extra cranberry. I had been ordering our turkey dinner from here since 2013. They recently started vacuum wrapping (in heavy plastic) the turkey which was also cut into a few large pieces as opposed to smaller, easier to eat pieces. If you are a great Dane though, they're just the right size. This info was not disclose when I ordered. And if you are trying to ward off a vampire or have in-laws you wish would go elsewhere, be sure to converse with them after having OT's mashed potatoes, which are probably 80 percent garlic and little mashed potatoes. I want to add that the location is on a corner so more room to see everything and the menu is concise and not so many items that customers take a look time, thus...the line moves quickly. The staff is great, friendly hard working and efficient. When you compliment an item their faces show the appreciation and pride in their work. I got the platter and it was a massive portion of turkey with stuffing, mashed potato with gravy, and corn. Everything was seasoned well and tasty. I easily could have made two meals out of this or at least shared it, but yes I ate it all in one sitting and felt miserable for being so full. I asked the gentlemen behind the counter if they sold just the turkey by the pound, as their menu is made up of turkey sandwiches, bowls, salads, etc - and he gave me a resounding yes. So I order a 1/2 a pound of turkey... no wait... I stop him... 3/4 of a pound. He expertly carves up 3/4 lb of a turkey, put it in a little black tray and passes it onto the cashier. I think I paid something like 8-10 dollars for it. It was D-FREAKIN-LICIOUS. I can imagine this turkey on anyone of their sandwiches is just awesome. But me... I just ate it with a fork. I went to my car... ate about half. Then I went over and parked under the Love Park where there was an xmas market... and polished off the other half. Totally happy, totally satiated. I mean...
