Coming out of review retirement for this one! This review is for the vibe and service we received today around 12:30pm at the host stand. Food was actually good tho. So we walk in to a 50% empty restaurant, several open seats at the bar. Just two of us. tell the host we want to get a quick bite to eat. It was as if we asked her to borrow money the way she reacted. We were told no available tables, and there was a pair in front of us that had to be helped first. No quote on time. I then ask if we can sit at the bar, to which we were told no because there was someone in front of us. Ok still no quote on time. We step aside after putting our name down, then the pair in front of us tells the host they're leavings because it's taking too long. Great, we can be sat! Nope-they still need to check with a manager. I point out all of the empty tables and say how we just want to grab a quick bite. The host tells me she has a reservation in an hour, yes a single reservation. And this is why we can't sit at a table. So I ask again, can we sit at the bar. She says no, they need to reset the bar. Ok we step to the side again. Another couple comes in behind us and is told they don't have any tables (despite the restaurant being 50% empty) Another ten minutes goes by, we go back up and ask "typically how long does it take to reset to bar seats?" she says she'll ask someone to go do it now. What about the previous 10 minutes? Ok so they go and reset the bar, we sit down. We eat and are out the door within 45 minutes. Good food, bartender was great and attentive. When we get up, all of the empty tables were still empty-nobody sat down in them. I just don't understand the "we are too cool and hype to give a F about treating people the way we would want to be treated" Like, we are choosing to spend our dollars at your establishment when Laser Wolf exists a few blocks away (far superior food, vibes, and customer service). Treat customers better! Sure you're a hot/hype restaurant, but if your entire FOH team chooses to continue to treat patrons like this-you won't be hot forever. Save your money, go to Laser Wolf if you want to be treated with kindness and hospitality.

Tiny mishap on booking the wrong date was quickly fixed and we were sat in the outdoor area on a busy Tuesday evening. Great vibes with friendly waitstaff. Props to Hannah and the food runners! The Poet was a delicious choice for a drink and even the bourbon forward one hit the spot. Standouts were the roasted lamb and the cauliflower for me. The branzino was so crispy and flavorful as well. Would love to come back for a larger party and experience the inside dining or chef's table experience!

Really great food and such a fun vibe! You honestly can't go wrong with most things on the menu. The samke hara was a standout-perfectly seasoned and super flavorful. The tabbouleh fell a bit short for mei- it needed more seasoning and a brighter citrus kick. The banana pudding dessert was also something we could've skipped. Everything else, though, was fantastic. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

I'm firmly in the camp of top notch. Visiting Fishtown and the vibrant crowd started the experience. The restaurant is welcoming and is ready to greet. On a Wednesday night it was busy, crowded even, but short of what are likely packed houses like in the weekend. The place is spacious and when seated not too loud with a good backdrop of instrumental vibes humming overhead. A series of staff service the table starting with a primary server. We went à la carte as opposed to the chef's menu simply because that variety is a good bit more food than we wanted. The baba ghanoush is simply smoky fantastic. The Fatteh might bo among the best dishes I've had, certainly a great surprise. The lamb kebab is so dense, rich and flavorful it might just be the one think you'll remember. The prawns are plentiful and peeled while the head and tail come for the ride. We were celebrating an anniversary and our server celebrated our night by bringing prosecco! A wonderful night!

Wonderful tasting menu where you can pick an additional Mezza dip along 5 pre-set classic Lebanese dips. The entrees are diverse and flavorful, especially the fish dishes (filet and salmon). Among 4 people, we were able to try half the menu. The stand out item was dessert - a rhubarb ice cream dish topped with some krispies.

Came here for a weekend date night and they only had the $78 prix fixe menu. Ambience was stunning and service was great. Food was delicious! I loved the prawns entree they had. For dessert, I liked the chocolate cake with tahini and pistachio. It's a bit of the salted instead of sweet side so it balances depending on your preference.

Suraya appeared on my timeline as a suggestion of places to eat in Philadelphia. Well I'm glad it did. It was a fantastic foodie experience. In case you all don't know, Suraya is a Lebanese restaurant serving some very tradition and unique dishes. When you walk in, you are greeted by a massive chandelier in the center of what looks like a family dining room. There is a barista to the right to get coffee or tea or mezzo- style dishes of hummus, taboule, and more. On to the stars of the show- THE FOOD. First up was the Fattouch. This is a salad with raw vegetables served in a lemon-pomegranate vinaigrette along with a warm, toasted pita that was served in a brown paper bag. It also had fresh mint on top which gave it a very nice flavor. 5/5 Next were the main dishes: Samke Harra- is grilled branzino filet. It was excellent. It was light and crispy with the perfect char. Underneath, was a spicy sauce of red peppers, walnuts, pine nuts, cilantro, and parsley. You have to get this. CHEF's KISS. 5/5 The Samke Al Malouf was a grilled king salmon kabob. The salmon was juicy and had an amazing aroma. It was coated with shallots, crispy potatoes, chilis, herbs, and farro tarator. It was beautifully plated and paired will with the rice and salad. The Kafta Kebab was the next thing I tried. This is served with charred onion and pepper as well as humous. The ground beef was seasoned very well, as was all of the food. The touch of mint with this dish was a great addition. Don't be mad at me y'all, but I can't remember the name of the dessert, but it had bananas in it and pomegranate. It was wonderful. Bananas have a very distinct and unique taste, but you could not tell this was made with banana at all. When you go, ask your server about this dessert item. I'm not sure if it's new because it's not on the online menu. 5/5 I'm happy Suraya showed up on my timeline. It was an excellent choice for dining. TIl we eat again .....

So authentic! I love the decor and ambiance of this place. My friend and I set at the Chef's Counter for dinner which was a great experience. We loved the open kitchen and team camaraderie witnessed. We also got to see the most frequently ordered dishes which gave us ideas for our next visit since we are obviously coming back! The food was excellent. Clean, fresh and well prepared. My favorite is their Kunefe-hands down the best in the city!

I have been here for dinner, brunch, dessert and drinks in the dining area and for just drinks in the outdoor courtyard during summer. This time we visited their marketplace just to have the lebanese chai latte and pastries. I have been eyeing the rose pistachio cruller since the beginning of time and finally made it out to Suraya on a Saturday morning. Their pastry case is a delight to look at. So many scrumptious pastries makes it so difficult to choose! We got a couple of chai lattes, rose pistachio cruller, chocolate halva croissant and the pistachio kouign amman. I love baked goods - I go to every pop up, farmers' market, I am the kind of person who will travel to another city or country just to try their baked speciality so trust me when I say that these are one of the best pastries I have had. Everything was perfectly balanced and tasted exactly like it should - the rose pistachio cruller was an exquisite mix of rose fragrance and pistachio flavor while the pistachio kouign amman had a distinct pistachio flavor to it. Surprisingly and fortunately so, their pastries are not overwhelmingly sweet as is the case with many middle eastern desserts like baklava. For me, a lot of the flavors seemed very familiar and reminiscent of sweets back home. Suraya never disappoints!

One of my favorite restaurants in Philly! Absolutely love all of their dishes. We have come here several times already and faves are always their dips with pita and the yellowtail tartar is sooo good. They offer a tasting as well if you would rather do that than à la carte. Garden seating is amazing if the weather is nice but their interior is beautiful too. Service has always been excellent as well! Can't recommend it enough and we will definitely we back.

This review is for brunch only. I went to Suraya for a friend's birthday and had a great experience. We got a table outside and the ambiance was lively on a Saturday afternoon. There was a prefix menu for brunch that included different dips and pita as the starting apps and a list of entrees you can choose from. The dips tasted fresh and were very refreshing. For my entree, I opted for the chicken shish touk that came with charred onion and peppers. It was filling and paired well with the dips we already had.

I LOVED the experience overall. The ambiance was AMAZING!! but the ONLY problem I have is that if they are charging three people separately than they should bring three separate servings of each item, the picture posted was the appetizers shared amongst 3 people but we each were charged $78! but when it comes to flavor MINDBLOWING!! everythign was SO DELICIOUS!!!! They are extremely creative with the way they brought the flavors of Levant and made a little fusion with other flavors! every single item was a pleasant surprise to my tastebuds!!

Suraya has been on my list for years, and it finally happened! My husband took me here for Valentine's Day brunch, and it truly lived up to the hype. Reservations are a must. We did the tasting menu ($42 per person) and also added the pastry basket. Highly recommend doing both. Everything was amazing, from the spreads to the main dishes. High-quality ingredients, so fresh and full of flavor. The pita bread comes out hot and freshly baked (so good). The lamb kabab was tasty and well-seasoned. The chicken kabab was a little dry, but still okay. The pastries are a must. You really can't go wrong, but my favorites were the olive oil cake, donut, and sticky bun. Ambiance-wise, the place is huge with plenty of space, making it perfect for any occasion, brunch, date night, celebrations, you name it. The inside is very cute, aesthetic, and beautifully designed, warm and inviting without feeling crowded. Service was excellent! very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Overall, I'm very impressed. This spot absolutely lives up to expectations, and I can't wait to come back.

    Ask the Community - Suraya

Is there a corkage fee for byob?

They didn't charge me anything to open my bottle.

Are the kids under 5 allowed?

I've seen infants there so I'd assume yes. Would recommend going on the early side just because some of the spaces are tight so you'll probably get a more friendly space.

Is anything in the menu halal?

No, they don't have anything halal in the menu

    When do they serve drinks?

They serve drinks when they are open. It's always on the menu

Are any of the meats Halal or Kosher?

I called the restaurant at 215-302-1900 and the staff confirmed the meat is NOT HALAL.

What is the chef's counter? Is it essentially the bar?

No, it's actually a counter that directly faces the kitchen, so you can watch all of the action! I've eaten there once (out of my 4 times at Suraya), and it was really interesting and kind of fun to see EVERYTHING that goes on! Probably not great if…

    Where is parking?

There's a lot near the outdoor seating area

Do you take walk ins or reservations are must?

    Reservations are currently required!

Are dogs allowed on the outdoor patio during dinner?

Likely not unless a service animal. I would call and ask the restaurant though to be sure!

Which entrance is currently used for pickup orders?

    The main entrance!

It's getting cold, are there heat lamps etc for the garden seating?

    Tons

I tried to make a brunch reservation but only dinner times came up. Is this restaurant taking brunch reservation?

I'm pretty sure they're only doing dinner right now bc of Covid

    What to get?

I recommend going for lunch: Chicken kabob sandwich, baba ganoush and pistachio crueller

My fiance has a nut allergy. Would this be a problem here?

Hi Julia, the waitstaff asks if there are any allergies at the table when they greet you (the staff is all incredible here), and will point out dishes to avoid and dishes that can be altered. It should not be a major issue. My friend has a tree nut…

I have a reservation next week and I'm vegan, is there decent options for me?

They are prepared to accommodate vegan or gluten free. It's a scripted question from the server and they will provide alternative preparations.

    What is keto here?

Nearly any of the dinner entrees can be keto - basically grilled meats and fish with a side of veggies, and the seasonings they use are natural, no sugar, and super tasty.

    Baladi vs abu sayf?

i just had the baladi last week as part of the Taste of Suraya sampler and can tell you it's amazing. you won't be disappointed. i have not had one thing there in my 3 visits that was not outstanding

Is falafel on the dinner menu? I only see it on the lunch menu.

It's just on the lunch menu.

Can one have dinner outside in the garden?

Yup absolutely, there is a family style table in the middle, and then also smaller tables throughout!

    What's the dress code?

Casual! The lighting and the flames from the open kitchen is kind of sexy, though so if it's Date Night, don't be shy to step it up a notch

Middle Eastern food…read morenow occupies a far more prominent place in global dining culture, but Zahav was well ahead of that expansion, especially in the United States. Alongside internationally influential figures such as Yotam Ottolenghi and Eyal Shani, Michael Solomonov helped introduce a wider audience to the depth, variety, and sophistication of modern Israeli cuisine. Philadelphia is incredibly fortunate that he and his longtime partner, Steve Cook, built their defining restaurant here. My wife and I visited for an early dinner around 5:00 p.m. and chose the prix fixe menu, which remains one of the most memorable meals I have had in Philadelphia. The mezze was exceptionally fresh, the hummus completely lived up to its reputation, and the pita with za'atar was delectable. I also remember the rice (tahdig), chicken, and famous pomegranate lamb shoulder being delicious, while a cold Goldstar beer was a simple but perfect touch. Looking back at the food photographs still makes me hungry. Zahav creates a genuine sense of arrival before the first plate reaches the table. The elevated entrance sits above the surrounding shrubs and landscaping, making the restaurant feel pleasantly removed from the street, and we entered along the side beside the patio. Inside, the stone surfaces, stained glass, and warm finishes evoke Jerusalem's Old City without crossing into theatrical territory, while transparent windows along the kitchen reveal the work taking place behind them. Because we arrived while it was still light outside, natural light filled the restaurant; photos taken by other diners suggest that the fixtures create an entirely different glow after dark against the Jerusalem-inspired stone palette. As we entered, Solomonov was standing beside the pita oven to the left, and we were honestly a bit starstruck. We occasionally see him around Philadelphia, but watching someone with his global reputation doing such basic, physical work alongside the staff was especially meaningful. He struck me as a servant leader who remains close to the craft and the people responsible for delivering the experience each night. The fantastic service throughout dinner reflected that same combination of confidence, warmth, and attention. Solomonov's culinary talent is matched by a rare instinct for marketing, brand building, and community presence. His social media, cookbooks, retail products, and appearances in Netflix and YouTube food programming have extended his influence well beyond the restaurant, and he is as cool and charismatic as he is gifted in the culinary arts. A subtler strength across CookNSolo is the group's command of operations and technology, from its reservation systems and point-of-sale experience to the digital integration that guests may barely notice. Solomonov and Cook have created distinct concepts that operate with discipline without losing their individual character, and that balance between imagination and execution may be the most impressive part of what they have built. That judgment also extends to where CookNSolo chooses to open. The arrival of one of its restaurants can serve as an early vote of confidence in a neighborhood or development, attracting attention and signaling the cultural momentum that often precedes broader investment and excitement. Laser Wolf's presence in Philadelphia and at The Hoxton in Williamsburg embodies that philosophy, and I am eager to visit both locations, as well as Jaffa Bar in Philadelphia and Aviv in Miami. Zahav deserves to remain the focus here, while the broader quality of the CookNSolo ecosystem will unfold through the many other reviews I still need to write, including Goldie, K'Far, Dizengoff, Federal Donuts, Merkaz, and others. !

We were split between a fish dish and grape leaves and ultimately decided on the fish, but our waitress brought a small portion of the grape leaves for us anyways. They always do something special like that, and it's an amazing touch that makes the experience so special! I like that they've changed it so each person picks a main, as it gives you the opportunity to try more things. Their signature lamb shoulder is great (and I have hated every other lamb I've had), and the fish dishes are always excellent. The best thing imo, though, is the crispy Persian rice! Marrakesh is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Philadelphia!!…read more I wish it existed in more cities. This is a multicourse journey through Marrakesh that cannot be repeated anywhere else except for maybe in the real Marrakesh. From the Bastilla pastry, which is DIVINE, to the salads, the chicken and kebabs... all the way to the baklava and tea.... there is no bad bite at Marrakesh. The owners are welcoming and super amenable and make you feel like you're coming home every single time you visit. It's in a odd location, and you may feel like you are making a questionable life decision as you walk up the alley to the door, but when you arrive, you realize that in fact, it was one of the best decisions you've made in years!! When you enter, it's like you've been transported to a beautiful room in Morocco. The music, the decor, even the authentic seating make for an unforgettable experience. And if you get really lucky, you also get to see the belly dancers who are top notch! There is not a single thing I can think of to say that Marrakesh needs to improve. It is a one of a kind experience that I feel everyone should have at least once in life!

I'm looking forward to trying that my next return. But I couldn't say no to their chicken after almost a decade I highly recommend checking out this business for a delicious family style cooked meal.
