I love fresh pastries and will not pass the opportunity to try something new. Also, the cute name captured my attention. The Other Paw is a coffee shop with fresh pastries baked on the premises. I wanted something that I haven't seen in US and got the Butter Maple Pecan Danish for $3 CAN (about $2.40 USD). Unlike US Danish, it's thinner and less sweet. The nutty topping was delicious. The danish was on the drier side but still good. They also have sandwiches, salads, desserts and coffee. This Paw is located along the main street and just across the street from the train station. During our recent visit, Gayle went savory (some sort of jalapeno cheese bread), while I went sweet (raspberry white chocolate scone). Gayle's gobbled up choice didn't make it to our train (Via Canadian towards Vancouver), while I saved mine for coffee on board. Unfortunately, Gayle and I just scratched the surface of this place as there's cakes, pastries, and other goodies (plus coffee). I wish we could come back. There's also the main Bear's Paw a few blocks away, which shouldn't make any difference, except for maybe the size of the line-up. read more

Love the smells when you walk into both of these locations. Fresh baked goods and coffee brewing. There is not one item on the menu that isn't amazing. There is often a line up. You have to remember it's a bakery and they make your drink to order (minus drip coffee) so be patient the little wait is worth it. The displays of cakes and pastries is inviting. Cinnamon roll, though, ended up reminding me more of dough and less of awesomeness, which was a bit disappointing as I really love a good cinnamon roll. ABSOLUTELY GREAT SANDWICHES! After a morning filled with driving, hiking and wild animals - we decided to come to this cafe as it is approved by OPRAH herself :) We ordered the Old Town Panini (correct me if i called it the wrong name) It is delicious, savorty, and warm. The sandwich is filled with a generous amount of prosciutto arugula! I know that doesn't seem like any special sandwich but I am telling you, this was delicious! the bread was crispy and buttery, and the also add a roasted pepper in the sandwich. This sandwich made the wait and super crowded small cafe worth all the annoyance :) We also had their Marshmallow latte. It was a bit underwhelming but I was glad that it wasn't too too sugary! I VERY MUCH prefer patronizing small, locally owned/operated businesses--but the fact this business (and, oddly, one of the other main coffee shops in Jasper) uncharacteristically don't offer WiFi made me go to spend my money enriching the shareholders of the major, national chain coffee shop instead. I always love this place. It's sometimes easy to confuse The Other Paw with The Bear's Paw. Here is your tip, the other Paw makes sandwiches and other meals, while the Bear's Paw mostly sells take-out baked goods. Also The Other Paw is the one on the main road through Jasper while the Bear's Paw is on a corner in Jasper. Either choice is a good choice and the baking is wonderful. read more

The portions are HUGE! We wanted something savory and sweet, so got the sticky bun and the jalapeño pretzel from the bakery. We pretty much left half of each item because it was way too much for us. As far as the taste, the sticky bun was sticky (ha), and pretty sweet. The pretzel was the winner, though - not nearly as dense as we thought it'd be, making it a perfect start to our morning. In addition to bakery items, they have a case full of desserts, including a number of square tarts and cake. They also have sandwiches, salads and wraps, including a couple of prepackaged ones that would be good on the hiking trail. Spent some time at The Other Paw today! Stopped during the day to pick up some drinks as we checked out the town. My husband got a latté and I picked up the chocolate chai. Both were awesome. Later in the day we took our cribbage board and ordered another latté and a hot chocolate. It was so nice to sit there. The staff is very friendly. We didn't eat anything but all the food looked fabulous. They also have photos of the cakes they do for weddings and parties. I would totally recommend checking out The Other Paw. read more

Pluses: free WiFi with no sign in, beautiful view, quick debit, cheapest latte I've found in town so far (but small), free chocolate covered espresso bean on my to go cup, some gluten free options (which are worse than wheat for most of us, don't get me started... One salad *might* be grain free). Minuses: staff have to pay for their own drinks (??), uses syrup in their mochacchinos (no mochas, oddly), latte actually a cappuccino, slow line, debit in a really odd place forces you to push other folks in line away to use it, below average English for both of the staff I interacted with. Really nice, just time consuming when there's a huge lineup (like there was when I was there), latte wasn't very good (how can you burn espresso? Horrible aftertaste). We always stop at The Other Paw when we're in Jasper. In none covid times it's packed, but the atmosphere is cool and the seating area in the back is great. In covid times standing spots are marked with tape and they let fewer people in, but it still feels uncomfortably close. The coffees and teas are delicious, and the food is hit or miss. The white chocolate raspberry scones are a classic, but are a bit dry and definitely benefit from being heated. We're big fans of the Aloha muffins, apple squares, and cinnamon buns. If you order a wrap (not my favorite) or other hot food your wait can be quite long for a cafe type environment (we waited over 15 minutes). read more

A great place to pick up some fortifying snacks or have a meal before a day of hiking. Whatever you get, always end your meal with a cinnamon bun. They are big enough for sharing if you've had a sizeable meal and is the perfect dessert. The sugar coating has somehow baked itself to a caramel-toffee texture which makes it amazing. Better yet, don't' share it at all and take it to go for a snack after a good couple hours of hiking. There is a cozy room in the back with a fireplace to curl up with one of their many hot drinks. Decent place for your morning caffeine fix. The chocolate espresso scone that we ordered was absolutely tasteless, so we decided to skip getting a sandwich for later in the day and opted instead to buy one elsewhere. Not sure how fresh everything could be, as they seemed to have lots of everything on display, without the necessary number of customers to clear it all out. This place is basically a coffee shop / bakery. The reason it's called The Other Paw is because the owners also operate The Bear Paw bakery just two blocks away. This one is located more in the center of town mixed among Jasper's quaint restaurants and gift shops. The inside has a somewhat hippy non-corporate grungy vibe to it. I enjoyed the back room. The back room makes for a good place to pull out a laptop, relax, and kill some time surfing the web. My beverage and dessert square treat were both fine. No complaints there. From what I can tell they do bake some items on site at this location. I'm sure whatever they don't make here they get from their mother ship bakery. Just from the names alone, my guess is that one opened first. read more

We had 3 things here: a very stale chocolate danish (supposedly fresh from the morning but it tasted several days old), a mediocre brie panini, and a horrible wrap. The butter chicken wrap was the daily special. Oh my god it was absolutely abysmal. It was cold bland ""butter chicken"" with rice, wrapped in so much tortilla. The ratio of tortilla and rice to actual chicken was like 6:1. You end up with so much bland and flavorless tortilla. And it was expensive too. Possibly THE worst wrap I've ever had, and I've had some pretty bad ones during college. If they don't know how to make butter chicken, why even bother putting it on the menu? I guess that's our mistake for thinking they'd have ANY notion of remotely ethnic foods in Jasper. I mean, the locals were raving about some sushi in a supermarket nearby, we popped in and it looked like the worst sushi ever. But even in terms of western foods, failsafe dishes like a simple burger, sandwich, or pizza, those were even bad. The bar is really low in Jasper. If you can help it, pack your own food, don't waste your money. This far into the mountains, honesly don't expect good food. read more

Nice ambiance and pleasant employees. My primary complaint was the employee not listening when I'd specifically asked for my items in separate bags, and put a sticky bun together with a dry scone in a bag while mentioning that's what's she's doing so quickly I didn't have time to voice my objection. It may seem kind of silly and sure it might be better for the environment which I get, but it makes it much more difficult to keep your hands clean while driving. Not to mention I don't appreciate it when I'm ignored while an overpriced place takes my money. Food was mediocre, but sticky bun was great. In summary, I recommend the place for the ambiance, but stay on your toes to make sure you get what you ask for because I'm not sure they'll be able to deliver otherwise. read more

The Other Paw is a pretty overrated place. While I do think some of their baked goods are decent, most of them are just okay and their coffee is pretty ordinary. I'm not trying to be a coffee snob here, but seriously - how difficult is it to make a decent cappuccino? The espresso based drinks just taste of milk, the mochaccinno is a complete waste and the internet, though free for one hour, is extremely slow and keeps getting disconnected. I'd much rather sit at the coin laundry and pay for internet. I have no clue what the hullabaloo over this place is all about. I guess there aren't any other options in Jasper for morning coffee and baked goodies and they do have that going for themselves. read more

We stopped here a couple of mornings for coffee while staying in Jasper and man it's one busy place! The caramel macchiatos were seriously sweet with a serious slug of caramel syrup hiding at the bottom of the cup and the breakfast sandwiches were a little bland. 20 minutes of free wifi provided with each meal purchase however the couple of times we where there neither of us could manage to connect any of our devices so the might be having an issue with their router at the moment. If stopping for lunch I recommend the soup over the sandwiches, while the sandwiches were quite bland the soup was very tasty and the bowls are filled to the brim, special mention to the tequila spiked chicken soup which was so delicious my husband kept dipping his sandwich into it to add flavor! read more

This place is very busy, which is probably good for the bottom line but not so good for the customers. We ordered a dozen scones and two cinnamon rolls, along with four hot chocolates and six coffees - we're a large group - all to go. The rolls did not make it into the bag, which we didn't find out until we got back to the hotel. I hate that. Coffee is decent, lattes are very good (which I had earlier in the day). The scones, no so much. I had a cranberry-orange scone and it literally tasted like bisquick. The white chocolate rasberry scone was better. All in all they are good and have decent stuff but need to work on customer service and the quality of some of their stuff. read more

I was in Jasper for work and accidentally tripped over this place and I love it! A great selection of hand made sandwiches, baking and coffee! Parking is always tricky in Jasper, especially on a nice day. Myself and my co-worker had lunch here. I had a sandwich, she had a pasta salad and one of their famous Raspberry White Chocolate scones. I had a friend from Edmonton comment that he wanted me to bring him back one! He said that they sell the ingredients to make them back at your home. My sandwich was fantastic. My iced latte was very good as well. They don't have Lactaid milk here, you have your choice of almond or soy (they were out of almond) I think my favorite things about this place was the whimsical taxidermy; it looked like mounted characters of Dr. Seuss! I loved the "graffiti" in the bathroom as well. They were all great clips of common sayings and poems. Regular graffiti was discouraged! A really nice shop inside but my latte was scalding hot which spoils the taste. I didn't try any of the baked goods but they did look really good. The bathroom had no TP, no soap and no towels, but it did have a sign that employees must wash hands! A mandatory stop when my hiking groups go to Jasper. You can pick up a breakfast to stay or to go, and a nice selection of real coffees, and get a fresh-made sandwich and/or baking to take with you for lunch on the trails. . Probably one of the reason that the tacky commercial joints, like McDonalds. bombed in Jasper. NOT Starbucks (thank God!) - if that's what you're looking for go to downtown Toronto. The Other Paw has become my most frequent stop in Jasper. Located across from the train station, it's an easy place to pop in for a coffee (your choice of four blends, including one organic) or, better yet, a yummy chocolate chai (!) and a buttery, fresh croissant. Friendly staff don't make you feel like an annoying tourist, and they've got the dailies from nearby cities hanging on poles to peruse while you hang out. The glass cabinet filled with fresh baking, like danishes and cinnamon rolls, is tempting; a nearby shelf holds day-olds on offer for discount prices. read more
