There was a line out the door when we got to the Bear's Paw. Popular places are often very good places, and Bear's Paw is a very good place. When it was my turn I got their Sticky Bun and Apple Square. There is limited seating inside. Even though it was very busy we scored a few counter seats, which allowed me to enjoy my sticky bun and White Mocha before heading to Maligne Lake. I liked them both, I'd rate them as about average. What I really liked was my Apple Square that I ate hours later. It was crumbly with a lot of apple flavor. Service was efficient and fine. We are glad we stopped in. read more

I went to Jasper back in September. I had to check out this Bakery as I saw a lots of good reviews online, and it was REALLY GREAT! I went there for breakfast at 8am, and the bakery was packed. The place was not so big, but I love the "wood" vibe. Their coffee is really good, very smooth. They had a good variety of pastry. I am a fan of scone so I ordered the spicy scone and the cheese scone. The spicy scone was way too much for me, too spicy I can't finished it. But the cheese scone, I loved it! Definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Jasper. read more

Our experience at Bear's Paw Bakery was overall unfortunately a bit disappointing. We came early in the morning, which was quite busy. The pastries themselves didn't taste particularly fresh or flavorful, and the coffee was a bit bland. Almost every time I go to Jasper, I have to go there! I like the decoration and interior design and I like their products! It has happened a couple of times that some items that I bought were a bit dry! But I still like the taste of their pastries! The coffee is ok and not on top of my list! On the weekends and holidays, the place may be a bit more chaotic and busier than usual which I always take as a good sign of good quality! Great coffee and bake shop in Jasper. Went here at least twice before we went for our tours and hikes. Even Oprah recommended this place. Really loved the rhubarb squares and lemon cranberry squares. My husband and I stopped at Bear Paw Bakery one morning before heading out to do a glacier tour. This place is definitely very popular so I would recommend getting there early, if possible. They did also have an option for ordering ahead, but I do believe it is a limited menu. We decided to each get our morning caffeine fix - I ordered their signature fall flavored latte with oat milk. It was delicious! For a bite to eat, we decided to share a cheese bun, sausage roll, almond croissant, and Bear Paw. The cheese bun and sausage roll were definitely better warmed up and they do have a microwave available for you to use. The almond croissant and the Bear paw were delicious. They have a huge variety of pastries and baked items. We saw a lot of people also ordering some of their sandwiches and breads to-go but we did not try any of those. Inconsistent bakery items, TERRIBLY slow, inefficient service. It feels like they intentionally serve slooooooooowly to increase the hype here. Line out the door and the one person serving anyone takes minutes in between each customer to move around pastries, refill cookie jars, etc. while the coffee guy isn't doing a thing and the cashier CLEARLY isn't either as noone is ready to ring up. Why not get the cashier to do the moving and refilling when he is just shooting the breeze instead? Bread was fresh as were most of the pastries (not the sticky bun - that one was stale). Bait and switch on the sizes of pastries - apple strudel looked generous but when we got our slice in the bag, it was actually half the size of what was in the case. Would not return. Bear's Paw Bakery has been a favorite local spot of mine for as long as I have visited the town of Jasper. The first time I've been there goes back to 2008, and then later on when I moved to Edmonton and visited Jasper. Usually when I go is to buy a hot beverage, but I have bought pastries as well - fresh pastries are made from scratch at both locations. A pastry with a delicious make a great post ski (or other outdoor activity) treat. The great thing is that you can order cakes for special events. If you fancy sandwiches instead of pastries, Bear's Paw has a full menu of sandwiches available to order on location or in advance!! Definitely a spot to try or return to!! read more

We saw high ratings for this bakery online and we were very excited to try. We went on a Monday morning and it was super busy with a line out the door, so I was expecting a lot from their pastries and coffee. My flat white soy latte seemed to have regular dairy milk in it as my stomach was not feeling great even though I ate a lactaid pill. We tried the sausage roll, health bar, white chocolate raspberry scone, crossiant and the blueberry muffin. All of them were mediocre especially for the wait times, the only ones I would recommend getting are the white chocolate raspberry scone and blueberry muffin. Soup, featured latte, certain baked goods) or if some things are sold out already, so you're stuck waiting in line for 30 minutes and only learning after from the cashier that the item you want is unavailable. Fairly small bakery / cafe located just off one of Jaspers downtown. The Sticky Buns are to die for! They are excellent! We bought 2 , we should have bought 6! There's a line up in the morning outside the door but don't worry, they've made lots! Likewise if you wait a bit before showing up ( say about 45min after it opens), the crowds have mostly gone. read more

I remember visiting this cute cafe & bakery before the pandemic maybe back in 2017 and I am so happy to return and see it thriving and successful! It seems the interior has changed a lot. It seems there's a lot more open space now. There's a lot of baked items to look at. You may need a moment to look over everything because they all look so good! It's the little coffee / bakery stores such as these that make Jasper so special. It has a certain "mom & pop" feel to it that you won't get at Starbucks or Tim Hortons. If you visit, try to come before 7 AM since they seem to be popular and get crowded. This way you can get a nice seat to enjoy. If you're up super early and about to leave town for a long drive, stop here first and grab your coffee and a pastry (I recommend the spicy sausage roll to keep you awake). There's a microwave to heat up your morning treats, pour your own coffee from the dispensers. You'll be in and out really fast so you can make it to lunch in the next town (as long as the roads aren't flooded) There aren't many places at 6am around here but this one was worth getting up early for. The stars are for the rhubarb square which was very good, I think a tad bit too much topping but still good. Sadly, the bran muffin was awful and dry. We stopped in to get some dessert after an early dinner. They were closing shortly after we got there so they were running low on or were out of a lot of things. We split a rhubarb bar and a slice of white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. The the rhubarb bar was really good. I would have liked more rhubarb and less topping, but it was still quite good. The cheesecake was a different story. It was the worst cheesecake I've ever had. There was a tiny bit of white chocolate on the end and it was topped with raspberry. The issue was the cheesecake itself. It was hard and dry. It tasted like a block of cream cheese that they got hardened and wasn't mixed with anything else. This place is a Jasper staple. We always stop here before heading back home from our stay. It the perfect spot to grab a coffee for the road and some delicious baked goods to go with it. My kids love the strawberry Nutella croissant my go to is always the white chocolate scone. But this time I also tried the sticky toffee cinnamon bun and it was amazing!! I think this place is overrated, or maybe it is considered good in Jasper. I have bookmarked this place based on the reviews, plus it was also recommended by the staff on VIA Rail. There are two outlets, one which is like opposite the station and the other (this one) a couple of blocks away, but they are very close to each other. The line was pretty long when we were there as people were getting their coffee fix together with their baked goods. The scone was recommended so I had the dill, feta and cheddar scone instead of the sweet version with raspberry and white chocolate. I also bought the sticky cinnamon bun as it looked so tempting. Unfortunately the taste of both were just ok. The scone was crumbly and dry. What I really did not like was the astringent aftertaste. The sticky bun was better but it was very oily. If you have it to go, the paper bag will be soaked through so beware of that. Maybe the other items will be much better. read more

I couldn't just pick one so I got a Bear Paw without raisins (which is great they offer with our without). I also got a cheese bun. One of the worst experiences that we've had. After the scenic drive from Banff to Jasper, We took a pit stop in the town before heading back. Our friends got the mocha and we asked for the latte for here in a ceramic cup. The staff was very rude. Someone else picked up the mocha and we had to wait longer for the coffee to arrive after notifying them. Our latte came in to go cup. When we inquired, she didn't seem apologetic or offer to change it. The coffee wasn't that great. Expensivr and price for the coffee was definitely not worth it. Love this place! Definitely one of my favorite places in Jasper! I came to Bear's Paw literally every day I was at Jasper. I love pastries and I feel like this place makes delicious pastries at a very reasonable price! I would highly recommend trying the Bear's Paw to try out their specialty, though the sticky bun were even better especially when heated up using the microwave in their store. I also tried their spicy and non-spicy sausage roll and thought the spicy sausage roll tasted really good! The line does get pretty long in the mornings so make sure to account for that if you're just passing by Bear's Paw for a quick morning breakfast before starting your day. While on a motor coach bus tour of the Canadian Rockies, our tour guide leader took us into Jasper for the day, and pointed out Bear"s Paw Bakery and he enthused on the great pastries. We had a few hours in Jasper. Naturally we made a point of coming into the pastry shop #1) the cute name and #2) we're lovers of pastries. Looked into the pastry display case - wasn't sure what I wanted to buy as we just had lunch. We decided on pastries as an afternoon snack. Got two bear paws shaped liked bear paws. Dense and heavy. Also got a crescent shaped pastry chocolate filled with chocolate swirl atop. Around 4pm same day back at our lodge I decided to consume my crescent shaped pastry. More like a dense turnover. Had lots of chocolate filled inside. The chocolate made the pastry. The shell was oily and crumbly. Hubby & daughter didn't eat the bear paws. Decided to save them for the next day. At breakfast the next morning we took the bear paws out of the brown paper bag. Well, the bear paws were hard as a rock and was not edible. Dry, dry, dry. And lacked taste. Not much cinnamon or anything else to speak of. Dunked in coffee. Still didn't help. Just baked flour & water. I have to say I've eaten lots of day old pastries in my time, and none were as bad as these.
