Not really sure how to feel about The Other Place. On one hand, there's really nothing wrong with it, but on the other hand, there were some minor things that made me rethink wanting to come back here regularly. Very sports-bar like atmosphere, but it was relatively quiet when we came here. I don't think I'd want to come during a game. Service was okay. I don't really remember any bad service, but I don't really remember any exceptional service. It was about on-par with what I'd expect; drinks were refilled quickly, the order was taken well, everything was accurate. Etc. Food itself was pretty good. Both myself and my partner enjoyed what we ordered. Both of us were impressed by the portion sizes too. The cost wasn't too high, and neither of us could finish what we had ordered. I really liked my Fettuccine Alfredo, but it also was literally drowned in oil and butter. When I was half-way through my dish, there was a visible "pond" of oil and butter at the bottom of the plate. It was a bit disgusting to look at, but the food did taste really, really good. I can't imagine how unhealthy it was, though - which means we probably won't come back too often. As a slight complaint, they serve their drinks in a plastic, branded cups. For some reason, the "plastic" aspect of it really bothers me. They are very clean, but they feel like "cheap" cups. I wasn't impressed by the glassware. Price ended up being pretty good. About on-par with these casual dine-in restaurants. About $30 for the two of us to go out to eat. read more

I ordered a cup of chili and a Cod nugget basket. The food was good and so was the service. When I received my bill both items were listed at a higher price than the menu listed them at. It's not about the .75 difference but the fact that both items were higher on the bill. It's the principle of a business raising their prices and not reflecting that change on the menu. We enjoy comparing nachos when we're out to eat, and these were abysmal. Could have been an off day, but they were very disappointing. Watery salsa caused chips to be soggy by the time they were served to us, and the rest of the ingredients were kind of slopped on. Pizza didn't remedy the meal, it was very bland. will be a while until we're back. read more

We meet friends here very frequently for lunch but mostly dinner during the week. The food is always very good, the wait staff is so courteous, accurate and friendly. The surroundings are comfy but well worn. Recent updates to the bar added more high top areas for drinkers. The vinyl flooring in the bar shound be replaced and it would behoove them to remove the steps and redo them with a more shallow rise as they are very steep, 3 steps instead of Two would be helpful. Stopped in for a taco pizza, first time back in the area in 25yrs, and it was as awesome as I remembered. Wish I could've grabbed a second one on my way out of town, but they weren't open that early. I will definitely be back for more the next time I'm in town. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! Three of us went out for a special lunch and immediately noticed everything on the menu went up around $4 in cost. Friend got tenderloin which was just a big hunk of deep fried chicken breast. Other friend got a cheddar burger - looked just OK. All the fries were overdone. I ordered a Rueben "heaped with corned beef" and almost laughed when it came. The beef was tiny little chips sort of smeared on the rye bread. Was so gross. My cole slaw was tasteless snd had been around so long it was limp. Atrocious for what we paid. read more

Good Lasagna and a good staff as well. The Lasagna is a good sized portion and has mushrooms in it... The Mrs didn't realize that and I ended up with a bunch more. Good for me but she was a little bummed. Onion Rings were okay but just a tad greasy... I liked the dipping sauce, kind of a ranch flair to it. Updated to add: I have worked in service/management my whole adult career and I understand that staffing is hard right now but when a waitress walks by a table multiple times, without any acknowledgement, it is a management/training issue. Even if it wasn't their section, they could have at least acknowledged us. I am not typically one to publicly complain about an establishement, but I have to share the experience we had at The Other Place in Cedar Falls on university avenue... We went there tonight got seated in the lower level to the right of the bar (when you walk in). There were 5 other tables full, but not by any means swamped. We sat there for 20 minutes (at least) with not even an acknowledgement from either of the waitresses that were running the section. Not even a "I'm sorry-we will be with you shortly." I know the world is short staffed right now, but when 2 different waitresses don't even acknowledge customers sitting at a table with menus- that is a training/management issue. The last time we ordered from here it was a "to-go" order. Got there (had to wait an extended period of time) to get my food. Left the restaurant and received a phone call that they had forgotten one of the kids meals that was ordered. Had to go back only to find that the meal had been sitting since I originally left. They didn't even offer to make fresh. We will not be returning to any of the OP's. read more

Pizza and fries tasted weird, but the menu is so big there's a lot more to try! The tenderloin was great. Not crowded or too loud which is a plus. We had no wait time and got drinks right away. The bathrooms are down a creepy hall but now I'm just rambling. Overall an ok place that I'd like to go back to and try more of the menu. read more

The food is great. Sometimes the service sucks. The pizza is great. The cheese is thick and it's unlike any chain pizza. My favorite is the other sandwich which is a French dip. The bun is crusty and the meat is tender. My husband is a pizza man so he will get a small and I get a sub. The super sub is great too loaded with pepperoni, olives, pizza sauce and cheese baked in the oven it's super tasty. The one thing I don't get is why they let the waitresses wear skimpy shorts, somewhat distasteful. I came to eat a good meal not look at butt cheeks. read more

We dine here frequently and always with friends. My favorite are hot Italian sausage sub, fettuccine chicken Alfredo, and 4 Star pizza. So you had better not screw with my entree from one visit to the next or I'm not going to be happy. One night the chicken was missing from my fettuccine, another time my sub sandwich cheese was slid out of the bun but those are easy fixes! Just bring me the chicken to stir into the noodles and sauce at the table or rearrange the sandwich. Unburning a pizza is a problem that only requires waiting more time for another to be prepared, that's okay, we are retired. Tonight the pasta was waterlogged, barely warm and on the verge of mushy, but dry from being untouched with enough sauce. Then the sauce was not it's usual tasty and creamy variety. So to remedy, my kids have taught me never to send food back to a restaurant kitchen, I asked for more sauce to be brought to the table where I stirred In plenty more Parmesan, then added to my pasta. The wait staff has forgotten my salad so I had that to nibble on in the meantime. I'm getting pretty sick of this "trouble finding enough restaurant staff" excuse for food service establishments. Write out your recipes so dishes are consistent, owners or managers should spend some time overseeing training and work your dang butt off for a great tip. The O.P. is a local favorite in the Cedar Valley and has very good pizza. Many claim it is the best pizza around, but I'm not sure about that-- there are a few other places with very good quality as well. Don't get me wrong though, O.P.'s pizza is VERY good! I gave the O.P. 3 stars because I think they need to start freshening up their image and locations some more. The facades, decorating, and buildings are starting to get quite dated. They need to find a way to become relevant and exciting again to more than just the locals. Still, it's a great local pizza joint to go to on a Friday night, and is one of my favorites. read more

Great spot to relax and watch a game. Had the Reuben Sandwich and it was really tasty, the fries were very good as well. The only complaint I had was that they had no Horseradish for my Reuben. We attempted to have a group of 22 for lunch. We had arranged for a semi-private area, with a table large enough, and requested the pizzas be set on a separate table and not the dining table, as we had a program for our guests. They told us they would not set the pizza's on a different table, that they felt it worked better to put it on the table we were eating at. I disagreed. They would not do it the way I wanted, so we ended up cancelling and going elsewhere. The customer is not always right at the Other Place University. They have good food (though the pizza is better at College Hill and Ridgeway locations), however, the attitude was more than I was willing to handle. I wasn't asking for that much, but they would not accommodate, and one of the co-owners was who we were dealing with. Bottom line, choose one of the other OP locations. read more

I've been going to this place ever since I was born so I've been here 70+ in the span of my lifetime so I feel as if I can say this restaurant is the best in town. I've never had a bad experience here other than when I was 3 and I choked on a peppermint and my mother gave me the heimlic and I threw up everywhere, but I would consider that a good life experience, everyone needs to severly choke on something at some point in their life. Anyways, I can confidently say they serve the BEST pizza and wings in town, maybe even the state, maybe even the United States of America. The wings are ok. I ordered a barbecue chicken pizza. There was literally no barbecue sauce on the pizza. I had to go back to the restaurant to get some barbecue sauce because it was so dry. We had pizza-it tasted great. The problem was the waitstaff. Apparently the bartender had some remote control obsession- my family was watching a local game and the bartender came over( without looking to see if we were watching) and turned it. The game he turned it to was on all of the other tvs around us and we were the only people watching that particular set. There was only one table around us that had people at it. I asked waitress if we could turn it back, and a few minutes later she turned it to the game we were watching. About 10 minutes later, the bartender comes over and switches the tv again. We were still watching this game! What the heck is this guy's issue? No One else is around but us!!!! Perhaps he has some remote control-control issues? The OP is a great place to have pizza or get one of their subs. The pizza has a crispy crust and has more cheese than your average pizza, yet somehow isn't greasy. Their "Grinder" pizza is one of the best pizzas I have ever had. They have TV's that are viewable from any seat in the house. I'm a big fan. read more
