The room is normally set up for sales but when a show is on the calendar the staff quickly clears it to set up the chairs for the audience. Since their first impromptu show back in 1968, McCabe's has been hosting the finest in folk, bluegrass, Americana, world music and more. It can accommodate 150-seats and is one of the best listening rooms in the world. The sound engineer was spot at this performance. Most of performers will play one of the guitars for sale here which helps keep this amazing shop going. *Located just off the 405 freeway @Centinela on Pico Blvd *Plenty of street parking (meters) *A few restaurants within walking distance if you want to grab a bite to eat before or after a show. *Guitar lessons available *FYI purchase show tickets online. This review is specifically about an acoustic guitar setup in the service department…read more I paid $95 for the setup service. I am dissappointed in the results and would not recommend their repair or setup services. The final results show a lack of quality control. I love the vibe of McCabe's and the 'grab and play anything you want' attitude which is rare at guitar stores these days. The staff have always been welcoming and don't hover or bother you unless you have a question. I even saw what appeared to a homeless person come in and ask to use the bathroom and the staff was kind and treated the person with respect and care. I've been a long time visitor, and needed a setup done on an acoustic guitar so I thought I'd bring it in and give them some business. Because the store is about a 30-45 minute drive for me, I asked if they could do it while I waited around the neighborhood and they said they were backed up and likely wouldn't get to it that day. I said ok and left it there and they called me about 2 hours later to say it was done and ready to get picked up, so I completely could have just waited for it. I wasn't able to make it back to the store for a few days (because it's a long drive), and when I picked up the guitar I was in a hurry and didn't spend a lot of time checking it out in the store. I pulled it out for a quick few strums to make sure the high action near the body was fixed, and it was, so I packed up the guitar and brought it home. Lesson learned - spend time at the store/shop when you are picking up your guitar. Spend more time than you think you should, better to find any issues at the shop before you get home. When I got home and saw the guitar in better lighting, I noticed there were a bunch of areas where there was some wax or polish that was obviously not buffed out. So the first thing I did was to spend about 5 minutes going over the whole guitar with a soft cloth to try and buff out all of the polish. Not a big deal, but obviously nobody at the store did any final check of the guitar, or if they did they would have seen this and just didn't care to do anything about it - just felt like poor quality control and lack of care. (Also - this is a matte finish guitar, so I'm not sure you're supposed to put polish on it at all..?) Then once I finished buffing out all of the leftover wax/polish, I tuned it and up and immediately discovered that both the A and the G string were buzzing while being played open. So I ended up spending another 10-15 minutes doing a truss rod adjustment to get the guitar into playable condition. Another indication that nobody bothered to check or play the guitar after the tech put it back together, or they would have clearly heard the buzzing strings. Or they just didn't care enough to fix it. For $95 I would expect the guitar to be able to come out of the case and look and play well without me having to do any additional work. I'm sad to have had this experience with a store a I have really grown to appreciate and enjoy.

He was recommended to us by a friend and we couldn't be happier with his services. He is a professional, tall, trusting, dapper man and is very accommodating and attentive to what the bride and groom want played at their wedding. Mike is an experienced DJ who frequently plays at LA bars, clubs, restaurants, namely Wurstkuche. His equipment is top notch and you can trust him to be ready to go once he arrives at your venue. He also has a popping SoundCloud page you should check out if you need more convincing. We met with him one many months before our wedding and came out very confident with our choice. Our wedding crowd had a mix of people in their teens, 20s, 30s, 50s, 60s, etc. so we knew we needed a balanced mix to cater to everyone. Since Mike is a pro he navigated that really well on our big day. The seniors had their salsa/ballroom music, and the kids had their modern/90s hip hop, edm, pop jams. Overall everyone was on their feet most of the night and had a great time. Now he's booked for my sister-in-law's wedding later this year. Can't wait to dance to the tunes of DJ Exxxplosivo again!

With a Zoom DJ set by the legendary Exxxplosivo.  I hired Mike to DJ my Zoom birthday party last weekend and it was a non-stop blast from beginning to end. It brought me such joy to watch my friends dancing the night away to Mike's perfectly curated musical stylings. Truly the best birthday gift to see everyone letting loose in fun outfits, drinking cocktails, and taking a break from reality for a couple hours. A few friends were initially skeptical of a Zoom dance party, but it only took them a song or two to get in the groove and realize it's a totally fun experience. Exxxplosivo is your guaranteed guy for a party-in-place good time.

Part of that has to do with having the bandwidth to practice consistently - a little bit every day. More importantly, DREW's teaching style lines well with my learning style - he's extremely patient and communicates with precision and clarity; his instruction sheets (which I laminate and keep in a binder) are equally clear and helpful. I find all the lessons fit together in a way that continually reinforces the theory and techniques learned along the way.

Part of his focus was to push me to define my motivation, so he could focus on the things I really wanted to learn. He tailored the lesson to my beginning guitar level, but also encouraged me to discover things I didn't think I could accomplish. He doesn't give hollow praise or tell you you're awesome when you're not, which I appreciate, but he makes you feel secure and encouraged to try even if you make mistakes (Which is all part of the process!), and soon you're making progress faster than you originally thought you could! He clearly has lots of experience teaching guitar and is very knowledgable about music theory if you want to learn it. That said, he can put all theory and technical jargon aside if you want; he completely customizes your guitar lesson to your goals. The lessons never feel rushed and I can achieve higher levels of play without feeling stressed and I highly recommend him to be your guitar teacher!

This is a review for the camp only. Some things to know if you put your child in their camp. I…read moredon't usually like to post negative reviews but I do want other parents to know about the following things so they can be aware. 1) On their camp advertisements they mention instruction in many different instruments. What isn't specified is that they only have a couple different instruments to learn on if your child does not own that instrument themselves. So unless your kid has their own Oboe, Cello, Flute etc they can't get lessons. I think they have guitar and violin on hand. Thus, i would not recommend this place for a summer intro to an instrument unless you own said instrument or you double check they have your instrument ahead of time. They will say it's on the paperwork the child needs to bring their own instrument but they don't send you that paperwork until the night before camp starts. 2) They watch a movie every single day. I don't think any parent wants their kid watching tv every day at a camp they pay good money for. Why not have other activities for the kids for breaks from music? Maybe Let them run around in the park longer, or play some games, or talk amongst themselves and make a friend. Another note about the movie watching -- they show the kids PG13 movies. And if your kid isn't allowed to watch PG13 movies they will sit your chilld with the much younger children and watch a disney movie or cartoon. This is not great for those kids 7-11 whose parents may not want their kids watching PG13 movies but also don't want their kid to feel humiliated watching cartoons with much younger kids and not being around their peers in their age group. When my child was there, there were no kids ages 13 and up so it was baffling to me that they were catering to the kids whose parents allowed their young children to watch PG-13 movies.

When I sit on the couch waiting to pick up my son, I hear laughter, enthusiasm, singing and of course music. It warms my soul. My son loved 3rd grade chorus (and the complimentary bus shuttle is a huge plus for kids and parents!). We are currently taking private flute lessons with Sierra - so far so good! She is patient, kind and helping my son make the ever important first step, a sound! The school music program is great but with so many children my son needs extra one-on-one instruction and this business fits the bill. Looking into the musical theater next ... to be continued!
