NYP volunteer gala
Michelle S.

What a truly beautiful venue, if I wasn't allergic to pollen and flowers I wouldn't mind having my wedding here! I had the pleasure of celebrating the NYP BM volunteers during the gala this past week and everything from the decor to the food was such a treat. The location was not hard to find and I was directed to cocktail hour the instant I stepped inside. We were catered by Patina, there was an open bar with select drinks as well. The food was delicious, I opted for a roasted chicken, some sort of pasta, vegetable medley and there was a concoction of potatoes and mangos that strangely tasted good! The space itself is very conducive for music and I was able to hear the DJ playing across the room. I would say that the specific part of the Palm House that I was in held around 200 people. They also had a fountain outside and various flowers in bloom so I took the chance to take some photos of course! The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. I would love the chance to visit here again!

Wedding by CharlesSallyCharles at The Palm House.

Where do I begin to express my thanks to CharlesSallyCharles who did the most incredible job in creating the wedding of my dreams two weeks ago on July 12, 2014. I was, and still am, overjoyed with happiness and emotion when I think about the magical day that the team pulled off. My guests are still calling me everyday to review the details -- all of which were meticulously executed. For starters, I went with CharlesSallyCharles because of Charlie, himself, after meeting with him one brisk March morning in 2013. At that point, I had met with most of the top caterers and venues in NYC. I was tired of being pitched to like I was buying a car, and I was annoyed with venues who wouldn't call me back or take the time to answer important questions. When I sat down with Charlie, I felt like I was in his home. His laid-back but organized and rational approach, his sincerity, his attention to small things that every bride wants to know their venue is handling, all made me realize I was in the right place. Although all of the dates were already booked up for that year (2013) and for the high season in 2014, I didn't care because I knew it would be worth the wait. We booked a date 1.5 years out from our engagement. Good things come to those who wait: July 12, 2014 was one of the most perfect, most beautiful days -- and it wasn't just because we had outrageous weather and a fortuitous "Supermoon" in the sky. Food: I am indebted to the team for being 100% sure that we were okay with the wine and food selection. My family is known for being foodies, and the team went out of their way to answer a million questions and made sure we were okay with the tasting before moving forward with our selection. Guests are still raving about the lamb chops and raw bar. And the cake we chose: Tahitian Vanilla with fresh raspberries and fresh strawberry filling was amazing! We had the top of the cake the day later and I was salivating still. During our yichud, the team made sure to prepare a large selection of all our cocktail hour foods and it was SO nice to be able to eat with my husband and enjoy the great food together. The sushi was made into a heart shape (I noticed that and was really touched). Event Coordination: Leigh and Heather both made sure that every "i" was dotted, "t" was crossed. Leigh, leading up to the wedding, was immeasurably helpful and responsive in guiding us both vendor-wise and coordination-wise. Heather, our day of coordinator, was unbelievable. I had a lot of "extra" things I wanted to do from surprising my fiance at the time with an "aisle dance" to intricate place settings, and she was all over it all. Everything was very well-timed and well-executed. The only qualm I had was to have had a golf cart ready at the beginning of our couple portraits so that we could have hit more areas of the garden (but that said, we still were able to get a lot of great shots). Service: Can't get better service. White glove. Completely on point. My guests continue to comment about how friendly and nice the staff were and how they felt like everyone "knew what was going on," which has always been a big deal to me as a guest attending someone else's wedding. Knowledge of grounds and space: CharlesSallyCharles, after 30 years, knows every corner of the venue and every grass blade at the garden. They know where your pictures should be, they know where to set up a ceremony, how to set it up, how to position seating, where and how to escort guests... The list goes on. Everything didn't just go off as planned -- it was beyond perfect and beyond what I could have ever possibly dreamed of. Thanks so much to the team for being sure that our day was spectacular. The team is like family -- it is very clear they care about each other and about their customers.

CharlesSallyCharles and their employees (in particular Heather and Leigh) created the wedding of our dreams. Everything was done as we asked for and they were supportive during the whole process. Leigh was there to show us the garden, being very friendly and sweet and hosted for us and other couples a food tasting to help us decide what food we wanted for our wedding. Then Heather, was the most incredible event coordinator, she helped the wedding run smootly and even helped my mom- who is blind- find her way and make sure her service dog was comfortable. The food was amazing! exactly as we wanted it and our guests were thrilled at the broad selection of food we had selected for them. Thanks for making our dream a reality! Moraima and Rodrigo

I had absolutely no idea this little gem was available to use for events! They completely sanitized and cleaned every square inch before me and my 13 guests (family mostly!) arrived for my husbands bday dinner. It was immaculate. We felt so comfortable because there was one chef who was cooking our food and one waiter to serve vs a restaurant with lots of people. They have a gorgeous outdoor space so we had drinks there and kept the door open then whole dinner for some air. It was great - food was amazing - and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They also provided all of the rentals and the price was right. It probably cost me a bit less then going to some fancy restaurant and the experience was so much more special. My husband was so surprised and loved every second. P.S. the chef re-created my husbands favorite childhood dish to make the menu special. I love that he took the time to do that!

All of the staff at Ace were kind, welcoming, and incredibly helpful with my questions. The vibe of the hotel was very hipster (coworking in the lobby, DJs at night in the lobby), which made for a unique experience. The rooms, while smaller, were very well appointed and comfortable. The products in the bathroom were lovely, the bed/pillows were very comfortable. If I have the opportunity to stay in Brooklyn again, Ace will be at the top of my list for sure!

A rude woman who did little to correct her mistake. Now I'm wet. I went to the bar to ask if they'd replace the drink. The bartender immediately said "no go ask the manager." Well alrighty! I find the manager and he proceeds to re-explain the situation as "so you want us to buy you a drink? It's not our fault or responsibility." We're adults. I never placed blame. A peculiar thing to say considering I just bought the drink and I'm in your establishment. Felt pretty short tbh. Not sure why I was expecting a different tone. He eventually just offers me a shot. I don't particularly like shots so I kindly slid the remainder of the spilled drink and declined the shot, suggesting that Managment show the next customer a little more grace and respect in tone. Obviously an establishment isn't responsible for spilled drinks and don't have to be kind at all. I get that. But I guess that's what separates a great establishment from a mediocre one just selling drinks and not an experience. Good luck to them.

The bi-level bar and lounge was dark, swanky, and seductive. It would make an excellent spot for dates or groups of friends, like mine. We started off sitting at the bar, as there were no large tables available upon our arrival. However, after about 15 minutes, the host approached to tell us that he could actually seat us. I picked up my glass, which was wet with condensation, and it slipped out of my hands. I was able to collect it with only a minor spill, but the host insisted that the bar staff make me a new cocktail in case the glass had chipped at all. It was a considerate gesture that I greatly appreciated. Plus, since I had already taken a few sips, I was thrilled to get those back in a new glass! In terms of my cocktail of choice, I had opted for the Hot Tijuana Tease, a fiery blend of mezcal, blanco tequila, chile poblano liqueur, and lime juice. So, it was essentially a spicy margarita, and it was excellent. There were clean, crisp notes of peppery heat balanced with layers of robust smoke. My only complaint about the lounge was that the bathrooms were beyond tiny. There were two unisex stalls in a very tight alcove that also included a cramped sink counter. It was awkward and uncomfortable to share that space with another patron. Aside from that, the Hide Rooftop was a beautiful place with a friendly staff and interesting drinks.

We planned our wedding from out of state, and this proved to be be a non issue for the staff as they easily set up phone call and zoom sessions with us and our coordinator. We felt the pricing and expectations for what was available and offered to us clear and well explained. This is an amazing space that is essentially a beautiful blank canvas, meaning you can do as much or as little as you wish here. Our day of coordinator helped us secure many vendors to fulfill all the duties of the space, almost all who had worked events here before and had nothing but good things to say. When the day of arrived, we were given free reign of the space and politely checked in with every few hours to see if we needed anything on their end. When the wedding kicked into full gear we had a small unexpected hiccup (outside their control), which they promptly worked to fix and followed up with us after the wedding. I really felt they did an amazing job with customer service and providing a clean, open space to make our dreams a reality. We brought in two food trucks, and two drop off catering to which the space lended well. The house bar staff was great and the whole day truly was a dream. TLDR; This is an amazing space, that really lets you fulfill all of your DIY dreams. It's beautiful enough on its own, but lends well to any additions you want to bring in. Very big spot for locals around the neighborhood. Lots of families with young kids. Tried walking in around 5:30pm on a Friday and it was PACKED. Service was friendly enough, but inattentive. Host told us it would be about 10 minutes for a table in the back but we could sit at the bar in the meantime. He then forgot about us even though we checked back in about the table and proceeded to seat people who came in after us. We ended up just ordering at the bar. This was by far the best thing we got. It's very greasy so beware, but it's so good. Standard, but fine.
