I made the arguably unwise decision to stop here late in the day on an Easter holiday when pastries…read morewere clearly on people's minds and the theme was chocolate eggs. It was a long wait in line. Towards the end of their limited hours, I was pleased that they still had a pretty good selection. They sold out of some things, but I found a robust selection of pastries and a loaf of bread as well, albeit one too big for their slices. With macarons and chocolate on sale as well, they had a lot worth coming for. The cake slices were as rich and smooth as one hopes for a French bakery, but several other pastries met with aplomb as well. I struggled to locate a high-end bakery in this geographic area, but did not regret having come to this one at all.

This location gives them ample seating inside as well as patio seating along Colley Avenue. The service is friendly and efficient. I popped in on a Friday at lunch time and enjoyed a ham and cheese croissant while my Dad had chicken salad on a baguette. Both were delicious. Drinks are available in a refrigerated case include an assortment of sodas and Pellegrino. The cases that hold the sandwiches and pastries look amazing. I didn't purchase any pastries or desserts this time, but I will be back to indulge on the next visit. Welcome to Colley Avenue!

Hidden Gem for Sweet Tooths & Pup Parents!…read more We visited House of Marmalade as part of the Hampton Roads Passport Series, and I am so glad we did -- I don't think I would've discovered this little gem otherwise! The shop is small and cozy with no indoor seating, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and incredible sweets. The bakery case was absolutely stunning -- full of beautifully made cookies, macarons, and more. We tried three macarons (espresso, almond, and salted caramel), and every single one was perfection -- fresh, flavorful, and just the right size and sweetness. We also grabbed a shortbread cookie, which was buttery and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And let's not forget our pup! Lexi got a pumpkin cupcake with peanut butter icing, topped with a tiny bone-shaped treat -- not only adorable, but she devoured it. Definitely pup-approved! The staff was fantastic -- super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. You can tell they care about their craft and their customers. Whether you're doing the Passport Tour or just looking for a place to grab something sweet, House of Marmalade is absolutely worth the stop. We'll definitely be back!

This tiny bakery did not disappoint and was better than expected and remembered from my childhood (Please just don't tell mom). The flavors were satisfying and took your tastebuds on a journey! So yummy! Go check this place out!

Their sit in bakery location is now only in Norfolk. My sister loves May's Parlor and I thought it was a nice opportunity to pre-purchase a Mother's Day tea package they were promoting. It turned out beautifully! It was on the costly side but included a choice of two bags of tea and assortment of preset savory and sweet menu of scones, ingredients for mini sandwiches and desserts! My sister enjoyed it thoroughly and she even shared it with us! :-)

I was tempted to get a few more goodies but chose to wait for the next popup event. I had wanted to try the strawberry & creme croissant back when they were at the oceanfront but didn't get to. I'm glad I placed an order. The items are sooo yummy!!! I got the strawberry & cream croissant if course which great. The Crossiant was light, flaky and has a surely richness to them. The cream and strawberries added sweetness without being a sugar overload. The strawberry pistachio glazed croissant danish was excellent was well. A little sweeter without feeling like you're overdosing on sugar. I got two everything seasoning bagels that we will use for breakfast. I look forward to trying the strawberry crumble muffin with coffee. It looks yummy and from what I've tasted so far, I expect it to be great as well!! Definitely keep an eye out on their facebook for popup events, definitely a treat not to be missed!!!
