I have never been to Val's nor have eaten anything from there, but they were a super blessing this past week. My husband loves lemon meringue pie. Our tradition since we were first married is that I make him a lemon meringue pie for his birthday. This year, I couldn't be there to make him one so I decided to try to find one to get to him on his last-day-of-March birthday. I perused local Yelp pages and decided that Val's looked like a great place to start. Val was friendly and helpful and helped me arrange the surprise. It came off without a hitch and by the next day, my husband said he'd already eaten half the pie and that it was wonderful. The cake was delicious, moist, not to much icing on it and not to sweet. Kind of pricy but it was a big piece and we shared a slice.

While on a recent trip (8-9-24) to Washington, N.C. we stopped in to Val's to purchase a cake to bring to a friend. The cheese cake was excellent , as good as any from N.Y. We also purchased a jar of Val's home made Cherry Vanilla Rum Jelly, this jelly not only being an unusual flavor but it is AWESOME. Val is a very talented baker and a very lovely individual. We were at Summer Fest and saw that they had carrot cake at an outside kiosk near the shop. It is my husband's favorite cake. I have had a piece in the past and I told him we had to get a piece. We were in Washington and decided to walk around. We walked by Val's and the owner (I'm assuming) was outside and invited us in. We didn't go in immediately BUT we did go back because we said we would. And he seemed funny/nice. We got 1) banana pudding 2) turtle cheesecake cake 3) lemon blueberry loaf. Banana Pudding: 4/5 It was some really good banana pudding. It had a good amount of Nilla wafers, banana pudding, and whip cream. The fresh bananas gave it a nice touch and it was just the right amount of sweetness. Turtle cheesecake cake: 4/5 I am not a cheesecake person (or a sweets person tbh), but my partner is and they loved it. They said it was decadent and rich. It was just right on sweetness and the flavors meshed well. Lemon Blueberry Loaf: 1/5 This one was a miss for me. The lemon was TOO overpowering and it seems that a lot of baking powder was used because it was dense but not moist. I got it on a craving but that craving was wrong. Oh boy, what's not to love about Val's? I have to start with the amazing and loving owners who are simply fabulous. They are so kind, welcoming and accommodating. I love visiting this store and am so glad they are in downtown. The treats and gourmet foods are all delicious and it feels like a true "treat" when you come in. Beautiful and delicious. We stopped by last week on a whim. We met the chef and she was wonderful! We came back the next day to make our purchase and bought home the blueberry pie. My whole life I've said "I'm not a pie person"...until this pie! We served it the other night with friends and now we are so sad we didn't buy more! Next time, I'm buying that big ol cheesecake cake! This place is amazing- I almost walked right by it! The food was amazing, but the people are what drew me in. Val and her husband were SO extremely friendly and welcoming right from the beginning and told us all about their shop. I purchased some of the different types of quiche, some of the pies, the banana pudding, corn bread, and some of the spices. All were delicious but the banana pudding was my favorite! I would drive the 4 hours any day just to get it again, as well as to chat with the owners again. I will definitely be back to sample more goodies! read more

We stopped by while biking around town in the late morning and got a small still-warm-from-the-oven spinach and mushroom quiche to share. The crust was exquisite and the filling light and flavorful. The cakes looked incredible and the selection ranged from lighter fruits, some with cheesecake centers, to carrot cake to deep chocolates. There was also bread pudding, banana pudding and other delights in the cooler. Hope to return for some of the other items when we are not on two wheels. read more

Absolutely amazing baked goods (and artwork). The key lime pie was one of the best I've ever had, as well as the lemon cheesecake. Val makes a cheesecake cake (a cheesecake inside of a moist delicious cake) that you have to see (and taste) to believe. We stopped here while out for a walk after a wonderful meal at a nearby restaurant. We hit the jackpot at Val's. Don't miss it if ever in the Washington area. read more
