The biscuit breakfast sandwiches with eggs, cheese, and bacon/sausage were really good!

After my experience at multiple Donut shops across the U.S I would rate Northern Lights Bakery one of the lesser experiences. To get straight to the point, the donuts are dense and not worth the wait/price. The worker was manning the cashier and putting donuts in boxes although she did have gloves, the gloves didn't seem to be getting changed. Not sure if some people down south have taste but the line to this place was long. There were flies everywhere. Although the staff were nice, they are understaffed and not clean. This place is another beach vacation money grab to travelers. Update: Found a baked in hair in one of the glazed donuts. Never Again DO NOT waste your $. read more

Super busy and very long line so I thought this place would be delicious. I should have r known better when I finally get through the door and flies galore. They take cash wearing the same glove they grab the donuts with. I saw the lady grabbing donuts wiping her gloved hand across her nose to itch it and then grab donuts. If I didn't pay the price I paid I would have immediately thrown them out. Got home and was like I'll try one didn't see any flies land on this one. There was a hair baked into this powder white cream donut. So gross. Never again. Save your money go to Duck Donuts. read more

Oh man...where do I start?! If you love cinnamon rolls or cheese danish...just go...you won't be disappointed!! We went two days in a row! The Nutella ice coffee was good too! Super cute bakery, a little on the small side so it can get crowded when everyone is waiting for drinks to be made. There is usually a line out the door but the workers do a great job of getting everyone through as quick as they can. Their Vietnamese coffee is one of my favorites and the spinach croissant is also amazing. read more

The food is wonderful and the staff is so friendly! The line can get a bit long but it is worth the wait and moves really quickly. The scones and doughnuts are amazing but the cinnamon bun is out of this world. Get there early before they sell out. This place is worth getting up for! read more

Absolutely love the small cafe vibes in this place! These are truly some of the best donuts I have ever had and come here everyday while at the OBX! My family loves the breakfast sandwiches. Northern Lights Bakery was awesome. Great food. Good coffee. Donuts, pastries, breakfast sandwiches. Service was amazing. Staff were very pleasant. If I had to knock something it would be the long line we sat in outside, but that's a testament to the deliciousness of everything inside. Very sweet little bakery in OBX. Service was incredibly friendly and fast and the shop itself is laid out well where you can see all of the goods. We landed on a couple of cake donuts, a cinnamon roll, a chocolate croissant, and some sausage croissant breakfast sammies. We also had a flat white and a Vietnamese coffee, both of which were delicious! The chocolate croissant definitely needs more flake. The outside of the joint is smack up against a mini golf course and they started blaring music at 8:45am; didn't love that. Would have liked to enjoy my coffee without "Let it Go" blaring through the speakers. I think they should change locations. Remotely ordered custom cakes in advance of a vacation gathering of 34 family members for my sisters 80th birthday party. Northern Lights suggested two 8 inch round cakes and we agreed on one all vanilla one all chocolate. The icing on both was very light, creamy and delicious. Very nice place with amazing staff. We got a dozen donuts of various flavors. I tasted a couple different types and they all tasted great from the maple glazed to the strawberry & sprinkles. We had also gotten duck donuts and I honestly prefer these ones even though they are not warm like duck donuts. These donuts are More dense and larger. What makes this place even greater is that we went back the next day to try some more stuff. I got a spinach croissant which was delicious. We also where given a bag of donuts! This was my first visit to Northern Lights Bakery. I've explored SO. MANY. BAKERIES to find the perfect Blueberry coffee cake and I think I've found "The one"'! My friend and I arrived around 9am, stood in line for about 20mins. The line was out the door (if there's a long line, the food must be good). Well worth the wait in my opinion. The overall service was fast and friendly. We have been coming to outer banks for 15 years. Always try to hit Northern Lights bakery 2-3 times. This time was huge disappointment. Our family favorite is the creme filled doughnuts. Looked like the powdered sugar was forgotten and one little 1/8 teaspoon of crème in the last bite. Expect way better for 24.00 a dozen and 1/2 hour wait in line. Also bought glazed doughnuts. Pretty basic. Tasted like they forgot to glaze them. Are they trying to save money on sugar? At 24.00 a dozen they can afford to make them worthwhile. The girl that waited on us acted like it was a pain to be there. And even though there were 20 people in line moved at a snails pace. I am wondering if management has changed because the family that owned it for all those years was wonderful. read more

If you're looking for a quick breakfast option, Northern Lights Bakery is a decent place to stop. The donuts are pretty good, and I really enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee. Always a favorite when we come to obx. We always plan on spending two mornings at this non chain bakery. Such a wide variety of menu items for breakfast or dessert. I had three Vietnamese coffees this week!! Bacon egg croissant is classic. Even just a plain cake donut is perfection, crunchy outside with soft inside. Spinach croissants warmed. Obviously down here for vacation but man between the customer service and smells of fresh doughnuts or breakfast Sammy's or even the fresh shot of espresso being poured into my coffee.....,, this place is a must stop they offer cakes, tons of pastry's even macaroons and not to mention the gigantic cinnamon rolls. Simply fantastic - earned every one of the five stars. Friendly staff, incredible artisan quality baked goods, efficient customer line management and expediting... in the entrance way and out the back door. This place knows what they are doing. Kind of a bummer they are closed Sundays, as quite honesty, I would have just gone back again tomorrow before we leave for the week. We got an assorted dozen donuts, some muffins and croissant and biscuit breakfast sandwiches. I don't know if there is much else to say. Sandwiches had Fluffy, soft biscuits with perfectly cooked eggs. Danishes tasted fresh and light. Highly recommend the peach and cheese danish. Early morning and sunny but windy and we wanted breakfast. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was light, with mild sausage and chives. She said it was one of the best biscuit and gravy she has ever had! I had coffee and donuts. The coffee was hot and the donuts were hood. It's nice to have discovered a new place in the Outer Banks. Visited today (Sept 6th), so I think the peak crowds aren't here anymore; I didn't have to wait in line when I came around 7:25am. They were out of some of the breakfast sandwiches. I got a couple donuts, which were good but not amazing or anything. The Apple fritter was good. I'd get that again. The key lime pie was very disappointing. I think a good key lime pie should be pretty tart, with strong lime flavors coming through. Northern Lights Bakery's key lime pie is not tart at all. Very little lime flavor. Delicious baked goods! There was about 10 people ahead of us but the line went quick. Wanted a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit but they were all gone by 8am, got the croissant Sammy instead, it was good. Vietnamese Iced coffee was delicious and also nice and strong. The chocolate croissant was very good, laminate dough was nice and airy and flaky, ganache filling was perfect consistency. Eclair filling was good, not too sweet, pate a choux was perfect texture to hold all that filling. Sticky bun was very good straight out of the oven and gooey goodness. I 1st came on Monday and waited about 10-15 minutes 1st thing in the morning now I see why! I have been here 3 days in a row and this bakery is fantastic! It is very popular obviously because of the great quality and the friendly staff so try and get there around 6:45 for minimum wait in the morning... We called ahead to see if they had baguettes (which they do), and they were so helpful as to suggest to reserve them ahead of time for us because they do sell out fast! Building is very cute with outdoor seating. However, the breakfast sandwiches on the biscuits are the shining star or northern light if you will of this establishment. The biscuits are light and buttery while the chicken is perfectly seasoned and fried and the sausage is YUMMY with scrambled eggs. So good. Definitely recommend read more
