The food was delicious. The place was so cool. Now the service..... they were so rude and made you feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. We were passing through town and decided to stop and eat there. When we parked the owner came out and told us to move because it was going to get busy in the next couple minutes so then we moved. When we walked in we told them that we had a party of 8 then they walked away from us and brought back the same manager and he told us that they only like reservations but they could squeeze us in. (The place was empty) then they sat us down and some how made us feel so unwelcome. The ladies behind the bar were staring at us and talking. It took me back to when I was just a teen and there were mean girls pretending to be nice to you. Luckily our server was very nice so shout out to her for putting up with their Bull crap. Steak, salad, bread, and potatoes were delicious and the staff is friendly. Steak was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We paid the $7 to split the steak dinner and I paid to get my potato loaded. Restaurant, bar, and bathrooms are very clean. We drive through Lima a handful of times a year and eat at the cafe when it's open. We didn't know about The Peat until today. Being the only place open for a meal in Lima, I was inclined to come back later on in the evening for another. When I arrived the second time I was greeted with the bartender telling me "we only serve you one meal a day" yet when I left earlier the other bartender told me to come back later on. I don't know what he meant when he specifically said you but it didn't exactly rub me the right way. read more

Also of note: you can get a second share plate (which includes the sides) for just a few bucks, which makes splitting a larger steak a lot more appealing. After having vehicle issues on the continental divide we found this amazing place with a roaring fire, free pool, a kids area/stage, and delicious steak sandwiches, loaded potatoes, and beer. I had one of the worst customer service experiences in my life ever here. I came in the restaurant and was waiting to be seated and with no service after awhile I awkwardly sat myself down. After some time waiting, I said hi to the waitress as she walked by and she looked at me and walked away without a saying a word. Then after a few minutes I walked to the bartender and said, "can I see a menu please." The waitress who was standing next to the bartender there yelled at me, "we are busy, so sit down or leave. Or just leave"!" She was very rude and angry. So I left without saying a word back to such sudden angry hostility. Why yell to a customer to leave when politely asking for a menu? I was here with my coworkers and was having a great time, I thought the decor was really cute and everyone we met was nice. The food was great too. However, towards the end of our time there someone who I think was the owner's wife (Shay maybe?) picked a drunken fight with one of our coworkers over basically nothing, insulting her and us, yelling at us, insulting our clothing, and calling us names. It was really uncomfortable and completely soured our experience, which is a shame because the rest of the staff were so nice and accommodating, including the bartender and the guy who seemed like the owner. She was being quite immature and hostile, saying that we should "go back to where we came from" and telling us to get out. We ended up just paying and leaving. In the two months I've been in Montana I've never felt so unwelcome and insulted. From other reviews it seems like this is a regular occurrence. I wish I could give this place a higher rating but I don't think I'll ever go back due to this experience. read more

The food is amazing! The pizza is top notch. Kabobs are very good. The management is HORRIBLE. They treat their customers like crap. Management never greets returning customers or thanks them for coming in. I feel bad for their staff having to work for her. Hopefully the owners will step in and help her out a bit. We were traveling through the area and just plain hungry! We saw the reviews, so knew we had to stop. Do not let the rustic (VERY rustic) exterior and interior fool you. This is a first-rate operation! Excellent service! Carly was such a delight! Trevor is the master bartender - checking in with us several times. But the "show" is the guy on the grill. The grill is in the middle of the room. Watching him meticulously preparing the food is like watching a master in action - he precisely adds grill marks to the toast, perfectly sears and seasons meats. Wow. After cooling off with a frosty Blue Moon, we ordered a ribeye and an "extra plate" - which is an extra salad, potato and toast for $7 - a good value. I had originally just planned to have a few bites of the Hubbs' ribeye, but once I tasted it, I kept taking a little bit more! Seriously one of the best quality and flavorful steaks I've had in a long time. The salad dressings are house made. I loved the honey mustard. Seriously worth the trip. read more

What an oasis! After riding 50 miles bike packing on the hot desolate dusty roads into Lima, we found ourselves without a place to stay and had resigned to camping another night. As a Hail Mary, we called up The Peat and were so excited to snag a room with them. Not only were the accommodations exactly what we needed, clean beds and clean shower, the bar and restaurant were excellent! Hands down the best steak we've ever had. Absolute gem! Spent two nights on a weekend hunting trip. Blaine and Shae are awesome. Food is down right amazing. Had the "Peatzah" the first night. All toping fresh and cooked to perfection. Went with the cook it yourself New York Strip the second. Great cuts on the beef, well trimmed. Tons of seasoning options and perfect heat on the grill. Everything done just right, down to the homemade salad dressings. The Buffalo wings are some of the best I have ever had. read more

A diamond in the rough! This place is amazing!! When we posted up in Lima for the night, we though, here we go... another night of chili at Jans... not so! The Peat is your traditional Montana Bar (good drinks, juke box, dead things on the wall...), but the one HUGE difference is you get to cook your own steak! Not many of these spots left in Montana (if any). The service was awesome! Drinks were made with cock-and-bull ginger beer, yum! Baked potato was perfect, steak was tasty, garlic bread, and a salad for $18. Don't forget to go over the tracks to the Peat! read more

want to start by saying that the food and majority of the staff were incredible! loved the pizza, good beer selection and great cocktails (shoutout the employee that came up with most of the drink menu! you're awesome!), free pool, seems like a perfect kind of place. we came as a large group and the peat did a great job of fitting us in even if it was a busy night which we really appreciated. the only downside is the owner, shay, who seemed to be looking for a fight with us the entire night. i've worked a lot of food service and know how hard it is to keep up a constantly friendly attitude towards customers, but the way we were treated by shay was unacceptable. we were given dirty looks by her pretty much since we first stepped in, but apparently my coworker asking her to not throw darts close to her head while she was trying to line up a shot on the pool table was the straw that broke the camel's back. shay immediately called my coworker a "b*tch", insulted both of our outfits (what is this, middle school?), told us all repeatedly that this was "her bar", got up real close to both of us, and, of course, finished up with the classic "go back where you came from". just saying, where i'm from, if you walk up with that kind of attitude you get your sh*t rocked. i worry about the day that this terrible attitude from the owner reaches someone else who's also looking for a fight. we payed our tab and left feeling really disappointed. can't thank the rest of the staff enough for being kind and accommodating! would have been a 5-star night! read more

I just finished a 4-day Backcountry Survival Class outside of Idaho Falls and was 'trying' to drive home to Spokane. There was no way I was going to make it so I took the Lima, Montana exit and grabbed the motel right off the highway. I fired up Yelp and saw the review for Peat's Saloon and Steakhouse. I'm glad I did. I did not think I was going to be able to make my own cheeseburger, but I was successful, and it was delicious. The beer, was from a microbrewery in Missoula Montana. It was a Kettle House Cold Smoke Scotch Ale. It was also delicious. As you can tell by the pics, I ate every last bite. The service was great. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely have to bring my wife back here in the future. And next time I might even try and cook my own steak. read more

A "Don't Miss Destination. " My wife and I and a friend had dinner at The Peat in mid-July. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Shay was gracious and very helpful. The rib-eye was outstanding - and I am generally not a steak eater - highly recommended. There is lobster on the menu on Saturday only, I believe. Hoping that buffalo steaks or buffalo burgers are next! Several good IPA's on tap. This place is definitely "worth a detour" as the Michelin guide says. Will be going back next time we are in Lima. read more
